Grieving the loss of my mother and many huge medical expenses of my own, I opted to take a Bucket List trip to Florida. Everything was fine after spending 8 days trying to learn how to be happy again and started home to West Virginia. This is a 14 hr journey one way and my 2015 Ford Escape with high mileage (evey mile put on with love) was running fine. When I pulled off for the evening hotel stop, my car was making whining whirling noise. The next morning I found Meineke Car Care Center located about 1/2 mile from my hotel. The reviews were great so I decided to put my trust in their hands, and OMG I am so very glad I did. I arrived at 7:30am when they opened and Mr Beaver introduced himself. I told him my dilemma of traveling and still over 6 hours to go and the noises my car was making. He assured me I was in good hands. They put my car on the rack to run diagnostics. When he explained my oil leak was major and back brakes needed fixed, I could just see the dollar signs spinning around. The bill caused me to panic and he quickly showed me how to get it financed so I could get the needed work done and back on the road. After 3 hrs and $1750 later I was ready to go. I pulled out and I could still hear the noises. So, they put it back on the rack. They found my throttle motor was blocked from grungy mess over 7 yrs of grime, daily use and Icky build up. He had his team clean it so it could operate properly. Still noise, so he ordered part and had it replaced. 1:30pm we are saying our goodbyes again. I drove my car to interstate and it was still screaming but louder and now dash lights on and it won't shift into gears. So back to shop again!! The team came to my car, what's wrong. I'm in full blown panic attack. Rick the head transmission mechanic came over, started driving it and they put back on rack. This time they drained my transmission fluid, ran a series of cleaners, three in all through my car and put 8 quarts back in process took 2 hrs. At the end, we shook hands, hugged, and I promised to call them back when home and assured me that they all was hoping it was totally fixed. The whole process was scary! Mr Beaver even checked my pulse and stress level with his watch. I was freaking out. My car got me home!! Runs great!! Pulled a 7 mile mountain grade at Fancy Gap Virginia like a new car!!! My 7 year old Ford with 281,965 miles runs like a new energetic baby!!! Thank you so much Meineke Car Center Team for taking care of me!!! Traveling is supposed to be fun, so added stress like car trouble is extremely overwhelming and they made it much easier. After a couple of return visits it still wasn't repaired. The heat would work for a while, but then stop. We ended up having to go to A&M Automotive in Rock Hill, SC to get it fixed. We had to pay out-of-pocket even though this bootleg business had collected the money from CarMax. After my daughter's initial visit, I took my car in for repair. (My daughter's car was temporarily working.) THE WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!! This shop not only TOTALLY DESTROYED my car, but I'm also out of thousands of dollars!!! All of this began in February 2019. We went in because of a spinning sound from the tires. I ended up with a broken broken drive shaft, a hole in my transmission, a hole in my oil pan, a busted shifter and that's just the beginning. We ended up having to go to court. I felt like I had allowed Gomer Pyle and Barney Fife under the hood of my car. Of course we didn't win. It's difficult to prove things with cars. We knew this going in, but we could not sit by and let Jason Shope and his shotty shop get away with destroying another vehicle. We took the car to another shop, but the work done at Shope's Automotive was so shotty, it took this VERY experienced mechanic a while to figure out what could possibly be wrong. The mechanic spoke about how Shope's Automotive forced my car into gear (this should have been a LAST resort), had little to no transmission fluid in the car and how poorly the repair work had been done. I just got my car back today September 7, 2021 by wrecker service. I will give him this. He tried to fix his faulty repairs, but he just doesn't have the skill set. He realizes this so he becomes rude, cruel and obnoxious to cover up for his deficiency. Bottom line...if you never want to see your vehicle in the same or better condition than when you took it in, go to this wannabe mechanic! Others, STEER CLEAR!!! I wouldn't let this Shope's Automotive or Jason Shope perform repair work on my son's Tonka trucks!!!
