I was in Baton Rouge for 1 week when a friend of mine took me to Robertos for dinner....BEST DINNER I'VE HAD IN A WHILE! Menu is a bit pricey but it is worth it!! We had fried alligator with a delicious sauce, fried green tomatoes, and crab cakes...all were cooked to perfection! For the main course I had chicken Alfredo which was a little on the thick side with the sauce but I didn't mind...it made it very indulgent. I had no room for dessert but I'm sure they are just as good as everything else. If you are in the area, definitely stop by here. My husband and I came here for the first time and were blown away! The food was outstanding! I had the stuffed catch of the day and he had the Shrimp Roberto. Everything was excellent! We both really loved the sensation salads brought out before the entrees. My only complaint is the drink...I ordered a Moscow mule and it was entirely too sweet. My husband and I love coming here. Great atmosphere. Service is amazing as well. Fried green tomatoes are the best we've ever had! The soups are always good too-the cream of mushroom my fave. The fresh fish is delicious. Last time we got the spicy shrimp pasta, and it was too spicy for me. Still good and the waitress did warn us. I just think it needs a little less spice! This restaurant was the worst service I have experienced in a long time. I ordered the fish platter and it made me sick to my stomach the staff members were not using effective handwashing rubbing face and hair with bare hands. Also the waitress charged my debit card twice and if it wasn't for my card alert I would not have known because she did not apologize or let me know she made the mistake and it took a week for them to refund me. This Was My First Time Visiting And My last. Thanks for a horrible first impression. Second time I have eaten at Roberto's and the food is Phenomenal! Both times we ordered the BBQ shrimp appetizer which is different than any other restaurant--It is served on a grits cake. Sounds crazy, but tastes AMAZING! Then there are the Eggplant Crab Cakes, and some Brie and crab soup--I cannot explain how delicious that tastes! Adding to that--we tried the specials. The soup was a Roasted Poblano crab and corn soup--So darn good, I had to order one 'to go', so my husband could have it today--making sure he didn't eat all of mine last night. The entree special was Redfish over angel hair with eggplant, tomato, and some balsamic amazingness--It was so good that I just finished it COLD for lunch. I cannot say enough about this place, except, --Please add that special to the menu or make it once a month and call me!! Judging from the outside, you'd think that they filmed the movie "Saw" in here. But once you step inside, its a very warm and family oriented atmosphere. This is truly one of Baton Rouge's best restaurants. Known for its fabulous seafood, steaks and deserts. I had the NY strip and it was everything I cherished in a well done steak. i've been working in st gabriel this month so i've been checking out different places for lunch. roberto's has been one of the gems i've come across. really love the quaintness of the place; i'm guessing it was previously an old house on the river that was converted to a restaurant. obviously a local favorite as the probable host/owner would visit tables and chat with patrons. waitstaff was super friendly and efficient. despite the fact that the restaurant was packed, food was delivered in a timely fashion and was fresh and delicious. i had a grilled chicken salad for 10 bucks and shared an appetizer of fried sweet potato chips for 5 bucks. my dining companions had some pretty stellar looking fried catfish that came with a side salad, french fries, and lima beans...obvs filling for, if i remember correctly, 15 bucks?? if i ever make it out this way again, i'll definitely visit this restaurant again. read more

Wellllllll, I've been wanting to dine here for a long time. The problem is that my husband both like to have a couple drinks at dinner and we don't want to have to drive home after. Our friend volunteered to drive a bunch of us out there the other day which was perfect. The plus of the meal was that wine was 40% off! Woohoo. The service was great. It was a big group of us and she never got confused on who ordered what or anything so props to her! The appetizers were enjoyable. They had some spice to them! The entrees were kind of a let down to me. My redfish in a bag with crabmeat was just okay. It needed more flavor or maybe some Hollandaise on top or something. My husband had the surf and turf. We debated about splitting it because the surf was Seabass, which I love! I'm glad we didn't because the portions were very small and could've used some more seasoning. Raised by cajun grandparents in Lafayette, LA I can safely say this is an authentic Louisiana foodie gem. The building is perfectly old and charming giving a nostalgic vibe that compliments the menu. The crawfish étouffée and seafood gumbo both reminded me of home cooking without trying to be too fancy. The river road shrimp was spicy and sweet and so good. Catfish billy is a great dish! Our first visit was rewarded with quick, friendly service and a scrumptious meal. Appetizers included Crab & Brie soup and crabcakes. The soup was thick, full of flavor and lump crabmeat. My sugar dad surprised me with this gem of a restaurant for Valentine's day and it is now my favorite place to celebrate VD's! The atmosphere is homey and comforting. We ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. It turns out that it was NOT in fact the 1991 comedy-drama film starring Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Mary-Louise Parker but literal tomatoes that are fried. That was a little disappointing, but they tasted quite nice so we let it go. My sugar dad ordered the ribeye with a side order of gumbo. Sugar dad allowed me to taste the gumbo and it was so perfect that I immediately went into the kitchen to offer the chef my first born child. He declined, but the offer is still there if he ever needs it. The steak was tender, juicy, and everything my sugar dad needed in his life. I ordered the Catfish Billy which was also amazing. The catfish tasted so fresh that I knew if I were to perform a voodoo ritual to bring the catfish back to life, he would totally pass as a normal catfish. The etouffee was a pure creole magick. It was so incredible, I spoke French for several hours after the meal. Roberto's is a fantastic restaurant and I will be back. read more

Went with a party of 7 and though we were told that they don't take reservations we were seated fairly quickly considering it was around 6pm on a Friday. Our apps were fried green tomatoes and crab cakes both very good. The portion size of the fgt was very large for an app, it alone with a side salad would be efficient. Speaking of salad... I got the sensation dressing and the name is fitting for sure. I'm glad I didn't go with a standard flavor. It was full of garlic which I love but I felt bad for the people sitting next to me. *I wish I could get a bottle of it* My entre was Catfish Dot which is just broiled catfish typed with crawfish tails with no sauce. Lots and lots of crawfish tails I had a hard time finding the little piece of fish. I found it kind of odd that you have no choice of sides...only the pick of the day. That day they were mashed potatoes and green beans which were both mediocre at best. The beans were sweet for some reason and I thought the potatoes were bagged or boxed but there were larger pieces in there. For dessert bread pudding was ordered and everyone thought it was very good. Overall I'd try it again. read more

My husband Jim and I just got back from a trip to New Orleans and Baton Rouge where we had some really great food and some of the most terrible food I've had. I am going to start with the postive. Roberto's was great! The outside looks like a dilapidated farmhouse and the interior is only slightly better. Even so the restaurant manages to have a rustic charm to it that doesn't take away from the dining experience. If you want to go here, look the place up on their website first. It is deffinitely off the beaten path. (http://www.robertosrestaurant.net/) We ordered several different things and they were all really delicious. Jim had catfish, lightly fried and topped with a cream sauce swimming in mushrooms and shrimp. As if that were not enough on the plate alone (since the portion was generous) it was accompanied by a side salad, a slice of Italian bread, fried okra and mashed potatoes. Now, here in GA when we fry okra we bread it and deep-fry in oil. Roberto's fried okra was rather different. It was not breaded and seemed as if it were sauteed in white wine. Still, it was very good. The salad wasn't anything to write home about but it wasn't bad either. I had the soup of the day which was a wonderful crawfish and corn chowder. Honestly, I have never had a chowder with so much meat in it. There was actually more crawfish than there was corn! I ate this with Jim's salad since green things scare him. Last but not least one of Jim's favorite desserts is bread pudding. It was highly recommended so we got some to go. It was a perfect bread pudding. The bread was just the right amount moist and packed with all of the right flavors. As equally important the sauce atop it did not disappoint. It was a heavy-handed rum sauce rich in butter and very palatable. So we had an entree, a salad, a soup, and a dessert and Roberto's went four for four. Everything was so spot-on. We highly recommend eating here if you are anywhere in the Baton Rouge vicinity. read more

Fried crawfish and spinach salad perfect when I want something a little lighter. I prefer honey mustard on mine to the dressing on menu. Steaks cooked to perfection and deserts to die for.
