My last review was exactly 3 years ago. And guess what? I still go here. I still see Kaz. This is the longest relationship with a guy I've ever had, if we're really being honest. Kaz is truly an artist and cares deeply about his work and his clients. I'm so lucky to have found Rivkah's Salon, this stylist/colorist/artist, and that I can also call him my friend. My hair has never looked better, received so many compliments, and most importantly - has never been healthier. I've learned so much from Kaz about what products and practices are good for my hair, and that has significantly maximized my good hair days between appointments. I no longer leave a haircut with regret (50/50 chance I'd hate my hair at every other salon), but always feel better than when I walked in. Also kinda weird, but I gotta say, Kaz does a BOMB shampoo. I was a client for years. Rivkah technically did a good job on my hair. That's why I stayed. But the price for services unexplainably kept going up and up. It was never clear what the cost was for each service. Prices would change from visit to visit for the exact same services. Sometimes higher sometimes lower but the overall trajectory was up. I've lived in other areas and am aware of different price markets. But this was overpriced for Westborough, MA. There were other issues as well but too long to list here. My last bill was shockingly high. I paid it. But I was embarrassed that I paid that much for color touch up, highlights and a haircut. I felt that I was being taken advantage of. So today, I went in to get a hair colour and paid 135 for a root to end colour + an additional 65 for the shampoo and blow dry after which should basically be complimentary with the hair Color ... when I asked why it was not any lighter, I was told I could get lighter highlights (which I probably should've gotten in the first place) for an additional cost. So at the end I looked exactly same as the way I walked in. No change in my hair color.... also my boyfriend came with me to get a haircut and beard trim and kaz did not understand anything he said and when asked to slightly shorten his beard, took almost all of it off and then asked if it was okay as if anything could be done at that point.. even the haircut was not remotely close to what he asked.. Initially they billed me for $210 (hair color + boyfriends haircut and beard). But when I asked for the 20% off (given by yelp), that was when they added the 65 for the shampoo. Does that mean if I didn't want the shampoo, I'd have to go home with the dye in my hair? I wish I could give 0 stars but yelp won't let me do that plus maybe the only reason I would give them a star is for the hospitality.. honestly I feel super ripped off for the price I paid... I went to Rivkah's with a groupon for a cut, wash with deep conditioning and style. My stylist was Ayanna who was amazing. She was so kind and welcoming, made great conversation. She knew what she was doing and gained my trust instantly. She took her time and nothing felt rushed at all but I was still out of the salon in an hour which is amazing. My hair feels so healthy and although I got a blowout the curls actually lasted all night. Found this salon on Groupon! Went from long hair to a pixie cut! Kaz did an amazing job! My hair has NEVER looked this good. He spent so much time on my hair; he wanted it to look perfect while other hair stylists I've been to don't seem to give a crap. He was easy to talk to and super nice and I felt really comfortable. I've had haircuts with Amber and Kaz. Amber was lovely and extremely skilled, Kaz had a terrible attitude and was rude and intrusive. A friend (who does not have yelp), said he was quite rude to her as well. He's not skilled enough to have such a terrible attitude. Not happy with my cut, hate the way I look now. Instead of going step by step to see if I was happy with the length, Kaz cut it too short before I realized. I did tell him I needed light layers ad nothing too short because my hair is thin. I was so upset that I could not even remember to use my first time yelp check in offer. GROUPON BUYER BEWARE....I purchased a Groupon for the salon. I was looking forward to trying a new salon as I have been searching for a new place to go. I called to make an appointment and was told that there is only one stylist that does the haircuts for the Groupon and she only works Tuesday and Thursday. I explained to the receptionist that those days were not convenient and asked to come in on a Saturday. I was told I could not use my Groupon on a Saturday. I am annoyed that this detail was not posted when purchasing the Groupon. I will be trading in this Groupon for a new one due to the limited availability. I would have put zero stars but that is not an option. I wanted let other people know this about the Groupon before they purchased it incase they too do not have availability on those specific days. I went to Amber after checking out Yelp to find out where to get my hair cut and colored in the area. I'm new to MA recently relocating from San Francisco to the Boston area. I had some washed and out grown out highlights and Amber did an incredible job listening to my requests, giving me suggestions that work for me, and giving me a cut and color that is beautiful. I left the salon feeling much more confident. I highly recommend going to Amber and Rivkah salon as the other stylists were also very sweet and from what I saw, did an awesome job on their client's hair. I think I'll be back. : ) read more

I took an hour train ride to use my expiring groupon that i bought on a whim on this place and oh my... was it worth it. Amber is an angel and knows exactly what she's doing when it comes to beauty. She knew what color would work for me and how to fix my hair and make it one color, whereas the very expensive guy i went to before her in boston, had no idea how to fix it, and made it worse. And not to mention, the customer service here reminds me of the service i got on Newbury st in Boston. They offer tea and water, and just make you feel like a princess. I've let my experience with Rivkah's sit with me for a few days before deciding to come to Yelp. I thought to myself "as long as the cut and color is good, maybe I'll just refrain from sharing the experience." But, alas, I do think it is very important to share this. I won't get into every detail that made my haircut at Rivkah's TOTALLY bizarre, but I will highlight the main issues I had. 1. Kaz didn't seem to be very present. He showed me swatches of color for my dye, walked away and later showed me 3 totally different swatches. We repeatedly had the same conversations over and over (he asked me how I heard about him on 4 different occasions, asked me if I wanted to buy shampoo and conditioner over and over, etc.). There are a variety of other examples to reflect this same behavior. Overall, I felt he was not paying attention at all. 2. A client and apparent friend who was clearly not sober was roaming the hair studio for the entire 2.5 hours that I was there. She was smelling products, dropping bottles, stumbling around sweeping and actually waxed her own eyebrows for over an hour. When my hair was being cut at the end, she came over to my chair and was allowed to touch my hair and argued with Kaz about the appropriate way for me to style it. This went on for quite some time. I was so confused and shocked. At no point did Kaz ask her to stop. Again, she was a client, not an employee. 3. For the cherry on the cake, as I left the studio, I decided to buy product (God knows why). Kaz rang me up. As I looked at the bottles, I noticed the top of one had product all over it and the bottle didn't seem full. There was a label on both bottles "Compliments of Evolve Salon Systems". I asked Kaz "Has this bottle been used?" He was definitely offended and told me they do not sell used products. I asked why the bottle was all dirty and he told me it was because he had product on his hand when he grabbed it. When I came home, I opened the bottle and it was half full. I went back the next morning to exchange the products. Rivkah was definitely shocked and said "we do NOT sell samples, you should not have been sold those". But then, for the kicker, they only had one of them in stock so she gave me one and told me the second tester bottle "was definitely new" and I can keep that one. It was a powder so it was really hard for me to tell by weight how much was inside. But really....thanks! Keep a tester bottle of product that I bought for $25? Overall I would not recommend Rivkah's as they are not at all the professional environment that they claim to be. read more

BUYER BEWARE! In all good consciousness, I couldn't NOT write a review of my experience at this salon. Because my regular beautician was on vacation, I called the salon and was quoted a price of $150 for highlights (no cut). After a consultation, I knew I'd be paying more than the original quoted price. Rivka applied the color and put me under a very hot dryer for 25 minutes (not good for thin hair...causing some additional breakage), didn't offer me a magazine, or water. She left the room & didn't return until the timer went off. Extremely lax in client care. She washed the color out of my hair & began to dry it with a blow dryer so I could see the color. It was decent..nothing any other salon couldn't do. She showed me the bill...it was $305 which included the breakdown, indicating a charge of $70 to wash out the color & blow dry (no styling) my hair! Other salons will offer their blow dryer so I can dry my hair to make it more cost effective, (which I'm more than capable of doing.) Rivka told me her credit card machine "wasn't working", so I had to Venmo her the amount. There was no one else in the shop, so no one could see what had transpired. Rivka now had $305 for a night on the town. Bad customer service, overcharging for a service/not informing an exorbitant fee. How about offering a discount for a first-time client Rivka? I guess this is the tale of being a first-time AND last time customer simultaneously. read more

I just got my first cut and color here and I will definitely be back! Kaz did an amazing job and I would highly recommend requesting him for your next appointment! I recently moved to this area and was having a hard time finding a salon that knew how to give a good cut and color. I was a bit nervous going in for my service because I've been let down by other salons in the area, but I'm glad did! Kaz made sure I was comfortable and listened to exactly what I wanted! All I can say is "wow." The atmosphere here is phenomenal. The vibe is chill. The water and tea they have on tap is flowing. On top of everything else, they have amazing stylists. I got advice about my split ends and gross hair throughout my appointment and every one was super nice. I bought a Groupon to try out the service, and it was absolutely fantastic! Seriously, 5 star haircut. The stylist who worked with me is a "rising star," ( I think her name is Amber) which is what the Groupon entails. Naturally, I was hesitant to get my hair cut by someone who is starting their career, but I was quite surprised! She did such a phenomenal job with my hair. She ironed it before cutting it to assure that it would look a certain way when it was dry and didn't charge me to do this. Truly went the extra mile. I also got a chance to speak with Rivkah (the owner). Very friendly and professional. She brought up my highlights using just color and no bleach leaving my hair looking natural and healthy. The detailed cut she gave me left height and fullness in the back without the bulk. I came in for a single process color and cut. I was talked into a balayage, which seemed extreme for me but I was ready for a change. I loved my cut and style, but I paid $200 for my hair color to look exactly the same. I don't know if the stylist was trying to convince himself or me, but he was happy with the results. The only reason I am not giving this place a one star review is because at the end of such a stressful experience, my hair cut came out fine. This review is not about the quality of the work, it's about the experience that was provided to me at the salon. I came here specifically because all of the rave reviews went on and on about Kaz. I called to book a last minute appointment because my hair desperately needed a trimming and layer reshaping. Due to a meeting at my job that ran over I called ahead and told them I'd be about 15 minutes late to the appointment, it didn't seem to be a big deal because when I got there Kaz was still finishing up another customer. He then took another customer ahead of me for "quick brow wax" before getting started on me. At this point we're already half an hour late to getting started. Fine. As Kaz is washing my hair, without warning he just blurts out, "you need to change whatever shampoo you're using at home because it's drying out your hair". He's the professional so I wasn't necessarily offended, just taken aback by how out of nowhere the comment came. I said, "okay, what do you recommend?" Kaz: All the products we sell here would do you well (surprise...upselling salon products) Me: Well, I only use cleansing creams, do you have one you can recommend? Kaz: ...Use the products we sell here. I kept my mouth shut after that. Kaz was being extremely confrontational and was obviously too busy trying to get me to buy his salon product vs. listening to my needs and providing a true consult. Kaz is a talker! NOT a listener. At this point my blood pressure was pretty high, I became extremely stressed out because of his pushy sales technique and not listening to what I was asking or saying. We move to the chair. He asked me where I part my hair. I showed him - right down the middle. Kaz asked: are you sure you don't want to go 3 inches deeper? Me, very flatly: No, that's not where my hair parts. Kaz started cutting my hair, everything seemed to finally settle down....until I noticed him cutting and layering my hair with the part 3 inches down my head. I was about to lose my shit. I said: aren't you cutting off too much hair on that side? He said no, look, I'm layering front to back. Me: even though that's not where I part my hair? Kaz: That's where you showed me you part your hair. I mean...COME ON. Now you're going to argue with me on where I showed you where I part my hair, right down the middle?! I had to show him AGAIN where I part my hair. and again he had the gall to say, "that's not what you showed me but...okay, that's fine." It's a damn shame you know? I'm brand new to this area and was really looking forward to enjoying this salon as much as everyone else has. I hope my experience can serve someone else in case this happens to them here. Even though I'm in the minority in regards to the popular overall experience, it can't just be me. The first time I used a groupon. It didn't cover the color service I was recommended but still covered a majority! The next 2 times I didn't have a Groupon and the price was triple! I thought the pricing was extremely high but decided it was worth it because I finally found someone that I felt confident with. The next time I went I was not happy but thought she was having a bad day, the 3rd apt was a disaster and my last. In my search for a new salon I talked to several people (5 or more) that had been to Rivkah and they all had the same experience. The initial visit went well and down hill after that. I bought a Groupon for a single process color, cut, style, etc. When I showed up for my appointment, they informed me that a single process color really only means a root touch up to them! What?!? I've had my hair colored at salon for years, and a single process color has never meant just a root touch up! They then informed me that they would give me 25 off the price to color all my hair the same color...so my balance would be 185! Are you kidding me? They act like they are a high end salon, but they are located on the second floor of basically a shack! I had Amber, who was the rising star. She did a fantastic job letting me know exactly what was next each step of the way. I cannot say enough about the amazing experience I had at the salon. It's super modern, clean and beautifully decorated. A bit tricky to find your way into the building but once you walk in you are warmly greeted and feel right at home. Amber was super sweet and incredibly talented. She gave me an incredible haircut along with great conversation and even a suggestion on where to get dinner! Just me and one other woman were getting our hair done. Amber Kaz and Mackenzie were all chatting with the other guest and myself like we were old friends. They offered coffee, tea, water and even wine! Kaz helped me to figure out exactly what I was looking for, provided great input and a lovely final product! My girlfriend set up an appointment with Kaz last week to come in today for 9 AM. She was so excited and happy that she was going to get her hair done the way she has been wanting it done for a long time only to find out that it actually was not going to happen. I was on the way driving her to the appointment when she got a phone call from one of the women there 15 minutes before her appointment telling her that her stylist was not available until 1230 today. Also keep in mind my girlfriend had never been to the salon before so this was going to be her first experience there and already she was left with a bad impression and I am not happy at all! She has a very busy schedule throughout the week with her job and took time off so she could have this done so this is a major inconvenience. For the rest of the week going into next week they had no times that would be good for my girlfriend and she really had her heart set on getting this done today so we found another salon that will definitely not disappoint! Very unprofessional! You figured they would've also discounted her for their inconvenience on top of the 20% discount they supposedly offer to new clients. I've only been to Rivkah once while i lived in Central Mass but that one time was worth it! She was very friendly and gave a great consultation. I wanted to make my hair look fuller so she suggested going darker and shorter. I LOVED my color, it was perfect for me.
