Stopped on the way to the airport to dine in around 5:30 on 5/22 one female staff member putting together a to go order and one male staff member just standing and watching. Neither of the front counter staff greeted us or even looked at us. Neither had any urgency in taking care of the waiting customers. We stood there for about 6 (six) minutes and after delivering a to-go order to a waiting customer, the female staff member began putting together another to-go order. Just ignoring me and my companion. At this point we just walked out. Needless to say we won't be back. Hard to find good help these days, but I would replace the staff in the front working on 5/22 at 5:30. Ride and uncaring! What a shame! read more

Rocky Rococo Pizza: Rocky's is my go to local pizza chain. Although there are multiple locations, the chain is primarily in Wisconsin. The first restaurant opened in my college town of Madison back in 1974. They're known for my favorite type of pizza, which is pan style. Their crust is thick, soft, chewy, and flavorful. I'm a cheese pizza guy most of the time, but if you like sausage Rocky's sausages are some of the biggest I've seen in the pizza industry. As many fond memories as I have of Rocky's, I felt that this most recent pie fell kind of flat. By flat I mean that the pizza did not really pop on the taste buds, but was a little bland. It has been a few years since I've had it and I think my palate has simply evolved as I've tried more non-chain pizza parlors (I mean when I was five I would have said McDonald's has the best tasting cheeseburgers in the world). For a chain/fast food pizza joint I would still recommend Rocky's, but unlike my undergrad days it is no longer my go to pizza. Nothing to write much about. They use basic ingredients with a unique tomato sauce that is okay, nothing special but always crave those breadsticks from time to time. A slice and 6 piece of breadsticks are 7+$. Nothing great except for the first few bites but like how they have a drive thru at this location. read more

Anybody that likes this place is out of their minds. It's pizza you get from 7/11 or a gas station and some of those are better. We ordered a whole pizza the first time in town and it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. The sausage is the only thing that had any flavor. If you want quick and cheap get a whole pizza so it's fresh. If you want gas station pizza but more expensive get the slices. They sit in boxes under a heat lamp so you get a Luke warm soggy slice. Why they can't leave it in a pan and heat it when you order like any other joint is beyond me. You don't need to avoid this place just don't have high expectations. read more

It's as old school as it gets for their original pan pizza. Little trivia...... This location was an original Rocky's but closed down and reopened again. Out in Waukesha is another old Rocky's location but is now Oscars Custard. Go check it out to see how similar it is to the original building. Place got a grade "A" by the city health board or whomever reviews it. Pizza is still delicious and still comes in that box. Get some breadsticks while your at it. Gave only 4 stars due to you have to have them refill your beverage and the price of food could be a bit lower. Employees were very nice and helpful also. read more

Pizza was waiting for us when we pulled up. Made exactly how we ordered and good and hot.

I picked up my wife from work. We wanted something easy and not too expensive. We went to the drive thru and the menu board said slice of the day and what kind it is for each day of the work. Cool we will get the chicago slice. Proceed to order and told its only available from 10-2 no mention of that on the menu board. So my wife decided she wants spaghetti and meatballs and I order a pizza combo. We pull up and pay the lady hands us a bag with our food and soda and we are on our way. Well we get home and there is no spaghetti in the bag. I called the restaurant and am passed to a young sounding lady that says we left to fast. I tell her umm no, the lady at the drive thru made no mention there was another bag coming and she closed her window. She says we can come back for our spaghetti or get it another time. My wife says she's in no mood to go back as we live 10 minutes away. (so you are talking at least 20 minutes to eat if not more) all she offers again is to get come back now or take down my name and number and get it another time. We don't go there much and when we do that will be the last time. read more

I've been coming here for years for your basic pizza. The sausage are good sized and I like the sauce and deep dish style. Maybe the place could get a little building makeover but usually it seems clean when I've been there. Usually a small salad bar is available but not as of right now. If you are ordering a whole pizza be patient it can take 20 or more minutes to make. They do have combos for sliced pizza or pastas and breadsticks. Everyday is a slice of the day if you just want a slice or combo you can get a regular size or super slice. They have signature pizzas or create your own toppings for different price. I like the gooey hot cheese with customized toppings when you get the dine in deep dish pan and sometimes the crunchy cheese gets on the crust edges so yum read more

The pizza hasn't changed, it's still not really pizza but I feel I must add a star for customer service that makes me a fan and say, Yay! In order to save time I ordered on my phone in a parking lot on my way out of work. There's a YELP button for "delivery or pick up" currently sponsored by Grubhub and their name is very prominent but I must have passed up the choice to pick up or deliver. I was hungry so I zeroed in on the menu, made my selection, confirmed it, paid, and 10 minutes later arrived. Upon arrival the RR people told be the Grubhub driver just left out the door with my order. I tried to stop him but he got in his car, actually running away from me and in all fairness I was hungry enough and perceived him to be running off with my food so I might have been a little frightening. I came back in and called Grubhub who told me to "contact the restaurant." I told them I was at the restaurant to which they replied "we can't cancel the order because it's still within the timeframe promised." Refused to understand the situation, that my order was in a car driving out of the very parking lot where I was parked. While I was still trying to explain, the driver texted me and said he was "here." He texted me, in fact, 10 times. I called him and asked him where "here" was and he said he was "here," a few times then, "here at the hotel" (?) and each time I told him I was at the Rocky Rococo and asked him to please come back with my food. Each time he replied that he was "here," though semantically speaking, "here" was actually somewhere "there." Then he hung up on me, and texted me that he was not allowed to bring my food back to me. Since I didn't know where he was, I couldn't go get it. While this was going on, the Rocky Rococo people made my order all over again and handed me the piping hot bag, no charge. They apologized for Grubhub, said that this happened all the time and that next time I should use the RR website to order and told me the next time I came in my entree would be free. I refused the complimentary meal because they were already comping me the order that Grubhub stole from me but they politely insisted. I won't take them up on it, but I will be a repeat customer (certainly not of Grubhub) because of the absolutely superior customer service (and not because of the mediocre pseudo pizza). Here's the morale of this story, sometimes superior customer service trumps even food quality AND NEVER EVER EVER USE THE GRUBHUB BUTTON. Grubhub sucks the mean green weenie. read more

We came in after a movie to get some heart shaped pizza for their Valentine's day promotion. I had wanted a garden pizza and left my husband to order while I went to the restroom. I come back and my hubby shows me the receipt. We were charged $36 for two heart shaped pizzas. While visiting family, a few of us were in a nearby hotel and had the munchies for pizza. To our delight we found this pizza joint that has some of the best pizza I've ever had. Fully loaded with Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, pepperoni and a host of veggies. The best feature was the great red sauce and mozzarella from one end of the crust to the other. I would have taken a picture at the time of this review but all that was left was the box. By the way, this was the location on South Howell near the Milwaukee airport. Last ,but certainly not least, great staff, especially the cute brunette that took care of plates, plastic ware and all the necessary condiments. I love rocky's. it is my favorite food on the planet. I grew up on Rocky's pizza, and now I come back to wisconsin to eat it. Admittedly, it is not for everyone. It has a doughy, almost underdone crust, overly-herbed sauce, and sometimes lacking on cheese. BUT it is crazy delicious. The sausage is the best i've ever had on pizza. Leave your biases at the door, this pizza is different - and that is what makes it so special. The chain is in serious decline from its 'glory' expansion years past, which makes me sad. Support rocky's pizza!! I usually hit this spot after flying into Mitchell, Bayshore, and the Madison locations (which are great). People grumble all the time about the doughy crust, but the pizza sauce and the strong flavor from the amazing sausage make this one of the best fast food pizzas I've ever had. Let's not forget about the breadsticks. Hopefully you're eating them at the restaurant (or the food court), because they don't travel very well. Dipping them in both the marinara sauce and the nacho cheese (costs extra) is something I frequently think about when I'm out of town for work. I'm one of the few amongst my friends who loves this place, but in terms of tradition (going to Rocky's after school when it was on Farwell, going in the food courts of Mayfair, Grand Ave, and Southridge malls during high school, making sure to visit when on vacations back home from college) it's one of my favorite Wisconsin institutions. read more

Even though I don't remember having any actual dreams about Rocky's, I know I do somewhere in the depths of my brain. If they wanted to take over the national pizza chain business, they could. Where do I begin? First, deep dish pizza by the slice in addition to whole (rectangular!) pizzas. This is all I ever actually get. Their "Super Slice" is the perfect size for lunch, and the regular is good for those with less of an appetite. And their by-the-slice options aren't just cheese, pepperoni, or sausage. Oh no - they do supreme and other specialties too. Of course, you're at the mercy of what they have, but usually you'll find something delicious. I usually get The Perfect (a perfect supreme), but if none available I will default to a sausage and mushroom which they almost always have. Second, their Italian sausage is the best I've ever had on any pizza, which blows my mind because I've eaten at so many great pizza joints and Mr. Roccoco still beats 'em. Huge chunks that don't skimp on all of those delicious Italian spices. Last but not least, Mr. Rocky Roccoco himself. Seriously, one cool cat of a mascot. This location was as good as any I've been to, and is located conveniently on the way to MKE. If only they were in other states besides Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Washington (Who swung that one? Lucky...). 5-stars because it's by far the best pizza chain, and most people have never heard of them. read more

I've been sitting on this review for a few days. At first I wasn't going to review this place for a couple reasons: I think it's sorta tacky to review chains, I don't eat a ton of fast food so it's hard to make fair comparisons. I was making an exception, though, Rocky's sent us a bunch of coupons and I was feeling nostalgic for my days growing up in Madison, going to the Rocky's location there with my fast food-loving dad. But I changed my mind because I think there's something instructive here to other businesses, and I feel like it's a great example to set where good management can really help improve the rating I give a business. In this case, things started out at a solidly 1.5/2 stars level and ended up with three stars because of the actions of the manager on duty. In brief, the employee working the counter when we got there was just incompetent. A line had formed because the employee was not at all understanding the order the guy was wanting to place (from what I overheard, two pizzas: one with pepperoni and mushroom, the other with sausage). Not only did the guy not understand the order for a good couple of minutes, he then tried to split the order across two tickets and screwed up processing the customer's coupon. After maybe five minutes of that, the manager took over and the line actually started moving. The "complicated" order got placed within about 45 seconds, and then the guy in front of me, and then my fiancée and I. He doubled the coupon we were using either because of the wait or because he was just a nice guy. He was obviously a little flustered (and who wouldn't be, you've got a room full of customers waiting to order, the drive through buzzer is going off, and the phone is ringing and the only guy there to help you is standing there with his thumb up his ass) but he pulled through. He did seem like he was cracking up a bit while placing our order (repeating "dine in" several times to the tune of the song that was playing), but...I get it. This guy needs a vacation. I suppose since this is a review and all I should actually mention the food. It's Rocky's. It's thick, the dough is always a little undercooked, and the sauce is almost a little sweet. As far as fast-food pizza goes, it's better than Pizza Hut's anemic slices, but you are of course better off with a proper pizzeria if you can get to one. I can't really fault a fast-food place for the quality of the food, though. All things considered, it was okay to get the "once every few months" fast food craving out of my system. read more

Rocky's might be my pizza of choice when it comes fast food style pizza. The Italian sausage on this pizza is huge and delicious. The sauce is really good, towing the line between sweet and tangy. The crust is doughy, which I actually like and is even more awesome when it's made into the stuffed crust in their mother lode and mother roni slices. The mother lode has me thinking about Rocky Rococo every Saturday when it is the Super Slice of the Day. This place, as far as I can tell, hasn't changed their mascot since at least the 80's. To say he is creepy is an understatement. It's pretty tough to eat inside the establishment when he's peppered all over the restaurant. He looks like the love child of Super Mario and Boris Badenov, and has a total "sex offender" look about him. Please Rocky's, stop wrapping up so much stuff in foil. It's bad for the environment! If you come in here hungry, here's a word of advice. Stay away from the breadsticks, they're over seasoned, over baked and very underwhelming. A salad is a decent substitute, while they make them basic (lettuce, tomato, carrots and cucumber), they are big and accompanied by your choice of Newman's Own Dressings. I have been going to various locations of the Rocky chain since I was a kid. Like everything else the portions have gotten a little smaller, but not too bad - could be good since I don't seem to burn off the slices as easily as I used to either, maybe they were thinking about me over the years! The taste has not changed - it's a comfort food for me. It's not like a deep dish from Gino's in Chicago or a thin crust like in NY; it's a good solid "fast food" style pizza that you can even get through a drive through. I would estimate I've been here about 10 times over the past 2 years and have never once enountered a civil employee, let alone a friendly one. On multiple occasions when I've ordered only four to five items they will still forget to give me one. The food is fine. It's not like they have to do much to make it. So at least there's that. And the service is mostly pretty quick. But either of these people are not trained on how to be cordial to customers or every person who works here hates their job.
