The staff in the office are all amazing and I never have to wait. My wife and I trust Rene and we bring all 4 of our kids here. In fact we go out of our way, now coming to town from Santa Barbara because Dr. Herrera is so good. I've also sent friends here who had emergency dental issues. They also serve a lot of patients that many other offices wouldn't deal with. Folks who are low income or sometimes, unfortunately, kind of crazy. But they stick around anyway, despite the trouble at times, abuse. Don't hesitate to visit Dr. Herrera for yourself, he's awesome. read more

For all of you people on medical, this is the dentist for you! Was very pleased to find this lil gem of a dentist, that accepted my insurance! First visit today. This is a rock n roll dentist for real, the first thing you notice is all the awesome rocker decor they got going on!! Everything is so tidy and neat and fun! Lots of great art work and guitars and pictures! So much cool stuff to look at both in the waiting area and the patient rooms! Everything looks new and expensive lol So I came in for an x-ray and general check up. The lady at the front and the x-ray technician were both very friendly, welcoming and full of love! Just good vibes all around! Filled out a little bit of paper work, shortly after was called in the back. My x-rays we're done quickly too. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the actual dentist yet, nor got an explanation of my x-rays... You have to wait for your second visit for that, and they can get booked up, as my next appointment is not until March 18th (considering today is February 8th) Well, at least I got the ball rolling, and I actually like this dentist better than my last, so it's worth the wait. Receptionist Katie responses to what I told her about Doctor Herrera stating the nonprofit I work for is getting money through child sex trafficking and when I reversed it on them and said he probably does that with his company she threatened to file a report! I also said he didn't do a good job because fillings are suppose to feel full and my filling definitely does not feel full and doctor Herrera made side comments saying he recommends a crown and that he wants to see when my filling comes off because the next time it's a crown mind you also saying my insurance might not cover a crown so I demanded a filling instead and he almost refused to do as I say and refuse service to me!! I had an urgent situation (infected molar) but couldn't find ANYONE within the Medi-Cal network that could get me in - everyone was booked for at least a month out. I finally got a recommendation for RockDoc and they were able to work me in within a couple days. I went in for x-rays on a Friday. On Monday I got a call that they could get me in and was having my tooth pulled with a bone graft that afternoon. Dr. Herrera is very kind, time efficient, and does great work. His technicians are very friendly, put you at ease, and I thank them for recognizing my painful situation and pushing to get me in so quickly. Front staff is so sweet and welcoming. The office is pretty cool, full of rock 'n' roll memorabilia and decor and there's great music playing in the background that honestly took my mind off of what was going on. 12/10 recommend. this is a cool gimmick. But that is as far as it goes. I've never met a dentist who had no care for me as a patient before this person. It's a small hole in the wall with him and his wife running it. Had an exposed nerve in my tooth and he offered me nothing for pain, made me feel guilty for even asking even though my nerve is exposed. Refused to do the extraction himself unless I got a bone graft for additional $600. Then when I came back with the extra money he was so preoccupied with other patients he left me in the chair for two hoursAnd the numbing wore off and since it was the end of the day he couldn't be bothered to deal with the extraction on my molar so after two hours in the chair waiting and multiple shots in my jaw he didn't do anything for me, and even though he had now yanked on the tooth a bit and I am in pain he offered no help for that just said go elsewhere. He was my dentist for a few years. Everything was ok, until he extracted my bottom wisdom teeth and told me I had to be a week without exercising. I waited 10 days (for good measure), exercised and felt a slight, but easily manageable pain in the socket where my left wisdom tooth was. I called him and he told me to come in, I had to drive from Riverside (I was on a work assignment) to Bakersfield, which is a 6 HR (back and forth) drive, and miss a work day. He charged me $70 dollars and stuffed it with some gauze. Two days in it started to come out and the smell was horrible. He said it was ok to take it out, so I proceeded to take it out with extreme caution and here began the most excruciating and painful ordeal I've ever dealt with. The pain was so intense I would pace desperately back and forth in my room for hours. I had to rest (I couldn't sleep, much less lay down) sitting down for two days and drink sideways for 10 days. By the way, this is coming from someone who's suffered a broken nose, rib, two fingers and torn ligaments on both ankles. I had a dry socket!!! Later I did some research and found out that the best course of action was resting for 10-14 days, until it healed. But of course...doc needed his $70 dollars, so stuffing the socket with gauze was the best choice for him. To hell with the higher probability of this causing me a dry socket...right?! Do as you wish, but I'd go somewhere else. read more

I'll start with the good. Super friendly staff, professional, quick. I went in for a two fillings. Everything went well with that (or so I thought). When it came time to pay, the lady at the counter was making phone calls, looking up prices on the work that had been done. Finally after about 10-15 mins of her trying to figure it out, she finally gave me the price. In which I paid there, said and done, right? Wrong. I get a bill in the mail about 2 weeks later for $50. I called out of curiosity what the bill was about because there was no explanation on the bill. The woman who answered said that my insurance had given them the wrong price on my coverage. And that she reduced the price down for me as a favor. So I asked her if she could reduce it down to $0. And she replied, "no" because she could get in trouble. Then said that her reducing it down once already could also get her in trouble. So then I asked if she could reduce it down to $25. And replied "no" because she could get into trouble and that it wasn't her business. Last thing, my tooth hurts now. I went in with no pain in my teeth, but now it hurts! My very first appointment here was an emergency and I was beyond scared because of how bad my mouth hurt and how swollen it was but they made sure I was beyond ok the entire time. I had high hopes for this place, but the work he does on your teeth is horrible. I went in for one filling, was told I needed 3.. plus more and they took my money for a root canal, trying to get that back in itself was a whole other task. Anyway, I got 3 teeth filled. And he ruined my teeth, leaving the appointment my teeth felt worse.. I decided to get a second opinion..he left a gap under one filling, damaged the pulp of my tooth in the second filling which resulted in a root canal because I was in tremendous pain. And the 3rd filling broke! So 100% would not recommend, I spend two much money fixing this mess.. when I should've went to a different dentist in the beginning. I write this review as a physician and former patient of theirs. Their copays are higher than similar procedures at other dental offices. Generally, after 4pm, they won't answer the phone although they state operating hours are until 5pm. It's been about 2 weeks since my visit to this joint. First apt was basically X-ray and filling of paperwork. 2nd apt is where you have ur teeth examined by the dr. They're incredibly pushy as far as having to try and squeeze out every penny out of you. This guy must be desperate for money. It's like you're walking in to one of those pyramid multi level schemes with everyone coming at you for money. Makes you question why you chose this joint. Be very careful how you respond because they're quick to lay on the fear of darkness disaster and doom that'll fall upon you should you decline extra stuff that's not needed that your insurance does not cover. Went in for routine general work but nooooooo he wanted to charge me over $1,000s extra that would've come out of my pocket. Do you have an extra grand or more to blow? If you do then this is the place. Staff are all over the place. Initially they didn't seem to have anything organized. In this tiny room they're all around you buzzing trying to get stuff sorted. Makes you feel very stressed, cramped and uncomfortable. Seriously not very professional. One of them couldn't read the X-ray correctly and had to be corrected in front of me by the dentist. Brushed it off like it was nothing. Dentist did not wear a mask. Assistant did. He isn't the approachable type that lets you ask questions and puts you at ease. No. He came in opened my mouth and shot me up with Novocain then disappears. Did that multiple times. Just when you want to ask a question he's gone. As soon as your mouth closes after he's done with your tooth he's gone. Don't ask the staff there mulling around while you wait in the chair for any questions. They'll pounce on the opportunity to offer services that'll cost you thousands of dollars.. NO THANKS. Dentist seemed rushed. You don't feel relaxed and at ease as he seems like he's in such a hurry as if you're burdening and inconveniencing him and making his day miserable by having you there. He genuinely displayed disappointment when I declined extra stuff that I did not need. Yet parked outside is his Humvee gas guzzler. Equipment is antiquated. Not up to date as in a modern dentist office. It's like a rural 3rd world country dentist office. The computer system itself does not work properly as it takes FOREVER for any photos to pull up. What is this guy doing with all the money he is making from this place. Wouldn't you think he would be reinvesting it back into modernizing and upgrading his equipment? ITS 2017!!! Very sad. Music gets old. Same song over and over and over and over again. Went in for basic stuff. He did basic stuff but didn't seem very happy doing just the basic essential work that was needed. I set up an appointment without any issues and their office staff was more than helpful. And the days prior to the scheduled appointment date they contacted me several times to remind me of my appointment. This is the cleanest office I've ever been in. I was greeted by a beautiful woman named Katie. She was so accommodating making me feel comfortable. And I was . I had porcelain veneers put in as a cosmetic procedure. Mr. Herrera the doctor was so gentle and worked efficiently. When I was 16, a dentist nicked my gums and made me bleed. It wasn't his fault. I have Tourette Syndrome, and I ticked as he was working on me. This instilled in me an indescribable fear of dentists, or at least of dental work. Again, not their fault. I never went to another dentist until a few months ago. Fearing that we'd soon lose our health insurance, my wife made appointments for us with what was essentially the first dentist she could find. Dr. Rene Herrera of Rock Doc Dentistry. I am 37 now, and if you do the math, that means it'd been 21 years since I'd seen a dentist. I was petrified, except not-my nerves set off my tics and I jerked about worse than I have my entire adult life. But Dr. Herrera and his compassionate staff worked with me. Talked with me. Calmed me. I had two small cavities and needed a deep cleaning. And after taking some medication, I went in to get the work done. The deep cleanings, done over two appointments, were no big deal. Any pain was more of a brief nuisance. Getting the cavities drilled and filled in that first session was even less than that. Today, I went in for a follow up. Some post op photos and a good polishing. I loved it. I felt so calm. Dr. Herrera is efficient, precise, gentle and knowledgeable. He speaks to me candidly, but with respect. His staff takes the time to entertain whatever questions I ask, even if they aren't related to the work being done. They are nurturing, which is precisely what I needed. Dr. Herrera and his staff cured my fear of dentists. You want to know what I think of them? Just ask my 4-year-old daughter. She insists that when she's old enough, Dr. Herrera will be her dentist. I highly recommend this dentist!!! I am a very nervous person when it comes to the dentist but from the time I walked in to the time I left I felt comfortable, welcomed and well taken care of... The front girls are nice friendly and welcoming the office is clean and it has a great atmosphere!! I have always been afraid of shots and I can honestly say that I didn't feel the shot there was not a time during my visit that I was uncomfortable or felt any pain!! Every procedure from start to finish was explained to me clearly. And they have flexible office hours even after my work hours, which works well for me. Do not go here if you have children! This dentist/assistant is incredibly rude! I arrived today 10 mintues early for my son's appointment. I'm a stay-at-home wife and we are a homeschooling family, so I brought along my other 2 children and my infant son. As soon as we walked in, the female dentist or perhaps assistant greeted us with, "Oh, wow..." said in a tone of condescension. We've dealt with that before, so I brushed it off, tried to be polite, and began filling out paperwork. The waiting area is very small, with one couch and one chair, so I asked my children to all sit on the couch and leave the chair in case someone else came in (no one did, and the place was very slow). My older three children are incredibly well behaved and literally sat without saying a word, working quietly on schoolwork and reading. My 1 year old was toddling around playfully and I was playing peek-a-boo with him. After waiting for 20 mintues, this woman came back out and told us that in the future, we could not bring children to the appointment-- only the patient and 1 guardian of the patient is a minor. What?!? So I calmly asked if perhaps we should just go somewhere else? She said rudely, "I don't meant to offend you, but you can't be taking up all the room in the waiting area for other patients." Again, no one else was there and we had left the chair open. Plus, we weren't planning on staying there once my son was taken back. Oh well, I was again calm and kind but we decided to go elsewhere. Incredibly unprofessional in the way she had her hair/makeup as well, and also had inappropriate magazines visible. Not a place for people with children or just people with class.
