Let me start by saying it's freaking hot outside. If it isn't freaking hot outside for you, go ahead and skip to the next paragraph, because the following won't apply to you. We walk in and we are next in line. You use the tablet to put your name and phone number in and than you wait. They let us know that we are next, and that even though they have a small room available, their AC can't keep up with the weather outside, so they aren't using it. Just around the corner from the entrance is a large AC floor unit running. I don't know if the main unit on the roof is out, or it just can't keep up with the 105-ish degree weather outside. I don't know. Anyways while we wait, more and more people start showing up. They let us know that they are waiting for a large table for us, party of 5, to open, so they start seating smaller parties ahead of us. They estimate 20 min wait for us, but it was closer to 30. Meanwhile, the boys and I are sitting in the small room around the corner, while my wife and daughter sit near the door. Slowly I can feel the temperature in the small room creep up as more people come in. My wife tells me later that everytime the door opened, the heat just poured in on her. I start to wonder if the wait is going to be worth it. As it is, I'm already tired and hungry from a very long 3 day weekend. 15 min in, I go to the restroom to splash my face and wet a paper towel so I can wipe my face periodically. After 20 min, more people that have come in after us start getting seated too. Now I'm getting irritated. I say all this to you to say, if it's hot outside and you are determined to eat here, come at a time when it's not so busy. And keep your party to a max of 4. When we finally sat down, we were at a table designed for 8. Felt like a waste. Moving on. In the time we had to wait, plus the drive over, we have already started to narrow down what we want. I'm trusting in my wife at this point because she found the place and was able to research a few of the dishes. It's pretty cool that you get to see the workers preparing the dumplings as you walk in. We order 6 plates-seafood fried rice, Sichuan style wonton, house special beef roll (henceforth known at the burrito), tan tan noodles, deep fried dumplings and classic pork house soup dumplings. Honestly everything is good! The Sichuan wasn't that spicy to me, which I don't mind. The tan tan had a very distinct buffalo wing flavor. Probably the most filling plate was the "burrito." The deep fried dumplings were kind of basic honestly. Good starter for someone afraid to dip their toes in new foods. The classic pork house soup dumplings are something everyone should try if they want to jump in head first while still keeping it safe. My oldest continues to surprise me with his orders, this time the seafood fried rice. Even my picky youngest wanted to try an octopus tentacle. I do think we could have gotten away with ordering only 5 plates. With 6, we were stuffed and took home leftovers. I'm going to skip the AC situation in my rating. At least they tried to remedy the situation. Some things are unavoidable. I did take issue with the music, which I couldn't really hear at the table. LOVED THIS PLACE! The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and funny! We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table and the staff offered us drinks, water, etc. while waiting. The restaurant has a trendy ambiance, I loved all the matching dish ware and cutlery. The food was so fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. Our favorite was definitely the spicy pork soup dumplings! All of our food came out within about 5 minutes of ordering, which was impressive given how much we had ordered. We ordered a mix of dishes to try a little bit of everything. The House Special Beef Roll was a standout, crispy with a really nice beef-forward flavor that made it super satisfying and how I remember it tasting growing up. The classic Pork Soup Dumplings were decent, though the wrapper was a bit on the thicker side, and I felt like the pork filling could've used a little more seasoning to really enhance the flavor. The Pan-Fried Pork Buns were great, and I appreciated the heads-up from the staff that they come out piping hot and can squirt juice if you bite in too fast (they weren't kidding). The chicken was made with breast meat, which is exactly how I prefer it. We also tried the chicken pan fried dumplings. They were just okay, but I did enjoy how crispy they were. I also ordered the hand-fried pork buns. Unfortunately, those were a bit disappointing. While they were very juicy when you bit into them, I felt they lacked flavor. I'm glad I tried them, but I probably wouldn't order them again. That being said, I definitely want to come back and try some of their other dumplings. Every single item was delicious. I could tell the food was homemade and it wasn't loaded with msg or salt. It was perfectly seasoned. We also ordered the string beans, Shanghai chow mein, pork shrimp soup dumplings, char shiu bao, and crab rangoon (yes... we went all in ). We ordered two baskets of the pork soup dumplings, cucumber salad, chicken fried rice, sichuan won tons then ordered the strawberry crepe cake, strawberry mochi ice cream, and custard buns for dessert. Pork Soup Dumplings: 7/10, they were good but not the best. The flavor seemed off, I don't know how to describe it. Cucumber Salad: 3/10, the cucumber had an odd texture and tasted like watermelon rind. The sauce and spice level were nice. Chicken Fried Rice: 6/10, it seemed oily and had an odd aftertaste. Sichuan Style Wontons: 8/10, I liked these the most but they still had an odd flavor, same as the soup dumplings. All of the desserts were good. Crepe Cake: 8/10, very light. Tasted like strawberry ice cream. Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream: This came on a plate with two mochis cut in half. I didn't have any but my son said they were yummy. Pro-tip for the future is to join the wait-list on Yelp ahead of time. Dumpling U is a small chain and we're so thrilled to have another noodle and dumpling option in Fresno. For just the 2 of us, we ordered seafood Shanghai noodle, chili wontons, and crab/pork xiao long bao. Everything was really tasty, with my favorite being the Shanghai noodle. Part of it is nostalgia for me-- that fat noodle well-flavored with that perfect soy sauce color and fresh seafood (bay scallops, shrimp, and squid). The chili wontons were a close second, filled with pork and shrimp and drenched in chili oil. The XLB was a bit lacking in crab flavor and also has a thicker wrapping than usual. Had no problem getting a table during lunchtime on a Friday. They have a good amount of seating. But I'm sure it gets busy during dinner, especially this being a "newer" dim sum spot. I felt bad because my friend doesn't eat cilantro so she could barely eat it. There were already about 8 tables seated, and even though I started entering my info at the kiosk, the front greeter was able to seat me right away which was great! Water was brought out as soon as I was seated. I ordered the chrysanthemum tea as well since it was a bit chilly out. It was perfect. On the table were the condiments, vintager, soy sauce and chili oil for your use if you wanted any of that. For food, I started with the scallion pancakes, super crispy and flavorful. I will definitely be ordering these again. I also got the classic pork soup dumplings, garlic bok choy, and spicy wontons. Everything was delicious, and the filling to wrapper ratio on both the dumplings and wontons was perfect. Dumpling U recently opened, and we waited a few weeks for the initial buzz to die down before checking it out. We were excited to see how it would compare to Din Tai Fung. The restaurant layout is really nice, with seating on both sides of the entry and a small waiting area where you can actually watch the ladies hand-rolling dumplings fresh on the spot. Definitely such a cool touch. We ordered the pork sausage fried rice, pork dumplings (potstickers), and the spicy soup dumplings. Everything was delicious. The dumplings are larger than what I remember from Din Tai Fung. The soup dumplings could've used a little bit more heat. I did not notice a distinct spiciness to them versus the ones that I've had that were not spicy at all. While they're not quite at that DTF level, they're still the best soup dumplings we've had in Fresno so far. We've tried another nearby spot that didn't measure up, but Dumpling U is definitely the closest we've found to our So-Cal favorite. It absolutely satisfies that soup dumpling craving when we can't make it down to LA. We even recognized one of the servers, so it was nice seeing a familiar face. Service was excellent, provided by Cody and the ambiance was pleasant, and the dining area is bright with comfortable seating. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. This place was very delicious! The service was excellent and we were checked on often and taken care of! The wait was a bit long, but they do have a waitlist to make it easier for you to see your spot in line to be seated. While the food was good, I was a bit surprised by the portions. I feel like entrees tend to be a bit bigger than what we got. Most of the items weren't really shareable, so do know that. My personal favorite was the braised beef ramen! Soft opening: walking in you automatically see the dumpling ladies, which was giving din tai fung vibes which I love and appreciate! We ordered what we usually get at din tai fung not necessarily to compare but to see if this will be our spot when we have the cravings. We ordered the soup dumplings, schezuan dumplings, and braised beef noodles. The schezuan dumplings were ok. The sauce was really just chili oil, no other flavor. I felt like the dumpling itself did not have much taste to it. The braised beef noodles were cooked well. I loved the beef, bok choy, and noodles. The broth felt a little bland but once I put a little soy sauce in it, it was so good. Now to the dumplings... ok.. I really enjoyed the soup dumpling. By itself it has flavorful taste and you add the vinegar to it and it's 10x's better. Service was ok. I think they're new so I'll give them grace.
