UPDATE/REPLY TO OWNER: After I posted this review, the owner replied and said that seam variation is normal and that they always try to make seams as minimal and consistent as possible. That all sounds reasonable -- but here's what the reply leaves out. The seam we're concerned about has visible glue residue and looks just like the others did, which they had already cleaned up successfully during the same install. The only difference? By the time we brought this one up, we'd already paid in full. We weren't asking for perfection -- just for this last seam to be finished to the same standard. Instead, we were told "nothing can be done," and no one even offered to come take a look. Honestly, it turned what had been a great experience into a really frustrating one. On the first day, they noticed that the quartz pieces had some bowing issues (apparently, this can happen if the slabs are stored outside, which these were). The owner called to explain that they needed to correct the bowing to ensure the seams would be less noticeable. This adjustment delayed their initial timeline of 7 days after templating. The team added braces to the countertops and returned a few days later. There were additional delays getting the waterfall edges and windowsill installed, but once everything was in place, we were generally satisfied with the overall look. However, about a week later, we noticed one seam that stood out from the others -- visibly rougher and less refined. We contacted the owner and were told this kind of thing happens, that nothing could be done, and that even worse seams are displayed in their showroom. That response left us disappointed. Given how good the other seams looked, we were surprised at the lack of effort or interest in finding a resolution. If you hire Rock-It, we recommend staying engaged through the final details of the install. Be sure you're 100% satisfied before signing off and paying in full. The Rock-It Surfaces Inc. team rocked our countertops, and we love it! Our biggest concern during the selection process was a countertop that ended in the middle of a window. Rock-It was the only company that addressed the problem upfront and provided a solution. Some companies didn't reply at all. The next step in the process was selecting our material, another bonus. We didn't have to waste hours driving to every company that carries quartz. Rock-It has the slabs at their office location, and Richard gave us a list of the Quartz slabs and pricing. We knew the slab we wanted as soon as we saw it and proceeded to the next step. We went over the details and signed off on the contract, including demo, fabrication, installation, and literally, the kitchen sink. The demo and measure date went as planned. As others have mentioned, the area is measured by laser and fabricated off-site. A week from our final sign-off, our beautiful countertops were installed, and I can't stop looking at them. The counter that ended in the middle of a window is gone, along with the eye twitch I got every time I saw it. A waterfall edge turned it into extra counter space and a thing of beauty. We knew ahead of time that the quartz piece in the window would need to be planed. Pat and Taylor took the final measurements while on-site and called them into the office to create our custom piece. Someone from the office then delivered it so it could be installed. This is the difference in craftsmanship. We are very happy with our new outdoor kitchen counter top. Steve, in the Sale floor was very helpful in directing us to the right kind of stone to use outside. Everyone else told us to use quartzite. Steve was the only one who pointed out that the resins in the quartzites will quickly leave to wear and tear and discoloration (which I confirmed doing research online). He used high tech equipment to get just the right measurements. The install team was friendly and professional and went above and beyond when it turned out our landscapers didn't cut out the Grill section in the pre-fab that we got (miscommunication) . Steven took the time to go over the different options, then gave us the opportunity to look over the different samples at our own pace. The demo crew was very careful with the fresh paint job and new floors - due to a scheduling mishap, I had the floor contractor finishing up the floor install on the counter demo day and I appreciated the crews working around each other for a short time. They were able to remove the tile counters with no damage to the cabinets and minimal, easily repaired drywall blemishes. I was very pleased with that, having demoed tile myself in the past. We recently completed a renovation of our entire house involving the installation of a new kitchen. One of the most important things to us was the kitchen countertop, and we decided to go with granite because of its durability and heat resistance. We checked multiple places within the San Diego area and decided on Rock-it because they seemed very knowledgeable, reliable and also very reasonably priced. This turned out to be the very best decision we made throughout the entire renovation, for reasons we didn't even know at the beginning. First, they were by far the best price for the slab and installation. Second, we found out that granite comes in two widths - 2 cm and 3 cm. Most people use the 2 cm width, which then also involves creating a small curtain of granite that runs around the top, otherwise the 2 cm looks very thin. With 3 cm no curtain is necessary - it's just a solid piece of tick granite. It also weighs 50% more of course, but you get a lot more material for your money, and it looks better than having two pieces abutting each other along every edge. Second, their measuring process was very impressive. They used a machine to exactly measure the countertop dimensions that the set in the center of the kitchen and were able to calculate dimensions to within a tiny fraction of an inch. As a result the piece they brought to the house fit absolutely perfectly to tolerances that would rival the manufacture of a Rolls Royce. Third, they provided expert advice on exactly how we should configure the countertop for its use as a bar as well, with a 10 inch overhang. Their solution provided maximum stability but did not require the use of posts or poles that would have detracted from the overall simple look we wanted. Fourth, they helped us choose the piece of granite and the exact areas to be selected to give the most interesting pattern. What is great about them is you only pay for the granite you use, so you don't have to buy a whole slab that you are not going to use. Their installation was fast and painless, which was also impressive considering that they had to bring a massive heavy countertop up winding stairway which all of our other contractors had trouble with, and they didn't leave a mark on the walls or the floor. All said, they were the best single contractor we have ever worked with and it is impossible to praise them or recommend them highly enough. read more

I'm writing this review based on the poor interaction and experience I had at Rock-it. My wife and I went there two weeks ago looking for a counter top. We were excited to buy a home and to remodel our kitchen. Generally most people are friendly and welcoming when you take the time to visit their store but Richard was not. Even my wife said after the interaction, geez that guy was a jerk. He showed us a slab and gave us a price of 9K which I thought was very high and I said hey can you work with us on this. His response "no can't do anything, the margins are very slim on it." I ended up leaving and did some more him work (this was the first slab yard we visited) and found the same style quartz with fabrication for 5500 compared to his 9K. Richard could careless we made a 45 minute drive to see his slab yard and his demeanor to us was that a turnoff. Be sure to shop around if you visit this place. read more

Our kitchen countertops were 30+ years old and needed replacing. We visited several showrooms but wanted a 'one-stop shop' to provide the countertop, demolition, install, etc. These guys are consummate professionals, down to the very last detail. Richard came out to survey the kitchen, discussed options, and was very polite and friendly. His one disappointment was that he might have to allow an extra 1/8th of an inch around the range just to provide a fraction more space. Anyway, take a look at the photographs; the results speak for themselves. Maybe they aren't the cheapest but I know we'll never have any regrets with the end result. Absolutely fabulous, and incredibly precise :) I did see a couple of other reviews where Steve perhaps wasn't super-friendly.
