I stayed in Alamogordo while visiting White Sands National Park, and came to Waffle & Pancake Shoppe for brunch. Now, I'm a big fan of Waffle House, and I thought that this restaurant would be a cheap(er) imitation of Waffle House, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was very crowded when I arrived and there were many customers who were waiting to be seated. Luckily, I found a spot at the bar so I didn't have to wait long. I had the 2 Egg Plate breakfast. The hashbrowns were nice and crispy, and the eggs were cooked just as I like them. Despite the restaurant being very busy, the waitress provided excellent service, showing remarkable patience and attentiveness to all patrons. She ensured every customer was satisfied with their food and kept all coffee cups filled. I also noticed that the staff exhibited outstanding teamwork and communication, creating an unexpectedly positive and efficient atmosphere. read more

Outstanding food and service. We sat at the counter in front of the grill. An absolute SHOW!!! The cooks and waitress staff all worked together like a well oiled machine. Fast and friendly place. Hands down, amazing place! The food is great and the atmosphere is even better. They are fast, kind, and hard working. Everyone here works so well together which is an amazing sight to see. I'd recommend sitting at the counter so you can see them in action. As soon as you come in it was packed but good packed in such a way as you know for sure that is how GREAT the food is! But the servers are so amazing to greet you with their warmth smile. Yeah this was our 1st try in this place and I MUST say all the locals say everything in the menu is bomb so good! Ambiance is homey like my grandma's style kitchen... If you're ever in Alamogordo, NM, you must come here. Expect to wait but it isn't long, there's a bench outside and waiting there is pleasant. Our wait on a weekday was about 10 mins. Not bad for a busy restaurant. Got to get the green sauce that comes with the omelette. It has a kick! My omelette was delish, didn't need ketchup since I asked for the green sauce. My husband chicken fried steak also came with the green sauce and it immediately made a world is difference in the taste and seems like a different dish altogether. Very American breakfast menu with some New Mexico flair to it; like the fiesta chicken fried steak which is basically a chicken fried streak with green chili gravy on top with cheese. Food was good, prices are great for all the food you get. All the servers were really hospitable. Great atmosphere. It gets packed quick so I recommend going right when they open. They have fresh homemade salsa that I put on any omelette I get. Finally got the chance to have breakfast here and I'm so glad I did! First off, I love waffles and the classic American breakfast and these guys do it right! The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns nice and brown but not overcooked or burnt. The coffee was pipping hot and delicious! Our waitress made sure we always had a full cup! Speaking of our waitress, she was friendly and attentive and our food was on our table super quick. The prices are very affordable. Im in the area visiting the local national park. I needed a filling breakfast, plus I noticed the menus on here hadn't been updated in many years. As a YE, i felt it was my duty to try this place out. Parking lot was spacious. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and taken care of. The place was busy on a weekday morning, but service was prompt. The woman at the register and our server were both friendly and welcoming. Plus, food came out rather quickly. The food was all tasty. If it were not for yelp reviews, we never would've stopped at this unassuming restaurant. But we were glad we did. The menu included typical breakfast items along with a selection of Southwest breakfast items. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the Huevos Rancheros. Both were delicious. The service was great. The server was fast and very friendly. The parking lot is next to the parking lot of an Italian restaurant that is not open during the morning business hours. The only place you need to eat at in Alamogordo! Great service at this family run establishment, makes you feel at home for sure. Quick from order to deliver with great quality. Came here 2 out of 3 days because we made the mistake of eating at our hotel the first day. Pecan waffle is delicious as well as polish sausage, we got ours with some grilled onions. After moving here from the Gulf Coast with a ton of breakfast/brunch spots, I was happy to stumble upon this gem! It's a small eatery located right on the main drag. It gets busy pretty quickly but I was able to get seating at the counter area. The waitresses are incredibly welcoming and so kind! I got an omelette, breakfast potatoes, toast, and a pecan waffle. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly! The only thing I'd ask for differently next time is the pecan be cooked in the waffle if that's possible. read more

A MUST EAT HERE, if you are passing through Alamogordo, NM in the morning. I had the Big Chicken Fried Steak Fiesta Grande. My partner had the Breakfast Burrito with the combo meat. Both meals were smothered in Green Sauce that added just the right touch to make the meals amazing. The burrito was packed with tasty Hatch green chiles, along with eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, & cheese. Yet the chiles didn't overwhelm the burrito. They made you look forward to your next bite. The Chicken Fried Steak was fried to perfection and topped w/green sauce. I put my over-medium eggs on top of it and it was fabulous. Imagine a family-owned, Waffle House styled diner, without all the drama. All of the breakfast food is good! Their French toast is so good and reminds me of home. In a very New Mexico manner, they have Green Chile sauce and salsa. I love putting the sauce on my hash browns. If you're looking for the breakfast sandwich on the menu, it's a secret menu item, so just ask. The staff is very welcoming and nice. The diner also has lunch. I recommend trying the patty melt. I've heard good things about this place from family while they were here visiting so we decided to give it a try. We had about a 10 minute wait, it wasn't long at all. You can tell there are a lot of regulars who come here, it seems like everyone knows everyone! The staff was very friendly and the lady who put our name down remembered my name when we left. I decided to order "porkys revenge" is basically different variations of pork (sausage patties, sausage links, and bacon) with your choice of toast, hashbrowns, and two eggs. We were told that we had to try the "Mexican green sauce" and salsa so we ordered some. This green sauce is amazing! I put it all over my hashbrowns it's so good. Imagine....you live in a remote desert town and you want to set up your own discount Waffle House. So, whaddaya do? You open up a Waffle & Pancake Shoppe, of course! Best of both worlds, amirite? K, I'll be honest. I don't even eat pancakes. Waffles....on a very rare occasion. Today just happened to be one of those days. For the record though, I am not normally much of an advocate for having dessert with my breakfast. Before we discuss the food, I gotta talk about first impressions. Specifically the parking lot and exterior. Granted, I had arrived there when they had first barely opened for the day. Nevertheless, the parking lot looked desolate and seedy. Feeling like I could get shanked by a meth-head at any moment, I decided it would be best if I parked my booji expensive car in the back so as not to draw too much attention to myself. I approach the door. Despite the sign still being flipped on the "closed" side, I proceed to open the ostensibly unlocked door. Peering in, I witness what immediately looked like a crime scene. I'm talking yellow warning tape all across the bar stools and some tables. I still wasn't even sure if the place was legitimately open yet. Felt like I was trespassing or something. Finally, I'm greeted by whom I *think* to be the manager of the place and invited to sit at a table. She was very friendly the entire service. I wanna say she may have been Korean, but I can't be certain. I'm not that good identifying accents. Anyway, kept it pretty straightforward today and tried a traditional 3 egg breakfast with crispy bacon, hashbrowns & onions, and a waffle. Because...ya know....I had to see what the fuss was about. Everything was cooked to near perfection. Only thing I'll warn you about now is...the hashbrowns are bland. Most likely done deliberately to "play it safe" with the clientele, just note that these things will need plenty of salt for those who require it. The waffle was pretty good, too. Though this place doesn't exactly hold a candle to Waffle House, they're more than sufficient for the area they're in. I'd dare say this may be the best place in town to go for an affordable but tasty breakfast. I'd easily choose this place over the likes of Denny's and IHOP. Even the coffee was stellar. And the lady did a good job of never letting me see the bottom of my mug.
