I've been to Dr. Lucente a couple times since I moved to NYC last year and both experiences have been great. I've never been a regular dentist-goer mostly because that scratching sound against my teeth that I associated with dentists made me cringe, but Dr. Lucente and his team are really gentle on my gums, and dental hygiene has come a long way since my youth. I've always been seen on time and they're just two stops away from work so it's super convenient. The office will send you an automated text when your appointment is coming up and it allows you to just text back to confirm - so easy. He gave me an excellent rec for a doctor to take out my wisdom teeth, and his hygienist was very helpful providing tips to keep plaque at bay. It's a bit out my way but because of my insurance I was stuck using them. Usually with in network dentist I have been to in the past, they usually suck I mean terrible service and all. My last visit was because I felt a bit pain chewing and also when I brushed my teeth my gum would react a bit. so I went down to Dr. Lucente's to have a check up and a cleaning under my friend's recommendation. It was really a great experience overall, the staff there were very friendly and caring and they did a thorough and gentle cleaning to my teeth. Dr. Lucente is personable, knowledgeable and skillful. He explains the procedure and addresses your reasons for coming in completely. Alma, the hygienist, does thorough and best cleaning! His staff are all sweet and amazing! Everyone at the office are all very conscientious, kind, and responsive. The office does have a $50 late cancellation or no show fee so be sure to call ahead if you want to cancel or reschedule. However, the staff also always call you and leave a VM before your appointment as a reminder, a courtesy call that is highly appreciated. In this practice the doctor and his staff go above and beyond to help out patients and try their best to make the visit as comfortable as possible. They are also very transparent when it comes to your payments. If you have an appointment scheduled, they discuss with you your copays, deductible, and out-of-pocket expense over the phone if necessary and in-person as well before you are being seen. Highly, highly recommend - (yes I wrote the word 'highly' twice, on purpose) My insurance is not the best and between my husband and I, we had already tried a number of East Village dentists over the years. I was having issues with my molars and needed a good dentist. Dr. Lucente only had a few reviews on yelp but the reviewers loved him - so I made an appointment. I've been to the office twice now, and would give a 6 star rating if it were possible. The office is clean and bright. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Finding a personable dentist with reasonable prices and excellent skills in New York City is a real challenge, but Dr. Lucente is well worth seeking out. I first took a look at his website to see if I could get some sense of what the office is like. In his case, the actual experience is very much like what the website shows: friendly staff, up-to-date technology and a very clean environment. On my initial visit to Dr. Lucente, my wait to be seen was no more than about 5 minutes. A complete set of x-rays was taken by a technician who knew how to do them properly and with care without gouging my mouth and cheeks. Following the x-rays, my wait to see the Dr. was no more than 5 minutes. A good first "test" of any dentist is a thorough cleaning, and that is exactly what Dr. Lucente did, carefully, painlessly and comfortably. Following the cleaning, Dr. Lucente described my options for additional dental work in detail, going over it until I understood it and was able to make good choices. After a few years of neglecting my visits, due to an intense fear of dentists (no judgements, please), I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Lucente. He was recommended to me by a number of friends and conveniently located not far from my apartment in the east village. I was nervous about the condition of my teeth. From the outside they appear to be perfectly straight, and others often comment on my smile. Only I knew that this was far from the truth and the disservice you could actually do to your dental health by not scheduling regular appointments. I had recently started feeling a sharp pain in my back molar. Dr. Lucente was understanding, accommodating, and nonjudgemental. He helped me navigate through the entire procedure with a reassuring smile. I'm knocking on wood as I write this, because I had a wonderful experience at Dr. Lucente's office and I hope to have many more. I switched to a new insurance provider and had to find a primary dentist within their network. I researched many other dentists--some of the online reviews and horror stories, made me want to reconsider going to the dentist, EVER! I came down to a small list of dentists that had good ratings on Yelp and other sites. Dr. Lucente was on my short list. I must say, I was a little skeptical of the many five star ratings he had on here (Yelp), because although it's illegal, I was thinking maybe the people reviewing aren't legit. But, when I walked into Dr. Lucente's office for my first appointment, I knew the reviews were all legit. The office is well ran, clean and organized. A bad previous root canal experience and moving to a new city had previously been excuses not to go but I'm so happy that I found Dr. Lucente. Dr. Lucente and his staff are so accommodating. I am usually very nervous about coming in to go to the dentist but I saw lots of great reviews about this office I decided to try it out. His front desk made the registration pretty seamless as I know that my insurance is pretty complicated. The assistant that took my xrays was very gentile and explained every step thoroughly to me as I can be quite a gagger. Alma the hygienist was also very nice. I usually hate cleanings because they hurt alot but she did a great job. Dr. Lucente and his staff are marvelous and I have no problem recommending the practice. Dr. Lucente has repeatedly taken extra time out of his busy schedule to deal with my (sadly) problem teeth, and even though I am terrified of needles and dental work, he has a gentle touch and makes sure I am nice and numb prior to drilling. He's even made my non-insurance-covered work manageable, money-wise. He's always got a smile and encouraging words and the whole office, while tiny, is clean and friendly and helpful. Dr. Lucente has dealt with my tears and my fears and never made me feel like a terrible patient. I give him and the staff two enthusiastic thumbs up. I would recommend this practice unreservedly.
