The show was great- some characters were stronger than others. Be aware that you must book as a group to sit together. I didn't know that and my friends and I were not allowed to sit together. This was our first time here and we were excited. We ended up spending $300 with dinner for two plus the dessert and two drinks (each). We also had 2 extra cocktail and an upcharge for getting a filet mignon vs the skirt steak or other options available. The cocktails were amazing and definitely the best thing we had. The dessert and appetizer tied for second, followed by the entree. Unfortunately both of our steaks (along with the table next to us) were way overcooked. This is a catered dinner so nothing is cooked to order- you should know that as well. That means everything is warm vs hot and not as fresh as we may prefer it. Wow! Wow! Wow! Coming to Roger Rocka's Dinner Theatre as a child, then decades later, getting to bring my own son for the first time, along with my mom- and it was everything and more... perfection! We got to go to a phenomenal performance of The Buddy Holly Story on a Saturday Night, and we were thoroughly entertained! Seriously...our lil' group-a preteen boy, a lady in her 40's, and one in her 80's- all equally sitting and enjoying a memorable night! That's just magic! We were honored to see Daniel Montgomery's Roger Rocka's Debut, as we have enjoyed seeing him in Bear Stage Productions. My son even got to talk with super talented, Danny after the show! He was Buddy Holly in every sense. Tremendous singing and guitar playing! The entire cast, with musical, dancing, and acting was committed 100% to the characters, and drew the audience in. It moved me. I smiled, laughed, sang along, tapped my feet, shimmied my shoulders, and even teared up. Kudos to the director, Mark Standriff, who I also got the pleasure to meet and talk with following the show. Okay, let's talk the food and service- top notch! The bread and salads were fresh and plentiful! The bruschetta was like a party in your mouth, and the entrees were delicious! In our group we ordered the Grilled Flat Iron Steaks and the Vegetarian Zucchini Rollatini. Ample portions, fantastic textures, and flavors were on point! (See the attached pictures for the full effect). Our table service was flawless, and all the servers were accommodating and attentive! One of the best moments was at the start when our table was surprised by the announcement of us being there- it was my son's first time, and the spotlight shone on him. He has such a love for theatre and had even gotten the chance to be in an production with Buddy Holly himself, Danny, in the Wizard of Oz. The night meant the world to our son, and the talents of all were entertaining and inspiring. The visit as a whole was beautiful, and I highly recommend not just seeing this production, but also coming here for future ones! This is my second time coming to Roger Rockas and I absolutely love it! We saw Secret Garden the first time around and this show was for Disney's Mary Poppins and it was GREAT!! The food was flavorful, and the portions were just right for each plate we were served. I have a few cocktails because they were a must. Dinner starts around 6pm, it states to be there by 5:30pm so you can get in and get seated, and I highly recommend getting there right when they open so you can get seats facing the stage, you do have assigned tables. The staff all around are so nice, they are quick, they are efficient and deserve to get tipped, because they work really hard for it. I do like this space because it's pretty good inside, and they have plenty of seating, they are also ADA compliant as well. They also put on the best performances, they do have season passes where you can pick which shows you'd like to see. If you like musical theater then you will enjoy and love coming here. read more

Went for a work Christmas event. Had such a great time. The staff was wonderful. They work like a very well oiled machine. They took drink orders, served our food, cleaned up all without missing a beat and they were all on stealth mode. You did not hear them, they were just there. Everyone was smiling and so polite. You can tell they really care about your experience. The food was sooooo good. I had the braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and carrots. We got to watch a little show, also the actors were wonderful and so talented. The MC was so funny. I had as such a wonderful experience. The restaurant and restrooms were so clean. If you have not been you should definitely go. Sorry I did not take a lot of photos, there were a lot of people from work there, and it was hard to take photos without them being in the pictures. Came into this restaurant/Playhouse without the highest expectations. I figured hey, it's Fresno, don't expect much and you can't be disappointed. Truth be told, if my expectations were high they still would've been exceeded. We had a fantastic experience, the food was great. Really good. Surprisingly good, particularly the prawns which we devoured before the meal. The fillet and salmon were both very well done. The show! They lowered the age limit for the frozen series and we were able to enjoy the first half of the act, but you can only get so far with a three year-old. There's something about kids, though, they are fairly (brutally, unambiguously) honest. She was enthralled the entire time, the singing, dancing, choreography, set transitions were all great. If you enjoy theater and a good meal, I think you would find it difficult to be disappointed here. We had a great time, already have reservations to come back again, and look forward to enjoying future shows here over the years. Brunch and dinner with a show at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater is always a fun experience and a true Fresno staple. For brunch, I started with a mimosa and a salad that comes with every entrée. I ordered the huevos rancheros with applewood bacon, and while the bacon itself was excellent (easily the best part of the dish), I didn't enjoy the huevos rancheros overall. The beans and the ranchero sauce both lacked the flavor I was hoping for, which made the dish fall flat for me. On the other hand, I tried the open-faced chicken cordon bleu with hollandaise, and that was delicious. The hollandaise sauce was great, and the chicken breast was cooked perfectly--juicy and not dry at all. A neighboring table ordered the red wine-braised short ribs, and the plating looked A+. The service here is consistently great. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, and I never felt like I had to track someone down. I also really enjoyed the holiday décor--it adds to the overall experience. On another visit, we came for dinner and a show. We started with salad and bread, then ordered the shrimp and lobster quesadillas, which were amazing--I would absolutely come back just for those. For my entrée, I ordered the steak, and I appreciate that their portion sizes are generous compared to many upscale spots in Fresno. The steak was cooked perfectly (I prefer rare), not overly fatty, and easy to cut. My sister ordered a stuffed pasta, and I liked that the menu includes specialty items depending on the show. The cocktails were another highlight. I had a BB Gun margarita, and my sister ordered a virgin Shark's Cooler. During intermission, we shared the pumpkin pie cheesecake, which was excellent even though we were already full. The show itself was fantastic--the performers were incredibly talented. Overall, Roger Rocka's delivers a strong dinner-theater experience with great service, solid drinks, and several standout dishes. Carole King closing weekend Party of 4 for the 2 pm show Amazing Junior Company-very energetic and talented. From the younger students to the older, each entertained and did a fantastic job! Carole King cast was fabulous. We love Carole King and have seen Beautiful on Broadway in New York City. Our expectations were not so high, but we were hopeful and ready to be entertained. WOW! This cast was amazing. Each person sang, danced, enthusiastically drew us into the story and shared her life with absolute talent. We wished we had come when the show opened so we could see it again. But alas, it is going away. The cast received a much-deserved standing ovation at the end as we sang the afternoon away. Food menu was just okay. Happy that the lemon pancakes were on the menu. My wife and I went with a group this past week, not knowing what the play would be, and not really caring because we have thoroughly enjoyed all the plays we have seen there over the years. THE FOOD.... I ordered the Red Wine Short Ribs braised in water. They were boneless and served with mashed potatoes, gravy and honey glazed carrots. The carrots were delicious. The rib meat was waaay over braised. Mushy, like pot roast which has been over cooked. The only part that had any bite to it was the connective tissue which apparently does not break down during braising. There was zero flavor left in the meat. And not a hint of seasoning. I always season and smoke mine low and slow till about160 degrees and then braise them, until probe tender. I add more seasoning when done. I expected the rib meat to be on a bone. That's what makes a rib a rib. The mashed potatoes were... well... mashed potatoes. The gravy was canned or made to imitate canned. Others in my group stated similarities of their "ribs" meals. Did I mention that the carrots were delicious? YES! And except for them, the meal would have been a total miss. My wife chose the salmon dish. It was nothing special. Others spoke of their meals of Chicken Cordon bleu very positively. THE PLAY: "Something Rotten", a play that I had not previously heard about was really not my style. The story line was interesting, but there were a bit of crude risqué lines here and there and some slight comically negative slams against God, which I thought was in very poor taste and totally unnecessary. On a more positive note, the stage was filled with talent! The acting, singing, and dancing were excellent throughout. The room was extremely cold, apparently with AC running to keep the cast cool in their heavy period costumes. She always treats me to a show and has supported Roger Rocka's for decades, even through Covid.... Where they were so helpful in delivering quality trusted food during that time Okay okay., back to why I'm here. We came to see THE WAITRESS! Omg! hilarious! I found myself laughing so hard at some of the dialogue and performance. Areas where they pushed the envelope in explicit humor, along with brief "domestic abuse" triggers .. all tactfully displayed in a real life Broadway performance. You have to see it. And, the vocals were amazing! The leading roles Really had some powerful Pipes! Before the show, we all had a three course meal.. I don't know who the chef was that night. But please give them my high praise kudos for how magnificent and full flavored my meal was. . And I'm not exaggerating. I don't sugarcoat to be nice. If The food or service is bad, I will say it, but I can't.... Because it was absolutely delicious.. Show was wonderful. Server was good. One major issue was the food. I order the roasted red snapper. Could not eat. Fish was not fresh and had a major fish smell. Let management know so that they could pass on to chef. Also, ask if I could get a coffee on the house, so I could get taste out of my mouth. Management said that is why they have water on table . Manager needs some training on customer service. Was able to talk with chef and left on a good note. I would return but maybe show and desert only. Roger Rocka's is an institution! This place is amazing. I can only speak for shows after 2021, but they have a wonderfully talented troupe of actors and they put on some absolutely amazing shows. The staff is incredible and always welcoming. The food is delicious and they have options for almost everyone. If you're worried about eating during a play, don't! You eat before the show and have dessert/coffee during intermission. Even if you're a picky eater you should check this place out. 2024 update-luck to have seen Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, and Secret Garden this year. All amazing shows! The Jr Company's opening act is always very cute and full of talent. The main shows are amazing! I think my favorite shows are the Sunday brunch, starting at 11, you get out at 4. Loved the Sea Bass entree for the Secret Garden show. Would definitely order the fish entree next show we go to. The pumpkin cheesecake dessert was awesome as well. We were a party of 8 at an 8-top table, but a fairly large couple was "added" to our table making it unacceptably cramped around the table, the servers were asking us to pass dishes and drinks to each other because they couldn't get to us, and I couldn't see well around this large man. It was awkward as we were celebrating a birthday, paid a $5 cutting fee per person, and they added the mystery couple. I recognize that in venues such as this you might be seated with others, but not when you have a table's worth in your group. Probably violated a fire code as it was nearly impossible to get into and out of my seat at Table 12. Unsat. The food was exceptionally good for a dinner theater. The local cast was, for the most part, talented in acting, singing, and dancing. "Curtains" was very entertaining and well worth the price. I loved the young kids who did the pre-show. Drinks were a little pricey ... $14 for a glass of Cupcake wine ... it doesn't get any more bottom shelf than that. The bottle typically goes for $7.99. I've always wanted to attend a show at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater, and I finally made it for their production of *The Sound of Music*. It was everything I hoped for and more! From the moment we arrived, the experience was an absolute delight, filled with fun, fantastic performances, and a cozy atmosphere. We arrived around 4:45 pm and were able to find parking easily. By 5:00 pm, the doors opened, and the staff was ready to greet us with warm smiles. The team was courteous, friendly, and made check-in smooth and seamless. A hostess escorted us to our table, which was located right in the middle of the venue, offering a perfect view of the stage. I was pleased to notice that the theater's layout ensures all tables have an unobstructed view, which really enhances the overall experience. By 5:30, we were served bread and our drinks. We opted for the Spotlight Package, which I highly recommend. This package included two drinks of choice and dessert, making it an upgrade. Dinner service began at 6:00 pm, starting with the *Sautéed Prawns with Garlic Red Chile Oil and Rosemary* - absolutely delicious and deserving of a 10/10! For the entrées, we chose the *Flat Iron Steak* and *Salmon*. While the steak was decent (7/10), the salmon was very tasty and gets an 8/10. One of the most pleasant surprises was the performance by the Junior Company, a talented group of young actors from the Good Company Players Productions, who took the stage at 7:00 pm. Their energy and enthusiasm really set the mood for the evening. By 7:30, the show began, and it was truly magical. The entire cast was lovable and brought each character to life with such passion. The seven children were very talented, Maria and the nuns performed with grace, and the rest of the cast, including the Baron, Baroness, and Rolf, the house keepers, were simply magnificent. It was clear that these actors have a genuine love for performing, which made the show even more enjoyable. At 9:00 pm, there was an intermission, during which dessert was served. The *Crumbled Apple* paired with a nice coffee and cream was the perfect sweet treat to keep us going for the rest of the show. By 9:30, the performance resumed and continued until about 10:15 pm. The Sound of Music was captivating, filled with emotion, and beautifully performed. I wasn't aware of the full depth of the story before, but the way it was delivered made it all the more impactful. I highly recommend booking a show here, not just to support a fantastic local business like Roger Rocka's, but also to experience the immense talent of the Good Company Players Productions, a nonprofit that truly values the art of acting. I came to watch All Shook Up and let me tell you....the show was GREAT. I loved it! If you haven't seen this show yet, go have some appetizers & drinks and watch the show. The staff was friendly and attentive. My water was never fully empty due to our server checking up on us. The appetizers (lobster quesadillas and warmed asiago sun dried tomato dip with toasted bread) were good. I do think there should be a good amount of lobster in the quesadillas especially for the price of it. I ordered the burnin love drink and WOW. It was perfect. I was very impressed, I ordered 2. You sit at table with other people, but if you go with enough friends/families, you can have the whole table which fits 10 people. The arrangement of the seating is good. We have attended plays in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and London and left this theater very impressed by the performance, actors, and dinner. The opening is performed by a group of extremely talented young people, ages 9-17. They were incorporated into the play, Fiddler on the Roof. The entire cast and their performance were exceptional. I love that we have a little dinner theater with local talent. Let me tell you that our community will blow you away! They do a good job of changing up the shows that they do every couple of months so that they hit a different target audience. I came here with a group to see A Christmas Story in late November. The inside is well decorated and there is a great view from all tables. Roger Rocka's was very accommodating and sat our whole group together at two adjacent tables. The service was great along with the food. I ordered the short rib with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. The venue also has a full bar. Now to the show! The cast did a great job and the kids were adorable. I finally crossed Roger Rockas off the list. Talk about a good time. I saw from other reviews, people complaining about the food and the seats. If anything, people who get cold easily would probably have a valid case. But at the same time, you're in a theater where actors are constantly moving, running on and off stage, so obviously they're going to tailor the temperature for them. Plan accordingly. A couple that we sat next to said they had never seen so many empty seats, which I was fine with. We were in 9B, in what we were told were probably the best seats in the house. Directly facing the stage. They come every few months all the way from Visalia, so I'm inclined to believe them. It would have been pretty cramped if someone was actually in the seat beside me. Maybe it was the show. I didn't know anything about it. Never heard of the movie it was based on, but it was pretty entertaining. My wife is already talking about coming back. I'd say part of the experience is going to be interacting with the people at your table. There were only 6 of us, and so there were many lags in the conversation. The people were nice though, if not a bit quiet initially. The food was probably the one thing my wife complained about. Not that she didn't like it, because she did. She just wished there were more options. They do strive to have something for everyone present. A veggie option, fish, chicken, pork and beef. But it's just that it's one option of each. There are lots of drink options, many of them with coffee, which you might need considering the late hour when you leave. As for the show, I started out on a cute note. The Junior Company was pretty entertaining. It got me excited for the show. As for the main show, Sugar. Did not know a single thing about it going in. Was just hoping not to be bored or get lost in not knowing what was going on. Nope! The play was very entertaining. I asked the couple besides us if the play followed the movie accurately. They said it was the Readers Digest version. I will be treating my wife to The Secret Garden when it shows, as it was one of her favorite books growing up. Fun place, bad experience. My mom prepaid tickets for us over the phone and we were told to just show up and we would be on their list. Upon arriving we were asked to show proof of vaccination, which we were not aware of..had never been told that over the phone the two times she had called.. Just a big bummer. If that had been communicated this whole situation could have been avoided. SO consider this your heads up since apparently no one else is going to tell you until you're already there. We were able to get a refund which was nice. Hope to be able to try again in the future if this outdated measure is lifted. read more

We recently attended a Fund Raising evening at Roger Rocka's and the presentation of "Sugar". The food was wonderful and that is where it stopped. The play was probably, no was, the most "amateurish, worst acting" I have ever attended. What made it even worse. We went to San Louis Obispo to The Repertory Theater a week later to see "Nine to Five". Now understand, SLO is 1/10th the size of Fresno (47,000 to 500,000+) and the play was professionally presented , delivered and all for the same price. Their theater holds about 110 people and Roger Rocka's about 225. And the actors have nothing to do with the food. It is true they do not serve food but restaurants abound in the area and then go to the play. Why does Fresno lack virtually any of the arts and when they do, it is sub par. read more

Finally I got to go experience this local legend! It has always been on my bucket list . My oldest, middle and I got the pleasure to go last night for dinner and a show which was the 25th annual Putnam county spelling bee . The show was great and done so well ! I do love theater and I think this production ,even if you don't care for theater you would enjoy it . The only draw back for me was time of when the show started and dinner , I totally understand them not doing dinner during the show cause that is distracting and disruptive but maybe not so much time in between from dinner to show . Online it is suggested to there between 5:30-6:30 for dinner but entertainment didn't start till 7:30 and the actual show starts at 8pm. Our server was awesome and sweet, she did have a lot of tables to serve but still did a great job. The food, Guys this was really a nice dinner I was pleasantly surprised! My middle and I got the flat iron steak with Cabernet butter, basil whipped mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. I ordered mine medium/rare and it was perfectly cooked ! My oldest got the miso glazed salmon and the salmon was moist and perfectly cooked plus the skin had a nice crisp to it. We also received a nice salad and yummy bread rolls which all comes with purchasing the dinner and show package. Add-on items the kids got Shirley temple's which were $2.95 each , refills are an extra cost but it's nice cause they did bring out a little pitcher which filled up the kids cups at least one more glass each and a little left over. Right before the show started we put in our dessert order which comes at intermission which is about 9pm, we only got one dessert which we chose the butterfinger cheesecake $7.95 . This was so yum, but definitely want to try the chocolate mocha cake next time. We also had to try a fun drink that we ordered to have when watching the show and we got a sugar babies caramel mocha, totally enjoyed that and gave us a sugar and caffeine rush to watch the show! I really give this 4.5 but because of time and price which isn't bad ($65 each adult with dinner or $35 just show) but not great for a family that wants to go all time but would only be for a special occasion to go for the dinner and show. They are now doing lowers prices for kids which is great ($43 5-16 age and 16-21 $50 for dinner/ show) .Plus it's great that the menu does change for different shows so you can always try new things. I would so love doing this as a date night or getting this as a gift cause you can get 3 shows at a time for a bit cheaper and honestly if my husband gave that to me/ us as a gift for an anniversary or Christmas I would be excited. The production was simply WONDERFUL, the roller skate shoes were hysterical, and the food was beyond delicious. Five stars are simply not enough of a rating for the quality of the show and food. Just a note for the cast, I loved them all in song and choreography, Not to detract from their excellent singing and dancing, but a special shout out goes to "Ariel," Kaitlin Dean for being the perfect woman for the part in voice, singing and vision. I haven't been since after the pandemic, but I have enjoyed many of shows since my 10 years at this establishment. The show runners, the cast, and crew are all absolute professionals and delights. Everyone by now should have been here at least once, so you know the experience - professional sets and costumes, long runs of musicals you generally know and love somehow made to work on that small stage, and a chance to see the next Tony award winner from Fresno. But it's still got that small town community feel. You get to watch kids grow up there onstage, from young junior company showing talent during the admittedly cheesy pre shows, to grown veterans giving it their all in a professional setting. Fresno is beyond fortunate to have GCP. In a town that worships celebrity more than great art, GCP manages to give you both. One bit of research will show you the disproportionate number of kids who started on that stage who made it to Broadway, TV, and film careers. Add in the high end cocktails and delicious food choices and it's worth it in the long run to spend that money - after all, how many Fresnans still brag they saw Audra "back when." Hasn't been a bad show there since I moved here in 1985. I don't get to many of the shows so I'm part of the problem, but if you can afford it you should go. It's a Valley treasure. read more

Service and food were great. The show was enjoyable. Our big complaint was the suggested tip at the end of the show which was ridiculous. Why would RR include the show tickets on the food bill? It was purchased by phone prior to the show. Customers should only be tipping on food service only- not on show tickets. Are we now tipping actors?! read more

Love Roger Rocka's shows and theatre. Food is good but could use more options. The only downfall is the chairs they are so uncomfortable. Seem okay when you first sit but after a bit very uncomfortable. They are the same chairs from many years ago. They definitely need some new life brought to them. read more
