I was referred to this place by a friend definitely didn't disappoint. They have a great atmosphere here , all the employees were very friendly they make you feel right at home . Also dog friendly my friend brought her dog . Sadly, this 1 star rating is for Sage, the bartender. I politely asked if he could explain the two types of Froses because they clearly have 2 different kinds from looking at the machine. And then he looked at me like I was dumb (stared wide eyed & tilted his head) and said, "It's... a. FROSE. A frozen margarita??" I looked at him dumbfounded & shocked like? I KNOW. I then asked him what the difference was. Thankfully his coworker next to him knew I became very annoyed at the rude service, and answered for him because he actually knew what I was asking. So THANK YOU, to the other bartender there on 9/12 in the evening time. I'm giving you a 5/5! You're customer service is on pointe while the other guy wasn't up to par. Food: 5/5! First things first, the food is actually quite food. Got the carne asada (TJ style) and al pastor tacos (comes with a nice chunk of pineapple), as well as the churros. Meat was well seasoned and tasty, guac was fresh and tortillos were nicely charred. Churro comes with whipping cream, condensed milk and chocolate sauce (really bomb). So what's up with the 3 star review? I took the food to-go, so my comparison here is taco truck pricing, which I fully understand is not entirely fair to Roadside Taco, but just wanted to be abundantly clear on why I am reviewing in this manner. Tacos are in the $4-5 range, but the sizes are the same as what you might see at a taco truck. There also isn't a separate self-service salsa bar that I could see (though they had a fridge with some packaged salsa in cups, but charge $1.50). From a pure value perspective, I don't really think the quality of the food warrants a 3x upcharge (tacos are good, but not that much better than taco trucks). I simply can't justify spending $20 on two tacos and churros. If you're set on going to Roadside Taco, would highly recommend dining in as opposed to take out. They also have a taco Tuesday deal ($2 tacos and drink deals), but that is dine-in only. Staff is very friendly. read more

Don't get me wrong, the food was good. But this place was had some logistical things to work out. I went last Tuesday and was thrilled to see a sign saying: "All margaritas $10." I'm currently trying to keep finances lean, so hearing that I could get a spicy mezcal for $10 was great. Ordered and closed out, only to learn the drink was $13?!? Not crazy, BUT I would have ordered whatever the $10 drink was. When I asked the bartender, he said that, yeah, mezcal is more expensive and that the sign could be a little "unclear." YES. Don't put out a sign saying ALL MARGARITAS when it's not. Super annoying, but I tipped and went on my way. Flash forward to today when I check my credit card statement to see that, not only was I billed for my stupid margarita, but I was billed TWICE (once pre tip, once post). Decided to give Roadside Taco a try last night, having just returned from Mexico City where I ate tacos the Best Tacos Al Pastor In The World (at El Borrego Viudo, as seen on Taco Chronicles). Made an easy reservation online for 6 PM, and at 5:45 headed over. Found a parking spot on Ventura and walked a block to the restaurant. The hostess asked if I had a reservation & I told her I did. She walked us to our table (my name was on a card identifying our spot!) and explained how "backyard style" works. We went to the bar first (no line) and I ordered a house margarita and my wife ordered a michelada. I left my credit card at the bar to keep my tab open and we headed inside to order our food (only one person in front of us) and ordered tacos, street corn, and nachos. We headed back to our table and enjoyed the backyard vibe, sipping our drinks and listening to their eclectic playlist. A few minutes later I got a text that our food was ready, so I headed inside to pick it up. Brought it back to the table (stopping at the bar to order another drink) (a Paloma this time) and we dug in. I really enjoyed the pastor taco. The meat was flavorful and the tortilla was excellent. My asada taco was just ok - I wouldn't order it again. My son said his fish taco was good and the nachos (with chorizo) were great! While my wife was enjoying her tacos & street corn, I headed back to the bar and ordered a spicy margarita - muddled habanero gave it quite a kick! It was nice talking drinks with the bartenders - if they had stools at the bar I'd be a regular. (Wait - were there stools at the bar? My memory is a bit fuzzy.) (From the tequila...) We stayed for a bit after we finished everything just enjoying the chill patio vibe. I cashed out, and we headed back home (my wife driving!), stopping at Gelson's on the way for a bottle of Clase Azul so I could keep the vibe going. Sure it set me back more than I would have paid at Salsa and Beer, but Roadside Taco is well worth the splurge in my opinion. We'll be back! read more

First Of all for the prices I hate this concept. You have to get up order drinks in a line, then go to a separate line to order food, only to be texted to get up again to retrieve your food. Served on the shittiest paper plate, Roadside indeed. The food was wack. Totally unbalanced Like they just scooped ingredients from a Buffett. New yummy neighborhood taco joint within a block of two awesome taco joints and totally stands up... you'd think no one can compete on tacos just a block from Poquito Más but Roadside delivers great craft tacos, margaritas and frozen ice cream bars with plenty of seating. We live a block away and now eat twice as many tacos as before. Also a great option for tourist looking to escape the overpriced meals at Universal. The two stars is for the ambiance, the ability to make reservations, and the busboys attention. Everything else sucked. First no valet. Parking is hard to find, and the lot across is a pain to cross. Made reservations few days in advance for 6 people and we showed up to an odd small table attached to a 4 person table - they had enough time to attach a decent table to make it for 6. For the price of the food and drinks I would expect a wait staff but none was found and we were told to order at two different lines. The water cups were tiny tiny - like I gotta walk back and forth to get water during dinner. The food was whatever given you can get amazing Mexican for half the price. So I tried all the tacos here, great quality meat and fish/shrimp, and they are all amazing, everything is delicious, and there is bar, there's great energy and a nice outdoor dining area as well... The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is (IMO) that the price of a single taco is around $4...now that's not so bad, I've paid $4 a taco before...however the tacos are smaller then a $1 street taco, and that's what's crazy, the tortillas also get super soggy and break in your hand from all the juice...I could literally go to so many other taco trucks or even a nice restaurant and get better and bigger tacos for less money, and that is the reason, the employees and the rent of the space may be included in the taco price, which is fair...but then maybe just make them bigger and I'll be glad to come back and pay $4 BUT until then I'm happier with local street vendors and a couple hole in the wall spots read more

I just had the most terrible service issue with this place. I not only waited for delivery over 1 hour But they never called or did anything to let me know what was going on. I called support and they told me it had been delivered which was a lie. Then I recieve a text that there was a problem and they cancelled my order. Still nothing but crickets. I thought i would try this place and I see it was a big mistake. Please be aware that this is not acceptable service and perhaps they need some instruction on how to provide the proper service to their customers. I'm giving 5 stars solely for the owner Vinnie and the quality of the tacos & margaritas! Here's the scoop: Drinks- amazing! Very strong! I had a strawberry margarita and it was absolutely delish! Food- my gf and I tried oodles of different tacos and they were all f*cking DELICIOUS!! Guacamole- hard pass. It was more of an avocado salsa. Not your traditional texture and while it was tasty, it was in no way what you think of when you think of guac. I actually went back to the area you pick your food up to ask if this was actually guac! I ended up returning it and the owner Vinnie came over to discuss the situation. He went into great detail about how his chef wanted to make a unique guac with all of these fresh flavors and they went back and forth about it while creating the menu. He was so sweet to even not only remove it from our bill, but bring my friend and I tequila shots as a replacement. Solid move there Vinnie, we were very happy! Haha! He event said next time I come, he would personally have the chef make me a traditional guac if I desired. Very sweet! I think maybe add that to the menu as an option- traditional guac OR this 'chef inspired' take on guac. Atmosphere- Perfect! Loved the artwork on the walls! As the sun was setting, the sky literally looked like the mural of the sunset on the walls and it was beautiful. Style of place- interesting. Booked a table on open door and it was easy. Once we arrived, they said you go to the bar for drinks yourself. Then you go to another walk up area to order food, and then go retrieve your food once it's ready (they send you a text.) There was a third station where you walk up and grab water if you want that. While this is an interesting concept, I don't know if they have gotten the smoothness down yet. More bar staff was definitely needed as well as that area you order your food. They should have at least 2-3 people taking food orders on a weekend night, as the line was usually 15 people deep at any given time and only 1 girl was taking orders. I would eat here again, but probably for lunch and not dinner due to the long lines at the bar and the food area. Tacos were solid AF and again, Vinnie was great! read more

I found this place on accident and it's such a hidden gem!!! With an adorable back patio vibe and DELICIOUS tacos- what more can you ask for?? My favorite is the El Pastor with its fresh pineapple! Honestly, this is the worst taco Tuesday experience I've ever had. I am mexiI would've rather had Jack in the Box or Taco Bell tacos. The fact that these tacos are $6 is a disgrace. I read dude's bio on his website and went through all of these reviews before ordering and I wish I would've read through the "negative" reviews before spending an absurd amount on these tacos. My bf and I spent more time laughing at how awful our tacos were than it took for us to get through a couple of bites. Spent a couple nights around this location and felt like getting some tacos. We got a friendly greeting from the hostess out front, but that's where the positive things ended. Cashier was not really rude, just very cold and inattentive. Then we asked for our tacos to be on hard shells and they were literally store bought old El Paso taco shells, could have gotten the exact same tacos at Taco Bell. 4 tacos for $27.00 was hardly worth it. Then when we went to find a seat, all of the booths had a "reserved" sign on them but the place was empty beside a couple of guys at the bar. Decent food and aesthetically pleasing but bad concept on ordering/assistance You get seated by a host who then explains to you how to order. After that you have to really figure it out. There is a food order line and a separate bar. You have to order the food and they hold your card. Then if you want alcohol, you go order at the bar. And when everything is ready, you have to get up and get it. It's very confusing even though I get it. They need to simplify the process Food was ok/good. Nachos, corn, and asada were all a little better than good. Pastor was dry. Barely any meat in my mulita.
