Went here for Thanksgiving. Just me and my mom. Absolutely amazing!!! They had a Thanksgiving buffet. Turkey, ham, prime rib, chicken Masala, pomegranate salmon, seafood pot pie & a bunch of side options plus dessert. Every staff member was in a great mood and extremely friendly. Everything was delicious. The pies were made in house but the cakes were ordered out (all amazing regardless). The view from the windows was spectacular, you could see the water and all of mystic. The staff told us about the pool in the summer & all the events they take part in. We will 100% be back. read more

This place is trying to punch above its weight class. The food was okay, but not worth the prices charged. My son had a burger that was supposed to have a tomato jelly, bacon and cheddar cheese, but there were either not there or such small amounts it was hard to notice. We were then presented with paper menus that were confusing, and a server that did not want to stick around. They were out of the wine we wanted, and the beer we wanted. The beer list was confusing, it would list a brewery, but not the specific beer, or a style of beer, but not the brewery that made it. They were out of items on the menu and had to make substitutions. We will not be returning to this restaurant any time soon. The location is nice, and we were seated on the outdoor deck with a nice view of the river. But they had a broken umbrella to block the sun and it just kept falling over or getting in the way. I'm torn on this one. The main dining room and bar are decent. The deck provides nice outdoor dining and views. Our server was terrific. It's a bit of a hidden location - a short drive away from the two tourist corridors - so it's easier to get a spot here in the peak summer season. And a really nice beer selection, which is a personal bonus for me. There are some Adirondack chairs outside, too, if you want drinks with a decent view. On the downside: it's an older building and therefore, a bit outdated. You'll find no greater evidence of this than the bathrooms, tiny and down in the basement. The lawn is a bit unkempt. The deck could use some shade (very hot in the summer sun). I don't feel like I have a good handle on the food, because it was one visit and we only had appetizers and drinks. So I'll withhold judgement. My gut feeling is this should be a casual place, but it's trying to be a little too fancy. I'd focus on $15 burgers and $30 steaks with mashed potatoes. Throw in the traditional selections of a seaside place - like lobster rolls and scallops. And chicken fingers for the kids. Keep it simple. Don't try to dress everything up with rosemary fig jam and port wine demi sauce. There is an identity confusion here for me. Either glam the place up or just make it a tavern menu. read more

It was a bad night for us, and their seafood. I do not think I ever had 4 out of 8 people have an awful meal at a restaurant. Nor have I ever had a worse piece of fish ever. The strawberry margarita was the only thing worthy of giving this restaurant any stars. It was yummy! We arrived at 6:45pm for our 7pm reservation time, which was fine because they weren't very busy. They seated us quickly. Our waitress was sweet, and none of the following was her fault at all. The hostess never explained that we needed to us a QR code to access the menu, nor did she give us the sign with the QR code on it. We waited about 15 minutes for our waitress to come over to tell us that. Ordered our drinks, those took at least 20 minutes to arrive. Then we ordered our meals, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the Restaurant Week specials. It literally took at least 45 minutes to get our first course. I ordered the pear salad, another ordered the clam chowder and the other guest ordered fried calamari. The pear salad was awful - too sweet, the dressing had no tartness to it at all. Clam chowder was good according to my sister, and the fried calamari was delicious according to my niece and her BF. Fast forward another 45 minutes, and we had to ask when we would be receiving our main course. The waitress looked stressed, she knew the back of the house was having some major difficulties. She apologized. Finally, once we received our main course, the butternut squash ravioli was lukewarm and chewy. My sister had the Rib Eye which she said was good, she gave me her asparagus and it was cold and overcooked. My niece had the fisherman's platter which she said was good, but they didn't give her the mashed potato/steamed veggies. They accidentally gave her the french fries and coleslaw. She's not a "Karen" so she didn't complain and just dealt with it. Her BF got the Fried cod/french fries, which he said were good. The restaurant week deal included dessert. Well, we then waited at least another 30 minutes after we finished dinner to ask the waitress if our dessert would be out soon. There were no other guests in our area of the restaurant by this point (8:45pm). I asked to speak to the manager due to the extreme wait times, (yes, according to my niece, I am a Karen). He came over and apologized but offered nothing but an apology. Didn't expedite the dessert or even offer to comp anything. We were about to leave and they dessert finally showed up. I ordered the pumpkin bread pudding w/vanilla ice cream - which was a cold chewy lump on a plate and they served it with chocolate ice cream. My sister and niece's BF received the brownie sundae, which they said wasn't very good. It was supposed to be served with vanilla ice cream, toffee crunch, and whip cream. It came with chocolate ice cream, no whip cream or toffee crunch. We each only took a bite. And I'm a dessert lover, but it was bad, horrible in fact. The sweet waitress at least took one drink order off the bill due to my complaint about the dessert. So in summary, the best parts of the night were the strawberry margaritas and the great conversation with my sister, niece and her BF. Not worth the $150+ bill! Second time giving this spot a try (due to convenience mostly) and was equally as unimpressed with the food as the first time. I ordered a 'spinach and kale salad' for dinner (one of the few vegetarian options that didn't have 10000 calories in it) and was served the tiniest little bowl of approx 15 spinach leaves with a few walnuts and salty dressing on top. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement... That being said, everyone else at my table enjoyed their meals and were pleased with their portions. Lesson being: don't order the spinach and kale salad. The ambiance here was decent, they had a live band ('Styff Kitty' - they were INCREDIBLE) and an extensive drink menu. Just had Easter brunch at Rocks 21. The food variety was pretty good. But for a $65 buffet I was expecting a cold seafood bar and better selection of fresh fruit (fruit was basically melons with some pineapple). There was an omelette station (fantastic spinach bacon cheese omelette), two meat carving stations, bread, a couple of different green salads, vegetables, mashed potatoes, salmon. Dessert table had pre cut desserts in platters such as: cheesecake, carrot cake, some kind of chocolate cake and apple crisp that looked house made. The omelette was delicious as I mentioned, the prime beef was good but a little dry, brócoli & mashed potatoes were also very good. My daughter enjoyed her mimosa and the winter sangria. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Our waiter was attentive as I said so as we started to slow down with our eating we let him know we were slowing down and I ask for a hot tea and my husband went for his final round for the dessert. He did comment about how long it was taking to get the check. Next time we see our waiter we let him know we are done. But we were enjoying the view, I'm sipping my tea and next thing we know a lady who was working the front of the restaurant comes to tell us we are taking too long that we have to leave. I told her we were waiting for the check. I felt terrible thinking were holding up a table for a family waiting to have their Easter brunch. But no!, no one was waiting at the front and there were plenty of seats to be had around the restaurant. So, the omelette, vegetables and drinks were good but rest of the food was mediocre. Nothing short of a perfect meal. 3 adults, 3 kids. The view is stunning. Weather perfect Too. Our server Samantha is super sweet and friendly. Very attentive and informative. A sunny super hot day and she was in a mask but didn't miss a beat. The food was fabulous. We had coconut shrimp which had eat flavor and was crispy. The shrimp cocktail was sweet and fresh. The artichoke dip had a great smoky flavor and plenty of chips. Lobster roll was really fresh and stuffed with lobster, salads were awesome. Great sized portions. We took extras home. The food was pretty good. No complaints, but nothing was the best we had ever had. The service was, by far, laughably awful. Tim, the server, continued reaching across my face to serve the whole table. He did not read us any specials nor explain anything about the menu. We never got bread and sat there wondering why we had ordered and gotten nothing to tide us over. When our soup arrived, I asked what these bread plates were for? Soon after, Tim finally arrived with bread and other condiments he didn't explain and he smelled like cigarettes. Despite the hostess making excuses for Tim that he had a big party (of 8 as compared to our 6), apparently, he also needed a smoke break. The rest of the meal was the same. Our entrees didn't come out until 90 minutes after we'd arrived. We rarely saw Tim which was too bad for him-- he'd have sold more alcohol! We had to request to hear dessert menus, but he just told us about 2. We just ordered coffee, but Tim said they only had decaf left. It was clear that the staff wished we had gone by 9:30 (2 hours after arrival). Sadly, we would have happily been out of there by then if they hadn't been so slow and negligent. We later found out that nothing was done to help us celebrate. When we told her we were ordering from the restaurant week menu, she immediately copped an attitude. Our food was mediocre at best. The worst part was we waited for dessert for at least 50 minutes. When we asked what was taking so long, our waitress deflected and blame to the cooks due to high party numbers . Absolutely do not go here during COVID. Our server frequently had his mask off and moved between tables like that. They sat us 3 feet apart at most. They moved creamers and sugars from table to table without sanitizing them. This place was not safe per current regulations and laws. The food was cold but tasted fine. The location is amazing, quiet possibly the best location in the Mystic area. BUT, the service leaves much to be desired. There were 10 of us there last night listening to the great Dan Watson. We sat at our table for maybe 30 mins before we could order a drink and after another hour, we hadn't even been approached for a 2nd drink. One of our group cancelled their food and cashed out as our server was quiet impolite to him, when he tried to order another drink. Covid is no excuse for this, in my humble opinion it's a lack of talented Servers. Rocks21 has a fantastic opportunity to attract the locals but they're blown it, it's sad as there is huge opportunity as Mystic continues to grow. read more

This place was...okay Not great, but not terrible. Started with the coconut shrimp which came right out of the fryer, so they were nice and hot. My fiancée ordered the hot lobster roll, and I got the salmon Cobb salad. The lobster roll came served with a side of melted butter, which I thought was odd. Why should I be doing half of the work for the restaurant and buttering my own lobster roll? The bun did not get toasted, which was an oversight. Ame with a side of fries that were interestingly cut. Sort of like a steak fry but spiraled. Pretty creative. Overall it wasn't the best lobster roll we've ever had. The salmon cobb salad was delicious, once I finally got it. Originally they brought me a cobb salad with grilled chicken and I had to wait to have a new salad made. Once it came, it tasted great and had a very generous portion of salmon. The waiter was incredibly apologetic and offered to give us a free dessert for the kitchen's screw up. Even the manager stopped by to apologize. I ended up only being charged for the regular cobb instead of the $25 for the salmon cobb. read more

First restaurant we tried in Connecticut. We sat on the deck which is NOT on the water but does have a water view. We were here on a Monday at 1:30. We should have taken it as a "sign" when the party next to us turned to us and said, "Have you ever seen stuffed mushrooms this small?" and frankly, we had not! Stuffed buttons? It was humorous. My hubby suggested that perhaps they use tweezers and a scope to stuff. Our drinks arrived. My sister-in-law said her "summer sangria" was the worst she has had. We waited and waited and waited for our food to arrive. The waitress never checked back with us during this time period for refills etc. The clam strips were good. My husband's grilled fish tacos were OK but the serving plate was too narrow and as it was served the toppings were falling onto the table. My scallops on my $25 salad were so over-cooked- think croquet balls! I asked for new ones, everyone else was done eating by the time I got my new scallops. Then the bill arrives and they charged $3 more for the soup of the day- we had to get that corrected. As we were ready to leave, I was brought a tea refill. I used the bathroom and the baseboard had not been washed, the toilet paper roll was sitting half in the sink, just gross. Highly don't recommend! read more

I have to say, I had high hopes for this new restaurant that opened in town. I was 100% disappointed with the service, as our "waitress" left us unattended for over 20 minutes with no water. She brought our food over and had us move the table next to us to put our oysters & shrimp on as she was holding them in her hands (which we asked for to come out first) along with the rest of our food. Then when it came to eating... the shrimp were certainly old as well as frozen (not fresh). They had a strange texture to them. As far as the oysters, I wouldn't even classify what they brought us as oysters. Terrible to have that happen at a so-called "seafood restaurant". Highly disappointed and unsatisfied. Our waitress didn't ask if anything was wrong when she came to take away the untouched seafood in front of us. And brought us our $168 tab. We paid and left a very generous tip because we have been in the food industry as well so we know how it is. If you are expecting a great meal, do yourself and your family a favor and take your business elsewhere! This place is no good! Just had a lovely lunch on the outside deck. The views are gorgeous and it was a great place to escape the Mystic crowds. This is my first visit. Had the lobster nachos -- amazing! They came with a lemon cream drizzle that is heaven. My beet salad with chicken was very good but might be beat out by my friend's lobster avocado salad. Another friend enjoyed the fish and chips. The generous portion of fish was perfectly battered and fried. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was casual New England with lawn seating another option. It is very possible that after nearly a decade of frequently visiting the Mystic area that I have become accustomed to good food. We like to try all of the restaurants in the area, and have never had a bad meal...until tonight. We started with the wood fired buffalo wings and the mussels. The wings seemed promising because there was a poster in the entrance stating they were being nominated for the areas best. The mussels sounded like a sure thing because it's mystic, how could mussels taste bad? Just because wings are "wood fired" does not mean they have to be burnt. I admit I do not have a lot of buffalo wings while in this area, but if this is the best I am moving here with a deep fryer and a bottle of "Franks red hot". The mussels were not even close to fresh. Very fishy. Obviously frozen. Inedible. I left the entire plate almost untouched which shockingly did not even raise an eyebrow of the server. Dinner was truffle scallops with mashed potatoes. I have seen better plate presentation at all you can eat Chinese buffets. It looked like the chef threw it across the room before serving it. Pretty flavorless unfortunately but I was starving after the unappetizing appetizers. The wife had a lump crab sandwich. Bitterly cold and flavorless. I have 2 stars because while the waitress was very slow, she was pleasant. Also, the fries were pretty good. I will not be back and my advice is to try some of the good restaurants in the town instead. read more

My first experience with Harbour House wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either. It was a Friday night and my boyfriend, his parents, and myself were heading to dinner somewhere in Mystic. Because it is the summer and downtown is usually flooded with tourists, we decided to try to find somewhere that would accommodate us with last minute reservations, and that was Harbour House at the time. My second visit at Harbour House the following week, but only to hit the bar and watch the Red Sox game. When dining in, we were sat outside on the patio, which did have a really nice view. Our server was polite and did provide good service throughout the meal. I am in the middle of the road on this one because of a few different things. Mind you, I did not have an unpleasant experience, just not anything thrilling. List as follows: -Limited spirits selection The bar is not fully stocked and has a small variety of liquors. They don't even have carry a rye. At least invest in a bottle of Bulleit rye. -Decent entrees The entrees were not anything to write home about. The fish and chips were good, but again...nothing special. I was disappointed with the quality of one of the T-bone steaks ordered. It looked as if someone took the steak and cut it in half. It didn't have the fullness of a normal T-bone. -Delicious appetizers During my second visit I sat at the bar and ordered a few different apps. The apps included calamari, clam fritters, and bacon wrapped scallops. My personal favorite was the calamari. It was cooked to a perfect crispiness and lightly tossed in a delicious sauce. The clam fritters were just right, not too dense and golden on the outside. My biggest qualm came about when I was sitting at the bar. They have this beautiful brick pizza oven, where in which they use these pre-made flat breads. It seemed like they have enough of a demand for flatbreads to have fresh dough on hand instead of using the sad looking flats. I noticed that each flatbread was either overcooked or under cooked. There was just no consistency in the color of the crusts or the toppings. It just seemed the crusts didn't really crisp up like they would if it was fresh dough. I sat and watched flatbreads be made for hours, I just did not get it. Overall, a good place to go as a last minute option. I would not make it my number one destination, but I would give it a chance. I enjoyed my bar experience a lot more than my dining experience. read more

Absolutely worst meal I've encountered from the wait to the service to the food. Unfortunately this newer restaurant, with its renovation was a disaster for Valentines dinner. In fact, I don't even see what the renovations added to the restaurant. I seems more boxes in and the fireplace is now fake fire! We had a reservation and had to wait 20 mins for our table. Then we sat another 25 min before anyone came to our table. No water, nothing. We wanted to leave, but knowing if was Valentines dinner in a small town, we were worried about finding somewhere else to eat. The waitress Melanie, who was inappropriately dressed, wearing a tunic shirt as a dress and the control top of her panty hose showing, was so rude and acted as if we were a bother to her. She had absolutely NO personality and behaved in a passive aggressive manner. We kept thinking it's got to get better...honestly, the only thing that was somewhat tasty had to wait until dessert! The Prosecco was barely chilled, the lobster Bisque was SO salty and had no pieces of lobster, the dumplings tasted frozen, and when my entree arrived, the stuffed shrimp were were not edible. I had to send the dish back. I was done at that point and refused another dish to come to me. Although my fiancé ordered the steak medium, it came out red and bloody. The potatoes served was a squared off potato that was baked. It was tasteless, dry and just not edible. Even the veggies were dry and tasteless. Over the years the Inn at Mystic has gone through 3 different restaurants. Not always great, but if the food was ok the service was amazing. If the service was lacking, the food was amazing. When waitress finally came back we told her, and she apologized and brought out 1 taco with fish in it, not the 3 that came in an order! Learned about this place on a blog I stumbled on while researching Mystic for a day getaway. The food was delicious! I had the flood tide crepes which were out of this world! Chock full of lobster in a cream sauce- to die for! I also had seared and blackened scallops, so fresh and tasty! My boyfriend had the burger and loved it! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the chocolate mousse Cake tasted like it sat uncovered in the refrigerator- it was hard and tasted old. I had SUCH high hopes for the place and even came here to look for a venue for my engagement party. The place is super cute and has amazing foods but the food was unfortunately disappointing. I grew up in Connecticut but live in LA so wanted a bomb New England lobster roll, which Rocks21 did not deliver. Had a reservation for Valentines Day, had to wait 10 minutes but that's to be expected on a busy night, was seated and no one came to us for about 10 minutes, ordered wine and the waitress showed up 15 minutes later with that, tables around us were served bread and water but we weren't. Lobster bisque was salty and I tasted NO lobster, dumplings had NO fillings, my husbands food was rare instead of med and he sent it back and it came back the same way with a different kind of potato. Salmon was over cooked. The waitress never came to check on us. She lost two couples while we were there because they were also not being served. Just terrible! Never again.
