When I moved four years ago I used North American Van Lines and it was wonderful. So, when it was time to move again, I looked for their affiliate in my area of LA, that was Rob and Messer. From the time I first reached out, they were incredible. Fabian came to give me the estimate, which seemed very fair. I got boxes, wrapping paper and tape from them? On moving day, Matthew, Edgar, Manny and Angel were so fantastic and professional from start to finish. They really cared about my furniture and belongings and took such great care. They worked so hard all day! Matthew was the driver and he checked in along the way (cross country). When he arrived at my new destination I felt like an old friend was there. Another great team, Nathan and Ryan, showed up to help on the receiving end. They, too, were so professional and caring with my belongings. Moving can be stressful. I booked this company for an interstate move. I have lukewarm feelings about it. I would rate the estimator, the coordinator, and the movers separately. First, the reason I chose them was because they are a large carrier agency: they use their own trucks and employees, they are not brokers, and that was important to me. The second reason I chose them was that Fabian physically came to my home to do his estimate. Estimators never come to homes anymore, they just look at everything on a screen and I think that puts more pressure on the customer to remember to show them things. I got so many quotes and Fabian was the only person who came in person. Not only that, he didn't feel overly pushy with the sell. I experienced other companies putting down their competitors, or pushing really hard for you to book. He didn't do that and I appreciated it. His pricing was not the highest or the lowest that I received. During the booking process, I would say Fabian was amazing. Unfortunately, he kind of disappeared at the end. I know it's onto the next in sales and all that, but it's a lot of money to spend and then have your calls sent to voicemail without a response. As for the coordinator's office or the dispatcher, terrible. When you book a move with them, you are obligated to give a 3-day window for loading, you don't just get to pick the exact date. I was under the impression that I would be told multiple weeks in advance which of the three days they would be loading. However, when I followed up, I was told that they would decide 2-3 days in advance. I don't know how that's possible because people need to request time off of work for moves. When I reached out to Fabian, he was able to get me a date much sooner, but it shouldn't have been like that in the first place. They also wanted to deliver before the delivery window started when it wasn't possible for me to be there. Again, this was corrected when I reached out to Fabian, but I don't know how it was so poorly coordinated when I booked the move 3+ months in advance. Based on the coordinator alone, I would never book through this agency again. And the reason is strictly the coordinator. I would call Fabian again even though he disappeared, and I would hire that driver again, but I would never want to deal with this coordinator again. If it's company policy to do things this way, that's unfortunate. If it's a choice of the coordinator, I don't understand why it's acceptable to leave customers hanging for so long. The driver, Anthony, was lovely. He was polite and organized. One of the guys working in his crew was curiously rough with the boxes that I had labeled fragile with red stickers on five sides of each box. I don't know why he did that. But I did like Anthony who was the lead. Anthony was also the driver on delivery at my destination and everything went smoothly. I would trust him with my move again. The billing office is good. I only had a small interaction with Victoria, but I have no complaints. All in all, I think this company is okay. I wish they communicated proactively instead of reactively because moving is always so stressful, and when it's an interstate move, it's even worse, and the last thing you want is to be caught off guard or left wondering. I didn't appreciate that I had to ask for things rather than just being told them from the jump. After my items were loaded, I didn't get the inventory sheet for any of the paperwork that I was supposed to receive right away. It wasn't until over 24 hours later that I got a copy of the documents I had signed electronically, and the only reason I got them was because I left them voicemails and text messages. Those messages never got a response, I just had the paperwork emailed to me without any acknowledgment that it was late. They delivered my items fast. I know people who have waited for their deliveries for several weeks. Not this company. I had to ask them to slow down to give me time to make it to my destination. For a lot of people, I can see that being a huge plus and I would be remiss not to mention it. You will probably receive your delivery very quickly with them. So while I wouldn't hire them again based on the coordinator, I do think they are generally fine as far as movers go. Pricing for SoCal to Utah in June was $4600. This included my shuttle at origin ($700) and offload into self storage at destination ($70), and of course the labor before tips, and the transportation. read more

I used Robb and Messer/North American Moving to move my family across country. For anyone looking for movers, there is a ton of scams out there. They quote you cheap and sell to a third party. This company doesn't do that, everything was seamless up front. Fabian came and actually looked at all the stuff we were moving (avoid anyone who quotes you over the phone!) he provided a solid price that wasn't going to change! Robb & Messer Moving and Storage needs to have better customer service and follow up with the customer. Several of my valuables were damaged and it seams that no one at the company cares about you as a customer. Also, the company delivered my stuff to the incorrect location at the storage company and wouldn't deliver it back to me at my apartment so I had to pick my items up. I am having to pay $45 an hour and was told it took 3 hours to take my items down from the pallet. Poor customer service to say the least! SCAM ARTISTS. The first red flag was the day of the move our sales guy Fabian promised to be present the day of our move to personally pack an antique furniture piece. The morning of the move he claimed he had a flat tire...what a coincidence. The second red flag was the driver/mover named Marcos, who was responsible for tagging our stuff for inventory, was on his cell most of the time. My move was for cross country and was being delivered into storage. I was only told upfront that I had 9 months to file claims. Little did I know they would be so careless and cause damage to my stuff while making it impossible for me to know what all the potential damages were or fill out the right forms, so I could file a claim. At the storage unit the driver was rushing and barely gave me time to inspect for damages. I pointed out that someone had broken off and glued back the leg on my antique coffee table and he denied any knowledge of it. I am guessing it happened after they were in the truck. I also pointed out other damaged antique pieces and he had no explanation. The damages were extremely odd, like all 4 sides of an antique's round foot cracked cleanly off and the back of a dining chair's legs cleanly sliced off near the bottoms. And the finishes were rubbed off on a couple wooden antiques. They also disassembled many pieces of my furniture and I had no idea until it arrived at the storage unit. They only did this so they could cram my stuff into a smaller space then what I paid for....the driver inadvertently admitted that my stuff was in a 5000 sq ft space in the moving truck, even though I paid for 8500 sq. ft. This move was super expensive, yet I didn't get what I paid for. No wonder why my stuff got damaged because it was crammed in so tight. He failed to tell me I needed to put any damages on his form and have everything FULLY inspected at delivery to the storage unit otherwise I could not make a claim later. But he made it impossible to fully inspect many things because he claimed he could not reassemble my furniture and other items due to being in storage. I suspect he knew it would get him in trouble if I reported damages. I assumed because it was in storage I could still file claims. How else would furniture get cracked and finishes get rubbed off if it's sitting in storage? AND he pulled up forms on his cracked phone screen outside for me to sign at the end of the day that I could not read or he just scrolled to where I had to sign. One of the forms was basically stating all of this, so he knew what he was doing all along. He was counting on me not seeing this form on his phone, otherwise I would have had him go back inside and reassemble everything and even take out my 2 OLED tvs from the boxes to test them in the storage unit. I just found out about this today after having all my claims denied. Now I could have further damages in the future that are unknown and will not be covered. Even if you're not putting your stuff in storage, do you really want movers that are so unethical and careless? Don't be fooled like I was that an agent for a national moving company will be responsible and ethical. read more

I've moved several times locally, across the country, and back and forth between Northern California and Southern California. Robb & Messer was by far the best moving experience I've had! This time, I was moving from Los Angeles to San Francisco and desired a next-day delivery so that my sweet but anxious cat wouldn't feel displaced for too long. Though Robb & Messer initially gave me a delivery timeline of 1-3 days, they were able to make it work and deliver the day after they picked up! From my first phone call with Jim, to the in-home visit with Brenda, I felt very confident that this company would be the best fit for my move. I got several quotes from moving companies, and R&M came in right in the middle with their flat rate. I went with them because of their communication and personal touch, and I'm glad that I did. They are very responsive to emails and phone calls, which is important during the stressful time of a move. On my move day, Eli and Carlos showed up right on schedule. They were friendly, respectful, and FAST! When I moved into my ground floor 2 bedroom apartment in LA, another company took practically the entire day. But Eli and Carlos had me out of my apartment in less than 3 hours. In San Francisco the next morning, it was raining, but these guys had the best attitude and made sure that nothing was left sitting out in the rain. They moved me into a second floor walk-up apartment in less than 3 hours. These guys are superheros, even though they had another move to do later that same day! I packed all of my things myself, so I can't speak to R&M's packing services. One of my floor lamps broke during the move because it wasn't packed into a box, but the movers were extremely apologetic and took pictures so I could make a claim on the damage. R&M reimbursed me for the lamp to my satisfaction, and with a friendly attitude on top of it. Besides the lamp, everything arrived in perfect order, and I have no complaints. I hope that I don't have to move again anytime soon, but when I do, I would hire R&M in a heartbeat. read more

Brenda came out to give my estimate. After looking at all my item in 2 locations she provided an estimate that included item I was unsure whether or not I was taking with a not to exceed amount. I ended up selling or giving away multiple items of furniture including a sofa sleeper, chair sleeper, coffee table, wood entryway bench and TV stand to name a few. Once I received my final bill, it was close to the original amount even though I no longer had several item. I contacted billing and was informed my final weight abd estimated weight were almost the same. I contacted Brenda and her response was I had a lot more boxes. I find this difficult to believe since she is the one who is the expert and would know the amount of boxes needed or weight of those items. It seems deceptive to me and I question her ability to provide estimates. I emailed my concerns with no response. I pay this deceptive amount to obtain my items. I received multiple damaged items. For example , broke lamp shade, broken swiffer, broken door slats on console, and a chunk of wood from a furniture dog crate. Then upon assembly of furniture, 2 desks were not tighten properly and the office chair was assembled backwards. The pros: quick to come and give an onsite quote for moving. Easy to schedule and communicate with the moving coordinator. The cons: they are disorganized, unprofessional and tried to scam us. They DRASTICALLY underbid the moving quote even though Brenda came and took at least 50 photos with her iPad. On moving day a tiny truck showed up with only two movers. They sat around for two hours NOT working because I had to negotiate with Brenda and her subcontractors to get a second truck and more mover help. Then they wanted to count every single item in my home to recalculate the cost of the move, attempting to squeeze an extra three thousand out of us. In the end the move required at least an extra 8 hours, another truck and another thousand dollars to get it done. Do yourself a favor and find a company that is more organized and more professional. read more

I had a major move from Orange County, CA to Chattanooga, TN area. As the North American Van Lines local agent, I was referred to Robb & Messer, and things went so well I still can't believe it. To begin, of all the moving companies I contacted, only Allied and North American Van Lines sent actual people to my house to make an estimate -- not surprising because they are sister companies. Their truck diver, Luis, oversaw the move at both ends; he brought in teams that were careful, personable and hardworking. Not only did loading and unloading happen quickly, but I was kept updated with calls and texts consistently during the process. After checking that it would work for me, Luis delivered at the new location at day earlier than originally anticipated -- which was great. I have ZERO complaints and recommend North American Van Lines/Robb & Messer highly based on my experience. Also, my sense is that Allied would have been good, too -- I went with NA because their offer was a little better for me. read more

North American Van Lines Driver/Mover Matt Phillips was phenomenal. Matt helped make the move from SoCal to Florida worry-free. On load day, he orchestrated the crew while taking detailed inventory of my belongings. On delivery day, he showed up promptly at the agreed time. Before unloading, he gave my Mom and me cold bottles of cold water before single-handedly unloading my 40 boxes and furniture all the while projecting a positive, can-do attitude. He worked fast and efficiently. He was also a pleasure to talk to as we repeatedly made trips from the truck to the storage unit while verifying the inventory. A month late on my review but Robb & Messer were the all-star team for our cross country move. Fabian (The GM) came for an in-person quote. took easy inventory of our house, even worked with me to adjust what was in the quote to make sure the price was accurate and everything we needed was accounted for. Fabian is also the Warehouse manager so whatever he says he can do for you, he gets it done! Was able to secure a truck that lined up with our departure date perfectly (it literally arrived the day my wife and kids flew in)! Marcos (the driver) and his loading crew (Sebastian, Jesus [the best loader I have ever witnessed], Pedro, and Mauricio) wrapped everything expertly. Nothing damaged or broken, even kitchenware and glass items. Luis (the moving coordinator) kept us informed along the trip, and Marcos came in right on schedule. Sebastian was also there on the unloading, as well as Jiby, and with Marcos they were helpful to get all items in place and make sure everything was intact and accounted for. Jiby even saved the day by figuring out how to reassemble a table that none of us could figure out! Moving across the country is no small thing and this team saved us years of our life in stress. After a hellish experience moving to LA, I was wary of hiring another mover to move us to Texas. I can't tell you how pleased I am with Robb & Messner- they totally changed my perception of what a moving company is and should be. From the moment I asked for a quote on Yelp, their owner called me and walked me through their process for over 30 minutes. I peppered him with questions, hoping to catch them in another sneaky business practice, but he told me to trust him. "We'll see," I thought. Not only are these people incompetent, they lie freely. The driver told me he would not deliver to my address. Later, the company claimed he couldn't complete delivery because he hurt his knee. They moved us with six skilled movers, who were very careful during Covid, and very efficient. The two movers that did the physical moving, Jonathan and Fernando, were fantastic. They were on time, respectful, and fast. I had a bit of a problem with a couple of my neighbors continuously stopping them (while they were carrying heavy furniture) to talk about their own moves they wanted to set up. They spent about 10 to 15 minutes discussing with my neighbor the move my neighbor wanted to set up soon, until I finally cut in and said I'd give him their contact and they can discuss that at a time when I'm not paying them for their time. I think Jonathan and Fernando were in a tough situation and didn't wanna be rude to my neighbors/ potential future business. But when a customer is currently paying for their time, then that time needs to be spent on that customers move. They got the point and the next time someone stopped them to talk about their own future move, jonathon politely asked them to take a picture of the back of his shirt with all the contact information on it. Other than that, the move went brilliantly. I appreciate the hard work of both gentlemen. Can't speak highly enough of them. They had the best attitudes and were a joy to work with. The reason I gave this business 3 out of 5 stars was not because of my experience with Jonathan and Fernando. Id give both of them 5 out of 5! I'm giving this company 3 out of 5 because when it came time to pay, it was $200 higher than it should have been. I called the office to ask about it and the man on the phone was the most disrespectful, unprofessional, condescending, and degrading individual. He should not be allowed to speak to customers as a professional representative. As soon as I brought up my concern, he became quite aggressive and talking to me like I was stupid. I began very polite as I always strive to be, but his attitude was astonishing. After I commented on his unnecessary aggression, he LAUGHED at me! Then continued speaking to me as if I were a child. I did the math multiple times to show him I was being overcharged. He kept changing the numbers I think trying to confuse or manipulate me. I pointed out how he kept changing the numbers and he then got downright hostile. I told him with my 10% cash discount the price, before tip, should again be less than he was charging me. He shouted "GREAT. FINE. PLEASURE DOING BUSINESS WITH YOU." Immature and angry, he hung up on me. Exasperated and in disbelief that a professional adult would behave that way, I paid the gentlemen and apologized to them for the confusion. I only hope that the rude man on the phone treats them well and doesn't try to take their tips from them. After the way he treated me, I worry about how he treats them. If you choose to use this moving company, I recommend getting everything in very detailed writing beforehand, that way they can't try to overcharge you on the day. And don't let that man disrespect you. I was shaken all day after the way he behaved. It was just shocking. read more

I was introduced to Rob and Messer Moving after searching for "reputable moving companies" online and an actual human called me back for more information! She gathered my needs and sent my information to Rob and Messer. I was set up for a zoom call so my apartment could be properly viewed and en estimate could be made reflecting my specific needs/requirements. Brenda called promptly at the decided time and was thorough in her assessment and very fast in sending an estimate. She sent over any and all documents I needed providing their insurance and told me the move comes with wardrobe boxes. (Whomever invented wardrobe boxes is my new favorite person). The moves arrived with a TON of blankets and boxes to keep my belongings safe during the move. They wrapped everything well, moved with efficiency, worked continuously slowing down, and while they were lighting fast they were also very careful and gentle with my things. I moved from a 12th floor unit, 35 miles away to a 4th floor unitand they completed the move faster then my last experience that was 4 blocks away. The initial process started with Fabian coming out to our home and taking an inventory and then followed with a competitive quote and scheduling. We had a week delay with closing escrow and the team was very accommodating (thanks Kory!) to our new dates, and helped figure out a solution that worked really well. The movers came out on time as promised, packed the truck and were done quicker than I expected. The movers that unloaded the truck also showed up on time and were very attentive to where we needed everything placed, and setup. All the furniture was setup perfectly and they had no complaints about the long distance to the garage, or the flight of stairs. I was evicted from my home for not paying my rent. That is a fact! It's also a fact that I had the money to pay the rent but was withholding it till the Rat infestation was taken care of and the black mold addressed. But instead I was evicted. Literally forced by the Sheriff to leave while my fiancé was at work and I was home with our 17 year old daughter. The landlord hired this company to pack our stuff "professionally" and put it in storage. Sounds like real helpers right? they were told by the landlord to "take anything they wanted!" and to disrespect everything else. they stole our Social Security cards. our birth certificates. They stole my fiancé's jewelry. They stole an antique Winchester revolver. Every cordless tool I owned. Which cost me my job. They stole her grandmother's wedding rings. They stole my Ibanez electric guitar. They stole an uncut fire opal weighing 1 pound. that's a 17,000 dollar uncut gem... they took everything my daughter packed, she had her whole room already packed by the way. Dumped everything into bags. And poured her lotion over it.. they broke her wardrobe she just got for her birthday. My fiancé reached into a box of cloths and was stabbed by a knife!!! I put on a shirt and when I could get it off. We had to pull the cactus needles from my side and arms...! My girls are inconsolable. we were already homeless for something we only wanted fixed... but that wasn't any of their business! They are in the business of moving a persons belongings safely. you know what they said about the damage? They were instructed too... like they couldn't think on their.. but then tried to lie about the theft. Thankfully I had a security system. Which they could see in the gate. And they were great till it was "accidently destroyed... why they didnt look around I can only be thankful for cause they missed the 3 other cameras. Big thank you to Scott and Luis for helping me with a quick turnaround move in April from Los Angeles to Chicago! I had to move cross country on short-notice during the middle of April 2020. I spoke with Scott multiple times before confirming with Rob & Messer and he was incredibly gracious taking time to speak with me after business hours when I was available to speak on the phone. The guys showed up on move-out day 15 minutes before the scheduled time window (WOOHOO) and it was quick and easy. They facilitated a transfer at their warehouse to an Allied Van Lines truck headed to Chicago and everything got to my new house on time and in perfect condition. Using a moving company for the first time, not to mention for a cross country move in the middle of a pandemic, Scott and Luis were extremely helpful and made the whole process wonderfully easy. Superb! Exceptional! Best move ever - and we've had many. Everything about Robb & Messer's handling of our move from California to Illinois was superb. Scott provided the estimate in a fraction of the time of other large companies and his expertise and courtesy eliminated much of the stress in our complicated move. Marcus supervised the loading, and not only got it done in record time, but seemed happy to do it! Scott rescued us when a delay in closing on our new property required finding a storage location for unloading, and arranged for a great team to load again and deliver. The unloading, which went fast and smoothly, was supervised by Tito, the most sincere, courteous guy ever. He saw to it that everything was placed exactly where we wanted it, and even took time to point out uneven flooring and stabilize tall bookcases. As Tito checked off numbered boxes, Chris, Dave, Nathan and Demetri moved as an efficient and courteous team, smiling and welcoming us to their part of the country the whole time.
