Absolute worst customer service and horrible, sloppy workmanship. I came here to get a new suit tailored for my wedding 6 weeks beforehand and left with it I incomplete a mere 4 days out from the wedding! They were incapable of quality workmanship, and incredibly rude. During this process also learned this tailor doesn't do any of his own sewing. He hands it off to two women in the back. Expect some changes from whatever he pins or chalks on your garments you while there, in addition to everything else. At every turn there was an issue. I have a 48 inch chest but a 38 inch waist, so while I don't wear suits often I am accustomed to/know from the onset work needs to be done. Every tuck or sinch or adjustment left some other area of the jacket or pants fitting incorrectly, or equally as bad rippled and bunched up. The tailor was unable to fix any of these resultant issues, took offense when asked/I told him I wasn't happy with it, and proceeded to speak with me as if I were a 14 year old, talking over me, not listening to my concerns, and talking down to me. I also was searching for a vest made in a light gray color nobody seemed to have, but here I was told "no problem," they could absolutely find the fabric and custom make it for me. It all seemed to good to be true, and wouldn't you know it was. I brought him a vest as an example of the style I wanted, he took his measurements, and I left expecting a call back in a weeks time. Not only did the tailor take a month to find the fabric, but when he did he cut the vest incorrectly, then proceeded to talk down to me and tell me he knew the measurements + I was wrong. After hours of back and forth with him, multiple visits, and dragging my mother in-law to the shop, the vest ended up more ill fitting than before. We met across the parking lot at the suit shop where he finally saw the vest he was supposed to me matching in style and admitted he was wrong. We then set out on salvaging the fit. In the end I was forced to tell him because of the fit, I wouldn't be able to wear it as-is in my wedding. At this point he got even more confrontational, telling me what did I want for it being that he was giving it to me for free (keep in mind he admitted to cutting it wrong!), and telling me he didn't want to work on it. We parted ways and I'll never go back. He clearly was not up to the task of what he claimed he could do. Lack of skill, attention to detail, care, who knows. He tried to make good at the end by not charging me for what he had done up to that point...I'd rather pay for quality work than get something done poorly for free as a consultation. It's too late to have anything else but basic fixes done before my wedding. This has irreparably damaged and changed the look/attire of my wedding, and the photos to come. I came here as a reference from a friend for my bridesmaid dress. I was so pleased with how my dress fit afterwards I had come 4 more times for other dresses! It was about a year or so later that it came time for my Wedding Dress - I was so nervous because it was a big deal to have an alteration on a wedding dress and I was making quite a bit changes to the dress. We added lace not originally a part of the dress. We added a sequence belt, straps and jewelry to the back of the dress along with a low cut/ open back look... Not only were my nerves calmed but Robert went above and beyond my expectations! We kept an open dialogue of what I "looking" for the dress to become. I've had quite a few things done by Robert. Two leather jacket sleeve shortening. One was my husbands old high school varsity jacket that is massive on him still (his mom thought he was still growing I guess)! Both were flawless and now fit me perfectly. First time coming here, and I had my new interview pants hemmed. Robert is very nice! I was in and out within 5 minutes. I picked up my pants in 2 days, and the hem was even. The price was reasonable as well. I have one negative critique. I came in twice after dropping of the pants: one to re-measure the pants with different shoes and the second for pick up. Both times, one of the ladies couldn't find my pants and searched the whole store for a while...Therefore, I think it is a bit disorganized. I bought myself a perfectly man made Brazilian Butt, but when getting a wedding dress my round butt would not fit in my size dress so I bought one two sizes bigger, I explained my situation and Robert told me he could tighten my dress to fit. I went In to get an estimate for my wedding dress, I had been quoted $500 from a different alteration place (I could have bought myself Botox with that much And redone my whole face) I was expecting to be charged about the same, but I wasn't, not even close to half of that, I was quoted $150. Robert is a warlock, and his craft is the dark art of alterations. This is the best alteration place to go to; as they produce magical results with the work they conduct. I had a hole in a very thin cashmere sweater that I thought for sure couldn't be repaired; Upon receiving the sweater back, I couldn't even tell there had ever been a hole there. I have literally never had a worse customer service experience. Robert practically yelled at me on the phone when I informed him that his staff measured me wrong. I had paid extra for a bridesmaid dress I ordered online with custom measurements based on their measurements of me. The dress ended up being several sizes too large. I asked for a discount to cover the cost of the mistake. I was already paying them to tailor the dress to fit me after the dress was ordered. When I mentioned this to Robert he yelled at me, not stopping to let me respond, and I ultimately hung up on his tirade!!! The whole event cost me $100 than it should if they measured correctly. My entire family has been going to Robert for over 20 years. I can't believe his disrespect of such a loyal customer. read more

Robert was very rude when I asked him to fix their mistake. I purchased a suit for my upcoming wedding and wanted to get the sleeves shortened and the pants hemmed. I researched a few places at Yelp and decided to go to Roberts. I was willing to drive the 30 or so miles from my place to here due to the good reviews and wanting my wedding suit to be well tailored. When I first met with Robert, everything was ok. We discussed what I wanted done to the suit and he was friendly and professional. I left my suit with him and came back about a week later. When I came back to pick up the suit, I tried it on. The length was just right, as we discussed. However, when I looked at the sewing that was done to the shortened sleeves, I noticed that it was not very secure. I showed him the problem and he said they will fix it. A couple of minutes later he came back and said it's fixed. I paid and left. While putting the suit away in the car, I decided to check out their work again. When looking at it further, their quick fix really did not do much. The sewing was still very loose and not secure. I took the suit back to Robert's and showed it to him again. This time, he angrily accused me of pulling on the sewing hard and that suits are not to be treated like jeans. I explained to him that I was not pulling at the sewing at all and that I was merely checking their work. The whole time, he did not want to listen to me and kept talking over me. I was civil and calm throughout the whole thing. Robert on the other hand, was clearly heated and accusing. Regardless, he took the suit back and told me to come back 30 minutes later. When I came back to pick up the suit, he showed me the fix and I left. I really, really wanted to like this place. But I have never been treated in this manner by any business before. This place is probably fine for small fixes but for important jobs, such as a wedding suit alteration, I would not recommend it at all. I am hoping that Robert improves his customer service skills. read more

Yelp is definitely wrong on this one. Took my suit jacket and pants here to be altered for a very important event. After taking quick measurements, I was on my way. When I picked up my suit, the pants were completed adequately, but the jacket had not been let out at all. As the event was in two days and extremely important, I simply did not have any confidence in Robert's Alterations. I took it to a different tailor, Arsen's European Tailoring. It was here when I began to realize the process a competent will go through. My pants were measured to fit in far more detail and my jacket lining was actually opened up, so they could tell me on the spot, how much could be let out. Instead of just letting out x all over, the tailor took the time to tailor the fit to me. Oh and the price was the same and completed in one day, in time to save my butt! If you want a Sears quality experience I recommend Robert's Alterations, if you actually care about quality work take your business elsewhere. read more

The girl working at the front was very rude, when I asked if there were any other ways to fix the zipper of the jacket she seemed unwilling to listen or negotiate. She tapped on my arm twice and pointed to the door saying "that's the only way and only price" as if she doesn't want to do the work for me so I left. Clearly they don't know how to do business. I would give a zero if I could. In short, Robert's made my $1000 suit look like its picked up from the dumpster. Bought my first $1000 huge boss suit. Instead of having it tailored at the department store where I bought the suit from, I decided to trust yelp reviews and let Robert's do the job. Big mistake ever. I had to tell them to fix my suit the second time because they actually made the fit worse. There were stitches in the pants when they let me try it on, as the threads were pulled. The sleeves are not the same length and the shoulders were uneven. (My body is very symmetric). At first I thought it just wasn't pressed well so I had my dry cleaner to press it for me again. But the wrinkles in shoulder area wouldn't go away, so I looked at the inside. Oh my, the stitches were not straight and it was all messed up. The pants are uneven as well, not to mention it sags. I knew something was wrong but I paid the money (very expensive) and walked away. I refused to let Robert and the lady that works there ruin my suit even more. This is the first time yelp has failed me. Big time. I am paying another tailor to fix my suit the best he can. (Even though he said some mistakes could not be reversed) read more

I have a favorite dry cleaners by my mom's house. She also does hemming, but I only send the easy ones to her so that it's quick and easy. However, this last time, I got a pair of really nice jeans that I wanted to hem a certain way and a certain length. I heard about Robert's Alterations from my friend in the previous review, and decided to try it. The place is small, situated in the McDonald's complex on Bristol. I walked in on a Saturday, and did not get to meet Robert. The lady working there measured me after I tried on my pants, and although she did not speak English well, the transaction went easily enough. She also let me pick what day I want to pick it up. I said Monday although I knew that they closed on Sundays. [I just wanted to see how fast they can be]. Monday afternoon, I walk in and Robert was there. My pants were done and they fit perfectly. The regular hem cost $10 and an original hem is $20, which is a bit costly, but he does a great job. I had forgotten that I mentioned the place to my friend the night before. He needed a suit tailored to perfection for his wedding. He was in the dressing room when I arrived, so I have yet to see what that results in. There will be an update for the suit! read more

Robert always does a great job. I've brought my coats in to get them taken in cuz I'm just so damn small. I tried once doing it myself, but I gave up & brought it to Robert. He doesn't charge much anyway & he accepts credit cards. The place could use new carpet, but what for...to then have to charge more & only for the place to look a little nicer...there's no need. He does ask for a deposit when you leave your garments. Check out his website for a coupon. It will save you a bit. He's open almost every day of the week. He's just closed every other Sun. so you'll have to call first to see if he's open, & on Sun. when he's there, he usually closes around 3pm. read more

So I finally got around to trying out this place! Being a shorty I need everything altered. I am in search of the perfect alteration place. I've known about Robert's for a while, but I was just too lazy to drive out here when I can just go a few blocks away from my place for other places. I go in on a Saturday & I meet Robert! He's super nice & already knows what needs to be done without me saying anything. Most places just have you try things on, pin & mark everything & tell you when it'll be done. Since Robert was so friendly I knew I could trust him with my clothes. He's very professional & you can tell he knows what he's doing. The only catch is he's pretty pricey. But I guess you get what you're paying for. When I picked up my items it was quality work. If I ever need to entrust certain precious items to someone good, I'll go to him. I had a simple alteration--needed to move two hook & eyes to adjust the size of my Donna Karan dress. I could have done it myself but it was not a cheap dress so I left it up to the "professionals." Instead of taking my dress in, they made it larger but offered to fix it on the spot. Unfortunately, they screwed up a second time by moving one hook and eye back to it's original place and took in the other side which created a strange overlap and scrunched the dress in a place that shouldn't be scrunched. "Perhaps it's designed to be like that." Seriously? Donna Karan did not intend for weird scrunches and strange overlaps--sorry. I left without a resolution. I needed a tailor to shorten my coat sleeves and to hem my pants. I had just bought a new expensive suit for a wedding, and I didn't know where to go. I checked out Yelp, and the reviews on this place were very high. I decided to give it a shot. Before letting Robert alter my wedding suit, I gave him two old pairs of pants, and two other suit jackets. He asked me to try it on, and he made some markings on the clothes. I was in and out of the shop in around 5 minutes. I came back to the shop in about four days, and after noticing that my clothes were tailored flawlessly, I gave him my wedding suit. Again, he marked it up, and I was out of the shop quickly. I came back a week later, and my wedding suit was perfect. I really like this place because the prices seem reasonable, the service is fine, and the tailoring seems good. Robert charged me exactly as listed on the shop's website, and he honored my coupon. Been meaning to add this awhile ago..... So my 16 year old son went to pick up his suit slacks on a Monday because good ole Dad here said it would be ready then....WRONG! It was supposed to be a Wednesday....Oops! Well Robert told my son to wait a few minutes while he hemmed his slacks, on the spot. What a guy! I mean he could have told my son to come back and treated him like a kid as many adults do to young people. None of this happened and, in fact, Robert even personally called me to thank me for the nice review I had previously written. I told him it was the least I could do. I don't mind spending a few minutes doing so if it helps my fellow Yelpers decide on supporting a great business. Robert's is definitely one of them! Robert's work is on par with other alteration places. But he is very disorganized and his communication is poor. On two separate occasions he promised me a date to pickup and when I show up it is not ready. And both times he failed to notify me of the delay till I drove half an hour away and showed up at the shop. I would suggest going elsewhere for your alterations. read more

My close friend was getting married yesterday and as I was zipping up my bridesmaid dress the zipper malfunctioned and I was freaking out! I yelped a last minute alterations and thank GOD I found Roberts alterations! I called to see how long it would take and he said he had to see the dress first but typically 30 min to an hour. After seeing the review from another customer who was in the store while I was having this experience, I'd like to further clarify- when I arrived ANOTHER couple was there to pick up a suit and after about 10 failed attempts to run his credit card, was told to "go get lunch and come back later" since the gentleman covering the desk didn't know how to collect payment. The couple left, then I was given my clothes. I was told by Robert himself at the time of drop off that the items would all be steamed (they were for a wedding). I would have happily taken them somewhere else if I knew this wasn't a service they offer. Yes, after now two trips back to pick up my items after they were not ready AND were not steamed, I was upset (as I was leaving out of town the next morning). I offered my credit card MANY times and knowing that they didn't know how to operate the machine, INSISTED they write down my CC number as a solution, so I could at least take my clothes (again after waiting over 30 min for Robert to return). That wasn't acceptable to them , so I was forced to wait even longer. **that must be when the customer in previous review arrived** I would like to add that after I finally paid and left, Robert called my personal cell phone THREE separate times and would yell something at me, then hang up. I was in disbelief. I've never seen a business run this way. I wasn't even going to mention this, but on top of everything, the stitch he put in my dress, came out within 5 min of me wearing the dress, so I had to pin it for the wedding. read more
