It's hard to find a good, affordable, trustworthy mechanic here in LA. I only wish I had found Jose sooner!
I drive a 1996 Chevy Lumina. Being an older car it naturally has some mechanical problems pop up from time to time. For my first two years in LA I bounced around from various car repair places. Every place I visited would always try to tell me that in addition to what I brought the car in for, there were five or six other things that really needed to be fixed. If I tried to decline the extra work I was always made to feel like I was naive and making a huge mistake- and being a young woman who doesn't know a lot about cars, I was easily intimidated. I was in desperate need of an honest mechanic.
Then I found Jose. I've been bringing my car to Jose for two years now and have been thrilled with his service every time. He is great at explaining what the problem is, always quotes me a reasonable price, and never tries to sell me on extra repairs I don't need. I've brought it in for everything from oil changes, tune-ups, brake pad replacement, oil and coolant leaks, and most recently I brought it in because it was suddenly and unexpectedly overheating. Turned out it was mixing water and oil- he needed to replace a gasket which involved taking the engine out of the car and also flushing and cleaning out the whole system several times. What did it end up costing me? $400. When I talked to my dad about it he said that repair could have easily run me over $1,000 somewhere else.
