Okay, first off... they have a pet menu! Any restaurant that's so pet friendly that they have options for furry friends is a definite keeper in my book! On top of it, their mocktails have their own seasonal menu and are quite fantastic as well. We were still quite full from lunch, but had some tasty chili, clam chowder and truffle fries. Service was quite attentive in a very busy restaurant... and it looked like a pretty robust bar scene. All in all... You can't beat the location of this restaurant in Salem. As a party of 1, I was seated immediately, though I'll admit it was about 8pm, so last dinner rush. The restaurant is well appointed and certainly a break from the cliche of downtown Salem. Service was good, though not great--my water was never refilled, I wasn't checked on after the food arrived and needed a fork. I had the margharita flatbread and Greek pasta. A long overdue review from our trip in the summer! We stopped here after being recommended by our Salem tour guide. This place has a haunted history, so we were very excited to check it out. To drink I got The Lady in Blue. It was refreshing and had a fruit punch-y vibe to it. This drink is named after the spirit that haunts this location (ask a server to see if they can share details about this!). I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and it was super tasty! I felt the flavors all balanced each other out very well. My husband ordered the fish tacos and enjoyed those. He said it was just the right portion size. The staff were PHENOMENAL, from the hostess to the server to the bussers, everyone was friendly and happy to chat with us. The food is good with ample vegetarian and vegan options. The drinks are so good I ended up getting 3. The braised beef was delicious and perfectly tender. Our waiter was great and very attentive. Always making sure we had everything we needed. My mom got the clam chowder for an appetizer and said it was the best clam chowder she had the whole trip( we spent a week on Boston beforehand). Well it's been a minute and we still come back every single year that we visit the area. The renovated interior is a huge upgrade! Love how open it is, and the people watching in the fall is always phenomenal. We like to belly up and still order their ice cold beer especially the Shipyards. No matter how slammed they get in October, the bartenders are friendly and funny. We normally focus on the great cocktails, but we especially love the prosciutto and the veggie flatbreads and the grilled cheese sandwich with sun-dried tomato and pesto. What a disappointment. The only enjoyable part of the evening was my friend take the Helltini challenge and winning the T-shirt. The lady in blue drink was bland and lacked depth of flavor. The mussels had a weak taste to them. In the portobello tower the mushrooms were cooked well and the spaghetti sauce was alright. The steak tips tasted more like brisket based on the seasoning and sauce it was in. I asked for it medium and it was cooked well done which is disappointing. The thing that brings this review to a 2 is the service. Our waitress Sophia was MIA the entire time. She would disappear and would not really check on us. Everything she interacted with us she seemed annoyed. BUT the server Shelby, who wasn't our waitress checked in on us multiple times, went to find for our waitress when we needed something, and was extremely friendly/ready to help. The ambiance was fine nothing that added to the experience or subtracted. Overall this is a skip. Way too expensive for the quality/flavor of food/drinks and the service. read more

I'll start with my main course. The half chicken was interesting... it's like they served me a chicken with severe dwarfism.. half chicken, more like two tiny pieces of chicken served on flavorless mashed potatoes with watered down canned gravy. Pictured is said dish with my hand as comparison and I have small hands. For $30 I could've paid $5 and got a frozen chicken meal that would've been better than this. Prosciutto flatbread was supposed to have mixed greens with vinaigrette dressing on top. Mixed greens were extremely large and very dry with no vinaigrette. Making the flatbread awkward and unbalanced. Also the flavor was rather non existent. When utilizing greens on top of a flatbread, arugula is best choice. I love mixed greens but the way they utilize for a flatbread is incorrect and bizarre. The star of the show was our server Aiden. Beyond incredible. The chicken Madeira was great dish and the chocolate cake was great quality. Whoever they outsource the desserts from keep doing that. Wise choice. To add, this guy in a tshirt, jeans and athletic shoes walked over and I thought it was some drunk weirdo coming to bother us which made me very uncomfortable. Then he asks how is everything. One can only assume he is manager by nature of question. As a restaurant manager or owner it's their job to present as leader with appearance. We ended an evening tour and were starving. Who knew almost all the restaurants in town close their kitchens between 8:30 and 9pm? This is the only place we could find that still had an open kitchen at 9pm so that's how we chose this place. The service was good, the seating was comfortable and the pace was pretty spacious. My son had a tower or portobello and eggplant that looked huge and amazing. He ate it all. I was boring and had a hamburger and a side of mac and cheese because it sounded good. Both were exactly what I wanted. Solid food without being too far from what it claims to be. The drink my son got was pretty good and he thought the pink flamingo in his glass was cute- we still have it. The only miss was the chips and homemade French onion dip- it was corn tortilla chips which I did not recall reading that on the menu. I wanted the dip and it was a good flavor but the corn chips did not go at all with it and we barely ate any. It was disappointing. We came here on Halloween day and you need to expect you will have to wait in line because there is only one place I found in the entire town that does reservations. For the length of the line we were very surprised we only waited 30 minutes. We were seated outside and it was so fun to be able to see everyone walking by in their costumes. This restaurant was recommended to me by my hair dresser . I was a little surprised it only had a 3 star rating because I had a great experience here. They have a beautiful outdoor patio area which I love , but we decided to sit inside. The service was a little slow. However, the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese was to die for! Great place for a fast lunch with lots of options. All 5 meals my party ordered were really good. The tartar sauce I got with my fish and chips was some of the best I've ever had. The meals were really loaded with fries such that we had a lot of left overs. There were some characters that appeared to be self medicating on the sidewalk next to the patio. Walking around Salem we came across Rockafella's cute patio and decided to eat there. The hostess is lovely. i ordered the crab cake BLT with onion rings and my son had the halibut with vegetables and risotto. Everyone who sat after us had their meals and we didn't. Our waitress came by to let us know that the order was just placed and asked if we needed anything else. My son ordered a beer (you would have thought she'd give it to him for free for not putting in our order, but no). When our order finally arrived and everyone was gone from the patio even people who were sat after us, I asked for a ranch dressing. He told me that he'd be right back with it. We never saw him again!!! I told the waitress, when she checked on us (at least 15 minutes later) and she asked why I didn't ask her for it. This was her first time checking on us since the food was delivered! Very strange service and nothing comped when they made mistakes twice!! Food and drinks were good. Nice sized crab cake on a brioche bun with perfectly cooked bacon. The onion rings were tempura battered. My son loved the fish and roasted vegetables, but he wasn't fond of the risotto. Exploring Salem for the weekend and stumbled upon Rockafellas! Ambiance: Modern and stylish bar great for tourists and people looking to hang for a night out. Right in the heart of Salem's tourist attractions. Paid parking on the street and in some public lots. Not too busy when I arrived on a Saturday night in January (not peak tourist season...) but got surprisingly busy as the night went on! Price: Pricey, but it is a popular late night spot in a tourist area and food prices have been going up. Quality was great, but quantity for the price I thought was a bit... underwhelming. Ordered: Hummus Plate, Boneless Chicken Tenders, and a Cookie Skillet. Pros: The apps tasted great and the beer came in nice drinking glasses. Everything came out in a timely manner and our waiters were very helpful and attentive. Also a nice few local craft beer selections! Cons: The quantity for the price. I've had hummus plates in popular bars with similar ambiance and they were massive with different dips, pitas, and veggies. The food tasted fine otherwise. Had a similar feeling for the chicken fingers, which reminded me of the price and quantity I would pay at a sports arena. Overall: Paid for the vibes, and would definitely be back with more people for a night out! If I was looking for an affordable and quality dinner option, this might be towards the end of my list, but that's to be decided after I make some comparisons elsewhere. read more

We started our yearly trip off at this amazing staple in Salem! Shout out to Julie who gave us a brief history of Rockafellas. She mentioned that Rockafellas was a bank and jewelry store downstairs and a church upstairs. She also mentioned some ghost sightings of "the lady in blue" hence a drink named after her! We had mussels that were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly in white wine and tomatoes. My daughter had the baked macaroni and cheese. My other daughter had mussels and linguini. My best friend and I had "lady in blue and candy corn-Tinis" Everything was amazing and I'm so glad Rockafellas was our first dinner here! Shout out to Julie again! She's a keeper! read more

Our waiter was upset that we didn't order a lot of food, even though the restaurant was only half full and we visited in the off season. He made a comment along of the lines of "I guess mom isn't paying for you." He asked where we were from and when we said Kentucky he said he "could tell" in a condescending manner.
