From the moment we parked, I smelled roasted coffee and freshly baked pastries. And it smelled even better inside! The coffee itself was great - not overly sweet like some coffee shops, and I was able to enjoy the flavors of the coffee itself. I ordered a Mexican Mocha and my girlfriend ordered a White Mocha - both of which were fantastic. There are musical instruments hanging on the wall, bongo drums, small ukuleles, and numerous older games. What a funky little experience this place was! Ok, so the short of the long is this: decent coffee, trippy ambiance, and well, that's about it. And when I say trippy, I mean this place struggled to not stay back in the 60's and 70's. It's very clearly a locals joint, and it has seating for maybe 8 or 10 patrons at most, and it's very conveniently located along Pacific Coast Highway on the northern edge of Bodega Bay, so if you're on your way out to sightsee or on the way back, it's a simple jaunt in to grab some caffeine and be on your way. Without question the highlight of our 15 minute stop was listening to the lady that worked the counter grumble on and on about how she was closing in 15 minutes, and how it would be nice if everybody left early... just minutes before a rush of people came in willing to give her money. Even then she still grumbled - and I mean she actually grumbled like a pissed off Army drill sergeant drilling his troops in cold rain - about how people really shouldn't have a seat since she was getting ready to close. I'm not saying this to bash her, but boy oh boy did she give that place the color that made this stop stand out... without her, it would have simply been another "ok" cup of coffee along the coast. It's pretty cool that there are a smattering of books on the shelves and some coffee cups hanging up behind the desk. Obviously a lot of locals frequent here, as the tack boards get plenty of use, and folks were busily chatting with one another when we came in, all of which is definitely cool with me. Another funny little quirk about this place was the complete absence of any kind of price list for the coffee... that is unless it was buried under all the other stuff on the walls, like the vintage Uncle Sam poster that said "This place is bugged". For all we know, the lady was making prices up as she went along, but hey, $5.50 for two lattes ain't a bad deal when you're used to getting ripped off by Starbucks and Peet's. Come to think of it, there wasn't even a list of the coffees she could make... you either need to ask, use Jedi mind tricks, or use Sherlock Holmes' powers of deductive reasoning to construct reasonable assumptions about what might be possible. I used the latter. It was by observing the syrup on the back shelf and the espresso machine off to the side that led to me to believe I could get what I was after. One vanilla latte, please. And so it was. What another reviewer said about this place being straight out of somebody's kitchen is spot on. In a way, it sorta reminded me of the basement one of my neighbor's had back in the 70's. The coffee itself was just fine and priced well. If you need a cuppa joe in Bodega Bay, this is your joint. read more

Rude person behind to the counter, older man not sure if he is the owner or not. Somehow made a tasteless Earl Grey tea latte... come to realize the tea bag wasn't in there and couldn't have been steeped for more than a few minutes if at all (couldn't taste a thing). Went back to ask for a teabag and he attempted to pull it out of some kind of trash bin behind the counter? My husband just asked if we could grab a new one, and when he did, I saw that the only Earl Grey or black tea for that matter was a decaf Earl Grey... which was never disclosed?? You must tell your customers its a decaf Earl Grey. Come on. Steeped it for a long while and still pretty tasteless. My thought is the decaf Earl Grey was extremely past its prime. Great place. I was staying nearby and this was the first coffee shop I happened upon. The first day there was hardly anyone in there and I got to chat with the owner for awhile. He made some great recommendations for the area, lent me a book off the shelf, and when we started talking about garlic he made me a piece of toast with fresh garlic rubbed on. I had an amazing piece of zucchini bread that is rumored to be gone before 10 am most days. The next day it was incredibly busy with locals and tourists so I didn't get a chance to chat, but the organic coffee was stellar. read more

The only thing that prevents me from giving it six stars is that Yelp only allows five stars. I've tried EVERY place that sells coffee in western Sonoma County - yes, Cazadero, Monte Rio, Jenner, Bodega Bay, Occidental, Sebastopol, Valley Ford, Bodega...you name it, I've been there at least once or twice. This place has the best tasting coffee of anyone out there. The service is very friendly, Jim the owner and his lovely daughters create a friendly environment to go and relax after a night of work. His other staff are friendly and efficient (not as much as Jim, but still five-star worthy), and it creates an environment where I know what I like, and I like what I know... ...and Roadhouse Coffee is what I know and like. Never have an issue parking, and even when there's a line out the door, it's worth the wait. read more

We have trouble finding cakes and pastries that we like. We just went into here before waiting for the restaurant to open. We ordered just to try, not expecting much, really sweet elderly gentleman serving and young surfer type guy hanging out to talk to him , both so friendly despite constant stream of customers watched him carefully serving, baking, and then, Wow, Gee this pesto croissant tastes good! He brings out a fresh baked tray of almond paste croissants. So we bought more, our tastebuds in sweet heaven. Should have stayed there eaten more, one of the reasons to go to Bodega Bay. read more

I love their take on an apple fritter and their almond cherry scones are so flavorful, I always get one! The wifi connection is fast, the coffee is great (I had two of the mexican mocha's!) and the people (both staff and customers) are super friendly. Made me feel like a local right away. I was looking for a coffee place to stop at for a quick road break, and Roadhouse Coffee showed up on yelp with awesome reviews, and I am here to add one more to the list of awesomeness. When I walked inside I felt like I was walking into a thrift shop. The decor of the place just feels really relaxed and homey, with a old school sofas, records, and books around. In the back is a guy with a big beard and a big smile who serves of cups of deliciousness and baked items of heaven. What I really loved was that when I was looking over the baked items, they were all in what looked like baking sheets and pans that could have come straight out of my mom's kitchen. No fancy presentations, no industrial products, just home cooked yumminess. I got a Mexican mocha and a blueberry coffee cake, and it was so frickin delicious!! I wish I could have that mexican mocha every single day. Anyway, this place kicks butt, and I wish it wasn't so far away, but alas it may be months/years before I am able to come by again. :( if you are cruising up highway 1 and swinging through Bodega Bay, stop by and have a mexican mocha for me! read more

I like coffee. I especially like coffee when I'm on my way out to, or just coming back from, the Sonoma Coast. Since I go to the coast often, I often find myself liking coffee in this context about once a week. Thankfully there's Roadhouse Coffee in Bodega Bay - I simply won't go anywhere else in the area.* The people who own/operate this place are wonderful, the coffee is solid, the prices are reasonable, the pastries are tasty, and the atmosphere is, well, kinda like you were kicking it at a friend's place. And when you're a local just looking for a little coffee to hit the spot then that's exactly what you want. This was such a great find. I tried a chai latte (iced and hot, because we had to stop again before leaving the area) and it was one of the best I've ever had. They use a great chai blend--it's just sweet enough with all the right spices. The cafe itself is small and comforting, almost like another room in your apartment, but with a stocked pastry case and an incredibly friendly bearded man making beverages. We talked to Jim (the owner) for a while about the area, and he couldn't have been nicer. He even gave us tips on where to hike nearby (Bodega Head was a great recommendation). Also, the PASTRIES. They're all homemade by the owner's daughter, and they're delicious. We tried the blueberry coffee cake and the raspberry danish, which were both awesome. Lastly, they carry a bunch of string instruments (guitars, ukeleles, even a mandolin) and Jim is totally okay with people sitting down and playing, which just added a cherry on top of everything. I L-O-V-E this place. I also L-O-V-E the delish coffee that Jim (the owner) makes. I am pleased to say that this place, when Jim is working, has one of the best lattes in the area. Seriously! My all-time favorite coffee place in the world (so far) is Stumptown in Portland, Oregon AND Jim's coffee is just as good. Unfortunately, Jim is the ONLY one that makes amazing coffee. The parking is a little tight, but whatever. I'd park and walk a mile for a taste of that delicious liquid in a cup. The owner's daughter makes the BEST baked goods! They are divine. The shop is also very sweet. Comfy. Good books to read. Artsy. Yeah, I can see myself hanging out here on my days off. Great place...go in, buy a lotta stuff and see for yourself. To my knowledge, this is the only coffee shop in Bodega Bay. The owner is a friendly retired guy making ends meet by working. His daughter does some baking which they have in a display case. Ask what was baked that day as I have seen some items in the case for two or even three days. If you need WiFi, this is likely your place. It has personality, and it is fun... Also, if you have any questions about the area; he is a good person to ask... Recommendation, buy his house coffee if you are staying/renting for awhile instead of buying canned ground coffee from either of the two stores in town. He will fill a large paper cup which is about a half pound. That lasted me a couple of days, and I would then go back for more. read more

We only got a cup of coffee here, so can't comment on much else. However, the cup of coffee tasted good, although it was strong! I usually drink my coffee black and this coffee still tasted pretty strong with cream in it. We came right before closing and they were nice enough to make us an cup of coffee from drip. Stopped in after an afternoon at Bodega Head. Cute, inviting coffee shop. A place where the locals say hello, even when they've never met you before. I love places like that. Had both a chai and a hazelnut latte, and they were delicious. While here, a woman said she was there for some cookies. They asked, "how many?" The response: "How many do you got?" Really cute coffee joint. I ordered the apple cider - it was a good size, price, temperature and was ready quickly. It was a nice rainy day in the bay and being able to tuck into this coffee place with my friends was great. There were quite a few of us and the place is a bit small so we stood outside but it was a great experience regardless (you can't expect a small roadside place to accommodate 10 college students). The atmosphere is really cozy though and the people around the cafe are really friendly - they gave us restaurant recommendations and didn't look at us with judging stares as we tried to figure everything out. I wish I was in Bodega Bay more often, I would absolutely frequent this place. read more
