Lunch for 5 today. This place gets busy fast so we got there right before they opened at 11:30. Pretty small menu but what they have is excellent. The 3 pc baskets are enough for 2 people to share. We tried both the cod and halibut. The cod was a lot oilier, but it's personal taste whether it's worth paying nearly double for the halibut. Our order was ready in about 10 minutes, but we were the first ones to order. By 11:44 the place was packed and those folks waited longer, so I get how some reviewers might not be happy with their wait times. Very pleasant outdoor seating with a mini donut and Mexican food cart to provide options. The fries are incredible, so crispy. The fish is pretty wonderful too. We'll definitely stop in again!!

The fish and chips here are great! The fries are seasoned and crispy. The cod is perfectly battered and comes with tarter sauce and coleslaw. Really good food truck with awesome river views on a sunny day :)

I think this was my third or fourth time trying to go to this spot. It's a food cart so beware that they may or may not be open - that's just how food carts are tho. Anyway, I was super glad that they were open yesterday and I finally got to try it. They warned that the wait was going to be an hour, and it was, but I didn't have anything else going on so I waited. It was really great! I liked the batter on the halibut, which was nice and crunchy but not too thick. The battered fries were excellent as well as the slaw. The portion size was about right for $15, pretty good value I'd say, but if I went again I think I'd opt for an extra piece of fish. If you have the time and inclination I'd definitely recommend it. You can sit outside by the river while you wait. Also there is inside seating and restrooms on the deck nearby- that wasn't immediately obvious to me.

The fish n chips here were pretty tasty. Fish was flaky and the batter was light n crunchy. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich special. The fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned nicely. The view by the river makes it super relaxing. Definitely a great find while exploring the cute little town of Nahalem while camping nearby.

After a half day of crabbing, I stopped here for a late lunch before my drive back to Portland. I ordered the halibut fish and chips. The wait was a bit long, but my meal was super fresh, perfectly fried, and piping hot. 10/10 the best fish and chips I've had near the Oregon coast. Looking forward to coming back the next time I'm in the area.

Obsessed with this fish and chips place. The fish is always very fresh and melts. The fries are always very crispy and fresh as well. Love the view and love to look at the water while waiting. The wait isn't too terrible, they're very fast and friendly too. The only thing I wish they had is sauces made in house or with better ingredients.

The bbq pulled pork grilled cheese had a lot of flavor, but it was overly salty and greasy. And you couldn't taste much of the pork itself. The fries had a nice spicy blend seasoning, but were also a bit too salty. The cod was ok, but the batter wasn't that crispy and slid off the fish as it was eaten. We weren't unhappy, but we think we'll look at different options next time we're in the area.

Second year coming here specifically for the fish and chips. Can't get enough of these flaky and lightly fried fish tenders. The tartar sauce is finger-licking good and the meal leaves you fully satisfied. So good!

Amazing fish and chips, well worth the wait, and depending on what time you go, you will wait. Small truck and from what I could see everything is hand made to order. So if you need it your way right away, this may not be the place for you. If you have time, relax and grab a beer and enjoy the waterfront scenery and relaxed atmosphere and be prepared for a legit plate of fish and chips. A must stop if you are in the area. read more

Riverside was so very good at satisfying our fish cravings! I ordered the pulled pork and fish tacos both were amazing and very flavorful! My friends ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese as well as the fish and chips and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals! They also have nice and warm outdoor seating. While we were waiting for our food they said we were welcome to look in the antique shop close by and they called our names when our order was ready. Such a nice experience I'm looking forward to going back here! read more

Fish and chips were some of the best you will find on the coast. The seasoned fries are a nice touch and the tartar sauce was flavorful. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Worth the drive, way better than most brewery's and actual restaurants on the coast. read more

We just were driving thru Nehalem and looked up fish n chips. Riverside popped up with many 5 star reviews and I now see why! Food was very good! I had the pulled pork tacos. Super amazing! The sauce compliments the pulled pork in an amazing way. My husband had the 3 piece fish n chips. He said they were great! Lightly breaded so you really taste the fish. It was a win win. Another fun tip is they have a " joke of the day" todays was " why didn't the lifeguard save the hippy?" So I had to ask why.... The answer: " cuz he was way too far out man!!" Great way to end a wonderful dinner. Highly recommend eating here. read more

Dang! I'm from San Francisco, and quite a foodie at that. My uncle recommended this place for lunch and it might be one of the best fish and chips I've had. It's super fresh and made to order. Snag a local beer and sit by river, pro tip I was given is to call ahead and order. Cheers! read more

Crazy delicious fish and chips! So light and fresh and yummy. I stopped mid-bite to just appreciate how fantastic they were! The fries were wonderful too and just the right amount. Coleslaw can be hit or miss, but theirs was the best I've had in ages. All in all a delicious lunch excursion! read more

Took a star off because of the wait, the fact that the sodas weren't cold and there was no ice, but the fish and chips are really good. We had to wait about 1/2 hour for our fish and chips. This is a food truck and the fryer isn't that large. But they kept the food coming out about four orders at a time. When we got our food, it was hot and seasoned beautifully. They give you cole slaw which is more of a purple cabbage slaw with raisins. Tart and sweet and creamy. They are along side a mini donut and coffee truck called Pacific Roots Donuts. The woman at the truck had already sold out of her mini donuts, but she had ice that I could have for my soda. Didnt even charge me! She was leaving so We ordered coffee before our food came and hoped it would stay hot. She was very accommodating and kind, with the prettiest blue eyes! When she was leaving her truck, (we were at a picnic table right by it) she came out and gave us a half a dozen of her donuts. She said these are not what she usually serves cause they looked a little funny, but they were her left overs and we could have them if we wanted. We said sure, and waited till we finished our fish to eat them. All i can say is that if these were not the ones she usually sells, I would buy them all! They had a flavorful cake dough surrounded with a cinnamon and sugar outside. Unbelievably yummy. read more

Outstanding. Freshly beer-battered cod, great fries and unusual (but delicious) coleslaw. Grilled cheese was great, as was the homemade chili. Eating by the river was awesome. These ladies are on point! Highly recommended. read more

This was the first place we went to get lunch when we arrived. Really great quaint atmosphere and they were super friendly. The fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. For the first time, I actually loved the coleslaw. Coleslaw is usually such a disappointment but not here. It was delicious. Lastly the fish was perfectly battered and cooked. Best when it's still hot and crunchy! We had the fish n'chips and the fish tacos. Both were delicious, liked the fish n' chips more. Make sure u squeeze the lime on the tacos and the lemon on the fish and dip it in their homemade ketchup. I just wish I brought some black pepper to sprinkle it on top bcuz that's how I like my fish n'chips. They had a nice sitting area w outside heaters and covers. Recommend! read more

I was visiting Nehalem and looking for a dog friendly, outdoor seating place to get fried fish. I like everything about Riverside Fish and Chips. 1. The fried fish was very good. I could tell the fryer oil was clean and the fish was perfectly done. 2. They had great coleslaw. Poppyseed dressing and raisins - my favorite kind. 3. Good beer options for fish and chips 4. The outdoor space is wonderful for social distancing, ventilation, and reading a book in the sun. It is like a large lawn and was great for my dog. The picnic tables are spaced out and there were some comfortable plastic Adirondack chairs. 5. It is on the water - a small channel - and is behind a big building so you are separated from the main street. 6. The workers making the fish were following good COVID precautions. I am not a "chips" lover in general so I am not commenting on those. read more

Family recommended we check this place out while visiting the area, and let me tell you... absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Some of the best fish and chips we've ever had - the French fries are soo good. We went two times the week we were there and I highly recommend you make this a must if you're in Nehalem. Also, the pulled pork and grilled cheese sandwich was seriously on point. I'll be dreaming of this place until I can return. read more

Excellent service. The gentleman on the phone and the lady behind the counter were both extremely friendly. Food was hot and fast. We had the fish and chips and an order of fish tacos. The fish tacos were good. Great sauce, bit of crunch from the garnish, but the fish was blah. No freshness at all; I was reminded of the fish sticks I was fed as a kid. The coleslaw was good, nothing special. The fish and chips was disappointing. I love cod but this seemed like it was pulled out of a freezer bag. Crispy, but greasier than I would like, and no seasoning at all. The fries were definitely pulled out of a freezer bag. Really the food was 3 stars at best, maybe 2. But the people were awesome. Add an extra star for them. I won't be back. read more

A food cart behind another restaurant in Nehalem, OR. The fish and chips are beer batter which is not my thing....but everyone else raved about them. I had the pulled pork tacos which were decent but a little sweet for me. The food truck sits on the estuary of the Nehalem river. A little more shade in the summer would be nice but overall a worthy stop. read more

Best fish and chips around. The outdoor seating by the river is a treat we look forward to when we visit. There are plenty of big umbrellas for sunny and drizzle days. Owners are usually the ones making the food and it never lets us down. Good beverage selection as well. Hard work has clearly paid off for these folks. read more

Pet friendly! Delicious food. I don't usually like fish but I ate and enjoyed everything I got. A perfect spot to stop when you're passing through. Get some good food, stretch your legs and wander around/browse the antiques and trinkets in Riverside Trading. A True Gem. And a must stop. read more

When I walked into the Big Wave Cafe tonight I got nothing but attitude from a young lady who acted very overwhelmed with the amount of customers in the Resturant. The place was very busy. Lots of staff standing back in the food prep area. Just standing and talking. I could tell she was stressed. Long story short I was made to feel as if I was a burden and unwelcome. I was prepared to spend 50.00 on a steak and another togo meal for my wife. Nothing but attitude from this young lady. I simply got up and walked out. There was another couple with two small children who walked out just after me. We spoke for a brief moment as they looked upset. They got the same experience. Be prepared to be talked down to and treated like they don't care if your there or not. We have eaten here before and never experienced the attitude. What happened ?

There are three large screens inside, so it is a place where you can watch a game, but there is also a wall with video poker machines that have the sound turned on, which is quite annoying. Where we initially discovered their tasty smoked salmon was at the Manzanita Farmers Market where they regularly have a booth from mid-May through September. The only downside is that they don't carry their full range of products at the market, but still it is a great experience. To see all of the options from fresh salmon chowder, salmon spreads, smoked salmon mac & cheese, and the salmon sushi bake. At the store they also carry a number of dessert items. Depending on the day's catch, they frequently have King, Coho, Sockeye, Black Cod, Tuna, and Steelhead. We've tried a number of smoked salmon options on the coast from Astoria to Newport, and the Neahkahnie Smoke House is a our regular spot.

When we first walked in, we were a bit confused since it seemed like it wasn't actually a restaurant and was instead a fish market - it turns out we went into the wrong door. Bouy's Best Restaurant is the building that says restaurant outside, not the market next door that only sells fresh, frozen, and smoked fish. We elected to get the Captain's Platter to share as it seemed to include most of the fried items that they serve. It's great for sampling! Captain's Platter ($34) - The Captain's Platter is served on two trays - one with the fries, and one with the seafood. The fries are pretty standard commercial battered fries. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Not really much else to say. The seafood plate consists of one piece each of lingcod, salmon, and halibut, two oysters, one razor clam, and two prawns. I love the batter they use here - it's light, lacy and crisp. Not quite as light as tempura, but it stands up against the fish well, and it adheres enough so that a hearty bit won't leave naked pieces of protein or hollow husks of batter. While there's a bit of oil soaked into the plate, the batter is not oily at all. Starting with the fish - I understand now why salmon isn't used for fish and chips much since it gets dried out a bit. Still good, but not as good as salmon could be grilled or baked. The taste is quite different and a bit stronger to the typical generic farmed salmon. I'm not sure what the difference between halibut and lingcod is since I don't have too much experience with the various types of fish. One of them, which I think is halibut, tastes a little bitter and has some strange fatty and tendinous parts. I didn't enjoy eating it due to the texture and taste. The other piece, which I think is the lingcod, is also a little acrid, kind of bitterish with a very distinct taste. I think this is why fish & chips is traditionally cod - it's much lighter in taste. But if you're looking for something a little more flavorful, lingcod and halibut might be the way to go. I don't really like oysters and the fried oysters included in the captain's platter did not change my mind. They are mushy, very briny flavored. The prawns are pretty solid, good and sweet. The tail part of the shrimp is so crisp you can easily eat it without any issues. Finally, the razor clam is very good. Nice, large, and chewy. My favorite was the clam, followed by the salmon, prawn, cod, halibut, and oyster. (3/5) On the side, they server a cup of tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, and slaw. The tarter sauce is very creamy. They are heavier with the mayo than most tarter sauces. It's tangy and quite rich, but I feel like they add quite a bit less pickles than other places. The cocktail sauce it just a nice refreshing and acidic sauce to break through some of the fat in the batter and seafood. The slaw is interesting. It's quite sweet and acidic, with bits of pineapple mixed in. It works well with the seafood. There's a wedge of lemon included as well to add more acidity to preference. Clam Chowder, Small ($7.99) - This is a decent clam chowder. The clam taste comes out quite well, followed by a bit of vegetalness from the mirepoix. The razor clams are cut into larger pieces than traditional clam, resulting in meatier and chewier pieces that I would normally expect. The broth is thick and rich, but I'd say not as creamy as most other clam chowders. It's more of a grey than off white in color. They are pretty generous with the ingredients, with the vegetables, tender potatoes, and the aforementioned clams. That all sounds good, but the major downside is how salty the chowder is. The amount of salt they add makes the clam chowder a little unpleasant to drink. I didn't end up finishing the chowder. (3/5) Overall the food I had at Buoy's Best was kind of meh. After I ate the fish & chips I felt a bit burnt out on this dish (even though I had only eaten it twice that week). Was it the difference in flavor vs. other fish & chips? I'm not sure, but I don't think I would revisit Buoy's Best. I'm not saying the food served here is bad - it just didn't work for me personally.
