I am pleased to say the consistency of taste, customer service, and friendliness is the same at both locations. My go to is the breakfast chapin - black beans, scrambled eggs w/ onions + tomatoes, served with queso fresco & a side of bread. The black beans are always cooked to perfection with lots of flavor, the eggs are cooked perfectly & the bread is a nice warm touch. There is plenty of indoor seating & a nice outdoor space as well. Why did I wait so long to come here? From the moment I walked in, the service was warm and friendly. The restaurant had a great vibe, was spotless, and smelled absolutely delicious. Now let's talk about the food. I ordered a large vanilla blended drink and oh my--it was perfect. I also tried their piña soda, which was super refreshing and reminded me a bit of Inca Cola. Of course, I couldn't resist a pastry. I went with the guava and cheese, toasted, and it was sweet, warm, and so yummy. Honestly, it reminded me of Porto's... but better. This is a spacious Guatemalan café with delicious food. They are open mainly for breakfast and lunch. When you arrive, you order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table. It looks like it could be a good place to study or work as well. I'm not sure if they have Wi-Fi. For parking, there's a lot behind the building that tends to be busy. Tried out this new place for our weekly breakfast rotation on Fridays. My coworker and I shared the Mayan Breakfast, and personally, I thought it was just okay. The tamales were normal size, and we got the chicken, but it was so dry and crumbly, I had to add sauce to it to finish it. There was supposed to be some kind of house chirmol sauce on it, but I didn't see that. Also, the chicken almost seemed like it was the canned kind that you get from Costco; very interesting for a tamale. The plate came with eggs (we chose scrambled) and they were also dry. Unexpected Gem! Way More Than Just Bread & Pastries! Had I known Antigua Bread offered a full menu, I would have been here so much sooner. I thought it was just breads, pastries, and coffee, but man have I been missing out! Stopped in for a much-needed caffeine fix and a quick breakfast to go on a busy, errand-filled morning. We ordered: - breakfast burritos (get their salsa. yum) - iced lattes (sweet but not too sweet. clean and strong espresso, perfection) - and (of course) a couple of sweets. She bought two chocolate croissants and I got a bear claw and peach Danish for desserts. I also had a Hot Caramel Vanilla Latté and she had a hibiscus tea for drinks. I attended the opening of Antigua Bread Cafe, when I read about its new location in La Verne. They are open 7 days and week for breakfast, lunch or dinner (-except Sunday, they close at 4pm). Breakfast is served all day, which is an option I really like. When I hear the word "bread," I anticipate an array and a good variety to choose from (sourdough, multi-grain, rye, croissant, whole wheat, biscuit, etc.). Imagine my disappointment when my breakfast sandwich was on white toast with bacon, egg and cheese. I cannot remember the last time I ate white sandwich bread. Not only that, but in a couple of places the crust was separated from the bread. It was falling apart. I know the bread was fresh since this was the first day in business. It was very busy, so I just accepted it instead of waiting for another sandwich. The food was tasty and served with diced potatoes. I saw other customers enjoying omelets, tamales, pastries and coffee drinks. The lunch and dinner menu has a good selection of food, like burgers, Tuna melt, Club sandwich, Smoked turkey and Crispy chicken sandwiches, Tacos, Burritos, Nachos, Steak Picado, Enchiladas, and Tortas. I am going to return and give them another chance because the menu has a lot to choose from. Reservations are not required. You simply walk up to the counter, place your order, and pay. To the Management at ANTIGUA BREAD, I am a regular customer who loves your restaurant, but I wanted to share some honest feedback regarding my last few visits. I would love to see your business continue to thrive, as your customer service and the neatness of your shop are always excellent. During my last three visits, I've found the chapurradas and hojaldras to be consistently burnt. This was disappointing as I was sending this bread to my daughter in Oregon. I noticed some pieces were also significantly smaller than others. It would be wonderful if the staff could double-check the trays to ensure only perfectly baked bread is sold to customers. Recently, my son and his cousins visited for breakfast. They mentioned the beans were not fully cooked, and the presentation was a bit messy. As a suggestion for an authentic Guatemalan breakfast, using frijoles volteados instead of parados would really help with the neatness of the plate and provide that traditional flavor we all love. Same thing with the tamales and chuchitos, the flavor is not there. Modern store on the corner of a residential apartment complex. Plenty of parking if it's not busy. The menu was easy to understand so I got the breakfast called Antigua. It was eggs, black beans, a cube of cheese, fried plantains, bread, salsa and crema. I liked that the eggs were streaky which means they are real. The dish is advertised a 3 eggs but it was maybe 2. Plenty of delicious black beans. The predominant flavoring was onion with some garlic and cumin. The cube of cheese was just the right amount - sort of like feta. I saved the caramelized deep fried plantains for last because it's like a dessert and they retain heat forever. The bread (and the lack of 3 eggs) was the only disappointment. The store has "bread" in the name and this bread was at least a day old and quite stale. Still 4 stars meaning I would return. I would switch the bread for tortillas and get my eggs fried so I can count the yokes. The server/cashier had excellent knowledge of the menu and was friendly and polite. read more

The food here is okay. I ordered a tuna melt to go and it came with fries but they packed my food sloppy and threw a bunch of stale fries in the container. The first time I ordered a tuna melt here, they offered salad instead of fries but the lady over the phone didn't ask me and assumed I wanted fries. On another day I ordered a latte and for whatever reason the service was very slow, even though it didn't seem very busy. The lady kept making drinks but no one was getting their order and was left on the counter. No one told me that my order was on its way until maybe 20 minutes after I was standing there waiting. Great to have a Guatemalan cafe bakery in this part of town. I was in the mood for a tamale and remembered this place just opened. Place is nice and clean inside. Plenty of tables inside and out to enjoy your meal or coffee. The Tamale was a little underwhelming the masa was a little off. Should have been a bit more firmer for me. It had good flavor though. Heck I still ate it. The Champurrada was very good it was nice and crispy. Perfect to have with coffee or milk. Service was great I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the gentleman helping me answered my questions. First and foremost, this is what you need to know: Antigua is a city in Guatemala- colorful, antique and quaint looking. The name of the restaurant is telling us to expect Guatemalan food and pastries. This restaurant is beautiful and newly opened! To order you walk up to the counter and you get a number-food gets delivered to your table or you can also order at the touch screen kiosk. There are about 4 high chairs and 2 boosters in the restaurant. Lots of ample seating! Now for the food. I suggest you stick to what they focus on and order Guatemalan food. You don't go to a sea food restaurant and order chicken and then say the chicken sucked. The Antigua breakfast is amazing! Simple but delicious! It includes flavorful black beans, eggs of your choice, queso fresco, Maduros (fried plantains) and a side of toast or tortillas. I get the toast. The toast is a roll for those of you expecting a sourdough bread or whatever. I also order the horchata latte and they have options for dairy free milk. The concha's are Guatemalan so they have a different texture but they are delicious! That is my go to always. Additional things to know: your plate will come with a serving of sour cream and a salsa. The salsa is just tomato-it's not spicy at all whatsoever. It's flavor for your eggs. Add it. You won't regret it. Next, use the sour cream to dip your plantains in as you take a bite of beans. I'm explaining because it seems that some people have never tried foreign food or are confused as to what to expect at a place like this. I have tried their chicken tamales and they were delicious! I've also tried their ultimate Antigua breakfast and the steak is super tasty too! My husband loves the sandwich chapin. He usually adds fried plantains to the sandwich and it comes w a side of great tasting potatoes. He likes to order the chocolate croissant and it's flaky and delicious! We also tried the breakfast burrito on our last visit and it's huge! $5 with the order of a drink. Your choice of ham, bacon or sausage. It has eggs, potatoes, cheese and choice of meat.
