Wow, it's been a hot minute since I last visited the Hearthfire! It was the obvious choice last weekend as we had family in town staying at the Bellwether right next door. So we all met up for a lovely dinner here and the entire experience was fabulous. From our incredibly attentive (and very patient) server to wonderful drinks and tasty food, everything was top notch. We had a reservation (which you can do directly through their website - yay!) and had a couple of minutes to watch the chefs work their magic in the open air kitchen while we waited to be seated. Our server arrived quickly and took our drink orders, then gave us plenty of time (at our request) to enjoy our bevvies and each others company before returning to take our dinner orders. In the meantime, he kept the baskets of their delish butter-and-garlic-imbibed bread coming. Soon, dinner was before us. The Dude and I shared a rotisserie chicken cobb salad and a shrimp appy. Both were fabulous. The rotisserie chicken is smoked and prepped in house, and it was a more than generous portion. The shrimp was good, too, and we topped off the meal with creme brulee. My parents enjoyed their salads, and my son said his burger was quite tasty. We were also impressed that they had locally-brewed Kulshan Bastard Kat on tap. My dad had never tried it before and really enjoyed his pint. Hearthfire was a long ago happy hour staple for me, and I think I'll be back for dinner sooner rather than later! read more

Open, bright, clean space with a beautiful waterfront view. The service was excellent: attentive, friendly, and very accommodating without being overbearing. The food was solid overall. Everything came out hot and fresh. The halibut and chips were well portioned, crispy, and satisfying, and the mussels tasted fresh. It is on the pricier side, but you're clearly paying for the location. Overall, a good spot for seafood with a view. read more

Relaxing dinner here after a busy day. I enjoyed the Cobb salad with chicken. It was a winner with perfectly roasted chicken. My dining companion had jambalaya and said it was delicious, hot, and filling. He also enjoyed the complementary flatbread that looked beautiful and smelled garlicky and savory. The only small down note was the pleasant but distracted service. The wait staff was available, but we had to flag him down if we wanted something that he didn't check on. We got his attention three times during our 75ish minute stay. Still, I recommend this beautiful, super competent restaurant. We'll be back, especially in warmer weather to sit on the waterfront patio. read more

Ambiance was great. Service was acceptable, it wasn't busy the afternoon of May 7th. The Cabernet my wife had was good, she said, my manhattan was delicious. The medium rare hamburger was overcooked, hard and small. My fish sandwich came in two small over breaded pieces on a bun much bigger than the bland fish. Lunch without a tip, $98.00. Last time there I had an overpriced overcooked small chewy steak. We live in Bellingham and won't be back. read more

Hearthfire has been our go-to place in Bellingham for years. Very recently they have substantially cut the serving portions of their meals to about 1/3 of what they were a month ago. The prices have gone up steadily the last couple years and now they are serving child-size plates for top dollar. The service and quality are still OK, but it appears owners have decided to double their profits. Cannot fault the working staff, but owners and managers are driving it in the ground. First time here and what a home-run! The restaurant is beautiful! Upon entering you fell like you are in Hawaii. Lush plants and flowers and water features. The view out the windows towards the bay is spectacular. I enjoyed watching the sailboat out beyond the harbor and watching other boats coming in to dock. The wait staff were friendly and very attentive. I ordered the bbq garlic prawns and would highly recommend them. They do have tails on so just a heads up if you don't like that. They looked well cleaned and deveined. The spice on them was perfect with just enough kick. The homemade garlic flat bread was delicious. For desert I shared the peach cobbler ala mode. The bathroom is even worth mentioning, one of the nicest/cleanest Ive been in. I would even call it a pretty one! We will def go back! read more

Went last night for a anniversary dinner and did the 3 course prefix dinner. Servers were polite and friendly - especially the hostess. Food timing was great and food came out all in a timely fashion and hot even tho I am a very slow eaters. The steak was a bit flavorless and could have used some more butter or flake salt or a marinate. The bread was absolutely delicious - we even took some home Ambiance was very friendly and we got to see the sunset sitting at the windows. Place was not too crowded but had a nice casual buzz. They put candles on our dessert as a sweet touch. Had a lovely time and will return next time in town read more

I'm giving 4 stars because the manager pulled off a great save right at the buzzer, because at first service was worse than you'd expect at an all-night Denny's. Not just that he disappeared for lengths at a time, (I get it, places get busy), but when he did appear he would do one thing at a time and then leave. For instance, drop off a check at one table and walk away without acknowledging that a different table hadn't been greeted or had their drink order taken in 20 minutes. Drop off bread for one table, but not the one next to it who also hadn't gotten bread. Didn't scan the other tables or combine trips. It's waiter 101. Our food arrived lukewarm after about 45 minutes. I ended up getting out of my seat to go find a manager. I mentioned that not only had we been ignored for a long time, but the table next to us had been sat and not even acknowledged for an extremely long wait, so it wasn't just us: it was a whole section. After the table-touch by the manager, the waiter wandered out totally confused and asked if we needed anything. Didn't seem to notice that the food he'd dropped off was no longer there. It was honestly funny. The manager quickly apologized, refired our food, and it came out within 10 minutes, piping hot and delicious. The steak was amazing, as were the drinks, bread (which arrived at the same time as the room-temperature steak), and dessert. The manager comped the entrees without asking. I'd go back, but if I see this same server I'll ask not to be assigned to his section. He's just not qualified for this job. My advice for this place is to let the guy go, run to the nearest diner, and find that woman with two jobs who works the night shift and can run the whole place with her eyes closed. She would never let this happen. read more

What a wonderful place to enjoy great company and delicious food! Very comfortable ambiance! Four of us had lunch here last Saturday and were extremely pleased with our selection of restaurant and entrees! Appetizers were the golden fried crispy tender calamari which were super tasty and yummy! We also had the crab, shrimp and artichoke dip. This was outstanding as well! Served with little squares of flatbread the dip was outstanding! My wife had the mango and shrimp salad and loved it! Lots and lots of goodies on this salad. Please see picture! I had the Caesar Salad with shrimp. It was delicious! My 97 year old mom had the crab, shrimp and artichoke open face sandwiches. She loved it and thought it was delicious! My son had the fried cod dish sandwich and loved it! Huge portion of breaded cod between a delicious roll! Dessert was a rhubarb slump with ice cream. Super yummy! This is my favorite restaurant in Bellingham! - it's not just the food- altho it's outstanding. There's really no other place that has it all;m.An excellent menu with seasonal changes, fresh food featuring local seafoods, fruits, vegetables. AND an unparalleled view-it's right on the water, with a path to walk before or after your meal. Watch the sunset or the moon rise. The decor and atmosphere complement the food. We had an amazing evening at Hearthfire after a busy day. While we just popped in for a very light dinner, we split a caesar salad with shrimp that was delicious and huge. Each half portion was entree sized for us. The romain lettuce was very fresh and the dressing very tasty without being too heavy or too much. The shrimp were the little guys you typically get in a shrimp cocktail, but one very large portion for each plate. We also had the Berry Berry Cocktail, which was fun (and tasty) and some fresh coffee. The setting and ambiance is always wonderful when the weather is nice, as we prefer to sit outside whenever possible. You can watch the boats come in in the evening as the sun sets in the distance. Beautiful!! The evening we were there the Bellwether Hotel next door had a band playing outside. The music was great and the sound system sufficient to allow us to enjoy it, without being overpowered -- that is, we could still talk to each other at normal volume. A beautiful sunset rounded it all out perfectly. Service was superb and very attentive. We've only been to the Hearthfire a few times, but service has always been great. Two thumbs way up! The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. Why only three stars? Although the restaurant did not disappoint on location, the food was the epitome of okay. Seafood is the star of the show but sadly disheartened on the deliverable. The calamari was hard fried, overcooked, and lacked freshness. I ordered the Sockeye with seasoned vegetables. The flavor was present but the overcooked theme continued with my salmon. The texture of the snap peas did add some reprieve but overall not impressed. I recommend bringing your camera, good company, and conversation to enjoy the view, but not the food. read more

We came here for lunch on our way up north to Blaine, WA. The sun was shining and a perfect day to enjoy the patio sitting that gives you pretty picture perfect view of the marina. We loved that the drink menu had some of our favorite Washington Wineries. Our personal favorite being Sparkman Cellars's Rose. The shrimp and artichoke dip was an absolute hit for my wife and I. I had the Wild Alaska True Cod Burger and let me tell you, puts a whole new spin on "fish and chips". The customer service was fantastic. Our waitress and the support staff were attentive, kind and made our experience enjoyable. If you're in Bellingham, add this to your "must try" list. The Lingcod was cooked just right. The combination of ingredients in this dish is not something I would have ever thought of doing but it all blended together surprisingly well. I would trust this chef. For tea drinkers, they offer Barnes & Watson teas, which I had never tried before. I had the mint tea and it was subtly nice. They also have honey. Spectacular location with a lovely view of the marina. The food is decent but pricey. I had the Royal Ranch Top Sirloin (small filet size at $34) My partner had the Roasted Scampi Prawns ($29), the highlight was the side of crasin pistachio rice pilaf. The seasonal specialty drinks were all based on peaches at the time of our visit. The ladies plowed through them pretty fast! I had my usual Manhattan and my partner had a red blend. Vibe was lively in the bar area, enjoyed the happy hour menu and the gorgeous harbor views for date night. Fountains and landscaping in front felt like we were on an island. Service was very friendly and helpful and free parking was closeby in the large structure. Favorites from the menu were the blue cheese salad (generously sized) and the sirloin. I absolutely love Anthony's as I've been going to the Edmond & Everett locations for years. It is a nice location but it's hard to find & not enough street lights. the handicap ramp is 100% dark it has no lights at all. It's like they don't care about the liability for someone to fall in the dark & rain. The hearth location services chicken & steak but not seafood & the other one serves only seafood & no chicken. So it's up to you which your going to eat. The food is good the quality is incredible high & the view is nice. The staff is friendly but does need some work when it comes to food safety. They did apologize & it was a misunderstanding but it was 100% avoidable. I loved the food but unfortunately they decided to put pumpkin seeds on my food & I did not ask for it. I'm allergic so thankfully I'm ok but you really shouldn't put food on a plate without informing the customer. I understand many eateries now have someone who salts the food after it's cooked but many people cannot have salt in their diet. So while the server may be aware the salt person has no clue & could harm someone. Frankly it's a job the chef should do as that kind of info is on the ticket. So to end up with an allergen on my plate because the staff just does what they want & doesn't bother to inform customers until it's served to them it could be to late. I don't care if pumpkin is popular you don't get to just add stuff without asking me first. It's a legal liability & while I got lucky tonight I could have ended up in an ambulance. I came here for my birthday dinner & then when they brought the replacement food they forgot rice. Rice doesn't have pumpkin in it so how can you forget it? I know it's small stuff but it was the first time I've ever been to this location. And I will come back but I will have to be far more clear with the staff since they didn't think to communicate with me. While I did not say I have a pumpkin allergy I did not assume they automatically sprinkle it on my food & that they did not list it on the menu nor mention it to me at all. Ordering Halibut rice & Brussels sprouts I would never have assumed pumpkin would be on my plate. I think you should legally required to inform customers before you decide to try to be fanciful with foods that can cause allergies & not ask nor inform someone of what your doing. Cause IF those had been peanuts & it had even come to the table that could be enough to kill someone. I know a lot of restaurants play fast & loose with allergies & don't really care but I do take them seriously. I will give it another chance because like I said I've never had a problem with Antony's ever in the last & I know it's a misunderstanding. I just hope in the future it doesn't end up harming someone else because they continue to not think about customers & food safety. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Bellingham. We would enjoy happy hour frequently, and it was our go-to restaurant for special occasions and to entertain guests from out of town. No more. I understand cost-cutting, but the happy hour menu has been cut significantly. Happy hour crab and artichoke dip is gone. As is lemon drop martini. The drinks we had were watery, and not very good. Not to mention cup of soup (dinner menu) for $13.50, which contained a large piece of corn pudding as filler. At 5:20, not many customers. They have successfully cut their costs, but the restaurant has lost its verve. Clearly, Bellingham is voting with its feet. read more

Great location and atmosphere, I've always had a great experience. I've read reviews and feedback from management and I see that you pride yourself on high standards. Yesterday evening I had dinner with 2 friends, I ordered the ceaser salad with no bacon. When served it had bacon, the server commented that it was the kitchens fault. Not a few minutes later she brings back the salad, I guess someone picked the bacon off of the plate as unfortunately one piece of bacon was missed. I could have done that myself, I guess I was expecting a new salad. Am I wrong? We also ordered calamari, it wasn't good, no one ate it. We pretty much left it minus a couple of pieces that we each tried. One would think, the server would inquire if something was off with the dish. It was cold and heavily fried. Our food and appetizers came at the same time. Overall not the dinner I was hoping for. read more

My friend and I an impromptu stop at Hearthfire Grill on July 4th. This is the perfect place to enjoy a fabulous lunch and enjoy a beautiful view of Squalicum harbor and Bellingham Bay. I had the Shrimp mango salad while my friend enjoyed their fabulous steak with French fries and onion rings. We enjoyed strolling the paths and outdoor waterfront trails adjoining the restaurant after enjoying our delicious lunch. read more
