The owners son screamed at me for requesting a refund after they failed to complete the job..... I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience with Grace Tailoring, located across from South Coast Plaza. If I could give zero stars, I would. Worst tailoring experience I've ever had. I recently moved to the area and needed a reliable tailor for a huge music video shoot. I brought in two gowns for alterations with a strict deadline of three days, which they confirmed was "absolutely no problem." They said they were "easy jobs" * One gown needed to be taken in slightly from the back. * The other, a beaded gown, had a small hole on the hip that needed to be sewn. On the day of my video shoot, I picked up my gowns, only to find that the beaded gown was completely untouched, except for several safety pins still in place--meaning they charged me just to hang it up and give it back without doing anything! My other gown was taken in way too tight, making it unwearable. This left me in a panic on the day of my shoot, forcing me to spend additional money on a new dress last-minute because they failed to complete the job they were paid $200 to do. (Which by the way they didn't share that price at the time but instead sprung it upon me at pickup) I immediately called them, and they told me to come in for a refund. However, when I arrived, they changed their story and only offered me $30 back--a complete slap in the face after their failure to do the job. When I refused to accept that, the owner's son became hostile, unprofessional, and outright aggressive, screaming at me that they wouldn't refund my money and that it was my fault for requesting a rush order--despite them confirming they could do it on time. Things escalated when he insulted me, yelled at his own mother to make me leave the store, and even called me "trash" for demanding a full refund for a service they never provided..... It's clear that this is the way they make money off of people. I have never been treated so poorly by a business, let alone one that failed to do the job I paid for. They scammed me out of $200, wasted my time, ruined my music video shoot, and then treated me like garbage for calling them out on it. The mother seemed like she wanted to do what was right yet the son urged her to do the opposite . I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and I highly recommend that no one trust this place with their garments. They lack professionalism, integrity, and basic customer service. With business practices like this, I know for sure they will stay open for much longer. Do yourself a favor--take your tailoring needs elsewhere. Grace, Brian, and Rick are a wonderful team with a great eye for detail. As the go-to tailoring shop for many of the designer boutiques in South Coast Plaza, you can trust their expertise on high end garments. I often bring in rare old designer pieces for alterations--usually 10+ years old Saint Laurent--and they've been treated with care every time. Sometimes there's delays in the turn around time, but I'm very understanding of that due to how many boutiques and private clients they work with. I would highly recommend thinking twice before using this tailor's services. The owner's son was extremely rude and disrespectful. He screamed at me and refused to give me my dresses back unless I could prove that I had called twice and left messages, and unless I paid $60 for "wasting their time." This fee was never discussed or agreed upon. Being treated with aggression and having my personal belongings withheld was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. The owners son tried to fight me today! I have been going to this family business for over 10 years. I know Grace, her husband and one of her sons who used to manage their business in Aliso Viejo. Today I went into the store to get a cheap suit jacket for a charity event tailored. I asked before being fitted how much. The son Rick, who I've never seen there before, said he didn't know. So we got fitted with a tailor, exchanged some niceties and I asked him again for at least a ballpark. He couldn't but promised me his brother would be in soon and would let me know. Rick text me directly and told me it would be $400, but they'd do it for $320. While I appreciated the discount, it was way too much for a cheap jacket. I asked for a way to discount and ultimately he said no. I said "this sucks, probably won't be coming back." Then it got weird. He began texting me asking why I was taking it personally to which I replied that I take my time personally and hate wasting it. If they could've given me a quote as requested, I could've saved myself a return trip. But then it escalated from there. I went to pick up the jacket and saw Grace outside. I began telling her how atrocious and unprofessional her son's behavior was when he came out hot and started yelling, then threatening. He squared up with me and threatened to punch me. We exchanged words and his mommy "held him back". He proceeded to pretend to attack me as his little mother "held him back" as I walked away. Not going to pretend that I wasn't yelling also at this point, but what in the world. This was insane and frankly, he should be fired immediately and taken to therapy. I've never experienced something this dramatic with any business ever before. read more

I initially was recommended this place by the Burberry shop in South Coast Plaza. I had a weird stain on a trench and was hesitant to get it cleaned by a random dry cleaner. The Burberry shop mentioned Grace does all their tailoring and some dry cleaning and to check them out. I brought the coat there and they did the best they could to get the stain out and asked if I was OK with the work. I decided to not get it cleaned again fearing that they would remove the color. Because of my positive experience with my Burberry trench, I decided to bring in 5 pairs of pants and they did a great job taking all five in. The price was reasonable so no issues there. This place is amazing. Grace's son is a good guy. He is attentive and fastidious when it comes to perfecting the right fit. I've brought 3 shirts here, totaling over $3,000.00 and they did an incredible job. The timing is great too. I was able to get my Versace silk shirt back in a Saturday after dropping it off on a Wednesday! Right on time for my vacation. Grace Tailoring was recommended to us by a friend for gown alterations. Grace was a lovely person and definitely knew what she was doing. All of the appointments went well until the end. After picking up the gowns, one of the gowns were still long. We spoke with a Lyda who made an appointment for us to return and she assured us that either her or Grace will be there to assist us with the adjustment. We showed up at the appointment but neither of them were there. Grace's husband was handling the front desk and was of no help. He was rude and had no useful solutions to the matter at hand. We explained to him that we had an appointment and his answer was, "well no one is here, come back later", which we explained cannot be done as the gown needed fixing for an event in a few days. His tone was ill-mannered. Needless to say we were annoyed as we had paid a lot of money for the alterations to only end up having to adjust things on our own. This is a pity as Grace was a wonderful person to work with, just not her husband. Definitely will not be a repeat customer or be recommending this place to anyone due to the unpleasant customer service. read more

A jacket from Spain had a beautiful cuff area and they adjusted the length from the shoulder of the sleeve to maintain the integrity of the cuff and it was perfect - impressive! So Grace Tailoring took over Spatola's Tailoring not so long ago which is really saddening. It's so hard to find a good and trustful tailor nowadays. I thought I would give her a try since I'm pretty sure Benny wouldn't leave his shop for just anyone. The place looks like it got renovated which is nice but everything is still the same. Grace was pretty nice. I just had a simple little ripped seam on the sleeves of my blazer. It was $10 and it would take a little less than a week. The hole was less than an inch so I thought it was a little over price for a somewhat simple job. Came back to pick up my blazer and had a nice conversation with Grace. I was a little disappointed that she just gave me my item instead of taking the time to show me what has been done and to see if I'm satisfied or if there was anything else I needed. It wasn't like she was busy. So far it's mediocre. The fix was flawless. It takes a little more for me to be a loyal customer when it comes to fixing my clothes so I'll probably give her another chance but not with one of my nicer clothes. read more

I ran into Grace Tailoring after it took over for Spatola Tailoring when Benny died, sadly, from lung cancer. But not much has changed since she kept the same crew that ran Spatola. I have done business with both, and I think Grace has been absolutely wonderful! So far, she has resown some slacks for me and refitted my favorite vest. Her measurements and workmanship have been outstanding, and it was all done quickly! I would just come back the next day to get my slacks, and the vest, she finished it for me the same day. This was all done in a very friendly and welcoming manner - Grace was super nice and unlike some small business owners out there, will not cheat her clients with arbitrary pricing - I trust her with my clothes 100%. I am planning to give her dry cleaning a shot, as well. If her dry cleaning is anything like her tailoring, then I will be very content with Grace's services. read more

I can't thank Grace enough. I'm a couple months late for this review but Grace saved me and my couch. I came by her place at around 10am on a Saturday with two torn white couch cushions. I was hosting a party that night and these cushions were torn at the seams. I was ready to ditch them to the curb but I thought I'd see if anything could be done. There was not much excess fabric left to work with but Grace said she would do her best and took them in. A couple of hours latter she called me back in to pick them up. I swear on my life I could not figure out where the original rips were. She did such an amazing job... the cushions look like brand new. Thank you so much, Grace! read more

Initially I had some shirts fitted but later took back suits and pants. Service is great. Turn around on alterations is average. I was a huge fan of Spatola Tailoring when it was recommended to me by friends many, many moons ago. So I was very bummed to hear that Benny had passed away several years back and that Spatola was no longer here -- I was a loyal and frequent customer of his after all. It's so tough to find a good tailor that listens to how you like to wear clothes. Fortunately, in its place came Grace Tailoring. Ever since the first day I came to the shop (finding the name on the sign out front had changed to my shock), Grace has been nothing but wonderful. Having gotten my clothes tailored for many years, I knew what was comfortable for me as far as alterations. Grace has succeeded in listening to my needs, how i like my clothes to fit, while still offering advice on how something could be improved or telling me otherwise on things that isn't necessary or advisable and saving me money in the process. I've tried many alteration places (mostly on short notice emergencies) who doesn't quite listen to your requests -- sometimes steering you only to what might quickest for them to do, doesn't understand what you're trying to accomplish, or when you tell them if doesn't feel right or fits awkwardly, they run off reasons rather than solutions (I've actually had one tell me that one of my arms is longer than the other which is why the sleeves felt uneven after I articulated that it didn't hang right...uhhh...well, even more reason why you should correct it so that i can feel the cuff hit at the same spot in both hands no?! Because if I feel one sleeve hit at my wrist, and the other hit past that, then it wasn't correctly *tailored" to me -- which I think is the point of tailoring). Grace Tailoring has done a fantastic job with the all the stuff I've brought in to her, most recently a tuxedo i bought at a nice local store that does the tailoring but didn't quite get the fit on me right. Rather that arguing, I took it as it is and brought it to Grace! I basically paid twice for that tuxedo to get altered, but I knew Grace would get right what the other place didn't! While I don't go as regularly to Grace as I used to in years prior (I think at one point I was visiting them once a month for a year, but I guess I don't buy clothes as often now to need alterations) I still go here for the important stuff and HIGHLY recommend her business! I live all the way in Long Beach, but I don't mind the drive to come here. I've never written a review on Yelp for anything, but felt compelled for this small little shop! I was super hesitant about getting my maid of honor dress taken in, but since the bridal shop ordered my dress too big...I had no choice. They sensed my reservations walking in the door, but were super helpful and had my dressed finished in a week. I picked up a dress that not only fit perfectly, but had also been pressed so it was wedding ready! Their cost was significantly less than who the bridal salon recommended I use. Took in a dress and a pair of lined wool pants. Estimate from the young girl was $20 for the dress to be taken up in the shoulders and $30 for the trousers hem and taken in at the waist. Okay that is reasonable. When I picked up the clothes from Grace, the bill was $70.00. $20 for the dress and $50 for the pants (that only cost me $30) awk. Never again. I've been coming to Grace for months now. As a victim to horrible tailoring jobs, its nice to have finally found a place that i have complete faith in. I've brought a plethora of things from Shirts, Pea Coats, Pants to Suits and done a plethora of alterations from hems to shortening a zipper and Grace and her team has been able to give me exactly what i want with a great turnaround time. I personally believe their pricing is completely understandable given the level of craftsmanship they put into their alterations. Not only because he was an amazing tailor, but because he was one of the most genuine and kind people I ever met. Needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive going back her when Grace took over. i went in for my first time with a strong reccommendation from a friend. It was risky taking in a suit for my first visit but i went for it. They did an incredible job in a timely fashion. When i went home i tried the suit on one more time and decided i needed it to be slightly more fitted. wasn't their fault, i foolishly agreed on the fit of the suit before they originally worked on it. i went back the following day expecting to pay for another round of tailoring and Grace happily told me it would be taken care of free of charge. They not only take pride in what they do, the satisfaction of their customers is full priority. i will most definitely take all of my future alterations and tailoring here. read more

grace tailoring helped me out with hemming my bridesmaid dress - it's a delicate chiffon with multiple layers of lining - she had it done in a week for $50. when i first took the dress in, it was pretty snug around the waist/hips, and she mentioned that she might need to cut the seams/insert some fabric to prevent it from looking like i had a tail from bunching issues.... i promised her i had a little over two weeks until the wedding and that i was certain i was going to exercise a ton. she didn't push me to reconsider (giving her more labor, and more $$), and just let me make my decision (and possssssibly have to deal with the consequence of a crazy rush job if i didn't get myself working out!!) after picking the dress up, it fit perfectly!! so pleased i didn't decide to insert anything, but even more pleased that she did a fabulous job without being insistent =D will definitely be back for any other alterations needs!! read more

This place used to be great when Benny owned it, but not anymore. I got 3 jeans hemmed and the stitching didn't even look completely straight. They messed up on my skirt so I had to get it redone. Then they stapled a tag onto my Theory skirt. I don't think anything should ever be stapled to clothing. Not coming back. read more

i never thought i would find someone who can tailor jeans to length/reusing the original jeans hem better than spatola, but grace tailoring does just that, i loved spatola tailoring and went there for 10 years religiously, so sad to hear bennie passed on, i was glad to find grace tailoring as my new tailor, she is the best i have found for re-using original jeans hems when shortening them, she is also the tailor of record for high-end south coast plaza dress clothes brands including prada and others, like everything...you get what you pay for...she is skilled and does high quality work, give her a try, you won't be disappointed with the quality of her work read more
