We have been here a few times. We had buffalo wings which were large crispy and had an excellent flavor. My husband had a burger which was cooked perfectly. I had a hot lobster roll. It was good but personally I feel like you should not add anything to it. They mixed in some green parsley or something like that which made it just ok for me. Also, New England in summer is prime lobster season. I felt quality for this time of year was not up to par. They have a nice outdoor deck area which we enjoy. The bathroom was filthy though. Visited this place for an early dinner on a Sunday. At the time we went there weren't many customers so we were seated and orders were taken quickly. The restaurant has a great view of the water, so ask for a table with a view. Quick tip! Check in once you get in, they will give you a discounted beer just for checking in, which I did. Not too bad at all. For starters we had the New England Clam Chowder which was hearty and delicious, hit the spot on a very cold day. Next we had a half dozen oysters which were very good. For our entrees I had the surf and turf and my gf had the duck. Both meals were cooked well, the temperature was fine and on my meal they substituted the risotto for mashed potatoes and it was not a big ordeal, some restaurants make it so difficult. Loved this place! The staff- very nice, welcoming. Everyone from our table runners, hostesses, waitress's was great (except our waitress never came over to see how our food came out so my husband had to eat the wrong meal but she tried to make up for it at the end) The view is incredible! There are two large patios that overlook the river. One allows you to view the live music. They also have a bunch of adinroneck chairs on the lawn for you to sit and listen to the live entertainment. The food to me was exceptional. I got the Golden beet salad with salmon that was cooked to perfection and they had the best citrus vinaigrette. I also got a side of sauteed vegetables. My husband got the fried calamari. Even though it came with half the stuff he thought it did the calamari was cooked very well and came with a delicious marinara sauce. We started off with bread that was served warm with a herbed butter which was fantastic. I really enjoyed this place and definitely want to go back soon! read more

For her birthday dinner, my daughter wanted a view of the water with seating outside. She had called Rocks21 and they said no problem. When we got there they had set a table for us inside; it was obvious that they hadn't even opened the outside albeit it was still somewhat cool. We insisted that we wanted outside so they did accommodate us. My son in law stepped outside to have a smoke and unbeknown to the staff, he overheard them complaining about us and the fact that they had to set up a table outside etc. wow talk about being accommodating and welcomed! While the appetizers were good, the dinners I would consider sub par to say the least. The short rib dinner was a tiny piece of meat on top lobster mashed potatoes. Hardly enough meat for a small person. Scallops did not taste fresh and my sausage over rabe was way over cooked. Never again. read more

I walked over here from The Mystic Inn as they offer a 15% discount if staying at the hotel. I was immediately impressed by how quaint and inviting it looks on the outside as well as inside. No clue why there are so many negative reviews! Upon walking in I was greeted by a young guy at the hostess stand. I told him I how thought the hotel and restaurant alike were beautiful and charming. He told me that it was their slow time of year but I'd honestly prefer it personally. It wasn't overly crowded but had many tables full. I had an awesome time on the Tuesday evening I visited while sitting in the bar area during trivia night. It was a fun vibe! I ordered a Bloody Mary to start, a water and the bacon wrapped scallops. Bloody Mary tasted amazing but was far too spicy for me! I drank about half and told my waiter it was good but my sinuses were already open from the little bit I did drink. I switched to jack and coke. Raul - my server was great! Very well trained, friendly and fun! The scallops came out quickly, looked and smelled amazing and tasted fresh! On this night they close at 9pm. It was just after 8 when I flagged Raul over and asked to order the lobster truffle Mac n cheese and another jack and coke. I told him that I'd be ordering a desert to go as well and asked what he recommended. He listed three deserts and I chose the chocolate truffle cake. (Btw, Ianything truffle!) Trivia was wrapping up as my Mac n cheese came out. I had a few bites and Oh My God! SO good!! Definitely recommend trying! Besides being beautiful, the lobster chunks within were large and tasted fresh. I grabbed another drink which the bartender put in a to-go cup....a welcomed add-on! Lovely patio area however the food didn't live up to our hopes. The drinks seemed very weak, the food was bland and the service was poor. I would not reorder anything we had at the table and we tried two apps and two entrees. Waited a long time to order drinks, one of the apps came out with our entrees even after specifically requesting time between courses, and we waited a long time for our check. We're locals and we were hoping this would be a new summer go-to for outdoor dining based on location but we won't be back. Only reason we gave this two stars is because we did think the patio was pretty and it was a lovely evening. read more

This is a great spot. Live music/ambiance/view is great, but the service and some food items are lacking. Drinks are good. We went here for dinner and sat out on the patio. It was 20 minutes before anyone came to our table period. The waitress came by after that with water and took our drink order. I saw the bartender make them, and then they sat on the bar for 15 minutes even though the waitress walked by them on the bar numerous times. A runner came out with our food, walked all the way around the patio with it, I tried getting his attention, and he went back inside with it and left it on the bar for several minutes before it was brought back out to us. Halfway through dinner we ordered another drink, we finished eating and I could see the bartender never even made it, so we had to tell the waitress never mind. Calamari app was good as well as the Vermont burger. I got a flatbread pizza. It may as well have been made on the lowest quality flatbread you could buy from Walmart. I never leave food behind at restaurants but didn't ask for a box for the half of this I didn't eat because it just was not good at all. We came back for their lobster nachos!!!! To die for! They fry the tortillas for chips - thin and crispy! It's loaded with lobster that you need more chips to finish it. Entrees here are on the pricey side, for sure. The lobster nachos ($20), while tasty, had the amount of lobster which was equal of half a lobster roll. The Margarita pizza ($15) had no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. No olive oil on top. Dried up tomatoes. It was no bigger than my two hands. One of the worst flatbreads I've ever had. The mushroom stuffed shrimp appetizer (2 SMALL shrimp for $15??), while tasty, was rather sodium laden. Three stars only because of the aestethics and great view. read more

Went out to dinner for my fiancées birthday. We are not from the area but we're staying in Mystic for the night and this place was on a list given to us by our hotel. This was one of my top ten favorite seafood meals I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly and everything was seasoned beautifully. I had the seafood paella and my fiancée had the seafood pot pie and both were heavenly and decent size portions. Not to mention the service was incredible! Walking in we were greeted by two of the younger staff and then at the hostess desk we got another warm greeting from the hostesses as well. We had a reservation outside and were seated right away on the deck. I've eaten everywhere, 21 has the friendliest staff on the planet. Everything is yes, of course, checked on us the perfect amount of times. Food was amazing, view, clean... service amazing. Kate our server was great! I'd recommend asking for her tables when you make a reservation. So friendly and perfect. The manager was also great. Location is perfect walking distance from town and tourists staying by Mystic Village could probably walk to it, but Uber back... Drink menu and variety is very good. Live music most nights. Outside areas below the deck to sit and eat and hang out are great... there's also lots of room inside with a great long bar to sit and eat or drink with tv. Pricing is good. From salads to sandwiches, giant burgers and entrees, portions are more than fair and larger than average for the pricing... I'm actually surprised to see so many negative reviews. We stayed at Inn at Mystic and decided to try Rocks 21. To my surprise they were good. We had fish and chips, calamari and tacos, we loved it all. Next day we hit happy hour and we were also very happy with our veggie quesadilla and nachos. Crab cakes were ok, They were too muchie for me, I like them lumpy. I would take 1/2 star off for service, when we walked in old lady server was too tired to help us, since we were sitting at the pool. However bartender girl was amazing and helped us just fine. Beer selection is great, my hubby loves beer. It's not an upscale place more like an upscale bar with great food. read more

It was a bit over breaded, and I don't think it was fresh (no tentacles), but still good. Our meals were excellent. My husband had the shrimp scampi and said it was the best he'd ever had. I was excited to have a nice dinner with my boyfriend at last! We don't share the same days off and finally we did! The place has a beautiful view and great potential! We sat at one of the decks with only 4 tables. Two parties left and their tables as well as another table that was vacant when we sat down remained dirty for about a good 20 minutes. Sat with no utensils or napkins. Waitress took our order and never saw her again! I went inside to ask if the tables could be cleaned. Birds were eating off of them! Finally a friendly 18 year old waitress offered to clean it up! She was really nice! I tipped her as a thank you! The waitress finally came to help but not until the other girl had cleaned most of it! Waitress was wearing her mask at her neck! May as well not wear one! We had a great meal here! We were a party of 10 and we made a reservation for outdoor seating. We ended up on our own private deck! We were so well taken care of by our waitress and a team of bus boys. Our food was delicious. Apps were good and meals were excellent. Every person in our party was happy with their order. We ordered dessert and it was all very plentiful servings that were great for sharing. We had been here before a few years ago and it was average but tonight's meal and service was outstanding. First of all, if you can snag a table on the deck overlooking the water, that's three stars right there. Another positive is that they take reservations on Open Table. I appreciated that the menu had variety and there were quite a few things that I could have ordered. We ordered guac and salsa for the table. Generous and flavorful (and I think the guac was house-made) portions of each came in tortilla bowls but the chips to dip desperately needed salt. The two teen boys had flatbread pizzas, each the size of the menu. My friend had the fisherman's platter - broiled - and I'm pretty sure she enjoyed it. I had one of the best Caesar salads I ever had -- and I'm a self-proclaimed connoisseur. I also got the mussels app. Regretfully the mussels were small, about 3-4 of the shells weren't steamed open, and they were really salty. The setting and he Caesar easily bumped this rating from okay to good. I would come back in a heartbeat and try some of their other dishes. read more

Went here for the thanksgiving buffet, been to it when the former owners offered the Thanksgiving Buffet This no way compared to what our previous experience was. The Food , and Ambiance were both lacking. The staff at the Buffet were useless. Items no labeled handles and serving spoons sticky and some laid on the floor! Also Not your authentic Thanksgiving Menu. Asparagus had the tough stringy ends attached. The cheese cake was still frozen. The stuffing was very dry and mashed potatoes were very sticky and gooey . It was also very expensive for what you were offered. Out table was poorly lite in a corner with a view of the motel. Needless to say we were very disappointed. Reserved a table for 2 and asked for a window view on Thanksgiving day. We got there 20 minutes early and were seated in a room, facing the inn, along a wall, at a small table. I asked for another table along side a window ( water view), but was told no, because of the holiday. The dinner was a buffet, mind you a seafood restaurant, and no shellfish was offered. There was only a baked cod dish and Manhattan clam chowder. The rest was the standard turkey dinner and prime rib, and a chicken dish, basic sides and desserts. It was ok. The hostess was not friendly and the manager unhelpful in making the effort to accommodate us. Serving staff was great. When we left, all the tables facing the water were still not occupied. This is NO WHERE NEAR as good as Harbour House. Don't let past reviews convince you to come in here. We just drove 5 hours for the scallops and guess what...they aren't cooked in the brick oven anymore (the menu still claims they are, as well as the wings, but we watched the entire time and nothing went in there). Both items were severely undercooked. I couldn't even tear the skin off the wings and husband had to spit out the last scallop. The bacon on them was loose and chewy as well. They weren't served in the sizzling cast iron pan and had no where near the honey needed that made this dish what it was. The wings were an order of 6, all drummettes no flats. Not sure why. And they aren't served with blue cheese or even a variation...it is a warm cucumber ranch that doesn't do its job since it's warm. And the wings arrived lukewarm after a 10 minute wait which means they were most likely reheated. Judging by the chewy skin I'd guess microwaved. Read my last review...I know how these USED to taste. Finally the rearranged bar area destroyed what we loved most of this place. The brick oven used to be behind the bar but they moved the bar to the other side of the main room. We loved watching the food being prepared right in front of us...but I guess they can't let you see microwaved reheats and food advertised as brick oven when it's not. read more

To start I walked in with two young children and an infant. The hostess puts me in the bar area with loud music. I asked to go into another dining room, after we sit down and order who appeared to be the owner walks into the room pointing to the table that my family and I are sitting at and says at 7o'clock I want this table and that table. Looking at our watch it's 6 o'clock so we knew we had to rush to get out of there because he just came in and wanted those tables. The hostess never brought crayons or anything to the table, I went to the hostess stand and got them Myself. The carpet looked dirty, the menu was outdated. It's April and they have butternut squash for a seasonal entrée. No specials. The waitress looked uninterested and only kept glaring at the table because I know the owner wanted us out of there. My first visit to HH went with a friend to see a band that was going to preform so we went early so we could eat dinner before the show. Order filet migon we were surprised that for such a beautiful resturant that they don't offer bread while you wait, I asked our server if they have a bread basket while we wait for our food her comment "I will see what I can find?" After a long few minutes she comes back with some rolls that were very hard but somewhat warm. Then a little while later our dinner plates arrive which we asked the server which one is the medium rare she had to take them back to get clarification. We were both a little surprised that the meal doesn't come with a vegetable or a side salad. Our service was not up to what it should be the waitress was not the best she was more attentive to another table so much so that it was as if we were a bother to her. Very difficult to get her attention to get our water refilled. We ended up going to the bar a few times for water. When we finally got her attention for the bill which took some time, which quite honestly I would of loved to see the dessert menu, but our waitress never even asked if we wanted dessert.
