We've been frequenting this establishment on a regular basis for over 10 years. Unfortunately, the ownership changed over the summer and the food & service has gone downhill. On one visit, my over medium eggs were runny and gross...served with burnt toast! Another visit, my over medium eggs were well done. Today, we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast. My over medium eggs looked to be cooked on a greasy griddle, over cooked on the outside and running in the middle. Certainly a far cry from the white fluffy organic eggs I've grown use to from this place. My husband ordered one of the specials which was suppose to be served with real maple syrup and a side of meat. No real maple syrup and no meat was offered. When we complained, the owner told someone else to take care of it and didn't bother to apologize and make things right. To compensate us, they took my soda off the bill. Wow, like maybe 50 cents out of their pocket. Sorry to say, they won't be getting any more of my money! So disappointed! It was truly my favorite place! read more

My grandparents brought my brother and I here once and barely ate anything. The toast was burnt and the eggs tasted bad. My grandpa's food was good, but we waited a while for his. The staff was nice when my grandma told them. They said if we come back they'll give us half off and they also only charged us for the for the drinks and my grandfathers meal. We went back and ate there for half off a week later. They recognized us and made sure the food was all good. This time the food was great! I want to go back sometime!! read more

We have been frequenting this restaurant for several years now and have always loved the food. On a few occasions we have experienced poor service with orders not being correct or an occasional plate of beyond crispy home fries. Yesterday, Monday, July 2nd at approximately 11:30 a.m., my mother and I ordered breakfast here. There was only one other table with two gentlemen having breakfast inside the restaurant. When our breakfast arrived, the home fries were "burnt", as hard as a rock black charcoal pieces with just a few pieces you could even identify as home fries. They were all burnt. Our eggs had several pieces of black charcoal underneath them and all the home fries were just hard charcoal burnt pieces. In a quiet manner, I tried to tell the waitress that this was no way to serve food to anyone and the home fries were burnt. Rather than offer us new home fries, she said that it was probably because someone before us ordered home fries extra crispy and ours were cooked on top of it. We were stunned at the response. She said a lot of people like it that way. I told her that was impossible that these were extremely burnt and I tapped them on the plate to show her how hard they were. You could clearly see they were completely black charcoal pieces. I have had many home fries at Roadside and never had anything like this served to us. I asked for the Manager and, she stated "The Manager was not in". She then sent the cook over to us. We were mortified. I have never had a cook come over and I don't think this was a good idea. He immediately became defensive and said that is what they are known for and advertise "Extra Crispy Home fries". I said these were not extra crispy, they are BURNT, beyond burnt, and this should never be served to anyone . You could not even identify it was food for that matter. My mother and I could not believe the attitudes we were getting and the words which were being said in response to this situation. We have eaten there so many times, have even brought home coffee mugs from Roadside, etc... We wanted you to be aware of this situation as we are from Ware and will not be eating at this Restaurant again due to this incident, regretfully. A waitress should not treat customers as if they should be expected to eat burnt food, and a cook should definitely become defensive and state "that just the way it is". We have visited your restaurant several times in the past few months and it appears that the service has gone downhill with staff who is way too comfortable being disrespectful to customers. We are very friendly, fair and good people who should never have been treated this way. Not to mention my mother is 82 years old and did not deserve to have two young people like this disrespect her during this situation. It was more than obvious this food was burnt. To add insult to injury, we received the bill and another $2.75 was added for bacon, which came with our #3 selection. I asked the waitress to take if off our bill, which she did. We had also ordered a side order of Oatmeal Bread which never came, and I had to re-order it. By the time we received it, we were ready to leave the restaurant. read more

A great local brunch place. Came here on weekday mornings when it's not busy- service was great. Oatmeal was whole grain, very tasty- eggs, omelette, toast options all very nice. Prices as you'd expect for organic food, but they're also very accommodating of dietary restrictions. read more

Had I written this review 6 or 7 years ago, it would have been much better, but I have to say that with time, the Roadhouse hasn't gotten better, which makes me sad. We've found other places to go to eat breakfast, but I wanted to come back to this one since I was hoping it would be more like it used to be, not like it has been recently. Unfortunately, my recent stop there was just another meal like the others I've had there recently; not much food on the plate, more expensive than what we usually pay, and just not that good. Portions appear to have gotten smaller, and the prices are up. Yes, it is organic, *if* that matters to you. To me; it doesn't. When I go out to eat breakfast, I want to feel full, not like I'm still looking to eat more. The corned beef hash that I split with my dinner companion? Half of a small sandwich plate had some corned beef on it, and $4.25 for this portion? And it wasn't even that good. Omelets are almost $10, for 2 veggies and a cheese, or a meat and a cheese. That makes the Roadhouse one of the most expensive breakfast places in this area. Homefries have burnt herbs on them; that isn't good. The coffee was good; Pierce Brothers coffee. Honestly? This might be my last trip to the Roadhouse. I can go to the center of Belchertown or over to Hadley for better food, that won't have me spending $15 per person to eat. read more

The Roadhouse Café in Belchertown is a hidden gem. The food is always delicious, and the bread, which is made in-house, is very tasty. All items are fresh and organic. They do have outdoor seating available for warmer months. My only quibble is the service. Everyone is incredible friendly, but they don't seem to have a good system for editing orders or making adjustments. Several times when I have gone to this establishment, there have been things missing from my order (side of bacon, side of toast, pancake, coffee cake, etc). This place DOES get very busy on the weekends and is seems as though mostly high-school students work here, which equates to inexperienced servers. This does not deter me as a customer because the food is really the best breakfast around, but I could see how this may give a bad first impression to guests who are not locals. Overall: Roadhouse Café will always be one of my favorite breakfast spots in New England! read more

It was our first time visiting the Roadhouse, it's a small place but fortunately it was a nice day and were able to eat outside. We ordered two of the specials - Rancheros (over jalapeño corn bread) and the Egg Casserole and two regular menu items. The specials were both GREAT choices! The staff was friendly, coffee was decent (and they had ice coffee with coffee ice cubes), portions were generous, food was delicious and the bread was AMAZING (especially the garlic dill, banana and sundried tomato)! I love Roadhouse Cafe and I go there every time I'm in Amherst. I agree that sometimes you have to wait a bit longer than at other places, but I prefer it this way. I like to be able to enjoy my coffee and not rush through the breakfast, but that may just be my preference. We always order the same - eggs any style and different kind of pancakes and never had a "miss". Their choice of organic eggs is definitely a plus, decor is cute and cozy and their service is good. Went by chance, as we saw it on our way to Amherst trying to avoid the highway and enjoy the sites. The service was almost forced and we were given the impression that we were wasting the waitress time for not being ready to order when she arrived which was about two minutes after we had found a table. I ordered a walnut french toast dish with eggs with milk and tea, the rest ordered other kind of breakfasts plates. My dish was not spectacular since the eggs were runny and walnut french toast looked like it had sat there from a previous order that had not panned through. Since our party comprised of four adults and three children, we expected for the bill to about $40-$45 but we were hit with a $60 bill and a rude cashier. Seems to be that the magnetic strip on my husband's card was not reading which made me use my card. Since we have the same bank, our cards looked the same but that just made even more difficult for the cashier. She promptly dropped the card on the counter stating that it was the same card and that she wanted our payment in cash. I pointed out that it was my card which shifted the argument to the fact that since we had accounts in the same bank that my card would be denied too. After that fiasco was resolved (with no apology from the establishment, mind you), we left with too bad tastes in our mouths: the food and the establishment culture. read more

This place seems to be a little overrated. After a bunch of buildup and a 20 minute wait, the gf and I were seated at a tiny two-person table. I got a coffee and eggs benedict. The coffee was disappointingly weak. The benedict was pretty unexciting. Instead of the tiny piece of Canadian bacon I'm used to, it came with thick pieces of pork, which was actually pretty nice. Unfortunately, the eggs were a little overdone and the hollandaise was grainy and a little bland. The gf's pancake tasted good, but it wasn't anything special. For these prices, I was looking for something a little more unique, but long waits and grainy hollandaise weren't it. read more

I'm a bit disappointed with this place. We stopped in on Saturday morning, and expected it to be busy, but didn't expect the food to be mediocre. The service was good, despite the busy time. The coffee cake was delicious. Yes, it was microwaved, which I don't have a problem with. Some people on here do. I ordered the Mt Tom, which is supposed to be busting with veggies. I swear it didn't have all the veggies advertised in it, which my companion agreed with me on. The food was way too salty. Please guys, if you read this-calm down on the salt! My companion noted that there was too much pepper, too. Maybe use some garlic to flavor? I really like the ideals behind this place, and it could be fantastic with some changes. The atmosphere is pleasant, and I'm willing to pay for organic breakfast if it's solid. I want to love this place. read more

Where do I start. This experience was the second bad experience here. After the first Time here I thought this could have been a very bad day for the kitchen and staff (waited 45 mins for eggs and a breakfast sandwich) this second was not any better. We ordered a breakfast meal and breakfast sandwich which came to the table messed up. A large milk was a small six ounce cup and a large Apple juice was a small bottle. Then we got the check which was a laughable 28 bucks. I want to like this place being a local and all but if you want a good reasonable priced breakfast there are far better in b town. read more

Brought the family for an early breakfast. Make sure you bring your appetite, the portions were huge. My kid had the biggest pancake she'd ever seen. This little cafe was a happy accident!! Was with my son, and wanted to go elsewhere but was closed( it was a Monday) so I put into my gps something close and within a mile here it was. My son had never been here. A small little quaint cafe we entered and were greeted immediately. Not sure what to expect we sat near a fire, a very cute woody cottage cozy feel to this place. I then open opened the menu and was stunned!! Tons of organic, gluten free, vegetarian items to choose from .. everything home made, salads made with spinach, not lettuce! I was stunned.. I ordered a veggie panini that came with chips or salad. I chose the salad which was spinach, tomatoes, peppers, onions, homemade balsamic dressing & I am positive I am forgetting something else that was in that fantastic salad. I also ordered to drink a chai never had one wanted to try it and it was fantastic. My son ordered just a side of corn beef hash. He wasn't really hungry they did a homemade hash which contain horseradish sauce and made it extremely spicy, he did not care for this and when the waitress return to the table I made mention that he wasn't used to a homemade one and he complained it was somewhat hot and spicy she made mention that it is all homemade and it contains horseradish sauce.. she could not of handled the situation any better and offered to give him something else he ordered Kabasa which he was very happy with I was planning on just paying the bill with the corn beef hash, she even took the bill and adjusted the price. I made mention to her that there was no need to do that as she took back the hash, we did not know it was homemade and contained this horseradish sauce and I was happy to pay for the way it was and she said no need. I seriously cannot wait to go back to this place it was fantastic! The atmosphere was wonderful, the food was wonderful. I am a vegetarian it offered so many things for a vegetarian or somebody who is gluten intolerant. I would call this place a happy accident on Monday and looking forward to the next time that I can go back. The organic blueberry pancake was very good & oversized. The wait staff is pleasant & attentive. I will come back when I'm in the area again. We used to really enjoy this place for lunch...good organic food and homemade breads. But now, twice in a row, the food has been a big disappointment and the service not much better -- 30 minutes plus wait for a sandwich when the place is empty doesn't make sense. Today's sandwich was served with an end crust of not the freshest bread and the other sandwich didn't have the pesto mayo it was supposed to have. Last time, the roast beef was so overdone and dry it couldn't be easily cut more less chewed. The chips were stale, and the soup was strange. We won't be back. read more

They get stars for being the only smoothies in town (and they're good smoothies) and for having organic food. However, I've pretty much stopped going here when I visit the folks. After several visits, it became clear that portion and price were not their strong suits, and the preparation was sometimes off, even if it wasn't particularly crowded. I had undercooked scrambled eggs and overcooked toast once or twice, and my dad had under-easy over-easies more than once. The staff has always been really friendly but sometimes seem to forget the basics like cleaning the tables well. I *really* wanted to like them - like I said, we went several times - but when two eggs start to look like one and the coffee refills are slow to come, you give up after a while. The Roadhouse's heart is definitely in the right place, but the business practices don't always seem to match. I still keep my fingers crossed. read more

I wanted to love this restaurant. It's organic, not a chain, and close to home. But it was not to be. I went to breakfast with two others and we were all so disappointed. I ordered a sausage, egg & cheese biscuit with vegetarian sausage. I got an egg & cheese with veggie sausage on the side. I indicated that oh I wanted the sausage in the sandwich and the owner says, "well, you'll just have to put it in yourself." Um, ok, no big deal, I'll do that... Not loving her tone, but ok. I open the sandwich and there's pork sausage. So I told her there was pork in the sandwich and she replied, "it's ok, we can fix it." Ok fine. It came back in the same biscuit as the pork sausage sandwich. I'm not ok with waste, but that's a pretty disrespectful thing for a restaurant to do. In addition, all of us ordered meals with homefries. The herbs were like burnt on, not edible. One person asked for one egg instead of two (that came with the meal). She got an extra egg on the side, and they were not cooked correctly. Oh and we got charged for an extra egg. Finally, the third diner got a pancake. A huge, pretty pancake- but oh so dry. We ended up paying a lot for a really bad meal. There are other, high quality restaurants in Belchertown. I suggest going to one of those establishments for two meals over one visit at the Roadhouse. read more

There was an extreme wait for our food that took over an hour. Multiple customers were going up to the counter asking for a time frame for their food. Granted it was during the rush hour of breakfast. However, the service as extremely slow. It took our party 45 minutes to just ask (ourselves instead of our waitress) for more beverages. While we were there, there was another party that was complaining which seemed to be about the same thing, and the waitress had very poor customer service while the gentleman who was complaining remained calm and collective. Everyone stopped to see what was going on. They asked to speak to the owner and the owner, instead of coming out and explaining that it was really busy and apologizing for the wait, takes a photo of the party and states "this is for the police when you don't pay for your food". He walks away without saying anything else. Very poor customer service all around. I wish I experienced something better with that situation. I will not be returning due to that experience and customer service. read more

The Roadhouse has been our go-to breakfast spot for years.Today was our second visit since the new owners took over and it will be the last visit. On our previous visit a few weeks back I ordered the croissant sandwich, only to be told they were out of croissants. So I went with the biscuit sandwich which was ok. My companion ordered eggs Benedict, only to be told they were out of Canadian bacon. Hmm, 2 of their better known dishes and they were out of main ingredients? Could be just a fluke, so we decided to give them time to get settled in and tried again. Today's breakfast was one of the worst restaurant meals we've ever had. Waitress brought us coffee right away. Coffee tasted burned. They used to have real light cream on the table, but have changed over to those little plastic creamers. Not a good change. 20 minutes later, the waitress stopped at out table looking confused and said, "You ordered, right?" Nope. She took our order. And we waited. And waited. The owner came by with the coffee pot, my companion got a refill and I declined. Literally less than a minute later she came back and asked if we wanted refills. The food finally arrived. I'd ordered 2 eggs over medium and white toast, specifically declining home fries. Plate arrived with homefries, although we weren't charged for them. The eggs were both browned AND undercooked, a fairly remarkable achievement. The bread was completely flavorless. Ironically the best thing on my plate was the homefries which i hadn't even ordered. My companion's omelet was an unformed mess of eggs and vegetables, though it tasted ok. The Roadhouse was always fairly notorious for slow service, but the excellent food made ithe wait completely worthwhile. That is no longer the case. All in all a very disappointing experience and, given the presence of other, better breakfast places around, one we will not be having again. read more

Stopped in for what I was told was the best pancake ever. My companion had just weeks ago eaten the same bfast-pancake and bacon and raved about it. We were the only ones in the dining area, one man at the counter. The waitress spent the entire time we were there telling the guy at the counter about her new residence. She also complained that the"boss" reprimanded her for not cleaning and that others don't clean but she doesn't "tattle". The pancake was saturated with oil-I mean soaked, inedible. I heard the micro cook or at least warm our bacon, not what I expected in an " organic" eatery. The bacon was the crappy thin stuff not the local, thick good stuff that should be in a $12.00 + breakfast! Can't stand this type of eatery, shocked that I see peeps standing outside in the winter to eat there! By the way, it took an hour with only us and one other guy in the pace! I'll travel elsewhere to get a good $25 bfast, no more roadhouse for me! read more

Customer service was absolutely terrible! After initially being seated and served coffee, water and a glass of juice the waitress took our order and then disappeared. Yes it was a busy Sunday morning. However at no time did she come back to offer more coffee etc. An hour into our wait I asked if we would be served soon she stated it shouldn't be long that there was a back up on the grill. At that time I asked if there was a manager or owner to speak with about having our bill adjusted. She stated that she would look into it. A few minutes later she came back and stated that the owner was on the grill and that she couldn't make that decision. A member of our party (who asked nicely mind you) asked if at some point the owner could step out to speak with us and the waitress flipped! She became belligerent, used profanity, got red in the face and was very loud. You could have heard a pin drop! Shortly after, someone finally brought our order to our table. As we were eating, the OWNER came up snapped a photo of us and said that he would show that to the police when we didn't pay for our food. Wouldn't you think he would have been apologetic for the way his staff was treating his customers? Of course we paid. The only reason I gave it one star is because I had to choose something. read more
