Dr Franklin has consulted and treated 3 of our dogs starting with our terminally ill AWS, then our beloved poodle with severe IBD and most recently our moyen poodle with urinary issues when he was under a year. With our IBD boy, he made himself available after hours when meds were first started and was there to help him cross the bridge. He is a one of kind and totally irreplaceable. read more

He needs to retire. He was ok when I first brought my dogs and cats to him back in 2008. I had a very bad experience with him when I had to put my cat to sleep. It was on an aluminum table. I was crying and he kept looking at his watch.....My dog was a regular client back then and kept getting sick. he ended up very sick at Tualatin emergency. They called Dr. Franklin for a consult. He refused to give advise. I ended up rushing him to Columbia River Vet Specialists. He had HGE which is life threatening. They saved his life. It turned out that my dog had Inflammory Bowel Disease, but was never diagnosed by Franklin. CRV specialists saved his life and he is now 16 years old and healthy. Dr Franklin saved my cocker spaniels life. She was 22 lbs and failing fast, he took charge immediately and now she is at 29 lbs and like a new dog. He has always been kind and concerned about me and my dog. He is working with my local vet who had reccommended him and I really appreciate that. Had our little greyhound's teeth cleaned by another clinic with very sad results. Dr. Franklin and his staff did an extraordinary job in caring for him, but because of an aggregate of initial problems from the cleaning, along with an undiagnosed intestinal issue, we lost our pup after three weeks of intense care. Crushing loss but the specialist clinic did all they could. They did have a sincere and individual concern about our dog. read more

Dr. Franklin is a hero in my eyes. He saved my beloved dog's life. In the fall of 2010, my six-year old dachshund, Buddy, was not well. Blood tests and visits to three other veterinarians had confirmed anemia, but no one could pinpoint the cause. Dr. Bob was also unable to determine the cause, but using his amazing intuition, determined that an autoimmune deficiency approach was warranted. We started Buddy on a course of very expensive medications; some of which, Dr. Bob was able to donate from a stock of previous meds turned over to him (as I would later do when Buddy recovered). For a few months, Buddy declined slowly but steadily. We attempted a blood transfusion, which did help for a brief time, but his blood levels continued to decline. Throughout it all, Dr. Bob remained positive and supportive, while at the same time he was thoroughly professional and realistic. It certainly seemed that my little best friend was doomed. Throughout this period, I took him in to see Dr. Bob on a weekly and sometimes even daily basis. Because Buddy was getting very frequent blood readings, Dr. Bob was able to work a deal where I paid a highly discounted price of just $10 per reading. (That's more than 90% less than the largest local chain charges.) If I had used only the large chain, I would never have been able to afford the 30 or so blood tests that Buddy endured. As Buddy hovered near death, around Christmas of 2010, by some miracle the Cyclosporin that Dr. Franklin had prescribed suddenly began to take effect. Over a period of three months, we gradually weaned Buddy from his various medications, and today, more than six years later, he has had no recurrence of the disease, and remains healthy. In fact, it is better than that, somehow. It seems as if Dr. Franklin handed my beloved best friend a new lease on life. After he fully recovered, he was even more energetic and happy than he had been before. It was like I got a new puppy all over again. Long story short: Dr. Franklin is incredible. Knowledgeable, friendly, and communicative. I went to Dr. Franklin to seek a second opinion for my cat who didn't seem like he could hold on much longer. After being told by a specialist at a different practice that I should essentially accept the fact that I'd need to put him to sleep, Dr. Franklin saw beyond the obvious symptoms that might throw off less experienced vets and recommended a treatment plan that is helping him recover wonderfully. I moved to Beaverton from the San Francisco Bay area in July 2013. My cat had been treated for thyroid disease for at least 6 months and was failing (had lost 1/3 of her body weight and was petite to begin with). A co-worker referred me to Dr. Franklin because he had a specialty in thyroid related conditions and had treated and cured her cat. I took my cat in and he determined she did not have a thyroid problem but rather had an inflammatory bowel condition which he then treated with antibiotics and predinose to help put some weight back on. She is doing well now and is back up to her "fighting weight" - he saved her life ! He was responsive to my questions with explanations accessible to a lay person, and extremely responsive in reporting results and meaning of test results. The staff is absolutely terrific. Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. A very well run clinic. I feel so lucky I decided to give them a try. Dr. Franklin is my kitty's doctor for the rest of her life. read more

Outstanding specialty hospital. Dr. Franklin was a kind, honest, and expert veterinarian. I was very surprised at the reasonable prices (more than at a typical vet clinic, but not prohibitively so. Still much cheaper than ER and definitely closer in scale to a vet clinic). When our CKD cat crashed hard, we were referred to Dr. Franklin. Within a few days, we had a much better handle on the situation and had a protocol in place to do our best to help our lil girl recover. Dr. F was quick to adjust depending on how our cat was progressing, calling to follow-up nearly once a day. He clearly explained test results and treatment options and most certainly pushed for the best care (not for the most expensive). In addition, Dr. F's supporting staff was amazingly kind and supportive. Anyone that ends up at a specialty hospital is not having a good time with their pet. His staff was sensitive but professional, giving people the attention they needed promptly but also not rushing clients. I was very glad to work with Dr. F and the team at OVSH. There is a disgruntled reviewer libeling Dr. Franklin and his colleague Dr. Earp on Yelp, so I'm throwing in my 2 cents. I've been taking my cats to Dr. Franklin since 1998, and I trust him implicitly with their welfare. There is only one other person on Earth whom I trust that much. Dr. Franklin isn't always a warm & fuzzy therapist type of vet - he's incredibly smart and instinctive, and **he always puts the patient first**. I don't need a therapist to coddle me, I need a vet who has sound judgment, lots of experience, and will do whatever is needed to keep my companion animals well, and gently help them move on when it's the most compassionate thing to do. He does have plenty of compassion, and he's always been very kind, sweet, and gentle with my cats (including one who gave him a nasty bite). He is very kind, sweet and gentle with me as well, and he helped me through one of the most difficult and horrific experiences of my life - and many other terrifying times when my cats were very ill. He won't try to read your mind so if you have questions, you have to take responsibility and ask the questions - his focus is **on the patient**. This is rare and incredibly valuable. He'll take all the time you need and explain as much as you need to feel you understand the situation, you just have to ask and make sure he knows what your concerns are and what you're needing to know. Knowing he will always put the patient first is a great comfort...I can take care of myself because I speak Human; my animals can't, so I need him to take care of them - and he does it extremely well. read more

Dr. Franklins office staff alone is worth 5 stars. They are amazing when you call. You either get thru to the Dr. Or you get an immediate answer from his nurse or Dr. Franklin will call you back. This place is customer service at its best! Dr. Franklin is so kind with the animals it makes you feel he really cares. My cat went in for IR 131 thyroid treatment and all my questions were answered before and after treatment. Sure would be nice if some other vets insisted on customer service at the level Dr. Franklin does. This place is "The Best"! read more

Dr. Franklin and his team are absolutely the best!! After going to several different clinics on opinions on our cats vomiting, we were referred to Dr. Franklin who discovered that our cat had cancer. Dr. Franklin was very thorough in explaining our options and wanted to support us in what we thought was best for our "kid". We decided to try chemo and couldn't be more happy with the results. Our cat entered remission within six months of starting chemo! Nearly two years later, our kitty is still alive and going strong!
