These guys roam around the south bay and occasionally pop in San Pedro Square for the moveable feast. The best way to chase them down for a hot dog is through twitter. Service is pretty fast, since everything is pre-cut and the hot dogs and grilled onions are already slightly cooked. All it takes is a bit of assembly work and viola, a quick meal for those craving a bomb diggitty dog. Lines can stretch, so make sure to catch them in the earlier hours of lunch to beat crazy lines and wait. I must say, for a hot dog-it can't get any fancier than this. This is such a change from your standard hot dog with ketchup, mustard and bun (oops, almost forgot the relish and onions). These hot dogs are super creative, like the Kamikaze. Who would have thought that a bacon wrapped hot dog topped with house mayo, onions, seaweed would taste so good? Mmmm, and let's not forget the bun. The bun(s) are those hawaiian buns (yup, the ones from Costco) and even though they are a bit sweeter and softer, they get toasted and the whole thing is just yummy to say the least. Slightly salty, slighty sweet- I could eat 3 of these in one sitting. $5-8 a dog, depending on the order-so not too bad for a gourmet dog. There are a few other choices like the Chili D and Space Needle dog that are pretty good too. The hot dogs themselves are of quality standard. There's even a Bratwurst dog too that I have yet to try. And for the sides, the greasier the better. I always go with the onion rings that I feel are deep fried twice or something. Seriously, greasy goodness all the way. 4/13/15 (update): So I think I already tried all the dogs that interested me: Chili-D, Space Needle, and the Kamikaze. So, figured it's time to start the roundup over again... 1. Kamikaze $8: My previous review indicated this dog was the most beautiful I have ever seen, and unfortunately I doubt the old self would have said the same for today's. Standard piled on ingredients (though of course quite unique ingredients though) with the seaweed blanketing the top in blackness. Still tastes great though--love the crispy seaweed topping, and all the sauce and stuff. Same high-grade, thick hot dog too. And of course, the Hawaiian buns make for the best hot dog buns ever. Wish there was cheese though. But anyway, still one of the best hot dogs out there. I think my first here was better though, so not as perfect anymore... 9/10. 2. Plain fries $3: Always got the tots before but figure I'd be a little different today. Bad choice. Their tots are super good, but these fries suck. I'm not usually a big fan of hot dogs, but Road Dogs is one of my favorites in the area. The last time I went, I tried the Tailgate Dog. It's topped with grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes and a chipotle sauce. It was good, but my favorite, hands down, has to be the Westcoast dog. It has onions, mayo, sweet peppers and bacon. And OMG, I must not forget the tots! Tots are my ultimate weakness. I highly recommend the Kamakazi Tots. It is topped with spicy sauces, seaweed, grilled onions and bacon! DELICIOUS! Road dogs!! Was bomb! Their kamakazi hot dog and fries/tots were the best. There was so much flavor to both of these dishes in every bite it wanted me to get another; but too full from round 1. The hot dog was topped with mayo, seaweed and Sriracha plus grilled sweet onions! Man every bite was flavorful and it lasted until the last bite. Work had this truck come by and I hope they continue because they were really good. Their fries/ tots were bomb as well, crispy and crunchy and the kamakazi flavoring definitely added a nice texture to it. One, I do not like hot dogs, and two, I am a vegetarian... However, I was immediately drawn to their truck because I saw "Low Carb" and "Tofu Dog" !! At first I was skeptical when I saw that they served tofu dogs because I assumed that it would be tasteless and rubbery. Was I wrong! the tofu dog was delicious! I order the low carb (no bun) kamikaze (without bacon) with a tofu dog and I was really impressed with the whole thing. The tofu dog itself had great flavor and it was not rubbery at all. The dog with nori, caramelized onions, and siracha was a great combination. The perfect lunchtime treat for those who like to be adventurous when it comes to food. Hot dog with chili and cheese; hot dog with chicken and chipotle sauce; hot dog with teriyaki sauce and even bacon! In addition, they also loaded serve tater tots and fries! I have a friend named DNR that recommended me to stop by and check this place out. I must admit that these are some of the best hot dogs I've eaten. Their ingredients are fresh and the menu is awesome. I also love the fun bright blue and yellow design of the truck. I've caught this food truck at various Off the Grid locations. The hot dogs are good quality & good-sized, & they come on Hawaiian style bun, so slightly sweet bread. I'm a fan of Japanese flavored toppings on my hot dog (first came across this on a trip to Vancouver), so I like their Kamikaze dog. On my last visit, I also go the Chili D tots. Always looking for a good hotdog. Not sure why the most basic of American comfort foods is so hard to get sometimes. As they made their way into Palo Alto I caught them near the movie theater out back. Had a brattwurst with grilled spicy chicken on it and a frankfurter wrapped in bacon with spicy pickled peppers. Out of the blue, my co-worker shot me a message that a new food truck was nearby. So I pushed aside my boring bologna sandwich and decided to give ROAD DOGS a try. I shared with said co-worker so we could try a few more things. We had a "Tailgate Dog" for $5, which was a hot dog that was topped with tomato, onion, grilled chicken and chipotle sauce. It was very good, very original, and very SPICY! We also got the "Space Needle Dog," which was a hot dog that was topped with cream cheese, kraut, and caramelized onions. The onions were grilled perfectly and matched well with the cream cheese. My co-worker also got a side of chili cheese fries for $4. It was a generous portion, but I didn't love the chili. It was just aight. Both dogs were really good, and unique. I'd go back. Hot dogs aren't my absolute fave, but I will say they suped them up as much as you can. My gf hates hot dogs but actually enjoys eating Road Dogs. She loves their Bomb Zai dog which has unique flavors you'd see on your favorite sushi roll, not a hot dog. I personally enjoy eating the Classic because it has this relish that's not like any other relish I've had. Brown mustard has a nice spice to it and overall it just taste great. Although I like Costco dogs, you're smoking something if you think Costco taste better. Lastly, nobody has a chili dog like RD. Spicy, hot and drenched like you got it at a 7-Eleven but with flavor from a gourmet restaurant. I'm not going to front and say I've been to Chicago or anywhere else that would make me seem like I'm a dog pro. Road Dogs was parked right outside. After glancing at the menu, I decided, why the heck not, I want the most expensive item on the menu. The $8 Kamikaze is pretty much a glorified Bomb Zai (plus bacon and grilled onions). Savory and slightly sweet, it was super delish, topped with Japanese mayo, spicy sauce and seaweed. The guy at the counter was friendly and the order came out in a few minutes. While we were waiting for our order, we started talking with some other people standing in front of the truck. Slow Slow Slow. Over 30 minutes for a PLAIN hot dog and tater tots. Hot dog was for my daughter, but I was so pissed about having to wait that long, I didn't even want to try it. As for the tater tots, they ran out of the one sauce on the menu that I wanted but had to settle for the sweet chili sauce. They were good, but def not worth the wait. Road Dogs was called on for our company's 8 year anniversary. They were swamped by the amount of people ordering but I must say, the wait was worth it. I first ordered the bra bra, but I guess they mistook my order and gave me a kamikaze dog - I ain't complaining 'cause it was free and completely delicious. I went to a Night Market with couple friends last night, and Road Dogs was there. The line was long, but they did prepare my hotdog in an efficient time given the multiple of people they had to serve. Paid $6 for my Bra Bra: Bratwurst was decently flavored, sauerkraut was good, and chipotle flavored added extra kick. Unfortunately about half through my hot dogs, I felt it was lacking in flavors and got tired of it. Having lost Mandy's Corner not too long ago has left a hot dog cart hole in my heart. Having to forego the usual hot dog carts I see around, I found Road Dogs on my smartphone food truck app and they parked at a Sunnyvale location for lunch today. With anticipation, I set out to see what they were all about. My coworker and I split two selections. The Bra-Bra dog was a bratwurst with kraut and spiced chili cabbage of some kind. Wasn't sure if it was kimchi or not since I had already gotten my share of kimchi with BBQ Kalbi and Mogo. The other was the Space Needle dog that had a layer of cream cheese on the bottom with grilled onions and kraut. Certainly these were unusual combos but no guts, no glory! The brat with the cabbage was a safer pick although the pickled kraut and the spicy cabbage made it hard to taste the brat. The Space Needle came with a polish sausage so I tasted that with the cream cheese and the kraut and the onions...all together, it's a lot of creamy, sour, smoky, and tangy all in each bite. Did it work? I had no idea...it was just a lot to process...I do appreciate the unconventional combos so props to them for throwing these out there. Hopefully they can make some more lunch spots in the Santa Clara area as Sunnyvale was a bit out of my way to get to. read more

These guys came by my office today, so I scooted out there to check them out. As I walked up, a guy started talking to me about the menu, and I was thinking "Wow, this stranger is really helpful". After a moment, I realized that the guy actually worked at the truck, and was just chilling on a break. I thought that was pretty cool. I actually almost forgot to order while talking to him! I ended up going with the Tailgate Dog. It turned out even better than it sounded! I actually subbed sweet chili oil for the chipotle sauce, since they didn't have the chipotle. I don't actually like chipotle anyways, so that was fine. It was excellent! The dog itself was fine and dandy, but the toppings were great. The chicken was an awesome addition. Been awhile since I had HOT DOGS so I tried "Road Dogs" Was not that great of an experience.: Pros: 1) Got to have HOT DOGS! Cons: 1) Got the "Classic" and "Chicago" Was not that great. 2) Ordered fries but had to settle for onion rings. didn't want to wait any more than I had already. See below. 3) Service was VERY VERY slow. Had to wait an hour just to get one of the items I ordered. Didn't want to wait any longer for fried. Settled for Onion Rings since they had it ready. I was on lunch from work and one hour killed most of my lunch already. Had to scarf down my food in 15 minutes and get back to work. I was not the only one waiting. Everyone one else was waiting for tots, which were taking a long time also. I also noticed that alot of people who ordered behind me were getting their food. Not a very happy experience. Overall. Road Dogs. You really need to improve your service and how you process orders. I saw ALOT of people waiting for your food. I love the fact they're really creative with their hot dogs. There are different style hot dogs you could choose from, they even have VEGE DOGS for those vegetarians out there. I tried the Bomb-Zai (formerly known as the Kamikaze) with the curly fries and it was amazing. For a good price, you get a delicious all beef dog on a toasted Hawaiian roll topped with grilled onions, seaweed, mayo, teriyaki sauce, and sriracha. You would think all of this stuff on top a hot dog would be overwhelming and messy but it is quite the contrary. The flavors were balanced and perfect and the toasted Hawaiian bun was just the right size and strength to hold it all together. The curly fries were a bit generic, very much like Jack-In-The-Box type, but how much can you really mess up curly fries? A few years ago, I tried the Kamikaze Tots, which are essentially the same toppings on the Bomb-Zai hot dog (formerly Kamikaze), but on tater tots, and that was amazing too! But not only was the Bomb-Zai Dog crazy good, but they were nice enough to put my food in my own personal container that I brought with me. I'm trying to cut down on waste by bringing my own reusable container to restaurants and stores, and a lot of places will refuse your containers. (I understand it in the sense of cleanliness etc) but its always nice to see when businesses will go above and beyond for their customers. read more

This truck stopped by my office a few times and I just had to try it. I've always been looking for a place that offered something more than just your plain old hot dog or polish dog. Road dogs was the answer to my search and I absolutely love their hot dogs! It can be quite messy though as they do pile on the toppings and sauces! My favorite here has got to be the Kamikaze Dog. It is an interesting fusion of the american hot dog and Japanese toppings (and it has bacon!). The tots here are good as well, though I can live without them.
