These literal gentlemen moved my apex client twice in three days. Sadly, a nasty neighbor was continuously awful during the first move yet they all navigated this hiccup with a confident grace, making a tense day actually fun. Both gals in the office could not have been easier to talk to: patient, solution based, and smart. Owner Micheal went the extra mile to call me and my client (without requesting it) to ensure we were taken care of. Adam, Tariq and Felipe were the most efficient and kind movers I have ever hired--especially Tariq, who offered my fiancé extra help with packing a valuable item. They were on-time and were able to move all of my stuff out of a one bed one bath apartment in under 2 hours. Transparent pricing and clear communication throughout. The Co-owner of the company, Michael, came personally to my apartment to perform the walkthrough and provide a proper estimate. He always followed up quickly to any questions I had before the move. Moved my office with Gentle Giant the edge of my conference table was damaged, it is round and they rolled it on hard surfaces to get it through the doors, I watched them. Fabric was ripped on some of the chairs they were not wrapped in blankets. I discussed this with the owner at one point in the conversation he said "the chairs were cheap faux leather" (wrong answer). He then offered some used chairs that he had from other moves that had not paid their bill (ok), but crickets. Finally, I called him today and he said he was mistaken he doesn't have any chairs (thanks for the follow up) of course this all occurred after he had been paid. Bottom line the cost of replacing the damaged items "those 4 cheap chairs" will cost as much as the move so a couple of thousand dollars to move 400 square office 10 miles. Would I use this company again or recommend them to anyone? Absolutely not! Responce - I did not purchase the additional insurance, that's my fault, however if the chairs were properly packed I suspect they would not have been torn up the way they were. I have added a picture of the unpacked items you are referring to, other than the half of a desk you can see what was left behind, not that this would having anything do to the damaged items. Yes you offered to come by with your movers to "discuss" and compare pictures to what end? $0.60 per pound I would get maybe $12 a chair, replacements will run $200 apiece. Not interested in getting $48 to cover a $800 expense and spend even more time. To preface this: I have moved over 25 times in my life (too many to count), so I am qualified to say that Gentle Giant is hands down the best moving company I have ever used (I use Atlas for all of my long distance moves as well, and they're an agent for Atlas, but I digress). I have a lot of fine art and antiques, including some VERY large and heavy pieces (7' tall armoire, etc). In the three times so far I've used them, they have left not a SINGLE scratch or dent on any of the items. Plus, they will give you a binding quote up front. I just wanted to say how very pleased I was with my most recent moving experience. I moved from Hawthorne to LA, which isn't that far, only about 30 minutes away. But the Gentle Giants helped me move from my one bedroom, upstairs apartment to a one story house so fast, and without nickel and diming me. I mention that because I called a few other places before them and some were outright ridiculously high priced ($800+!) Gentle Giants were affordable and really were efficient. Tony and Felipe were friendly too and their calmness helped ease the stress I had from my family's move. I was impressed with how professional the movers were and really were good at what they do! I'm still so impressed that they moved my wide 8ft couch with no problem, out of a narrow doorway, down a steep flight and a half out stairs! Also setting the appointment up was very easy and I felt very reassured after speaking with Alexis that this was the company to book. So thank you so much for the great moving experience. Trying to work with Gentle Giant Moving has been VERY poor so far for my Interstate move. I did a local move first from a residence in CA to their Hawthorn CA warehouse-which went fairly well. The packers and particularly Luis were awesome in terms of being quick and friendly and flexible! Thank you Luis. Hopefully things were packed well, but will be able to speak to that once the shipment arrives in Colorado. The CA to CO portion of the move will take place IF, IF...I can ever get an accurate contract from Maria and /or Micael for the interstate move from CA to CO. Extremely frustrating working with both Co-owners. I have moved from Hawaii to CO and also from USA to Switzerland. MUCH easier moves with more clarity and knowledge of the agent than with GGiant. They talk down to me, explaining repeatedly the same thing without actually listening to or answering my questions. Multiple errors found on hours, milage, etc needing to be corrected but they never offer any apology for their inaccuracies. So exhausting working with this agent. The owners over talk the customer and are arrogant and defensive to normal questions about what is on the contract. I have had much better luck getting answers and being treated with respect by calling and also going to the website of their long distance interstate partner (Atlas Van Lines). Based on my experience thus far with GGiant, I do not recommend them. Communication is poor, treating the customer with respect poor, knowledge of procedure details is poor. Michael the owner told me to "call corporate " for my simple question to how the mileage is calculated. Weird. They also wanted me to sign that I received the Fed mandated booklet on customer rights and responsibilities. I was never given it. I requested it from Maria and asked why I had not received it. She acted put out, said the other owner was supposed to give it to me, and said she'd send it if I wanted it. It is a legal requirement that give it. Just a very unprofessional company to work with and everything is a battle to get answers. Wish I was, and may, use a different agent if I can't get answers to questions on my contract. read more

EXCELLENT experience...Gentle Giant is a local moving company that is also works long distance in partnership with Atlas. I've used Gentle Giant locally as have people I know and it's always been a good experience. But this time it was different. We now have a 3 bedroom, 3 story home and we were moving across the country to Atlanta. Hearing and reading so many horror stories and seeing how unscrupulous companies can be had us concerned to make the right decision. We received 4 quotes and we found Michael (one of the owners) to be the most transparent and honest and went with them and MAN are we glad we did. In every step of the process they were honest and steered us to make the right decisions. Everything arrived when they said, on time, and without incident. The exception was a table, which they reached out to us AHEAD of our things arriving and let us know. Took responsibility and then compensated us promptly. So much integrity. The gentleman who moved our things across country and then into our home was also honest and trustworthy, great at what he did, and had local team who also worked incredibly hard. Our home was not touched either in LA or when we got to Atlanta...Maria, who is Michael's partner was always available by phone and was so helpful. Just completed an interstate move (CA to NV) and couldn't have been happier with the team at Gentle Giant/Atlas Moving. Michael came out to survey our move in person (unlike some who only wanted to do a virtual tour) and gave us the most thorough and accurate estimate of the four moving companies I contacted. We appreciated his diligence. Maria was very patient in answering all of my questions leading up to the moving, made all arrangements for the third-party vendors we needed for crating/uncrating special items and handled all the paperwork. Reynaldo and his team of packers and movers were terrific. They were extremely careful, yet fast and efficient. As a long time renter of houses I have gone throgh many moving experiences. I have to say this one was probably the best. Just moved into a four bedroom house so the job was a fairly big and these guys got it done in an efficient 8.5 hours without any damage or drama. Gary Sr. was the boss here and he was as good as could be in managing his workers and dealing with me as the client. He was super in everyway, making a painful experience as pleasant as possible. Even my pitbull liked him. Also appreciate the hard work of his team; Alex, Gary Jr, Elvis and Fernando. Those guys all worked incredibly hard and seemed like a good team. I had a cross-state move from Boston to Maine. I hired Gentle Giant for their packing service, storage service (one night), and delivery service without full unpacking. The team was extremely friendly and professional. They were communicative, quick at their work, and packed everything extremely well. I barely lifted a finger with the packing service! At unpack, even though I did not pay for the unpacking service, the team still placed heavy furniture in the right rooms and re-constructed the deconstructed furniture from the packing process. Above all, the whole thing was much less expensive than I anticipated, but the quote they gave me in the beginning was accurate. The case manager was also very helpful in providing all details and answering all my questions. I can't imagine hiring another company other than Gentle Giant. read more

We recently moved across town from one 3 bed/ 2 bath house to another of about the same size. After hearing and reading about all of the unscrupulous movers out there, we were very nervous about hiring a moving company, but my days of renting U-haul trucks and buying buddies pizza and beer to help me move are LONG behind me now. A friend recommended Gentle Giant Moving Company and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. I explained to the estimator, Michael, that we really wanted to do the move as economically as possible, and he was very upfront about the way the pricing works. We would be charged an hourly rate for 3 men, plus one extra hour for drive time to and from their warehouse. The quicker the move went, the less we would pay. To make things go more quickly, he said we should have everything except the big furniture items packed and ready to go. The boxes should be stacked head-high with boxes of the same sizes in each stack. To further speed things up, we could transport oddball hard to pack items (potted plants, lamps, small TV's, musical equipment, etc.) ourselves in our cars ahead of time, and we did a few runs with these types of items the day before move day. The day of the move, we were ready to roll. Adam, Felipe, and Tarik showed up at 8AM and got busy. They meticulously wrapped up the large furniture items with cardboard and furniture blankets. Since some of these items were antiques, we were happy to see them do such a thorough job! They filled the truck to the brim and headed over to the new house. The access was not easy at our new house, but the crew figured out a way to back the truck into our driveway and connect their ramp to our front porch. They then placed floor protection in the high traffic areas to make sure the carpet wasn't damaged. We were really impressed with their knowledge and efficiency! A little under 6 hours from start to finish, and the move was complete. Not bad for a 3 bed 2 bath home with a nearly full garage and patio furniture! The price ended up being on the low-end of the range I was expecting and there were no additional charges other that the hourly rate I had been quoted (bonus--tax is included). This review is for both Gentle Giants (Los Angeles-Hawthorne CA) and also Atlas moving company as they are the ones who ultimately moved our household items (Gentle Giants packed our house up, then it was transferred to an Atlas truck, and Atlas unpacked our stuff into our new home. This was anticipated and expected. I'd give them both 2 stars. See below. Well many people have far worse experiences, but ours was bad enough. The Gentle Giants packing crew did an ok job, but in a couple cases where I specifically said "this is very fragile and expensive and you please need to pad and pack it very well" to the vperson who was about to pack that very item ... I discovered later that they only put cardboard around it, with ZERO padding. Yes some of these items were damaged. Also a few things were packed in a way that they were guaranteed to be broken (and they were) Also Gentle Giants came and an expert estimator gave an estimate, but the actual cost was 10% higher. They said "it is because of the weight" Yes the estimator saw ALL of the stuff we were moving. So beware of that possibility. On the unpacking day, the Atlas driver (and person in charge.. this is normal) hired a local Atlas crew of about 4 young men. This is normal. First thing - the driver/crew chief/person in charge taped cardboard on the hardwood stairs to protect them from the dollies used for moving boxes, and that was good... however his local crew was removing tons of boxes from the truck very fast as he was doing this. There was lots going on, and I didn't realize what was happening 'till about a little while later (just when the driver had finished taping cardboard to the hardwood stairs) and I heard the driver/crew chief/person yelling loudly outside by the truck "You guys are way ahead of me and I have no idea what has come off the truck so the inventory is useless!" So basically the paper inventory of all the boxes #'s with nice check marks as to the box arrived safely, was useless. We had (and have) zero assurance that nothing went missing. So the Atlas driver/crew chief/person-in-charge didn't manage this important part of the job at all. So there were about 13 items (some valuable) that were damaged. I pointed out what we knew was damaged at the end of the move, and the driver/crew chief/person took photos with his cell phone and told us "these photos have now been submitted to Atlas" but during the long and frustrating "repair or replacement value" coverage these photos never surfaced. ( I didn't expect them to, realistically) The frustrating "repair or replacement value" claim with Atlas was ridiculous. I submitted the form, with photos, and Atlas kept coming back (many, many times) with what they called "fair and reasonable offers" that were a tiny fraction of replacement cost. All this was clearly documented and photographed by both me, and also they sent a local Atlas contracted claims person to look at and photograph the damaged items. Atlas claims literally just kept offering tiny fractions (or nothing) for damaged items. I'm a polite, professional reasonable person, and their conduct was outrageous. On one phone call I simply and politely said to the claims person "all i expect Atlas to do is to honor the terms of our contract" and the claims person seemed quietly shocked... as if I was one of the first people ever to state this so clearly. I strongly suspect that Atlas claims is simply playing the game of hoping the claimant will simply give up, and settle for far less than they are entitled to, by the terms of the "repair or replace" contract. (yes I read it carefully) After many months of this game Atlas was playing they finally just said ok we will pay you for the full amount of your claim... and they mailed a check. So - is moving a unpleasant experience? Yes. Could it have been far worse? yes. However - could the Gentle Giants packers have done a better job, especially on (but not limited to) valuable fragile items that I specifically indicated, to the person who was about to pack it? YES. Could have the Atlas driver/crew chief/person-in-charge of unloading the truck into our house ..... actually managed the local crew, delegated the cardboard taping to protect the wood stairs in our house, and actually DONE the box and item inventory as he was supposed to do? YES. Could the Atlas claims process have been a lot more reasonable, and not played stupid games with me for months? YES. Be aware. read more

Gentle Giant really lives up to its name. They moved me over the weekend and I simply could not have done it without them. I used 3 guys, and they were able to load my old place into their truck within 1 1/2 hours. They even beat me to my new place. They unloaded just as fast. The whole move took only 4 hours. Best moving experience! From the initial estimate with Michael to the final delivery in Denver, the process was smooth, communications clear (thank you Maria!), and all of our goods were treated with care and attention. (We have unpacked 90% items, so far nothing was broken or gotten damaged!) Michael's estimates were spot on, every line item cost is transparent -- and I love that he was conservative, so there was no surprises on the weighing day, the final cost was below estimate. In addition, he gave great advice to help me reduce packing costs and meet our budget. As a result, the moves was so well planned, and my own packing started weeks early, and reduced the last minute stress to a minimal. I want to particularly thank the entire Gentle Giant packing and wrapping and loading team (Derek, Chewy, Gabriel, Jesus) -- but especially Chewy and Derek, they were the BEST packers and wrapper I have encountered. My husband and I have moved across the US, and back and forth from China, all together 5 times in the last 11 years, and Gentle Giant is by far the best. They were courteous, gentle, thorough, and are the ultimate professionals. And I very much appreciate Driver Joe for taking the extra time to meet us at the weighing stations, and carefully inventory all the goods, and delivering at the earliest possible date. The Denver-based Atlas crew that Joe brought in was fast, efficient, courteous and careful as well. They made sure our travertine floors and brand-new carpets were protected, and assembled the furniture with great care. Our realtor recommended Gentle Giant for our move from a one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom condo. While only two people, we have a lot of stuff that range from heavy to fragile to family heirlooms. The Gentle Giant team not only took great care of our things, but they fully moved us from Palms to Culver City in just a little over 3 hours! They were very efficient, and the team worked liked true professionals. They were also very communicative about anything we should note before they moved it, and even took apart and reassembled our bedframe like they had done it 1000 times before (which I'm guessing they have!). Gentle Giant made moving so easy despite how much I was dreading it. While I hope we don't move anytime soon, we'll definitely use them again when the time comes! read more

Last summer I moved from Los Angeles to Charlotte, NC and I received a quote from a moving company that gave me a binding estimate of $3,900.00 for the move. Based on previous moves this estimate seemed accurate so I scheduled a move with this company about 6 weeks prior to my move date. However, a few days before the move the company said they needed to increase the estimate as a safety and once everything was actually weighed they would adjust the price. This made me a little nervous but being a few days before the move it left me little choice. Come the day of the move, the original moving company sent a 3rd party mover with a ratty looking rental van to pick up my furniture. The 3rd party mover sent their estimator along and she said I would need to pay an additional $9,000.00 for the move! Outraged, I called the original mover and their response was to pay the $9,000.00 and they would work something out. Having already been gouged once already I was not about to be taken for another $9,000.00 Fortunately, a neighbor of mine who witnessed my distress said she had a friend who owned a moving company and she would give him a call. The company was Gentle Giant and the friend was Michael, the owner. He said he would see what he could do on such short notice. I proceeded to give the corrupt third party movers their walking papers and a short time later Michael called me to say he was able to pull a crew together and my furniture would be picked up the following morning. Sure enough, the following morning a large van showed up with a professional crew and they did a fabulous job. More importantly, Michael gave me a very fair estimate and said if it had not been such short notice he could have probably matched the original quote I received from the other mover. Michael kept my goods in storage until I was able to find a place to live in Charlotte and once I found a place my goods arrived as scheduled on my move-in day. The move-in went as smooth as could be and the crew was courteous and professional. First I would like to thank my neighbor, Desiree, for recommending Gentle Giant, she came through at a very stressful moment. Most of all, I wish to thank Michael and everyone at Gentle Giant. In a situation where he could have easily taken advantage, not only did he make everything happen at a moment's notice but he did it at a fair price. His honesty and professionalism is extraordinary and I only wish other movers could come close to Michael's values. Rip off con artist masquerading around as a "Antique moving company" - - Today We used GG for over a decade and didn't have any problems until the change of management this last year. They had always been helpful, efficient and with a few bumps and scrapes right on in terms of moving us. Until this year. We were given a quote. We explained we had over 50+ stairs at the new location. The quote was a do not exceed quote that included said stairs. Since we used them before we waived the insurance rider on top of the basic. Why would we suddenly have a problem with a company that gave us stellar service in the past right? WRONG. The movers showed up pissed off and with mad attitude. From the moment they saw the location you could tell they thought it had been underbid. I made it clear I was the point person if they had any questions..not my elderly mother. We fed them lunch and dinner as we knew it would be a hard day. We offered them cash or meals...we did everything we could to make it easier on everyone before we left the first location I saw two different movers throwing boxes on the ground and in the truck. I asked THREE times if they could leave someone to watch the unattended truck full of our antiques sitting open on the street in downtown LA. All I got back was attitude. I went to the second location. Back at the first location the lead mover told my mother if she did not pay them an additional $1500 they would not finish the move. Keep in mind this is a DO NOT EXCEED quote. My mother told him she did not feel comfortable and he should talk to me. Instead he threatened to take the truck back to GG and call off the move in essence holding our stuff hostage. Finally she relented. He had her "sign" a "receipt" that I found out later was an agreement to wave the do not exceed and go hourly. Nice....after I had made it clear they should talk to me they strong arm an elderly woman. They show up to the second location and proceed to drop, throw, drag and otherwise destroy generations of antiques. They put most of it in the garage and when the owner of GG comes out and sees how destroyed and badly packed the garage is he sputters "Oh my god! what the hell???" Total damage: $12,650.00 (broken fostoria crystal a gift to my great grandmother from her wedding, a shattered armoire, crowns and legs busted off eastlake chairs and tables) Worst part is I don't care about the money. I care about the memories of these pieces and what they mean to my family. The owner promised me he would resolve it and POOF disappeared. Because the lead mover had my mom sign the "receipt" we are now left with only the option of a lawsuit. These people are criminal. What they do is shameless and at the rate they are going I hope they are out of business before they EVER do to another family what they have done to us. read more

*UPDATE See Michael's response to my original review for tips on how NOT to respond to negative Yelp reviews. It should be noted the Michael became even more uncooperative after he saw my negative review. We did eventually get the $750 owed to us for the floor repair. Michael went out of his way to make the experience as difficult as possible. He refused to reimburse *me* for the repair, instead insisting on paying the flooring contractor directly. (A lawyer friend told me he couldn't actually demand that since I--not the contractor--was the one with damages, but it wasn't worth the hassle to continue arguing with Michael.) Luckily, the flooring contractor also knew Michael was full of it, so he agreed to accept the check and pass the money on to us. (For a variety of reasons, we didn't want to make the repairs immediately.) So I would still tell anyone to stay away from these guys when scheduling a move. They managed to turn a relatively small and fixable issue into something that dragged on for months and became a pain in the butt for everyone involved. read more

I was referred to Gentle Giant from the Atlas main coordinator. After two months of being bounced around by Atlas Gentle Giant called me to coordinate my move. They sent a consultant out to my home to do an estimate. Louis very nice and courteous and gave me a quote I agreed to. Then the trouble started... I called Gentle Giant while Louis was still in my home and Andrew told me that the manager, Marlene, would call me the next day to send me the paperwork. The next day came and went and no call from Marlene. I called the day after and Marlene informed me that they didn't have any drivers to go out to my location (I was going interstate) and they would have to store my things in a warehouse. This extra service would cost an extra $1,300!!! I was very upset by this and when I questioned Marlene she said that it wasn't her fault that nobody told me this information. I went back and forth with Gentle Giant and Atlas and the problem was never resolved. Nobody ever apologized and instead of trying to make the situation right Marlene just through her employees under the bus. On my final call back to Gentle Giant (they never called me back after promising to - they claimed other people were more important) Marlene said she didn't want to work with me and hung up. Gentle Giant has terrible customer service and in the end I can't imagine the actual moving experience would have been anything but a nightmare. read more

Other than their breaking my flat screen TV, they were great! Personnel were friendly and knowledgeable, and their price was fair. They did everything they promised on time, and for the agreed-upon price. In fact, they were extra flexible when my new home fell through for a week and they had to sit on my belongings for a week. But. One of their workers got careless with my television and broke it. Because they are only obliged to give me 60 cents per pound, I got less than $50 for my $600 TV. (The homeowners insurance coverage I thought I had turned out not to cover this particular kind of loss.... ) read more

I just moved a few days back. This is the second time I used Gentle Giant. The first time I used them, I wasn't entirely thrilled with their work. I had wanted to use Delancey but they were booked. So, I tried GG again because I appreciated their work last time with some caveats. Previously, I had paid for three guys, but during the 1st move the 3rd guy (and foreman) spent the entire time in the truck preparing the truck to leave leaving 2 guys to do all the unloading. Basically, I was paying for 3 guys and 2 were working. I have to say, my opinion changed the 2nd move. Gentle Giant came out and gave a "not to exceed" estimate and the total cost came in well under the quote. Both the owner that created the quote and the head of the team of movers were very well spoken, gave great attention to detail, explaining every nuance. Our move was complicated: from one apartment, a second story condo 50 yards from the truck and a storage facility to a third floor condo. The furniture included an extra long soft that they had to carry up stairs to the 3rd floor after a long day of loading and unloading a huge van of boxes and furniture, most of it antique.They also moved a large wooden sculpture that looks doomed to be broken in perfect shape. They arrived early, were very responsible, asking questions about different furniture. They carefully covered floors and left the places very clean. They were friendly, professional, worked amazingly hard with one short break all day. We have unpacked over 90% of the boxes and only one hat was squished and really it should have been thrown out years ago! They were very careful. I would definitely recommend Gentle Giant based on my experience. read more

I need to write this review while it is fresh on my mind. Yesterday was our third time moving with Gentle Giant and they've been great every time, but this time was particularly fantastic. The company sent out a gentleman to do a quote at our home- gives you a better idea of the scope of your move and how much it will end up costing you. The nice part is that they won't go over the quoted price, even if the work ends up taking longer than expected. On the flip side, you only pay for what you use, so if it takes less time, they only charge you for that. We were quoted 9 hours with 4 guys- I know, crazy, but we have A LOT of stuff for two people so it seemed accurate. The men showed up promptly at 8 a.m. with a HUGE truck and got straight to work. They loaded the entire house, patio furniture, and 2-car garage in less than 2 hours. 2 HOURS!!!! We had a lot of odd items (bikes, surf boards, an old-fashioned sewing machine) and they took special care of everything. They provided us with wardrobe boxes for our closets so moving clothes was a breeze. Every time they've helped us with our move they encourage us to leave nothing behind, which has saved us many back-and-forth car trips for those loose items you avoid packing at first. At the new house, they carefully laid down pathways of cardboard so they wouldn't scuff or scratch our newly refinished hardwood floors. In the end, the entire move was complete in 5 hours- MAGICAL. My husband and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the professionalism and efficiency of Gentle Giant Moving & Storage. Hopefully we won't be moving again for awhile, but if we do we know exactly who we'll be calling. You can't go wrong with these guys. read more

Best money I have ever spent! My girlfriend and I spent 3 weeks packing, prepping and moving boxes on our own, so by the time our actual move day came, we were completely burned out. The gentle giant guys helped us more than I can even express here. The amount of stuff these two guys moved in a 2 hours would have taken us 2 days. We were quoted a 6-7 hour move, the guys finished it in 4 1/2. Friendly movers, took great care of our boxes and furniture. This was my first time using professional movers, and I cant imagine how I did it without them. read more

I moved from an apartment in K-town into the ginormous Park La Brea community. I just knew that I'd need movers, since we only had an elevator reserved for 4 hours to move in. That, and most of my friends were out of town. :-/ The company sent a guy out a week in advance to survey my belongings and determine how many men were needed, about how much time it would take, and how big of a truck they'd need. He gave me a quote, and the quote gives you the highest amount you can be charged for the job, depending on how much time the guys actually need. On moving day, my three movers showed up almost an hour EARLY, and eager to get started. It's important to note, though, that if they show up early, you will pay for that time if you let them start working! It was great though, they wrapped all of my wooden furniture to keep it from being scratched, they disassembled my bed for me, and they brought wardrobe boxes so that my clothes hanging in the closet could still hang in transit. When we arrived at my new place, they put all of my furniture items where I wanted them, and they reassembled my bed. They were extremely careful with my television, and they finished with time to spare, so I didn't have to pay the full amount quoted. The guys were really nice, so I made sure that I bought them lunch and sent them off with a little something extra -- they worked hard and deserved it. The only item damaged was a lamp shade, and it probably needed to be replaced anyway. read more

We didn't actually end up using Gentle Giant for our move because, as we were discovering, we actually didn't have enough stuff to make a full service moving company the right choice for us. Gentle Giant actually recommended van lines or a PODS type solution instead. (Most other moving companies offered what they could to make using their services as cheap as possible without mentioning that we were maybe making a mistake looking at that kind of service at all). We were really impressed by how honest and straight-shooting Michael was-- I'd definitely recommend him to anyone trying to navigate the world of competing moving companies; he's just an all around good guy. read more

I had a last minute local move, and all the companies with good reviews on Yelp were booked up, so I went with these guys since they had nothing but positive ratings (although not many). And they are awesome!! Extremely professional and efficient - my two bedroom apt. was loaded with two guys in about an hour (same on the unload). I have moved a lot, and these guys were the best movers I have ever used. They wrapped everything with the utmost care, and were gentle with my new hardwood floors and wood steps...plus they did everything with a smile. The truck was also HUGE, and the price was flat (not much more than renting the truck yourself really). And they gave 50% back on the boxes I bought from them when I returned them after the move. They moved us from 2 locations (both in the South Bay) to 1 location (also in the South Bay)... 3 movers, 3 hours total. They were fast and flawless. They wrapped up everything, had boxes to put things in, moved it wherever we wanted it moved -- everything you'd expect, just they did it perfectly and quickly. When you call to schedule, they'll ask if you want 2 or 3 guys, and they'll suggest 3 because it is more efficient and will save the customer money. After watching them work, I'd agree. They have the system figured out very well, with one guy loading/unloading the truck and the other 2 moving everything up stairs or whatnot. And the 3rd guy (in the truck) was never standing idle; if they were wrapping things or moving boxes up a lot of stairs, and he wasn't needed in the truck, he helped out the other 2 people. The only drawback for having 3 guys is if you are having them drive a very long way in significant traffic, because you're charged the 3-man-rate while they are in transit (which is standard amongst moving companies)... so if you're moving at rush hour and you're going to have 3 guys stuck on the 405 for a few hours, then go with 2. Otherwise get 3 guys. I will definitely hire Gentle Giant again the next time I'm in the market for movers! read more

When we had to make a last minute move, my regular movers were not available so I went with these guys. We were moving from one part of Long Beach to another....from and into a 3 bedroom 2 bath house. They were professional, gave me a free estimate. They sent 4 guys and did a fantastic job. VERY professional, very nice with lots of hustle. The estimate was for 9 hours...these guys did it in 6. No breaks...not even lunch! Very nice guys who made the move as easy as a move can be. Nothing broken, everything moved very carefully. These guys are more expensive than the service I usually use and I think it is because they take a bit of time wrapping everything to protect it. Not really important for us...we have pretty cheap furniture, so I would have preferred that they weren't so careful (it isn't optional). But if you have nice stuff, these guys will take care of it. read more

Irene was very helpful creating the estimate, sending paperwork timely and being extremely responsive by email and telephone to our questions. The movers were punctual, efficient, careful and professional. They emailed an invoice receipt to me within minutes of finishing the move and the total came in below the estimate quoted to us. Gentle Giant is an upstanding boutique moving company connected with a reputable national chain. I highly recommend them. After weeks of anxiety around finding a moving company for our cross-country journey, a competitor recommended Gentle Giant after the other company was not able to accommodate our move due to scheduling. Immediately, I thought that it was pretty telling that a competitor would stand by them. Then, Mike, the co-owner, completely won us over. He was a straight shooter and patiently answered all of my (1,000) questions about moving company selection (Maria, the other co-owner happily did the same). He revised our estimate 3 times and even stayed at the office after hours so we could pick up free boxes (before we had even committed to his estimate). His life story is incredibly compelling and he just has a good energy. The crew he connected us with did an excellent job and washed all of our worries away. When I needed a company to help me move out of my 2-bedroom condo from Burbank to Pasadena, a close friend of ours had recommended Gentle Giant since he has used them for a recent move. Although we did not ultimately work with GG, I did want to review the company as we had a good experience with them. From the first phone call to the estimate to the follow-up, they have great customer service and great advice for moving. While their estimate did come up on the high end of our choices (and, ultimately, why we had decided to use someone else), I would definitely seek out their services should the need arise again. read more

I've had awful experiences in the past when moving and always dreaded it, but after I met with GG to get the estimate for how much it would cost me to move, they made me feel a lot less stressed about it. On the day of the move, they were machines. They were so organized and methodical in how they did everything. Not only were they fast, but they wrapped everything up really well, took apart furniture that needed it and were really professional. Nothing was harmed and they got it done so quickly.
