I went here for my first real piercing and it was a great experience. The staff are all kind, genuine, and outgoing and it provides for a very comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. They answered every question I had and made sure I was comfortable. Stopped in last weekend to get my nose pierced. I'd read here on Yelp that Jo is the wo-man to do any piercings and boy were ya'll right! I waited maybe 20 mins for my turn. (I think? I was kinda nervous so it's hard to say. I may have lost track of time) Since their piercing policy is walk in in only, no appointments, I felt the wait was very reasonable, either way. The waiting area was pretty full! The staff at the desk was really nice and seemed on top of things. As mentioned in other reviews they're not judgmental in the least, so I felt really comfortable coming in for my first real piercing (aside from my basic ear lobes). Jo is a soft spoken woman with an equally soft touch. I will say that a nostril piercing hurts more than "tweezing a hair" as I was told, lol, but it's not horribly unbearable. We talked through the procedure, and it was over really quickly. Jo very kindly dabbed away the involuntary tears that escaped the eye on that side of my face. She also let me rest for a minute before getting up. Overall I felt extremely comfortable in Jo's abilities, the cleanliness of the environment, and the care instructions that I was given. My experience getting pierced here was a dream. The vibe of the shop is immediately positive when I walked in, which made me feel super safe and eased my nerves. Jo was my piercer and they were 1) very Covid safe and aware 2) extremely positive and made it clear that they wouldn't do anything without informing me first and 3) made it an overall very empowering and positive experience. Terrible service! I purchased jewelry ($60) and paid to have it changed out by a piercer. The piercing site is well-established, being over 20 years in place, and had no swelling. The piercer selected a very long post for the jewelry, something I did not notice until I'd left the shop. The post is so long that the jewelry (worn in the flat section of ear) turns sideways when I sleep and cuts into my skin. I called the shop and they were completely unhelpful, basically intimating that I did not know what I was talking about and stating that the only option they could offer was that I pay for another post and refitting (and possibly they MIGHT offer a slight discount). I spoke directly with the owner of the shop and her attitude was basically, "screw you". read more

So happy with my experience at Robot piercing. I went in a couple months ago to get my nose pierced. Jo did a great job and made me feel so comfortable. She was super thorough explaining the process and aftercare. Then, hooked on piercings, I went back in to have a third piercing added to both my earlobes. Zack did my earlobes and was super friendly and easygoing as well. And now I have been in for my third visit to have a flat piercing added to my collection of ear piercings. So I went in about a month ago. All I wanted was a new nose hoop. I already have one in, and I decided I wanted a second hoop next to it. It was pierced with a stud, but I went to robot to buy a hoop for after it healed. First of all, I waited about 30-40 ish minutes just to TALK to someone. I was acknowledged, but then had to wait in line behind a bunch of people who were there for check ups and stuff. All I wanted was to buy a ring and leave... Second, when I finally did get up there, I asked her to just match the one I already had in my nose.i wanted to leave so badly, I failed to look at it until I got home. When I did, I realized the gold didn't match, and it was way thicker than the one in my nose. I understand that you get a larger size during the healing process, but I was going to wait until it healed to put it in...and it was $70. When I finally put the hoop in (I promise you, nose totally healed), it became irritated since the size was larger than the stud it was pierced with. I looked like an idiot with two mismatched hoops in my nose. I finally went to Claire's and bought 2 matching hoops for $10 and my nose is better. What a waste of $70. read more

Austin Rose is the best!!! I was a tattoo virgin and was ambitious with a 3 session leg piece. Trash polka -- Austin nailed it. He was thoughtful, collaborative, and able to take the lead after hearing some of my ideas. One of my biggest fears of getting a tattoo was not being happy with it at completion and living with some regret. Austin is so talented, it is an honor to have his artistry displayed. This was an amazing gift from my boyfriend who has many tattoos by Austin and was absolutely correct when he told me to trust the artist because he knows what he is doing. The WORST customer service I have experienced in a long time! Please don't schedule appointments here. Go literally anywhere else! Scheduled an appointment for a nose piercing for my son - it was definitely my fault that I forgot proper ID so they weren't able to pierce my son. I already felt terrible when I realized my mistake, but upon leaving I received an email saying I was a "no show" for my appointment and that they were going to charge me a cancellation fee. I called to ask if there's any way it could be waived - at that point we were still planning to reschedule - and she gave me a snarky lecture about how that's their policy. It's my son's birthday and was already very disappointed, but rubbing salt in the wound was not a good look on their part. NEVER GOING BACK! And you shouldn't either. read more

I came in to change out the jewelry on a cartilage piercing I've had for over a decade. I've changed the jewelry out many times over the years and have never had any issues with it. It healed totally fine after I got it. I'm not sure what exactly happened when she changed out my new stud, but it was really painful. There was a loud click when she put the back on and it felt like she pinched my ear. It was incredibly painful for days, before I finally took it out, and my ear just started bleeding- a lot. I let it chill for a few days and put my old earring back in and it's been totally fine since. Pretty bummed to have wasted $40. Not sure if she put it in badly/ pinched my ear (which is what it felt like) or maybe the new stud was bigger than my old one so it ripped my hole (but you would think she would have explained that and warned me)! read more

Recently got my nose pierced by Jo, and was delighted by the experience. The prices were super reasonable: $65 total for a cute opal stud. It would have been $55 with just a plain metal ball so don't be afraid to get something pretty because that price difference is negligible. The pain factor wasn't a big deal. What hurt worst was my eye watering. The needle itself felt like tweezing a bunch of nose hairs at once, and then was done pretty quickly. It tickled a bit for the rest of the day but has been pretty good. It's tender if I bump that nostril, but it's not red or swollen. The shop interior is cute and clean, everyone is really friendly and chill. They even gave me sea salt at the end of my visit for the salt soaks I have to do for my piercing (been doing them religiously, thank you ladies). I actually feel sad that I don't want anything else pierced right now because I'd love an excuse to go back and hang again. read more

came here with my best friend to get pierced about a year ago. i thought the piercing went well until 2 months ago when my piercing migrated and almost destroyed my nipple because the piercer pierced me way too deep and I only discovered this after going to a piercing specialist. They didn't use a clamp on me as well and overall I am really sad because I thought my experience went well until i had to take it out because it was too painful and until i had someone else look at it. now I can't get it repierced because it was done so terribly. Need a piercing done in Portland? GO TO ROBOT! For about an hour I called around town and visited shops to find a reasonably priced but not sketchy piercer. I called Robot about pricing and hours and knew right away they were the place to go. It's a bright and warm environment. I didn't feel like I was in a dirty underground cave like in other places. The woman who works in the front (who greeted us and assisted with paperwork and aftercare) was really helpful. She was able to answer all my questions and concerns. Jo pierced my nose. She was so professional and friendly. She makes you feel comfortable, safe, and well informed at every step. Can't recommend this place enough. Oh yeah, and the piercing looks great! Clean, professional. I did have the piercer (got cartilage piercings) let me know b/c of the morphology of my ear, only a conch piercing would be viable. I asked for auricular piercing.Since then, I have had multiple other piercings that have been just fine, no concerns. I think perhaps the approach should be discussing the risks vs. benefits, vs. telling the customer: no. This just won't work on you. I am a healthy non-smoker, there is no reason for it not to work. In fact, my multiple auricular piercings (which I had done elsewhere as a conch is not really what I wanted) are all doing just fine. In sum, authoritative approach. Went here on a whim a couple months ago. Was grateful they could do my nipple piercings on a whim. It wasn't until my swelling had gone down that I noticed my left piercing was done wrong and I will require a longer bar just for it. And when my right nipple was being pierced they hesitated about halfway through. Even my friend that was with me during the process commented on the hesitation and as painful as these piercings are on principal to stall mid-piercing was much worse. Wish I could take it back and plan properly for someone to pierce my girls better. But have dealt with it. Not like it can be fixed or like I'd want to go through that pain again. read more

Walking into this establishment, my friends and i had no idea what was to come. We were properly greeted and treated with kindness and respect, but i am writing this review on behalf of my friend who decided to get her nipples pierced by Joe. Joe appeared to be a knowledgeable piercer and was also very kind and helpful. She began to mark my friend for the piercings with a technique i've never seen (my friends and i have all gotten them done, so i know what this looks like), and i thought, and said out loud "that's an interesting technique." She nodded and told me it was a friend of hers who taught her this. After it was all done and we returned home, we had our friend who is also a professional piercer look at them and to our surprise told us they were done completely incorrect. My friend was devastated and in a ton of pain, so she decided to call and ask if there was anything they can do (specifically a refund) Joe refused, and told my friend that she had been piercing long enough and knew what she was doing. My friend dropped 135 dollars on the piercings including a tip, and was left with infected piercings and a horrible taste in her mouth from this establishment. Since they clearly didn't care enough to refund my friend or even apologize for what they did, i am leaving this review for anyone looking into getting anything done here. read more

Went in to get a small Tattoo. They opened at 11 so I stopped in about 11:15. Said they could do a walk in, artist just stepped out. Waited until 11:50 he finally shows Says he doesn't have time (he has a Zupan's bag in his hand). I said I'd been waiting over 1/2 hr, he says he was only gone 10 mins. You can't even walk to Zupan's and back in 10 mins... whatever. Not going back there. So I can't tell you anything about their tattoo work.
