Dr. Chad Nguyen is an outstanding dentist. I have been going to him with my family for the last 10 years. He is the first dentist that I ever went to, who did not cause me excessive pain. In fact, Dr. Nguyen and his staff have a pain-free dentistry policy. If you feel pain, you just wave your left hand and they get right out of your mouth. They will help you deal with the pain first, and then continue with the procedure. Dr. Nguyen is a family man and loves children. Whenever I go there with my daughter, he is very gentle and fun. Every time I ask my daughter what she wants to do when she grows up she says that she wants to be a doctor, like Dr. Nguyen. She really loves him, and that's huge for me considering that I have a long history of extremely painful dental visits. We've lived in Bakersfield for 24 years, much longer than I had anticipated. Both my children were born here. When it was time to visit a dentist, my wife took them to her dentist located in the Mercy Southwest complex. Even with my insurance, I kept getting a large bill. I finally did some research to find a different dentist that would be more reasonably priced and closer to home. I tried Northwest Dental when the office was located next to Savemart on Calloway and Rosedale Highway. My kids liked Dr. Chad Nguyen. Then my wife started to visit Dr. Nguyen and also liked the way he handled the issues. I am paranoid with needles and dentists. My last visit to the dentist was over 20+ years ago when I had a root canal done while living in the Bay Area. That was a painful experience. As luck would have it, I had a chance meeting with Dr. Nguyen at a retail store. I told him I was paranoid about dentists. He proceeded to tell me, there is no pressure but when I get the courage to go, he will definitely go easy on me. Two weeks later, my front tooth cracked and I had to see a dentist. I went ahead and saw Dr. Nguyen. He reassured me he would be sensitive to my needs and my paranoia. After the x-ray, Dr. Nguyen gave me some news. Even after not seeing a dentist for a long time, my teeth is not in a bad shape. The bad news is I need to have two root canals. Two days later I get one root canal. Dr. Nguyen was sensitive to my needs. He applied the topical anesthetic and makes sure the area is numb, then he injects the actual anesthesia. He is so gentle with the injection, again taking his time to administer the anesthesia. He explained the pain from the injection is not when the needle punctures the skin, but rather when the anesthesia is administered too quickly. After several weeks, the dental work was done. With the exception of my first visit, I looked forward to visiting Northwest Dental. read more

I have never felt more at ease at a dentists office before. This place is fantastic! They take care credit & even offered me a payment plan (aside from the care credit) The staff is absolutely wonderful! I was really scared to see the hygienist because i heard it (deep cleaning) hurts and she saw how nervous I was and so she started humming to me... Im in my 20's but I found it very comforting that she would even think of doing that. she was great! The actual dentist (there were 2? 3?) mine was Bryan ______? He's totally not what I expected! Such a young dentist! So incredibly sweet & gentle! All the women in the office are very soft spoken and have very quiet voices haha so make sure you REALLY listen. Nikki is an amazing hygienist. Dentist is also amazing. Best, most gentle dental experience ever. I also never felt judged for being anxious or pain averse. The facilities are very nice, clean, and modern. They use digital x-rays and the hygienist I had, was very careful with placement of the films and was checking in to make sure I wasn't in pain or experiencing too much discomfort with them. She took just as much care in my cleaning and made me feel at ease (as much as possible while lying back with metal in your mouth). She did an amazing job and my teeth feel incredibly smooth and clean. I do have an appointment to go back for a filling so we'll see how that goes. The other thing I loved, is the receptionist went over all my benefits before my appointment and when I thought one might be wrong, instead of getting an attitude, she agreed it could be possible and went to research it further. They also didn't try to up-sell me a bunch of procedures to get more money out of me. In fact, I actually had a couple smaller cavities that the dentist said we would watch, but rather than trying to squeeze more stuff out me, he is just filling one that is larger and already bothering me. Very nice staff, great experience, and while I can't say I'm looking forward to going back and having a tooth filled. I feel very comfortable in their hands for the procedure. read more

Had such an amazing experience here. I am so picky when it comes to who I go to for my dentist and since I am not originally from here, it's hard to figure out where to go. I tried another dentist in town and the experience was far from personable. I felt as if I was in a factory and I was just a set of teeth and not a person. I found this place on yelp and I must say I definitely will be returning. The office was clean, comfortable, and good music was playing when I walked in! The front desk staff was very friendly and actually took the opportunity to explain my insurance benefits to me. I was called back for X-rays which is usually an extremely uncomfortable experience shoving this thing in my mouth but the girl who did it was gentle and friendly (unfortunately I didn't catch her name). Nikki was my hygienist and she was great. She was thorough, friendly, educated me, and she was gentle during my cleaning. My teeth felt wonderful afterwards! =) Dr. Nguyen then came back and was friendly and thorough. One important thing I look for in a dentist is someone who can explain and show me what they are looking for, not just numbering my teeth off. This office and staff has met my standards. This place is totally focused on the well being of the patient. My family and I went to a different dentist for our annual check-up. They told my daughter that she would need two root canals, even though she had not been experiencing any pain or discomfort. They told me that I had no cavities. Woot Woot (spoke too soon). I decided to get a second opinion and am so thankful that I did. Northwest Dental Arts advised that one tooth only needed a filling. The second they wanted to try and salvage the tooth before moving forward with a root canal. They were able to take care of it with a filling as well. My daughter suffers from dental anxiety. They had her completely calm and got both teeth taken care of. I decided to have them check my teeth as well. Sure enough, I had a small cavity. While examining me, the Dentist noticed the shape of my teeth and was concerned about grinding damage. She slightly filed one of my teeth down that was damaging my others while grinding. I am very upset (i burst into tears. How's that for very upset) with my visit today (1/25). I was supposed to get my teeth cleaned but all i did was waiting around. And no one told me anything. Pls tell patients if you are running behind. Xray took me half hour. During Xray, i x even know what is going on. I had the thing shoved to my mouth in and out for half hour. I had my Xray done at my dentist in another state, it didn't take half hour. I was gagging already. No communications at all. Appointment was at 2pm. At 315pm there was still no sight of the dentist or tech to clean my teeth. Again, no one told me anything. I was only told "Nick" will be there with me shortly. 15 shortly mins later, no one came. I had to leave because my time is precious. The waiting without knowing is horrible. This place totally wasted my time. I changed my schedule to come to this appointment to have my time wasted. Go figure. P/S: My husband has the same app at 2pm and he got his done. When he was done, I haven't even seen the tech. Again, if you are short of staff, please don't book too many people! " BEST OF THE BEST " Wife and I have been coming to Northwest Dental Arts for 12 years now. Dr. Nguyen is an exceptional dentist to say the least. Most recent visit I had an issue with a rear molar that was hurting and loose. I was petrified thinking I probably would have to have the tooth removed. I arrived at 2:00 PM (which my girl Erica worked me in last minute) at 2:05 PM Josie brought me in and took a couple of X-rays. At 2:08 Dr. Nguyen examined my bad tooth that he had tried to save for a long time and said " Steve I think it's time to remove your molar. WHAT!!!!! My nervousness kicked in BIG time to say the least. The Doc gently shot me up (which was almost painless) and at 2:18PM I was getting instruction from Josie on how to care for my extraction after the fact. WOW..... Home shortly thereafter. Numbness wore off by 4:30 PM. Absolutely NO pain at all AWESOME. As I am doing this review it is now 6:45 PM and literally NO PAIN. I love this guy. Great job Doc and thank you for making sure my dental needs are met NO matter the problem. See y'all next week to have my teeth cleaned!! read more

Made an appointment at the beginning of the week for that coming thursday. Confirmed it with the scheduler that I had the correct date and time. Show up 30 mins early (bc i am a new patient), they say their office is closed and they have no dentist on site. That i must have the wrong office. They sent me to another office down several doors down. I didnt have an appt with that office. I went back to them and told them I called them and was told I had an appt today. They looked at the schedule and had put me on for 3 weeks later...... Definitely wont be trying to get an appt at this office again. read more

Great experience for me and I am really not a big fan of going to the dentist. I went in and the staff was amazing. It started with X-ray and consult with the dentist. He identified a cavity and I needed a root canal and crown on a broken tooth. Then the dental hygienist did a 20 minute clean of all the plaque buildup and was awesome (Nikki). I loved the fact that everyone was so nice and did not try and sell me a deep clean like all of the other dentists. The front office lady was so nice and understanding with the billing and insurance and so forth, the first time I have been to a dentist and did not feel like a human ATM. Had the root canal and the dentist was great, super compitant and great bedside manor. I did not feel one bit of pain during the procedure and dentist was good at letting me know what was going on and asking how I was doing. If you want a great dentist with no high pressure sales and rude staff like the other dentists I have been to, then dr. Nguyen is the breath of fresh air you are looking for. read more

I had a dentist for 7 years that I loved he got meover my fear of the dentist. So when he moved I was mortified. However, after seeing all the great reviews. I am so happy to have found this dentist. Everyone was really nice, they are reasonably priced for all services. Hygienist was kind and I never got scared since I am the biggest wimp at the dentist. Never got the opportunity to question or get concerned. My daughter watched Toy Story 2 while getting x-rays and cleaned Good warm feeling in the office, staff was great, and very professional. I recently moved to Bakersfield and needed a dentist. I came here after reading all the nice reviews for teething cleaning. The wait time was ridiculous (2 hours). The cleaning itself probably took only 15min or less. The doctor thought my teeth would be easy to clean so didn't even bother to let the hygienists do it after he examined my teeth. My plaques never returned so fast after cleaning. It was plaque free for only two days. I'm not a dentist but I know I always had it last much longer after cleaning. I gave this place 3 stars (instead of 1) because the nurses are very friendly and helpful. read more

They are polite, and knowledgeable. However, it is just basic care. They do not go over that. Basic cleaning, like basic basic. Basic customer care, etc. They do not seem up to date on the current tools of the trade. Wasn't a bad experience, however, we will not go back. We are looking for more motivated hygienist and dentist.
