A friend recommended that we eat here before we boarded a shuttle to see Lena Lovich/DEVO/The B-52s. It's a couple of blocks away from the Ventura Lot for the Hollywood Bowl shuttle, a quick 5-minute walk up the street. (By the way, the signs outside say "Roadside TACOS," not "burritos.") Good food. My friend got a 1-taco special with a chicken birria taco, chased by a glass of Modelo. He gave it an 8/10. I had a chicken birria taco and an al pastor taco, chased by a cup of horchata. I also give mine an 8/10. (The birria needed something--more flavor maybe?--to push it to a 9 or 10.) We sat outside in the patio area, protected by a wall of succulents and a mural of Tupac Shakur. The two restrooms are clean and non-gender. We bussed our own table. We recommend.

I'm back again! Same wonderful experience and I brought a buddy with me who had never tried Roadside before. He took his first bite and closed his eyes and raised his hand and shook them in the air like a child eating their first bite of candy. It was actually funny to witness. I WILL be returning!! See you soon. Enjoy! @jshoeats #jsho

Seriously, delicious tacos. They serve a solid portion of food too - not skimpy with the meat. Their best taco is the Pastor (chef's kiss) and it includes pineapples. The only downside is their parking. There is a designated lot across the street that requires you to walk to the light and cross the street. Other than that, this is a good taco spot. Highly recommend!

Cali-mex style tacos the were solid. I like the bar and ambience of the outdoor area. To order you can use an iPad or order at the counter. The tacos were good, but if I go back, I would definitely get able because the rice and beans were the star of the show to me. The consomè for the birria needed a little bit more umph to it but overall it was a good spot to try out.

Sooooooo good! I was walking by planning to get food nearby, but stopped in here instead. I got mushroom tacos and they were amazing. It was fairly busy but I was able to get a table and enjoy my meal. The food came out pretty quickly and I definitely will have to stop by again next time I'm in the area!

So this is LA if you are gonna open up a taco joint you better be good. That means not screwing with perfection.. Done reinvent flavors. The chicken birreira with consume was not my cup of tea. They completely missed the joy in meat and cheese with some salsa on it. The pastor tacos were good tasty in need of some heat. The rice missed the mark. Service with a smile was fast. The lunch combo is a good deal I've been to many trucks with a far superior product.

SERVICE: Co-workers brought me for the first time, they're regulars. Loved the staff - so super cool, lovely ambience, and free parking across the street which is painfully hard in LA. Great place for photos and good laughs. Outdoor seating but there too are seats inside if needing coverage. FOOD: My food was fine and I understand it's a great place for tacos. I ordered the coconut shrimp which I didn't realize was a taco (busy running my mouth). however it taste fine. It needed something, a flavored sauce maybe. I tried the street corn but dislike sour cream so I pushed it aside. My friends loved theirs which was good. We too shared nachos that had cheese spread which is a dislike for me. I just want actual cheese. I still ate them. Their drinks also looked delicious! WELL: It being close to my job and the 101 ramp lol I'd return! I'll try the cord again but without sc. Great spot.

This taco spot is so good and I love the full bar here! I stopped by for lunch and so glad I did! We ordered a bunch of food and it tasted so fresh and clean! Before I get into the food though, the staff was so nice and really did a great job. One of the tacos I ordered, I didn't like, and they replaced it with another item no questions asked. Stuff like that really stands out. I ordered the carne asada tacos, al pastor tacos, chicken birria tacos, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, chip and guacamole, and corn. And don't forget their horchata! Wow. The best taco there was al pastor and the chicken birria. Was so good and I'm definitely coming back for those. The place is huge and has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. This seems like a fun place to be at night! Parking on the street and there is a parking lot across the street

If you in town and looking to eat tacos or burritos stop at Roadside Tacos!!! Environment is super welcoming and staff are great and the food FIRE!!! Definitely coming back..

End of the day, a $68 bill pre-tip for a less than genrous plate of ($16??) guac and 4 very small tacos with no rice or beans included and one draft Modelo is just unacceptable. The tacos were adequate, but unspectacular. 'Filet mignon' tacos were a single unchopped hunk of meat well flavored but so bare and small for 2x $22. The guac was too refrigerated, with not fully ripened avocado that resulted in an overly sweet taste and slightly firm texture that was unpleasant. Chips were also just not very good, and also not as far as I could tell complimentary. Service gets high marks for speed and efficiency, but felt super impersonal. Example, a server asked us how everything was while we were clearly just sitting there, not having tasted any of it waiting for some limes to arrive at the table. Just asked the question without surveying at all, and it was very performative and not genuine. Which is fine. I'm not at all mad at the servers, tough job but worth noting when noting the tip % options on the POS. End of the day I don't know if I'll be back or not. Everybody has an off day. But just about every aspect was less than stellar(draft beer was excellent) especially compared to three previous excellent visits. It's getting harder to justify going out for dinner, and at these prices, I would hope they could do a little better.

Let me admit something annoying (perhaps even snotty?) about myself: I try to go against the grain…read morein most things. I prefer things that are underground, independent and not mainstream. When EVERYONE loves something; I tend to scoff. I am this way with most forms of art, places and even food. I simply question trends and prefer to rely on my own opinion. So, when fellow Yelper and dining partner Michael B. suggested we try North Hollywood's Birrieria Familia Castro (only minutes from my apartment!) which received the coveted #1 position on Yelp's Top 100 Taco Spots list - I was hesitant. I wanted to hate it. But there is no way to hate Birrieria Familia Castro because they deserve their title. Let's explore... Birrieria Familia Castro is located near the Oxnard/Vineland intersection close to the Noho Arts District in a teeny tiny strip plaza next to a smoke shop across the street from a tire shop. Being the literal definition of 'hole in the wall'; don't let this environment detour you from dining at Birrieria Familia Castro because it is these hidden gems that are often the best (and obviously in this case). Birrieria Familia Castro is a family-owned eatery that is the baby of Anthony Castro and his parents opening the venture in 2022 and focusing on homemade recipes passed-down generations of their family tree focusing on layers of flavor and hours of marinading and simmering. Anthony begins his day with a prayer and takes nothing for granted with each patron who walks in the door. Those who Anthony welcomes will find a tiny dining space in terms of square footage and super-hot in temperature (their AC isn't the most consistent so they need to open the door as the day-long cooking heats the space); but it is clean and cozy enough. The menu at Birrieria Familia Castro is rather simple focusing on what they are good at: breakfast, tacos, various birrias (quesatacos, vampiros, mulitas, dorados) and some a la carte plates. I personally enjoyed the smaller menu as I tend to get overwhelmed with too many choices. For my dinner, I chose two Quesatacos (crispy corn tortillas filled with meat, mozzarella, onions and cilantro - $5.25 each choosing one birria and one asada) while my dining partner chose two Birria Vampiros (toasted corn tortilla with meat in between burned cheese on top, onion and cilantro served with beans and rice - $13. 49) plus, Birrieria Familia Castro's famous birria consommé. Our dishes arrived rather quickly and were served on gorgeous, culturally-authentic clay plates that I thought were a lovely touch. My desire to go against the popular fan-favorites is out the door because Birrieria Familia Castro is sooooooo goooodddd! My quesatacos were fantastic: perfect texture tortillas made by spreading the consommé fat on the tacos because throwing them on a hot griddle with tender, amazingly-flavored long-simmered meat. Even the little picked onions were marvelous. The birria consommé was to die for: an orchestra of harmonious flavor with chunks of meat swimming in the broth: I could consume a bucket of this! Yelper Michael B.'s Birria Vampiros were, by his account, delicious and "a win": hard shell with burned cheese that was a perfect combination with the pickled onions and tableside salsas and birria consommé. Micheal even mixed some of the consommé with the rice and beans which was "an extra treat". If the amazing food wasn't enough; we had a pleasant chat with the main man Anthony, himself. Anthony is hyper-focused on not only offering delicious food; but genuinely caring about his customers and how he can improve. Anthony reads all Yelp reviews to see any areas that need finessing and cares about small details of his business: remember those clay plates I am obsessed with? Anthony curates those from an artist in Mexico and he even orders plates with dividers for those who don't like ingredients touching on their plate. It is this concern and attention to detail that helped land Birrieria Familia Castro as Yelp's #1 in the nation. Although limited in hours (closed Mondays, some days closing as early as 5pm due to overhead costs and competition); Birrieria Familia Castro is highly recommended. Top-tier food, customer service and priced well - truly deserving. Don't be stubborn like me and find out why Birrieria Familia Castro is #1

I arrived earlier this time and was lucky enough to find a table. The restaurant is very small, with a few tables inside and one table outside. The restaurant itself is casual and cozy, with more of a small taqueria-type feel rather than an upscale restaurant. Parking can be tricky to find, as this restaurant doesn't have a dedicated parking area. The only parking available is street parking, which can be difficult to find. I ordered the quesabirria taco combo, which included quesabirria tacos, a side of rice, and a side of beans. The quesabirria tacos were crispy on the outside, with melted cheese and tender birria on the inside. I really liked that the meat was high quality. It had little to no gristle. The meat could have used a little more salt, but it was still pretty good. The rice and beans were also tasty. If you want an added kick, you can ask for their extra spicy salsa, which is a chili oil-based salsa. Their regular red salsa already pairs very well with the birria, though. The service was flawless. My server was very attentive and accommodating. She was very helpful and constantly checked in to make sure everything was okay. Overall, I had a great experience. From the tender birria to the excellent service, this is definitely a restaurant that I'll be visiting again. Ratings: Quesabirria tacos - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 4/5

Grace and Claudia set the tone from the moment I arrived. They were upbeat, personable, and genuinely engaging. What stood out was how naturally they connected with customers. There was no robotic "customer service" routine. They talked to people like human beings, paid attention, smiled, joked, and created an atmosphere that felt relaxed and welcoming. You can tell they have built real rapport with many of the customers who come through the door. I also want to recognize the people whose work may happen more behind the scenes. Juan Carlos and Solomon, the cooks, deserve a huge amount of credit. A restaurant can have wonderful front-of-house service, but none of that works without a strong kitchen. These two are part of the team making everything happen, and their work absolutely deserves to be acknowledged. The kitchen is demanding, fast-paced work, and having people back there who consistently keep things moving is essential. And then there is Javier, the busser, who is another important part of the experience. Bussers are sometimes overlooked, but they shouldn't be. Javier was attentive and constantly helping keep things clean, organized, and ready for customers. That kind of effort makes a noticeable difference in how a restaurant feels. What impressed me most was the teamwork. Grace, Claudia, Juan Carlos, Solomon, and Javier all have different responsibilities, but together they create the experience customers actually remember. You could see that this was not simply a group of employees performing separate jobs. There was a rhythm to the place and a sense that everyone was contributing. Restaurants are ultimately about people. You can have a great menu and a great location, but the staff determines whether customers feel like coming back. This team makes you want to come back. Thank you, Grace, Claudia, Juan Carlos, Solomon, and Javier. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Ordered the mild salsa and it tasted like they added water to the pico de gallo salsa they have. Ordered the chicken mucho mas burrito. With the markup it was $19. There were only 3-4 small chewy pieces of chicken. The chicken was chewy like it was microwaved and they put about 1.5 cups of beans to compensate. Ordered carnitas mucho mas burrito. We got six tacos between the asada and al pastor, plus a queso burrito with asada. Everything was really good. My fiancée noticed that they were making the tortillas by hand right there, which was a nice touch and definitely made a difference. I especially liked the al pastor, and the queso burrito was really good too and pretty filling. I also liked that they actually have a big menu with the prices clearly posted. Not every taco stand makes the pricing that easy to see. The tacos were $3.25 each and the queso burrito was $13.50. Our total was $36.22 after tax. I will say the tacos are a little pricier than what we're personally used to. At some of the taco stands we normally go to, we're used to paying around $2 to $3 per taco, so $3.25 stood out a little. That said, the food was good enough that I didn't feel disappointed with what we paid. The only other small thing was the salsa. They ask if you want everything on the tacos and put the salsa on for you, while we're more used to taco stands giving you salsa on the side at the end. I'm sure you can ask for some separately, but since we were taking everything home and didn't ask, I just used some salsa we already had. Not really a complaint, just something I'd remember next time. Overall, we really liked the food and would come back. Since we're still trying different taco stands around the area, we'll probably keep exploring too, but Angel's was a good first stop.
