The mushroom burger redeemed the visit after a very disappointing start. After being seated they did not assign someone to wait on us. After asking twice, we finally got some service. Had a couple of appetizers. They were ok. But as mentioned the mushroom burger was really good. read more

Cozy comfortable atmosphere, decent food and awesome drinks. My friends and I felt pampered by the waitstaff (Kate) and the manager, even on a busy night. The smoked bourbon was really good. I had the Tuna Tartare appetizer, my friends had the tuna poke bowl and a salmon sandwich. Delicious. The drinks were during Happy Hour and the price needed to be corrected on our bills, but the error was immediately taken care of. We will return. read more

I recently moved here and was very excited to find a new cocktail bar to go to in the area. Went here for the first time and asked for a double Eagle Rare bourbon neat... $44. A bottle of Eagle Rare doesn't event cost that much. Bummer. Ended up ordering a Manhattan that didn't taste like a Manhattan. Watch your bill like a hawk. First, I ordered a blackberry mezcal martini. I was informed they did not yet have mezcal. Okay weird. I was asked if I wanted to try it with tequila. Blanco or Repasado. I was not informed of any price difference. Price on the menu was $14. When I paid the bill the drink was $21. Additionally, nothing on my bill was rang in properly. We had 3 apple whiskey drinks. They were rang in as aperol spritz's which also were a different price than on the menu. My husband wanted to try the smoked old fashioned. We were NOT informed they were out of the house whiskey they use, and instead upcharged for the whiskey they did use. This time we were not offered a choice, nor again alerted of any price difference. We had already eaten but figured we would try an appetizer. We had the croquettes. There was one left on the plate sitting in front of my husband, and the bus boy came by and just took the plate. Didn't even ask if we were finished. When I went to pay the bill, the tab in the cup in front of me said $74~. I set down my card, and when the bill was returned it was now $100. When I questioned this, and asked if I could see the previous bill so I could understand the difference I was told "I already threw it away and I'm not digging through the trash" I asked to speak with a manager and the manager was open and receptive to my concerns and very easily printed me the previous bill for my review. All in all, look at your tab after every drink. It felt very much like the bartender was defensive and trying to pull one over on us. As someone who has worked in the service industry for quite a long time, these were easy mistakes to correct and really affected our view of the corner bar. We likely we not be back. Especially if that bartender is working. read more

We went here for my birthday celebration and after waiting 15 minutes upon ordering our beverages we had to actually ask for our drinks (including water) and the place was half full. Unfortunately the burger and fries were coke and they forgot our appetizer. I had heard nothing but great things and was excited to try it but sadly was truly disappointed. They have a great outside patio but $80 for cold food and flat Coke isn't worth it. read more

This location has been looking to make a permanent home since it was our local post office 40 years ago. Unfortunately, I'm afraid this one is doomed as well as the previous ones. Let's begin with the positive.... The decor. Period. Moving on, I don't know why it is so difficult to provide basic services at a bar. The first time we went, we were given a menu but told the prices weren't the real prices since they were in the process of printing new menus. Okaaaaay..... Tried a second time to give them the benefit of the doubt. Went early for happy hour. Oh yeah, there wasn't one. We sat at the comfy couch sipping our "second"choice beer. Meanwhile, the manager/owner stood in front of our couch talking to some friends, no joke, with his rear end facing us for over 45 min. Not once turning around to greet his patrons and thank them for coming (especially being new to town). Finally, they have two prices.... One for cash and one for credit. Strange! Overall, will not be back or recommending. Too bad. I was hopeful. read more

My family of 4 were excited to try the newly renovated spot - formerly Penny Black. The atmosphere is great and I really liked the redesign. Service was great, but the food.....was just garbage. Everything we ordered was bad. I ordered the Chicken Piccata and it was so bland and flavorless I asked for Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on it but it barely helped. I ended up giving a lot of it to my kids who like plain noodles. It had gross artichokes which ruined the flavor. Ugh, just don't get it. My husband ordered the fish and chips which he was very excited about but when it came out the batter was not good and the oil used to deep fry the food is gross and left a bad taste in his mouth. It was so gross that he only ate about half of it and we didn't take any leftovers home, which is a big deal for us because we love our leftovers normally. My daughter got the mac & cheese kids meal which honestly was worse than kraft mac & cheese that I could've made at home and the fries were gross and bland and thin and fried in this gross oil. My son ordered the chicken fingers which unfortunately we're also fried in the gross oil and used the same thick bland batter and so they were a bust as well. None of us finished our meals and none of us took any of the food home because we were not interested in eating that gross food ever again. I can't tell you how disappointed we were since we had such high hopes that with new owners and a new menu, that the food might be finally really good, but it was very disappointing unfortunately. We spent a lot of money and I would expect the food to be so much better than it was. The prices demand better, more upscale food. Please replace the oil you use! It's bad. We will try again but only for drinks and apps that aren't fried. read more

The poke tuna bowl ($22) was very disappointing overall, and was definitely not enough to serve as a main course. I ordered a burger (it was OK) with a side salad which consisted of chopped iceberg lettuce (at least the lime dressing was delicious). There were no stouts on the beer menu other than Guinness. The new decor was very classy, but most of the seating consisted of high tops (awkward getting in and out of our seats) and there were no soft furnishings/surfaces to break up the sound, so it was very loud even before the band set up. We could barely communicate amongst ourselves due to the noise. The best part of the evening was our server, Linden, who we enjoyed very much. read more

Nice looking place and bartender was friendly enough. But the drinks were not great. Tried the Mezcal sour and it was cloyingly sweet and unbalanced and served in a martini glass which is annoying. Menu of signature cocktails is pretty generic. 4 variations of old fashioned and the usual espresso martini... seems dated already. Not good enough for $15 a drink. read more

I'm new to Rochester and decided to try out corner bar for drinks with my boyfriend and another couple. It had a very nice ambiance. Our server however was terrible. We had to wait a while for each drink every time we ordered, while the table behind us was getting tended to frequently. We had about two drinks in an hour and a half time span. After waiting forever for our third round of drinks we had ordered, we finally ask for our check because we wanted to go somewhere with better service. She immediately brings it, and I see that our last round of drinks aren't even on the check. I asked her about it, she had completely forgot that we had ordered two more drinks! So I decided to pay and leave. Also when you order a vodka soda, unless the waiter specifies what kind of vodka you want, you get well. Turns out she decided to upgrade us to the nice stuff. We were overcharged, and had terrible service. Might try this place out again, but hopefully we don't get her as our server! read more
