We are remodeling our house. As part of the process, our kitchen cabinet contractor (more on them at a later date) sent us to MSI on Miramar to look for counter material. We (I) fell in love with the idea of using porcelain slabs. They are inexpensive and look fantastic. In a previous life, I was in the ceramics business and worked a lot with porcelain. I knew it to be very strong. The problem with porcelain is that there are not many fabricators that can work with it. It's new and tricky. Our cabinet contractor's counter guys couldn't do it, so we checked the MSI website and found SoCal. We contacted them via the web and their office manager Lindsay responded almost immediately. She explained that SoCal had extensive experience with porcelain and with the slab type that we wanted. I sent over drawings and measurements, got a quote, and we sent them a 50% deposit. SoCal sent out a team to double check the installation and measurements. Jesse Esparza spent 30 to 45 minutes taking measurements and discussing the installation. He was used to handling the porcelain and advised us against installing it in our kitchen (our cabinet installer had advised against it, too). He told us that they could do it and it would look great, but because we had a significant overhang on a peninsula, it would be prone to cracking and might need to be reinforced. Additionally, any heavy pot dropped could easily crack it. Porcelain is at one bulletproof and brittle. This is the kind of expert advice that is hard to find these days (or so we all like to believe). We went back to Lindsay, put the project on hold and returned to MSI where we chose a quartz slab that seemed like it wouldn't be too much (more on MSI in another post). It turns out that we picked THE MOST EXPENSIVE slab in the yard. After reworking the bid with the new quote from MSI, we opted to return to our contractor's counter installer. SoCal didn't hesitate to return our deposit, included Jesse's drawings and measurements in case it would help our new installer, and saved a counter piece that Jesse had taken with him as a template. Honest. Knowledgeable. Responsive. This is everything one would want from a business. I cannot recommend them strongly enough. read more

Jade, Lindsay, and the team are absolutely amazing. As a stone importer, I rely on the SoCal team to fabricate and install all kinds of materials that our customers, architects, and designers spec out. They specialize not only in normal granite or marble fabrication but can also handle the new stuff to hit the market like Geoluxe and Porcelain slabs. Lindsay and Jade were very transparent with me. We established a great working relationship within minutes of speaking on the phone and via email. Their prices are competitive, even against other companies with active sales. While, their knowledge of stone fabrication seems to go deep. Unfortunately, we ended up going with a different fabricator whom had slabs on clearance, which SoCal Counterworks simply could not compete with on the materials cost. If it wasn't for that, going with SoCal Counterworks would have be a no brainier. I will definitely keep them in mind and refer the company to other people. Great work but not the best ending unfortunately. Rafael did an awesome job with the tile, but failed put back together one of the sliding doors he disassembled and left unfinished. When we called and asked about the door, we were told he forgot and would be back on Sunday to finish it. He did not show up. I don't mean to be picky but our house is a small house and if you're going to do that for a small job, what's going to happen to a large job? Now we have to go to Home Depot to get the supplies to fix it ourselves. read more

Our experience was very pleasant working with the SoCal sales, office and install teams. Professional and trustworthy. I visited 5 different contractors and got bids from them all. Pricing was competitive but the main reason we selected SoCal was the MSI slab we wanted was not available in the 2cm. SoCal did the research and suggested the 3cm slab, which there was only (1) remaining at MSI in Miramar. None of the other contractors made that suggestion - their reply was choose a different slab (which I had already made the hardware and cabinet color decision based on the slab we chose) or wait 5+ weeks due to COVID/demand. When I told one of the contractors that we were going with the 3cm slab with another contractor, she said, "oh, I didn't know you wanted a 3cm slab." Funny thing is that we didn't either as I've never done a kitchen remodel but SoCal earned the business by making a simple suggestion! It was more costly but it was worth it. They found other solutions as well when it came to the install. Also, the slab we wanted was shown to me by the sales team at SoCal and none of the other contractors had that sample in stock for some reason. I felt they earned the project. I will be reaching back out to them when we start to remodel our bathrooms. read more

Used this vendor (through Tile Direct) for 2 tile fireplace installs. It was a "small" job done while my wife and I were both at work (Rafael is installer). I actually found the quality of workmanship to be sloppy when I really looked closely at the work (e.g. sloppy grout job, gaps in tiles, etc.). Neli in the front office was fine; however I found that I had to initiate many of the calls and when doing so she would often say "I was just about to call you". I'm sure there are better places out there, we just figured the Tile Direct "recommendation" of who they typically use was the best choice. Guess not... read more

I had a fireplace project in Carlsbad and Jade came through with the granite for the hearth, it's incredible. It was a more than average hearth and the three pieces they made were perfect. I had purchased my wood look porcelain tiles at Tiles Direct which came in right on schedule and installed by EHI from a recommendation by a friend. Raphael did an excellent job my friend's tile install and I was excited to use EHI for my install as well. Raphael and his helper finished ~1200 sq ft of tile in 8 days which involved removing old carpet and tile as well as moving appliances. The tile installation looks incredible and I am very happy with EHI in both customer service and attention to detail. I really liked EHI's flexibility to work with my other trades that were also doing installation of the mantle during the carpet/tile removal. I highly recommend EHI. I have used this company three times for tile work. There is a reason I always go back. This family owned business is amazing and does everything they can to please the customer. For the most current job, Rafael and his workers took out carpet and existing tile and replaced it with wood plank porcelain tiles that I purchased through Tile Direct (owned by the same family) in San Marcos. Not only did they give me great pricing, but they worked to meet my schedule and deadline. Rafael is such a hard worker and make sure the job gets done correctly and on time. I trust him to work in my home when I am not there and I feel comfortable leaving him with a key. He goes out of his way to help me with whatever needs to be done.
