Not sure if we caught this place on a bad night, but the food was terrible. The meet was chewy to the point of being a bit disconcerting. I got the green beans for a side and I'm pretty convinced they came out of a can from WW2. Honestly... they looked like the color of the ghost of a green bean. They also had bacon chunks in them which were grey... which is just wrong. Ordered the 1 meat plate with ribs, Mac n chz and pasta salad. The ribs were average with little flavor other than the black pepper in the rub. The Mac n chz was bad and tasted like it was made with velvetta. The pasta salad however was really good and clearly the best part of my lunch. The bbq sauce tastes like nothing more than souped up ketchup and was a waste of space on the table. For the $16 they charge for the platter and a drink I expect a ton more but alas it's typical bbq in Houston sadly, average at best with an extremely overpriced tag at the end of it. read more

Just ate here based in an article from the Houston Chronicle. Can't say I have anything bad to say about our experience, however, I left with just an ok feeling. Too pricey for the portion size, no bread was offered, and the sweet tea was horrible. If we're comparing apple to apples based on price to portion ratio and quality, I think places like Hickory Hollow in the Heights, Gatlins BBQ, and Goode Company still stand out as go to spots. read more

This place is convenient for the area but is severely lacking in the execution of the bbq (sides are better than most bbq joints). Pork ribs are often dry and the brisket is hit & miss with execution. One day you can cut it with a fork and the next day you need a tenderizer. Also, the restaurant needs to spring for some real plates. read more

I'm not an authority on Texas BBQ, but Baker's ribs comes off as an average place to me. I had the 3 meat platter with ribs, spicy sausage, and brisket. The ribs were pretty good, the brisket was mediocre, and the sausage was OK. This would probably be a 4 start rating if this place was in New Jersey, but I expect a ltitle bit more for Texas. read more

What a staple of Houston BBQ. Be prepared that they are running out of stuff at the end of night. They only serve what's fresh and don't keep stuff for the next day. Best of all they have classic Texas Dr Pepper to pair with your bbq. Try the brisket, but I the pulled pork is my favorite here. read more

This really is great BBQ. The guy behind the counter was so friendly, it just made everything that much better. Had three meats - brisket, ribs and sausage. Everything was flavorful - not a single complaint. The ribs were tender, fall off the bone, but not disintegrate in your mouth, tender. Brisket had great smoke penetration, and the sausage was flavorful, I'm pretty sure it is made in house. Top it off with a deep fried peach pie... are you kidding me? That's the most delicious thing I've ever had. It was so good, I was driving away, just as the place was closing up... and decided against it. I threw my car into park, keys in the ignition, and ran back in to get another one! This time it was pecan. Such tasty morsels few mortals can imagine. What divine gift is this deep fried pie?! Got to say that after reading multiple reviews and good things about the food, that we planned ahead and drove 15+ minutes in evening traffic only to find them closed. I know they post that they serve until they run out. But Monday is never a busy dining day, and I find it hard to believe they were totally out of food at 5:00 on a Monday to the point the place was dark and the locked tightly. No sign, no notice, no nothing..... If they are not dependable, don't expect to make the trip back for a repeat disappointment. read more

This place is terrible and overpriced. I had read some great reviews of Baker's Ribs which made it even more disappointing. This is some of the worst barbeque I've had. I'm from Memphis, so I know barbeque and ribs and I'm picky about it, ribs in particular but I'm fair. We came in for lunch one Saturday and ordered a rib plate and a pulled pork plate with potato salad, dirty rice, mac & cheese, and cole slaw as sides. The ribs and the pork were both dry and didn't have much flavor. Each plate was $11 (with two sides each). The rib plate came with four ribs, which seems a ridiculously small portion, mine actually came with five but I couldn't even eat the four, they were terrible. None of the sides were good either, everything was pretty tasteless. Not going back. read more

I have rethought my original post and have come to the conclusion that maybe the meat cutter was having a bad day and didn't get the specifics on what I wanted on my sandwich. Simply significant because there are no other BBQ places in the pricey areas of town except the awful Luling City Market and Goode BBQ - both have decent BBQ but awful staffs that are indignant and rude. I'm not from the area and was looking for some good Texas BBQ. I must say this was pretty delicious. I got the sausage sandwich and was very happy with it. The coleslaw was good but it's a peppery and vinegary type slaw. The loaded mashed potatoes were pretty delicious. I would also highly recommend the turkey breast and mac&cheese! Fantastic. I had the beef rib, brisket and pork belly and I was very impressed. On par with Killens, but without the drive and better. I met Russell and he is very cool. My only advice is to lose the Bakers Rib reference in your bio, avg people think it's the same bbq spot with different name. It's totally different now. An ok experience. They ran out of ribs so I guess going in for a later dinner is not ideal if you want to taste what they themselves told us what was their best item. We tried the pulled pork, sausage and chicken, along with the dirty rice and it was ok. The chicken was a bit dry so again, an earlier visit would be better. Great lunch today with a couple guys that never tried the food here before. We shared a tray of meats that consisted of chicken, sausage, pork ribs and moist brisket. Everything was great. The moist brisket was outstanding. I say its my favorite here in Houston. Only disappointment was no beef ribs available today. Excellent BBQ, it was so good by itself I forgot until halfway dinner even try the BBQ sauce. Their beef ribs have some of the best crust I have had in a long time, and are fall off the bone tender. Many BBQ joint have way too sweet Cole slaw and cucumber salad, theirs is just nicely seasoned without being sweet. They have the typical pickles and onions on the side bar, but the pickled onions on the side bar are definitely not typical, and so worth it if you like pickles! If you love onions or pickles, make sure you don't skip those! read more

I'm a big fan of BBQ and I have to say that this was one of the worst tasting BBQ I've ever had. The meat was to bland. For the price I expect to have a really good rub on the BBQ packed with flavor. A great little down-home hole in the wall local BBQ. ,,the smoke hits you in the nose as soon as you walk in the door..I've been eating too much brisket recently in TX so I went for the pulled pork and the jalapeno sausage with a baked potato, throw in jalapenos and sweet pickles ,smother it with the house sauce and you have a cheap and tasty meal. read more

Pretty good. Brisket is best meat. Ribs aren't fall off the bone but still darn good. A little pricey.

Definitely qualifies as good TX bbq. Brisket was tender & flavorful. The jalapeño sausage was solid as well. The macaroni was above average, though the beans were a little bland. All in all it was very good and I will return. read more

Good bbq here. Brisket is excellent as are the pork ribs. Excellent potatoe salad and pinto beans. Awesome peach cobbler. Now they're selling these homemade fried pies - I've tried Cherry and Peach - both are tasty. But it's about the bbq. They have good sauce at Bakers, but good ribs and brisket don't require it, and that is certainly the case here. Probably my favorite BBQ in Houston. We try to have a family get together here at least once a week. When I'm trying to be healthy their Turkey is pretty good.
