Well another update on Roast Duck Kitchen I was in the area so decided to pick up 1lbs char Siu and 1lbs of roast pork. What can I say their Roast Pork is lean and very crispy skin. The char Siu is also lean and very flavorful . The prices on their board is not updated so just use it as a guideline because when I got my total it was way more than $18.50 per pound. My bill was over $44 dollars so I think the price is about $21 per pound wow! Maybe it's time to head into Chinatown lol. Well everyplace prices going up so what can I say . I went on a Sunday with low volume of customers coming and going. The roast duck did not look good to me, nor was the sad display of cha siu. I opted for 1/2 lb of roast pork and was elated with my choice. Very crispy skin and juicy meat. I would definitely come back for the roast pork again and avoid the other choices. Where does one get a roast duck in the Aiea neighborhood??? You can get your roast duck fix at this place called - "Roast Duck Kitchen" at the Aiea Shopping Center. With a name like that, I take it that I guess "Roast Duck Kitchen" specializes in roast duck, but I also found out that this business also sells other items like - Roast Pork, Char Siu, Ginger Chicken, Gau Gee, Garlic Chicken, Oyster Sauce Chicken & of course some "plate lunch specials to go", if ya wanna grab a quick meal. Not bad, for a little hole-in-the-wall kitchen! The shop is pretty small, so it's basically a grab & go kinda joint. There is absolutely no seating here. Last weekend, I was doing some work at a local credit union downstairs of the Aiea Shopping Center, and upon finishing up the job, I decided to go upstairs to the 2nd floor to see if I could score a roast duck from Roast Duck Kitchen. The simplest name for this place and the best tasting roast duck my family and I have had so far! We used to get our roast duck from only one specific place but that place doesn't make it on certain days of the week so when Roast Duck Kitchen was recommended to us, we thought "WHY NOT!" We were honestly a little hesitant when we saw the price of 1 whole duck ($37) BUT given that everything has risen in price and after tasting and eating the entire thing, we have absolutely NO regrets and definitely NO hesitations for next time! We did get to place an order for our whole duck two days before (we didn't know they were temporarily closed at the time) but there were at least 4-6 whole ducks still in the heater (is that what it's called?) and we picked up around 12pm. There was a small line, about 6-7 people in front of us, but that line went faster than any fast food restaurant at rush hour lol just be a little patient when you reach the door, they will call you in, you can place your order, then they'll ask you to wait outside and listen for your name or order to be called out, that is when you'll pay. First time here this past Sunday. Very yummy. So my friend knows I'm a fat fiend (uhhh I know what you're thinking but, I'm not a fiend "that's" fat but a fiend "FOR" fat) so she recommended I go here. One thing I absolutely love is crispy pork belly and roast duck and both of these from Roast Duck Kitchen were phenomenal and with some wonderful fatty goodness. The pork was super SUPER juicy with a nicely crisp skin. Before pandemic life, I used to get pork belly from chinatown once in awhile but I will say this beats all the ones I've had from chinatown before. With the roast duck, I've only gotten that in chinese restaurants before but the duck at RDK is kind of mind blowing, it's so damn flavorful and juicy. I've never had roast duck this good before, anywhere. My only nit-pick is that the prices are pretty high. The pork is $15/lb and a half duck is $14.50. I ordered one pound of pork and a half duck which came out to $31 after tax. The tray of duck came with 2 crispy gau gee which was nice, they were very good. I'd say the food, absolutely 5 stars but the prices would be 4 stars so it would be 4.5 stars for me, but I have no problem rounding up to 5 because it's so damn good. One thing I will add is that my friend warned me they sell out of things quickly so going early is a must if you want to be sure to get specific things. I definitely wanted the pork so I decided to get there before they opened at 9. I got there at 830 and I was happy to see they were already open, no problem at all with anything being sold out. :) They have other things like char siu, and roast chickens so I'll have to try those too. I came here for the first time with my wife the other day, and we will be back again. The food is good, and the pricing is reasonable. The small restaurant is located on the second floor of the Aiea Shopping Plaza, behind Koa Pancake House, next to the Aiea Print Shop. It is a take-out-only restaurant; however, there are tables outside by Koa Pancake House open for anyone. When writing this review, the single-choice plate is $17, which comes with your choice of meat, white rice, cabbage, and one crispy gau gee. If you want to add a second choice or substitute your white rice for fried rice or cake noodles, it's only $1 for each additional choice or substitution. During this visit, I ordered the Roast Duck and Roast Pork with Cake Noodle, which comes with a sauce for the cake noodle and hot mustard with shoyu. Needless to say, the name of their shop says it all - Roast Duck Kitchen. The roast Duck here is amazingly tasty and moist. We buy our Roast Duck here exclusively. Now, having said that, the gaugee here is "To DIE For". Who'd of thought that a placed named after Duck had such wonderfully tasty, crisp and generously stuffed gaugee? It's so tasty and crispy I wonder if they add duck fat to their deep fryer oil. Oh my stars! They have THE best gaugee I've tasted on island, AND it stays crisp after it cools down. Holy moly yumminess! We've also had the roast pork here and shades of Nam Fong! It's onolicious! We did a comparison of places that served roast pork and I believe Asian Mix won out. This roast pork takes first place. The takeaway? Roast Duck Kitchen serves the best roast duck, gaugee, AND roast pork! The char siu is good too, but for flavor, I'd choose Asian Mix as first place, this is a close second, though for char siu. Go to Aiea to try this place out. Been hearing about this place so had to come try it. They are on the second level of Aiea Shopping Center, the same level as Mc Donalds and behind Koa Pancake House. With social distancing, they take one person at a time to order, then you wait outside until you are called. You pay when you pick up your order. I tried half a roast duck, half a cold ginger chicken, half a pound of roast port and half a pound of char siu. Went home and made rice, voila, I had lunch ready. Duck was decent, on the skinner side. Wish it had some sauce like some places give you as it could have used a little more flavor and moisture. Good flavor on the ginger onion sauce for the chicken. They gave two containers for half a chicken which was enough. Char siu, I tend to like a little more fatty meat as it gives more flavor and is less dry. This meat was leaner. Roast pork was perfect. Very crispy skin and good meat to fat ratio giving it good flavor and tender juicy pieces. Order came with two crispy gau chee. Those was okay, a little dry. Overall, based on their location, good option for those who live in Central or West Oahu, without having to go to Chinatown. Thought I could find good roast pork and noodles because of the excellent reviews. But my experience was so bad and disrespectful I had to review on Yelp. The woman seemed peeved cause I took 20 minutes longer to get there. The roast pork is tasty and tender; however I would have loved more crispiness. The cake noodles were dismal! The worst I've ever had. Very, very HARD! The container of sauce they gave me for the noodles was not enough to cover or soften them. They were brittle, dry, overcooked. Such a disappointment. I called to ask if I could drive down to pick up another container of sauce. You would think I was asking to return the entire order for a refund. She did not care that I couldn't eat the noodles. She yelled at me and said I was late. I asked her again if I could pick up another container of sauce and she bluntly said "NO. We cannot give you more sauce. Next time tell me you want softer noodles!" I am honestly floored by such blatantly bad customer service. I have never tasted bad cake noodles until coming here! Whether by accident or intentionally it seems they preferred to punish me for being late and rather than resolving the issue by simply giving me another half-cup container of sauce they refused to help me. This little takeout spot is a hidden gem serving up some awesome roast pork and roast duck. Although the namesake of this joint is Roast Duck their roast pork is what you write home about. The pork is flavorful and tender and moist. While half my order had soggy rinds, the other half managed to stay crispy. I'm sure if you ask for the pork unchopped the crispiness wouldn't be an issue. Their roast pork is one of the best if not the best I've had in Hawaii (I worked in Hong Kong for years so my standards for roast pork are high). The pork comes with hoisin sauce, but some of the tangy mustard that comes with roast pork in Hong Kong would've made it even better. That being said, their duck is not bad, it fully holds its own with Asian Mix and Sandy's cafe. Their buns were 12 for $15, honestly kind of a lot. Pandemic update special- when you are in lockdown, you pick and choose where you will go when you do any shopping. You bundle what you need to get so you're not running around too many times in a week. So on today's agenda: Longs, Times and ROAST DUCK KITCHEN. They are still open seven days a week and they still are offering their great roasted meats. Haven't been there in awhile so coming back was long overdue. The objective: bring home roast pork and char siu. Both are roasted nicely, the roast pork with tender meat and crispy skin, the char siu tender and a nice hint of sweetness. We have always liked their meats so when the wife brought them up last night, I decided to hoof it down there in the morning. No line, pleasant and quick service. Same great meats, and they make plate lunches too. If you are coming in the afternoon I would strongly recommend you put in your order that morning, or days earlier if you are getting it for a special event (like when the playoffs, any kine playoffs come back) You guys living in Aiea/Pearl City are truly fortunate. Found upstairs at the shopping center, RDK looks like a little hole in the wall. As you go up the escalator you can smell the delicious smell of crispy meats. Auntie and uncle speak Cantonese, reminds me of getting roasted meats back home. I'd heard of early lines but with COVID still hovering around, I got in and out this morning.
