Sausage and brisket, fried okra and beans.

Spontaneous run to RJ's and we were very satisfied with the brisket and the sausage. So delicious! We paired our combos with fried okra, beans, and crinkle fries. We had prickly pear lemonade and Kool Aid.

Our Kitchen Cabinet Crew of two guys have almost finished the Kitchen. Most of the Cabinets are in except for the doors and the one below the sink that's in the corner. We knew it would not be done on Friday and we did plan to go out to eat Dinner - but didn't know where. I came up with a plan (sometimes I astonish myself). Informed my Lovely Wife that why not go out to RJ BBQ and give them a try. My Wife was busy around the house while the crew worked in the Kitchen and I ran a couple of errands preparing for the temporary sink that we maybe able to use early next week. The crew left around 4:30pm or so and we readied for RJ - and the Vette-Jet is waiting to go. When we walked in we were greeted by Edith behind the counter where you order. We informed her that it's our first time here and we need to look at the menu board. She then said that they are out of Brisket due to a lot of Catering they did today and also a Very Large Lunch Crowd. Her and another worker suggested the Three-Meat-Combo that comes with two sides and there is enough food on there for two people. So, that's what we went with. Chose the Pulled Pork, Sausage & Ribs. The Two sides chosen are Potato Salad and Beans - comes with 2-slices of bread and RJ's BBQ Sauce. We also ordered two drinks, Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke. We took a table while we waited for our food and in just a couple minutes it was ready. Picked it up at the counter with plastic ware and a plate - and this container is really heavy. Opened it up at the table and now we know why it's Heavy. There is a lot of meat in there with Three Mighty Big Ribs covering the Pulled Pork that's spread all across the large portion of the container - with sliced Sausage along the side. The Potato Salad is topped with some Pickles and sliced White Onion while the Beans take up the other side - and there is a lot of them. My Wife took the plate and some of each item while I ate from the container. These Ribs are Big and they do have good flavor, especially with the RJs BBQ Sauce - that stuff is really tasty. We both Love the Pulled Pork - it's Moist, Very Tender and loaded with flavor. I layered a lot of Pulled Pork on a slice of bread, then the BBQ Sauce and it was Awesomelylicious - RJ really has good Pulled Pork. The Sausage is also one of our favorites. It's Very Flavorful and Tender with no toughness anywhere like some places. This is some Great Tasting Perfect-Potato Salad, especially with some Pickles & Onion. The Beans have just the right amount of Spiciness in them and they are Beany-Meaty - love the flavor. RJ BBQ is a Big Hit with us and we are coming back for some of that Brisket - but not late in the day. That's just taking a chance of them running out. RJ's is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for most days of the week - closing early on Saturday & Sunday at 5pm - but you can still come for an early Dinner. Check'em out on Facebook - RJ BBQ - and On-Line - RJ BBQ has Smoked Meats; Brisket, Sausage, Ribs, Chicken, Burgers also Fish & Desserts - Cobblers & Banana Pudding - all served many different ways - West Texas Style. We just might come out here for Breakfast one day after our Kitchen is finished - their Menu has a lot of choices. They have been around since 2002 providing the San Angelo area with some of the Finest BBQ you will ever enjoy. Edith was Awesome in helping us decide what to order and checked on us at our table. She earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'Above-&-Beyond' the norm. She was ecstatic about it all - and the rest of the crew joined in. The entire time we were there the Staff was always helping everyone and are some of the most polite workers you will ever encounter. They not only provide some Great BBQ but also the Best Customer Service around because they care and it shows. We ate all our food and only took home what was left of the BBQ Sauce - it's Very Tastylicious. RJ BBQ has Smoked Meats; Brisket, Sausage, Ribs, Chicken, Burgers also Fish & Desserts - Cobblers & Banana Pudding. Thank You RJ Staff for some West Texas BBQ and Thank You Baby for Everything. Love You Bunches & BBQMunches.

One of the major bbq players in this town and I see why. Dang good BBQ across the board of their simple basic menu of goods. Everything we had was amazing. Service was fast just before the normal 6pm dinner rush started coming in and it came strong! We got lucky coming in at 5. Beat the masses. The chicken impressed me most with it's super smokey but moist outcome. The brisket was a close 2nd place being flavorful and tender. Ribs we're not be overlooked either. Not a big sausage guy so those just never impress me much anywhere. Potato salad, coleslaw and beans all legit sides. The smokey tangy BBQ sauce is solid as well. Roman the man behind it all who served us was a class act guy and super friendly dude. Gave me all the inside details on the biz and the food. 10 hours of smoked mesquite chips goes into that brisket! In biz since 2002 and still putting smiles on locals faces daily!

4.5 Stars! Based on the type of place it is...diner-like. Hubby & I both had the Brisket platter. His with beans and fries, mine with fried okra and potato salad. We split a peach cobbler because they had no banana pudding. Servings of all were generous. Be sure to ask for extra sauce. 1) BBQ Sauce--this is Super important, the Most important ingredient IMHO. I'm 100% Texan, NOT Southern. RJ's BBQ Sauce walks a very fine line between the rangy vinegar based Texas BBQ and the Sweet Memphis style Sauce. It's both. (I'd like it better without the sweet but I could eat it and not be umhappy). 2) The Brisket-- just the way Brisket ought to be. Enough smoke flavor. AND a Generous serving (in my picture I ate a slice before I remembered trouble snap it). 3) The Sides - Pinto beans were just good ol' plain beans. They had a bit of cumin but not a lot. Crinkle fries really cannot go wrong on these. Potato salad was, IMHO, annhh. Mayonnaise, a bit of mustard for color and potatoes. I saw what seemed to be bits of pickles but didn't taste -em. Luckily hubby gave me his onion. Peach Cobbler was very Cinnomon-y. I'm not crazy about that but Hubby was. Darn good Cobbler. One surprise was the Lemonade Tea. Yummy, on the lemony side. (They do not have plain tea, sweet or unsweet.) Sodas are in plastic bottles, not fountain drinks. 4 Service-- friendly, timely, and helpful. He appeared genuinely happy we were there.

The Best BBQ in San Angelo

Service from Alexa I hope I got the name right!!! Absolutely amazing from the greeting walking in the door to taking my order and preparing my meal. Now the BBQ pretty much the best in San Angelo the man in the kitchen checked on me to ensure I was enjoying the delicious BBQ and of course it was delicious. I was the only one dining at the time and the entire staff made me feel VIP that type of energy goes along way. Keep up the great work.

Very good melt in your mouth brisket! The peach cobbler is also amazing! Definitely recommend this place if your in the area.

I've passed this place many times before while being on the road to midland and often wanted to stop. This time, I did on the way back. Two stars for having a drive-thru!! Especially one that moved without a long wait. Since it was my first time here, I tried pretty much everything. Brisket, sausage, ribs, and chicken. Unfortunately this style of barbecue isn't my fave. I'm used to the central Texas standard of salt n pepper so this spice rub was challenging. It seemed like they used chili powder. Whatever it is, I'm not a fan. It was fresh though and the sauce tasted like it had mustard in it. That was pretty good. The brisket was flavorless and dry, same with the ribs. The chicken was promising but needs more seating. The sausage is the only thing I ate. It was pretty spicy and not the kind of homemade sausage I'd prefer, but I ate it. I don't live in the area, so no need to try it again.

Both our combo dinners were really good although mine was a little on the spicy side. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and placed our order for dine in. As shown below in a picture we placed our order at 3:53pm and they called our number at 4:07pm, seems a bit long for a fast food restaurant with only 3 other tables of 2. Now here is the issues that ruined the entire first time experience for me. The male employee named Jimmy, as shown on our ticket, came over and wiped off a table right after a female customer left. He did tell her to have a nice evening and then proceeded to wipe off her table with food scraps and a dirty napkin left behind. He simply wiped it off the table top landing on a chair seat and the floor. He then walked back to the customer service counter, stood behind the cash register and started picking his nose. Hopefully the mgr will have a come to Jesus meeting with the entire staff regarding personal hygiene policy. When we got in our car I mentioned this to my husband and he said yes I saw him doing that and wondered if you saw him. Honey, I see everything! Now you know why I gave 1 star.

They scheduled a restaraunt full of reservations all at the same time instead of staggering them a few minutes apart each so that they could keep up with the guests orders. Our drinks took 20-30 minutes to reach the table. I will say the bartender was working hard to keep up, but he definitely needed some help. The salad came out and was good. However, when I ordered my $68 filet, I specifically asked the waiter what it came with. He told me potatoes, and I said, "Perfect." When my steak arrived, there was rice on my plate instead. If someone had simply come back to the table and told me that potatoes were not an option that night, I would have gladly chosen a different dish. It really comes down to basic communication. Our waiter was also the only server covering our side of the restaurant, and it was obvious that he needed help as well. I don't necessarily blame him for everything because he was clearly overwhelmed. What really made the experience worse was the gentleman who came out after we expressed that we didn't like the food. His attitude was essentially "too bad", and he was extremely rude and dismissive. That kind of response to a customer is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the service issues, lack of communication, food disappointment, and especially the rude attitude at the end completely ruined the experience. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Arrived at Jason's, and there was a line more than halfway to the door. This might take a while because I noticed only one person taking orders. Before you know it, I was next to order. Then I saw a hand wave above the cash register, motioning me to come over. That's when I noticed they have three areas open to take orders, and two of them are, let's say, not very tall people. Their heads were lower than the cash registers. You could not see them, but that line disappeared really quickly. Anyway, I placed my order, 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Soup, and a Diet Dr Pepper drink. The lady replied back my order and asked what kind of soup, Tomato Basil or Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I asked her to repeat that, and she said, Tomato Basil or Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I said, I'm sorry, could you repeat the last part. She said, Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw. I then said, Tomato Basil Soup will be fine. For the life of me, I could not understand what kind of soup Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw was, and I don't know if that sounded good or not. But I do know Tomato Basil Soup is a good soup. FYI, the 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread has two-slices of Cheddar Cheese and one-slice (in the center) of Muenster Cheese. That really sounds gooeygoodness to me. I grabbed my cup and number, filled my cup with Diet Dr Pepper (the Texas Coke), and located a table. This place is really busy with only a couple tables open. When one table is available, their Table-Cleaner is right there preparing it for the next customer. That is Service at its Best. Nicely done Jason. In a couple of minutes, my order arrived, and the Tomato Basil Soup was served in a Kettle Bowl style with Chunks of Tomato throughout and melted Chedder Cheese on top. Not what the picture showed on-line, and that looked delicious, and this looks better - Love It. However, the Grilled Cheese Sandwich is cut into small quarters. This 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread is one-tiny-slice, but nicely toasted. Peeked inside for the cheese, and it's only a small dab of yellow and white. This is not a "Brylcreem Commercial" where a 'Little Dab Will Do Ya', it's a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and I'm looking for the Cheese. I do not see how this could be three-slices, which doesn't even go to the edge of the toast. The Tomato Basil Soup is absolutely Delicious and Flavorful, and loving those chunks of tomatoes. Love That Soup. The 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread is toasted perfectly and has the perfect crunch in every bite. Once in a while, you could actually taste a little cheese, but not often. The only thing I was disappointed in was their Grilled Cheese Sandwich with very little cheese. Other than that, I enjoyed my lunch and loved their Tomato Basil Soup. When I left, there was still a line, and it was moving pretty fast. Now I'm wondering what that Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw soup was and how it tasted. I didn't see it on the menu board, so it must be something new they are trying. Maybe next time I will order it, but with something other than the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Check out a Jason's Deli near you, and if they have it, try the Bla,Bla,Ble,Ble,Blaw soup and let me know how it taste.

A pleasant foodie surprise in San Angelo!…read more I had to come into San Angelo for work and going into the trip, I was not too excited about my food options available to me as a vegetarian...but I did find Buttercup online and it seemed close enough to those "hip, city coffee shops", meaning I should be able to get some decent food! Unfortunately, a lot of their hot sandwich options were off the table since they seemed to have a broken toaster, but I was able to order a hummus veggie sandwich that came with seasoned potato chips, a side salad, and a stick of chocolate. I also got a vanilla cake bite (pop without the stick) and everything was about $18 with tip. The ambiance is inviting, and definitely feels like a cozy place for the community to come hang. Joe, Nancy's son, came down for a couple of days, and we decided to go out to eat, but didn't know…read morewhere. Then I remembered a BBQ place just up the street that has great reviews. So that's where we are headed. Up a few blocks, we spotted the BBQ place. It's called "The PIT BBQ"; not many cars here, but it is an early dinner for us. Walked in, and it looks great inside. They have a wall painted stating that 'we were once a trailer, and now we are here', or something like that. Sounds good to me. This is the type of place where you order your food after viewing the Menu Board overhead, and the guy prepares your food right in front of you. Then you pick out your drink and pay for your tray of BBQ Goodness. Joe ordered a 1/4 pound of Fatty Brisket, 1/4 pound of chopped Brisket, 1/4 pound of Jalapeño Sausage, Potato Salad, and Coleslaw. Joe also loaded up his tray with extra Jalapeños, White Onions slivers, and BBQ Sauce. When I try a new BBQ place, I like to sample the meats. I ordered a 1/4 pound of Fatty Brisket, 1/4 pound of regular Sausage, and a Quarter-Chicken. Also, the Potato Salad. I loaded up my tray with Pickles and White Onion slivers, along with the BBQ Sauce. My Wife went with their Chopped Brisket Sandwich and a Diet Coke. Joe went with a Shiner Bock 'Rocket' Draft Beer (Rocket identifies the size of the glass). I am having a Coors Light Draft. Orders are in, and the trays are full of lots of meats. Located a table and poured their BBQ Sauce on the meats on my tray. Joe and I also had a slice of bread. My first bite was the Fatty Brisket, and it was Very Moist, Tasty, and Brisketlicious, with the perfect amount of Fatty on the 1/4 pound slice I have. The BBQ Sauce is also a hit, and one of the Best tasting one in San Angelo. We all LOVE it. Joe also said that the Fatty Brisket is very tasty. My Wife Loved her Chopped Brisket Sandwich, and also said it was the Best one she has had in San Angelo, and that BBQ Sauce goes perfectly with the sandwich. My regular Sausage is Very Tasty with lots of flavor in every bite. The outer casing is a might bit thick for me, but also goes well with the Sausage, lots of flavor throughout. Joe also thought his Chopped Brisket was Very Delicious with lots of flavor, and he Loved the Jalapeno Sausage. It has the right amount of Jalapeno without setting your mouth on fire. Now for that Quarter-Chicken. Most BBQ places, at least for me, dry out their Chicken when BBQing, but at "The PIT BBQ", it comes our Juicy, Tender and Very Tasty. Especially when you add the BBQ Sauce. This is a Big Plus for me, and "The PIT BBQ" is now my favorite BBQ place in town, and we have been to a good number of them. My Wife and Joe feel the same way. This is Way Better than the others. Their Potato Salad is also very flavorful, made with Potatoes that are actually prepared the way they should be. Joe said the coleslaw was very good. This is also a plus for me because some places have a mushy Potato Salad and flat Coleslaw. Let's just say The PIT BBQ has just about everything you need when going out for BBQ, especially if you're looking for the Best BBQ in San Angelo. The seating area inside is very large with tall tables and some great decor all around. Outside, in back, they have an all-covered Patio area with fans blowing and plenty of lights, along with their Trailer they began serving their BBQ. For those cooler months, they also have plenty of heaters throughout. When enjoying your BBQ on the patio, you are on some of the thickest outdoor artificial grass, synthetic grass, artificial turf, or synthetic turf- whatever you want to call it- it's there to give our feet some comfort. Check them out on Facebook, The Pit BBQ San Angelo - also online - On the way home, we were all stuffed because we ate it all, with no leftovers for another day. This means we will be back to try some more of their BBQLiciousness - and enjoying more Cold Draft Beer.

Let me start off by saying Nobody does BBQ like Kansas City, MO and thats a fact! Have you visited…read moreThe World Championship American Royal BBQ in Kansas City, MO? 8/22/2026 we came here on a whim as first time customers. Their menu isn't a typical BBQ menu so it took a little bit for us to decide what we wanted. You place your order at the counter and they build you bowl or plate as you order. We looked at the couple ahead of us in line and said "we will have what they are having". The Gonzo is was and to our surprise we really liked it. I'm not going to give the ingredients so you'll have to go and decide for yourself. The portion sizes are enough for two so decide together if you are going split a meal. They do offer a nice selection of beverages and a small pastry/desert selection. The restaurant was clean, inviting with indoor and outdoor seating and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
