Now half the menu has disappeared including all my favorite tacos (cochinita pibil and mushroom to name a few) The focus on burritos instead is bizarre, let alone the "hold the tortilla concept". Not sure what happened to this place but it's really gone down hill. Went last week for the first time since they reopened and was not impressed with the menu options or quality of food. Really bothers me to write this review because the owners who I've met are great people but honesty is the best policy. My group of 6 ordered a variety of tacos. No one enjoyed their selection and we all quickly recognized how different the food tastes from before. If you're going to remove half of the menu for the "economy", atleast have a few GREAT tasting options left...food came out dry, not fresh, lukewarm, and just....mediocre. A noticeable difference from before. I gave 2 stars because the bartender was cool and the drinks were good. My takeaway: great location, free parking across the street, cute and artsy place but the food is not it!! I love supporting small business, especially since there aren't many places in the valley to get unique tacos but THEY TOOK THEM ALL OFF THE MENU and left the most basic, random combinations of tacos. lol so unfortunately, I likely won't be back...mayyyyybe if I'm invited for drinks . Really disappointed following the grand re-opening. The tortillas are thick and crack easily, leaving you holding a pile of food in your hand. The tacos themselves were greasy and heavy. The fish was flavorless. I was disappointed they were out of the potato tacos; however, upon reading the reviews, and seeing that they are actually just french fries, I'm relieved we didn't get any. The margaritas left a lot to be desired. They tasted watered down and like pre-made mix. The line of giant TVs along with the white floodlight just wasn't our vibe. Not the cozy atmosphere we've come to know and love. I can't for the life of me understand why they've made so many changes, all seem to be for the worse. When we spoke to the staff about early changes months ago, they said the owners were aware and simply did not care. We have loved and frequented roadside taco for many years prior to this. Each menu change has brought fewer options and poorer quality food. If you had asked me a year + ago, I would have said this place has the best fish tacos and margaritas in town. A friend recommended that we eat here before we boarded a shuttle to see Lena Lovich/DEVO/The B-52s. It's a couple of blocks away from the Ventura Lot for the Hollywood Bowl shuttle, a quick 5-minute walk up the street. (By the way, the signs outside say "Roadside TACOS," not "burritos.") Good food. My friend got a 1-taco special with a chicken birria taco, chased by a glass of Modelo. He gave it an 8/10. I had a chicken birria taco and an al pastor taco, chased by a cup of horchata. I also give mine an 8/10. (The birria needed something--more flavor maybe?--to push it to a 9 or 10.) We sat outside in the patio area, protected by a wall of succulents and a mural of Tupac Shakur. I used to come here with my husband (locals) and enjoy a beautiful sunny patio dining experience with delicious food variety and flavorful drinks to choose from. Now - it's a dark place with a bunch of automated kiosks with no skillful bartenders or cooking staff. I used to be able to see and smell my tacos being made. Now they just arrive to your table cold. My tacos had French fries in them. Perhaps ask if we prefer them on the side? Or maybe add to only one kind of taco, not all? The salsa bar? A setup of plastic condiment bottles that get clogged after use. The margaritas? Tasteless and watered down. No variety like before. Behind the bar you can see the premade margarita mix. You don't even hear the bartender shaking them anymore. :( This is a tourist trap - they attract tourists from Universal, the staff told me. Perhaps drive a bit down the road (2mins) to Residuals Tavern for a better drink selection if you're looking for a good drink (drinks only). Seriously, delicious tacos. They serve a solid portion of food too - not skimpy with the meat. Their best taco is the Pastor (chef's kiss) and it includes pineapples. The only downside is their parking. There is a designated lot across the street that requires you to walk to the light and cross the street. Other than that, this is a good taco spot. The tacos were good, but if I go back, I would definitely get able because the rice and beans were the star of the show to me. The tacos went from juicy to dry AF, they come with soggy grilled onions now, the food came out cold, they require you to buy a combo meal now with rice and beans. Are they still open? Drove by at 7pm on a Thursday and doors are closed. No one answers the phone. Like many other reviewers I loved this place since 2021. Now they have the "$15 deal" which only includes basic or substandard tacos if you want to get anything tasty it's an extra $3 to $5 so it's not actually a deal. No more kids meals. No more elote. They got rid of all their different drinks and now they just have one premixed frozen margarita. Went to the grand reopening!! Let's just say... I'm pretty disappointed! The menu items changed (would expect it too) but I wasn't expecting for food came out more cold than warm out by the time it got to our table! The potato tacos werewe're actually French fries tacos (Should rename the tacos to that ). We had the happy hour margaritas, they were okay, they used to be better . This taco spot is so good and I love the full bar here! I stopped by for lunch and so glad I did! We ordered a bunch of food and it tasted so fresh and clean! Before I get into the food though, the staff was so nice and really did a great job. One of the tacos I ordered, I didn't like, and they replaced it with another item no questions asked. Stuff like that really stands out. I ordered the carne asada tacos, al pastor tacos, chicken birria tacos, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, chip and guacamole, and corn. And don't forget their horchata! This place has a lot of charm and warm inviting vibes. Love the decor and cleanliness of the bathrooms The food counter staff were really nice and friendly. Helpful with questions about the menu. The only bummer service wise was the slightly rude blonde guy making the drinks. It took forever for our margaritas to come out, like an extended amount of time. It seems he was arguing with another employee or something. When the drinks finally came out, there were very delicious and perfectly balanced so there's that. Food wise, it was definitely hit and miss. Our group ordered a bunch of tacos and we all shared. The number one thing I always check for at Mexican. Restaurants is to make sure that the rice and beans are actually delicious. A lot of restaurants absolutely fail in this simple category. But they were both very good here. Relieved. The chicken birria was a fail. It just doesn't work. The flavors didn't jive with the chicken and the texture was underwhelming. Even the consommé was flat. The carnitas and al pastor were both delicious and flavorful. Not the most authentic, but definitely good. The carne asada and fish tacos were good too, nothing mind blowing, just good. The coconut shrimp tacos was the one I was really looking forward too the most. It just didn't work unfortunately. Although the texture of the shrimp was perfectly crispy, the flavors just don't mesh together at all. It is way too sweet almost like a dessert lol. The sweet slaw adds more sweetness to the already sweet shrimp, and the aïoli just taste like sweet mayonnaise also, making the taco taste extra heavy. The Fresno chilies were good but had the overall taco bit more balanced with spiciness and not had so much sugar it might've worked. My favorite was the Roadside taco. First note you have to order at the register but get drinks at the other bar. Kind of annoying but whatever. We started off with their corn and their queso dip. Both were our favorite items we had! Definitely will get those again next time. The tacos is where it kind of fell short. Their quesadilla one was good, their chorizo one was okay and their chicken was okay. We break for tacos!! As two taco and margarita loving people we found our new favorite. Roadside Taco delivered with everything we were hoping for. We arrived to easy parking out front, but can see it can become difficult during peak hours. Metered street parking or lot parking across the street are the only two options available. We were greeted by two very fun, friendly and welcoming people who explained everything we needed to know. We started off with a few margaritas and then added a few tacos, tasty street corn and a churro. The margaritas were fantastic, only 7.00 for the margarita Monday special and the tacos were delicious! The tacos were stuffed with chicken and not skimpy by any means. Outdoor seating was very inviting and music was playing in the background, not loud at all and easy to hear one another speak without shouting. Indoors is nice with a bar to sit at and the overall energy is great. It's a pretty simple place, you order and seat yourself, water station available for self service and tasty popsicles are available. Roadside Taco is very family friendly, but can see it become very busy in the evening or weekends. Never going back. This was a terrible rebrand and reopening. They eviscerated the menu, removed favorites and variety to make way for three easy $15 choices of 3 mediocre tacos, a burrito or a bowl. Items used to be prepared with care and the entire operation had a homey mom and pop feel. Now it feels like they've been taken over by a lame fast food empire: cheap branded plastic cups for the margaritas, an assembly line that gets food out quickly in boxes with a logo but it's all nearly inedible. The streamlining of selections makes it all seem lazy. My taco shells weren't even warmed and prepped so they fell apart when picking them up. No more pibil, no more mushrooms, no more street corn, NO MORE CHURROS. Food is flavorless, margs tasted like a mix and now there are giant TV's to boot. I brought family visiting from out of town, excited to share this place I love with them and was embarrassed by the experience. Stay away from the new Roadside Taco. (Oh, the servers are still lovely, polite and put on brave faces trying to explain all the horrible changes) read more

I've eaten here several times since they opened. The food has always been really good. The corn, the mushroom taco -- even their quesadillas. Went in last night and immediately felt like it's a restaurant on its last legs. Parking is somehow more terrible. Their ordering system was always weird, but now they're cutting corners on staffing (no hostess, no visible food order person, two very inexperienced bartenders). There were dirty trays sitting on the bar and the bartenders were doing nothing. Their menu changed to these weird combos. And their bathrooms reeked, so their janitorial is probably out the window, too. Maybe they're locked into the lease and trying to minimize the damage. Whatever it is, stay away. I adore this little place! My family came here on a trip and this place was right next to our hotel. Both my brothers have special needs and my little brother in particular needs a lot of support, so dining during vacation is always something that can be tricky. Roadside was SO accessible, accepting, and understanding of all our needs, questions, and practice with new foods. We loved that the covered patio had so much space and gave our family a safe place to be a little louder without disturbing other guests.
