I recently came here to enjoy a day out with my newborn, husband, and dog. It was just what I needed. Being that my baby was just a few weeks old, I wanted to make sure that the place was outdoors, not too crowded and with good food -- this did just that! I absolutely love Shootz at this food hall. It's my fave Hawaiian restaurant here on the mainland. This food hall is also conveniently located to all the touristy things in SJC making it very convenient for people who want to roam around the city. Cute food court area located in the new river street area of San Juan Capistrano. There are several dining establishments including empanadas, pasta, cookies, and more. The indoor seating is limited, but there is plenty of seating outdoors. We tried the empanadas on our first visit - these were okay, but left us wanting a bit more. Stopped by for a bite and love the atmosphere and selection of foods. We ended up with the QUESA BIRRIA with burnt ends brisket, queso de la casa & hibiscus onions. The mango salsa on top really made these so very delicious, ask for extra! We also ordered the fresh Paparade pasta with bolognese sauce. The pasta was a bit over cooked and the sauce was just ok. We had fun walking around and enjoying this venue. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other eateries. read more

My review is based on the Rodeo River Street Food Hall only. The food options are limited and pretty pricey. We were here on a Monday afternoon around 1:30-2:00 and it was pretty empty. With the exception of the cookie shop and the flatbread/pizza option there was no food displayed so if you're not familiar with these particular eateries it's hard to make a decision on what to eat. While there is not a lot of seating inside the food hall the market place offers a nice outside atmosphere and tables that are shared with all the other restaurants and eateries in the marketplace. I hope these places do well but they need to do something to lure more people in as I was surprised there were no amazing tempting aromas welcoming us into the hall. read more

One of my friends had been telling me that we should go explore San Juan Cap since this place opened up. I had no idea it even existed honestly, but we decided to go on a little adventure after golfing at San Juan Hills. I got to say I absolutely love the vibes here, it reminded me so much of the Assembly Food Hall in Nashville but just the mall part. There's a Stetson, Tecovas, steak restaurant, bars, etc. it's got the western atmosphere. Would be very cool if they scheduled country artists to perform every weekend, parking would probably be a nightmare but it would definitely turn this place up! Parking is all paid parking whether it's street or in the lot. You park, note your spot #, and pay at a kiosk or through the app. If I recall correctly, it was $6 for 3 hours. THERE IS ACTIVE PARKING ENFORCEMENT, I parked and immediately saw someone get a ticket. So make sure you pay for parking! Can't wait to try more places here soon. read more

This place is filled with a variety of things to do - shopping, restaurants, cafes, meat butcher, fermentation store, bars... even an area with animals! I came on a saturday afternoon and it was crowded and lively. I think this is a great place for families but also to hangout with a group of friends if you want to grab some food and drinks (so many people were drinking at the restaurants and bars even though it was like 2pm! reminded me of europe a little bit hahah) I highly recommend going to Ubuntu for some french pastries and the passion fruit margarita! read more

This spot recently opened up in San Juan Capistrano and it has it all! There's a little indoor market with many restaurants including: Italian, Hawaiian inspired cuisine, Sushi, seafood and empanadas. It can get a little packed around lunch time, it's less crowded in the afternoon. They have lots of outdoor seating and grassy area for pets! They even have a McConnell's ice cream shop- originally founded in Santa Barbara. We would've stopped there, but the line was sooooo long so we opted for another spot. The bathrooms are so clean and modern, the fountains are a work in progress. I'd definitely come back, I was so impressed with my shrimp and chile lime ceviche bowl! read more

This one is very clean, new, modern and not too large but has a good variety of cuisines to choose from, rice bowls, sushi, Mexican, fried chicken, ice cream, boba tea, and so much more. Visited Rodeo River Street today during Swallows Day parade. Boy, was I in for a surprise by the parade. I'm saving it in my calendar for next year and will come back better prepared. We finally found our way through the massive crowds to Rodeo River Street. We came through the back way by the train track from Old Mission Road. It felt like walking through a country town. It had a nice vibe with all the bar and restaurant and music filling the air with different live bands playing or djs spinning. As we got to Rodeo River Street from the dusty dirt road, it was filled with food vendors. We only tried Bred's Hot Chicken. We had it in Costa Mesa at their other location. But, we heard they just opened a new one in San Juan Capistrano. We got the Chick & Waffles. My favorite way to eat is make it into a sandwich and drench it with the syrup! Definitely, recommend it! Their comeback sauce is a must with the hot chicken. They have a non spicy and spicy one to pair with the spicy level of the chicken you got. Their homemade banana pudding is such a treat if you're a sweet tooth eater like And to finish it off and wash everything down, we also got the Sweet Honey Ice Tea which is the SHiT! Get it? Will definitely be back again when in the area to try something new! read more

I've been to Rodeo 39 many times and recently visited Rodeo 74. This is my least favorite Rodeo. Which is sad because the location is amazing. Here are my thoughts. Food selection: not great. I had a Mediterranean bowl. I've had better at Cava and Kabob Krush. The food options were VERY limited. There weren't tok many food vendors. Design/Layout: I hated the one hallway with food vendors. This makes getting through very miserable. It's overly crowded. There isn't much seating either. It was difficult even outside to find a place to sit. The Good: I loved the area. I don't often go to San Juan, but if I do again, I'll go to the other shops on the street and steer clear of Rodeo. It was a BEAUTIFUL day, so my friend and I drove though Ortega Highway. read more

Rodeo River Street. It's not one thing--it's a mashup. A Frankenstein's monster of commerce, ambition, and a heavy dose of branding perfume. Some of it works. Some of it feels like it's still trying to figure out what the hell it wants to be. Let's start with the bright spots. Tecovas--solid. Boots built with grit and intention. Five stars, no question. Seagar--a surf-meets-cowboy fever dream that I admire, even if I've yet to take the plunge. It's got soul, which is rare in retail these days. Toes on the Nose and Hobie? Beautiful stores, no doubt. They whisper salt air and nostalgia. Then there are the restaurants. And here's where things start to wobble. Las Vaqueras is the crown jewel of the project, but it's a paper crown--gorgeous to look at, hollow underneath. The service is lost at sea and the prices are laughable, if you're in the mood to laugh. Me? I wasn't. One visit, and that's plenty. Finka has a killer patio, but the menu's sparse, overpriced, and uninspired. A great stage, no script. The brewery? Now that's the vibe. Sit outside, sip a local beer, and watch the Rodeo show unfold around you. This is where the place breathes. McConnell's Ice Cream? A revelation. Worth every calorie and then some. If this whole complex had half the clarity and confidence of McConnell's, we'd be having a different conversation. The food court is a mess. A high-concept quick bite idea in a town that doesn't really do lunch. Sure, you'll find a few gems--like a killer cookie spot--but at $7 a pop? That's a luxury indulgence masquerading as a snack. So what do you do with all of this? You don't slap a five-star sticker on it, that's for sure. You acknowledge the hits, you grimace at the misses. I was expecting a street but it's actually a little mall with shops and Pilates and cafes and restaurants, there is a meat butcher place trying turn over the vegetarians, too!
