We decided to stop in after hearing great comments from friends about Rodeo Whip. I enjoyed the coffee ice cream cone that I had chosen but my hubs was rather disappointed by the lasso (blizzard type treat). The candy that was mixed in was stale and it was mixed in a plastic cup before being scooped out and put into a styrofoam cup. After seeing his disappointment with the treat, he ordered pistachio ice cream in a cone which had a nice flavor to it, but, there was a good handful of nuts in every bite which made it difficult to eat. All in all, for around $15 (which is quite high) - our experience isn't worth it and we won't return. read more

Have always came here during my trips to FL to visit family, but with COVID many things have changed and unfortunately the staff is one of those. The location as with the area have a mask mandate which require masks to be worn by their employees and guests. This is indicated by many signs posted inside and outside the store. While going there today (08/2/19) at 4:30pm a group of 5-6 unaccompanied teenage boys were sitting in the building waiting for their ice cream all without any masks in their possession. When my grandmother asked them why they were not wearing them inappropriate words as with rude remarks were made towards her and myself regarding people that wear them and that they do not believe in wearing them, although it is the current law as with being posted multiple times that they are needed inside the building in order to be served. In addition 7 other masks wearers were inside this building at this time. When the employees were asked why they served them while they have many signs posted that masks are required none of them had answers apart from making sure everyone had ordered. It was one of the most baffling and rude experiences I have experienced yet in this state. This unfortunately is no longer a place we feel comfortable going into again even after COVID due to the disrespect that was provided by the employees. read more

Wow this is the best ice cream in DeLand, maybe in all of Central Florida. This place is always packed and many of my friends said I need to try, so I did. I got a large cup of Salted Caramel and Butter Pecan. Both were rich, creamy and amazing. They have so many flavors or hard ice cream and soft serve it was hard to choose. Rodeo Whip is a DeLand establishment that has been around forever and is loved by the locals. That it was able to reopen after being completely wrecked by the south DeLand tornado a few years ago is a testament to its customer base and quality of product. The ice cream is very good, and they essentially have a lock on the market, as there really aren't any other passable ice cream shops in town, with the exception of the place on north woodland that openend a few years ago. Been outstanding since 1989 however there is so much more now and it continues to be THE BEST I have ever found. Go there. There are folks that come there from out of town and go to get the GOOD STUFF. Met a couple from Alabama that stayed on the river for a week or so and they made the pilgrimage nightly. I went in Savanah and was told about how great the icecream was. Waited in line way too long and as I thought, not as good as Rodeo Whip. In the world of ice-cream there is no place like home. Next time we get a good storm make sure you are at Rodeo Whip and get a banana split. You can load the family in the Banana split Barge after you attempt to finish (You Will Not Finish it) and float on home. You will still have some left over so it may be tight in the Barge. I see alot of people complaining about the wait for their drive-thru. When my wife and I are looking to go to Rodeo Whip, we factor in the "wait time" before we even leave the house. We will expect a 15-30 minute wait. We have gotten lucky and been in and out of there. In my opinion its a small complaint about the wait - I am sure there are plenty of people who bring this to their attention when they get to the window, so I am sure the owners are well aware. While I was waiting in the drive through line for 10 minutes, I watched four couples walk in and back out with ice cream without me even moving in the line. I ended up staying there for 20 minutes because once you get in the line, there is no exit unless you ask the people behind you to reverse to be able to leave. She took our order and "THEN AFTERWARDS" told us that we needed to leave because it was now approaching 10 pm and she was going to lock the doors. She pointed & told us to sit on the benches outside.... It was chilly & raining and we (2 seniors, 2 adults & 2 young children) had to vacate!!
