The meal started with the perkiest positive waitress I have ever seen. With her positive attitude, we were excited to order and enjoy our meals. Haleigh is a gem for this eatery. The cocktails were unique and okay. But the real winners were the Oysters, Fried Mozzarella, delicious bright dressing on the salads, and the Meatloaf was out of this world. WOW! All I can say is wow! Everything about this place was awesome. love the vibe! we just happened to come upon this place looking for a great spot to eat and we were not disappointed. Our waiter Dylan was awesome. He suggested a substitution that I would not be aware of. We started out with the fried green tomatoes and we had the specials beef medallions and the Chilean sea bass and finished off with the brownie dessert. Even the coffee was delicious. Crab cakes forty some bucks? Shrimp and grits, 5 small shrimp swimming in a lake of grits. Asked for bread with large salad and got pinged for $3 additional charge. A over $100 dinner for two and a charge for some bread? Really? Booze, $31 for Makers Mark. Almost enough to buy a fifth! You've succeeded in running us away. Rocktown Kitchen exemplifies everything wrong in the post-Covid food services industry. $50+ per person, no apps, no alcohol, with tax + tip. Caveat Emptor Update - 12 Nov: Comment addressing Rocktown Kitchen's reply to my original post: As expected, Rocktown has proven the reason why they deserved the low review: attack the reviewer with false statements while not addressing the claims of overpriced, cold, poor quality food. What a great place! First off, our server was fantastic. Well trained, knowledgeable, asked about if we had any food allergies, offered extra plates or an extra steak knife since we we're sharing our entrees with each other. We ordered the fried mozzarella and both specials of the evening. Both were perfectly cooked and wonderful flavor. We had the sea bass with cauliflower risotto and okra, and the beef medallions with buttermilk mashed potatoes, bacon wrapped scallops, and asparagus. Fantastic!!!! We will be back!! Four stars for presentation and ambience and three stars for the food. If the food tasted as good as it looks, I may have even gone to five-star. Our party of four had the steak special which was a ribeye, we had a shrimp and grits and two orders of meatloaf. The meatloaf was the hit of all the items but I'm not so sure if the glaze they used complemented the meatloaf. The mac & cheese was tasty but barely warm and certainly not one of the best I ever had. The string beans were cooked perfectly. The steak was beautiful but had a grainy texture to it. The shrimp and grits were a little over cheesy and they used a very very fine grit that I don't think played well. It was also accompanied With an andouille sausage that was way too spicy for the shrimp and grits And detracted from the overall taste. After some apparent confusion by the wait staff when we changed tables, the server was very attentive. read more

This place is amazing. My wife and I went for our anniversary. I had the the oysters for an appetizerwhich were cooked perfectly and a good portion. My wife ordered the crab cakes for dinner with sweet potato fries. She loved it. The crab cakes were big and full of flavor and not bread. The fries were really crispy and soft in the inside. The sauces they had paired perfect with both. It also came with a pineapple and cucumber salad which my wife couldn't eat because of the cilantro so I did and it was very bright with some heat on the back end. I had the Friday special which was fish and chips. I was not disappointed. Fresh, crispy and another hearty portion. I will definitely be back next time I am in the area. Couple of spots opened up at the bar, so we were lucky to get a quick space. Always enjoy sitting at the bar, it's like dinner and a show! Barkeep took great care of us! Fast friendly service, delicious drinks, excellent food. Fried oysters were perfect over greens, lightly breaded, perfectly cooked. While our service was great and the ambience was nice, we had a somewhat disappointing experience here. My fiancé ordered the grilled octopus salad and he immediately knew it was out of a can, or at least didn't taste fresh. The pita points that came on the side were so hard and overcooked, that it made it almost impossible to enjoy. I got the beef short ribs and was expecting something different then what came out. It almost looked like a roast instead of individual beef short ribs. The food was mediocre at best. I think this establishment is aiming to be more of a "fine dining" scale but it just missed the mark for us. read more

Amazing!! This will most definitely be our new special occasion restaurant. I wish I had taken pictures of all our food, but it was all too good to wait for picture taking. We got fried oysters appetizer, fried mozzarella appetizer, New York strip with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and wild mushroom linguini with shrimp. We also had a delicious creme brûlée for dessert. It was soooo good and the portion sizes were great. We were in Harrisonburg for one night, on our way up to Pennsylvania. It happened to be our 42nd anniversary and we wanted a nice dinner out. The food and service at Rocktown Kitchen put it towards the top of the 42 for us. We had the Wild Mushroom & Sweet Vermouth Linguini and the Dill Mustard Salmon, with wine and then Creme Brûlée for dessert. That was the food, the service was great, with fascinating conversation and we ended up stopping by Mount Pellier on our way home thanks to our server E's description. The food here is really good. Fried green tomatoes are amazing. Most things are expensive but not too crazy. Unforunately we ordered the fish and chips to go on a Friday night and there was no price on the website but I figured it would be reasonable, yet it was $24. That seems a bit like gouging to me, when a burger and fries from here is $14. If I'd have known it was going to be so outrageously priced for a couple of pieces of fried fish, a teeny tiny portion of Cole slaw, and a bunch if fries, I definitely wouldn't have ordered it. I would have gotten a steak. That at least makes sense for that price. Not sure why their fish and chips are so expensive. read more
