The food here is really good. Fried green tomatoes are amazing. Most things are expensive but not too crazy. Unforunately we ordered the fish and chips to go on a Friday night and there was no price on the website but I figured it would be reasonable, yet it was $24. That seems a bit like gouging to me, when a burger and fries from here is $14. If I'd have known it was going to be so outrageously priced for a couple of pieces of fried fish, a teeny tiny portion of Cole slaw, and a bunch if fries, I definitely wouldn't have ordered it. I would have gotten a steak. That at least makes sense for that price. Not sure why their fish and chips are so expensive. read more

Stopped by Saturday evening and had an enjoyable time with friends. We all ordered the evening's special: prime rib. I don't recall being asked how we'd like it cooked; I've been at other restaurants that do. I was perfectly happy with medium rare but my friends weren't. They sent theirs back but it came back tasting off. My plate was also significantly cold when it was brought out. I also asked for extra mashed potatoes, and while I qas told it was served on the same plate, it looked the same as my friends who did not order double mashed. Wine selections were nice. It was a busy night and around 7pm only outdoor seating was available. I wish they had turned the patio heaters on. I understand it was a busy night but for the price point I expected a bit more "wow." read more

Okay ppl, as you know I am pretty harsh on restaurant reviews sometimes but its only because I have been in the restaurant biz before and there is a different expectation for those of us who know the restaurant biz. That being said let me tell you Rocktown Kitchen deserves this 5 star review. Now I understand this was MY experience and certainly not everyone has the same experience but our first time here was worth it. We called on a whim last minute on a Saturday night to see if we could get in for dinner thinking there is no way but alas, we were granted access. We sat outside on their small patio and it was so nice and although tight space, they do make it work. We were lucky enough to have a great server and although the hostesses could maybe use a smidge more friendlier attitude towards PAYING customers, it was still a very nice evening. Food was wonderful, we were not rushed, and everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Bravo to the chef! We had the prime rib and it was a bit on the small side (cut wise) but still very good. We will definitely return. read more

We visited for a few days between CHristmas and New Year's and this was by far our favorite restaurant in the area. We came for dinner on our first day and got the salmon and grilled chicken-- both simple but very well cooked. The couscous that came with both was very well done. We ended up coming back the next day for lunch and was equally wowed by the fried mozzarella, salmon sandwich and fried oysters. Fantastic service and great food. I'd recommend this over Chop House or other expensive spots in the area. read more

Very unpleasant experience. I chose this restaurant based on the Yelp rating and i am very disappointed. On my way to the restaurant I called to make a reservation for 3 people. They took my name down and when we arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes later, we and the rest of the guests had to wait for 5 minutes for the hostesses to show up and take us to our table. Another 10 minutes wait for our waiter Mathew to show up. He was a nice guy and apologized for the delay. We ordered the food and 20 min later he told us that the kitchen is out of Salmon so my son ordered another meal. After 1 hr the 2 sandwiches and Buffalo Wings orders got served and our waiter told us the kitchen is out of onion ring side order. So we ordered French Fries. The French Fries got served without ketchup so we had to ask for it. Finally the bill comes and I noticed that the side salad that is supposed to be an extra $5, got charged as a small salad for $8. And when I asked for adjustment they said the onion ring / French Fries was the free side order if we add salad we have to pay for full price. In the positive side, the food was decent and the staffs were polite. Long wait, slow service and lack of food inventory are the reasons I give this restaurant two stars review and would not go back there again. read more

So - I very rarely complete a review of a place based on my first visit, but after our dinner at Rocktown Kitchen I believe one is deserved. We started with Wings and the Burrata and cocktails - all 4 were excellent! This was followed by the grilled pork chop and meatloaf. Our server Josey, was EXCELLENT!! She was very knowledgeable and helpful in our selections - she attentively checked on dietary restrictions and adjustments to menu selections - resulting in an excellent experience!! We sat outside very comfortably and enjoyed our visit exceptionally! Very happy with this location. I went here with two young kids and ordered chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese. They brought out the kids meals right away which is a huge plus for us. Also, the kids meals were actually really good ( most places skimp on the kids meals) Husband and I ordered the shrimp and grits and the grilled chicken salad. Both were really good. Stopped in during a Saturday night in August. Even though the reservation list seemed to be relatively full, we were promptly accommodated in a bar high-table. This was my first time visiting this establishment and.... it's hard to even find words to describe Rocktown kitchen. It was unbelievably good. I ordered to go and he accommodated my mayo request with offering me a choice of fry sauce or mayo, when he returned. This place had awards all over the walls. The bread was marbled and fries were hot. They have outdoor seating (a tad). And of o weren't passing through this state. I would be returning. Good Reuben on a sunny but icy day. Really this is about 3.5 star experience. The waiter was very nice and helpful. Couldn't ask for better service. It's a very clean and updated restaurant in a nice location. It was the food that was a little basic for the price. I had the chicken and waffles. I've had more flavorful chicken and waffles in Harrisonburg for less than $10 (Rocktown charges $17). Both the waffles and chicken were pretty basic, and waffles to chicken ratio is definitely off (way more waffle than chicken). The honey butter is tasty and the maple syrup was fine. Just overall nothing to write home about. Maybe other dinner items are better. read more

Tasty food! We ate outside in the winter during the coronavirus pandemic. There were only a few tables outside, but it appeared that they had a portable heater for each table. Our portable heater managed to keep us reasonably warm while we consumed our meal. I ordered the tomato basil soup, fried oysters, and mixed greens salad and tried a few onion rings off of my partner's plate. The salad was exactly what I wanted and the soup was excellent. The fried oysters and sauce were quite good and the onion rings were as delicious as I have had. My only complaint was the drink my partner ordered which was a drink combining fruit, juice, and Bacardi Rum with a golden sugar coating the rim of the glass. The golden sugar resembled spray paint and seeped down the glass during the coarse of the meal staining the fingers of whomever touched the glass. The drink itself had so much rum that it tasted more like rubbing alcohol than a cocktail. Overall, I would recommend Rocktown Kitchen for lunch, but I wouldn't recommend that drink. read more

Decided to come here for my friends 19th and I'm so glad we agreed on this place. The restaurant had such a rusty but trendy and inviting feel that we all loved. The service was amazing and the employees were so kind. For my entree I got the pesto chicken salad which was delicious. The chicken was to tender and paired perfectly with the goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette. Also tried a few of my sisters sweet potato fries which were to dieFor dessert my sister and I decided to split the creme brûlée. It was tasty, but definitely very small. We were driving through Harrisonburg and just like it king for something with decent Yelp reviews. This place was a winner. There was a bit of a wait since we didn't have reservations on a Saturday night but the hostess made us feel special and told us which table was as ours. She told us to let her know when the family at our table left since she couldn't see it on the patio. She came out and cleaned it herself and then checked on us several times during dinner. The food was great. I had the prime rib which was delicious. My son had the meatloaf and he highly recommended it. Save room for dessert. Both the peanut butter pie and the crepe brûlée is awesome.
