I made reservations months ago to have a place to eat before a concert downtown. I am glad we did because people who were walking up were turned away. But it was underwhelming in all aspects. We got there and the place was packed with nowhere to sit. I had a reservation so I told them and I guess there is some open seating? So the hostess went to a table and asked the people there to move so we could sit. It was so awkward. There was only three of us and we sat at this huge table for five people and had all this extra space while people were squished. Then there was a sign out front that said a food wait would be 60-90 minutes but we were there and willing to wait. Once we sat, the server came over and he was so overwhelmed and we felt rushed. If it's this busy when there are concerts or events in town then wouldn't they be more staffed? We ordered drinks and I got a cocktail of the menu. Absolutely awful. The presentation looked like grape koolaid with ice and it tasted about the same. If it would have been a different time and place I probably would have sent the drink back. We ordered and were reminded again it would be an hour wait for food. The food actually came out in 30 minutes and that is why I pulled this rating up to 2 stars. It was accurate but pretty standard hotel food. Would I come here again? No. But it served its purpose for the evening. read more

Omelets in particular are pretty strong on their game, and the breakfast potatoes and bacon, while not exceptional, are a good companion. French toast isn't bad either. The hotel is over 100 years old, and the stain glass windows add to the overall aesthetic of the bar. Mediocre at best Pros: the staff was extremely friendly and the cocktails were very good. That's about it for the pros. Cons: the brussels sprouts were undercooked and smothered with fatty bacon. It's very easy to make food. Taste good when it's smothered with fat, the goal is to make food taste good and still keep it reasonably healthy. The brussels sprouts were definitely not that. The salmon was overcooked and dry. The crust was just OK, nothing special. very underwhelming. The famous butter cake was quite good, but nothing too special. The butternut squash purée was essentially a butter sauce that had broken. The plate it was all served on was actually chipped, too. The gnocchi texture was odd, almost leathery, as was the bacon. The whole mess was flavorless, just weird textures. Dessert menu description: TAHITIAN CRÈME BRÛLÉE $9.00 rich creamy vanilla custard topped with brûléed caramel, whip cream and berries What I got: The crème was simultaneously undercooked and overcooked. Frankly, Robie's earned three stars just for being open. After trying multiple local spots and being told "Kitchen is closed" or closed altogether, we landed here and were happy to hear they were indeed open like their online hours said! Upon arrival, Janice promptly welcomed us, gave us menus, and checked in after the food was served. The food was not fantastic but solid and filling nonetheless- we ordered the flat iron steak and a Caesar salad with chicken. Ambiance was pretty chill and there were only 5 other people in the venue, so decent for a quiet dinner. I'm from out of town so maybe I'm missing something, but there seems to be a general inconsistency in posted hours and real ones among St. Louis downtown restaurants. I perfectly understand and respect the decision to not open a kitchen past certain hours, but do your customers a favor and say so- don't even allow an expectation to form then send them away disappointed. Went in for a good 'ol bowl of oatmeal but I don't do breakfast bar buffet style oats so I grabbed a table and decided on a pancake - à la carte. They came as a three stack but I only wanted 1 blueberry, no butter, no syrup and the chef was gracious enough to oblige. Pancake was superb! Nice and fluffy and tasty and moist and succulent and ok...you get the gist. Service was super pleasant. Restaurant was just as chic and comfortable as the rest of the hotel. This place is gorgeous. We got the best service from Heather. Chef, Adam Shaw really out did himself. We had a little bit of everything. This place has ambiance. So chill and inviting. It felt like some place you go as a regular and I loved it!

The food was not great. Ordered the Cary Grant Bowl and the chicken was very dry and over done. The rest of the dish was just ok. The pita and hummus was good (hard to mess it up) and the cocktails were okay as well. Everything is on the pricier end for what it was but I guess that can be expected when eating at a hotel.
