I actually really liked this place, and their super-local menu (which you might not assume from a place that's not located in the central hipster district of Ithaca). People in my party had excellent prime rib, chicken and fish meals, and I had the house burger. I usually order medium well because most places make that still pretty medium, but this place did it pretty well - so I'd ask for a medium next time. The fries were excellent. We really enjoyed the loaded baked potato appetizer, was far less salty than I've had at other places. Great beer list (including local and NY beers). My friend had the "frozen white wine" but said it was MEH. The big issue (and loss of a star and maybe should have lost 2) is that the onion rings appetizer were WAY WAY too salty. And not just for me who is a bit sensitive to salt, but everyone in the party could eat it. We tried (because they were well cooked and tasty) but the salt was overpowering. We ended up eating the onions and taking the salty batter off. When we told the waitress her response was "drink more water" which beyond being an unsatisfying intervention, was also kind of rude. We'd usually expect something like a replacement or a comp for something inedible. If not at least an apology. read more

How has no one written about this place yet? Do Cornell students not make it up to Lansing anymore? I'll admit, it has been a few years since I have been. This was a 'nice' dinner back when I was a student, but over a decade later, I went with some local friends and found it to be just as memorable. The food is sublime and the price more affordable than many comparable restaurants down in Ithaca. I can't remember the vast majority of meals I had as a student or during my travels, but I'll always remember the yummy mushroom ravioli, paired with a nice pint of Yeungling (which I miss dreadfully out west). Next time I'm in town for a college reunion, this will be my first choice for a meal. read more

This place gets 5 stars from me because everything was good. The waiter who took our order was nice and very helpful. The bar tender was well informed on all the beers he even gave me a taste of the beer they brew in house OMG was it good. The food was very good I had the wings special 2lbs for $11.99 and a pint of the house beer I think I had died an gone to heaven. My wife and I spent the last two nights at this place and loved it. It was built in 1830 and is relatively close to downtown Ithaca. The first floor is the brewpub restaurant while the 2nd & 3rd floors are an inn with rooms for rent, bed and breakfast style. Being able to stroll downstairs and be in a bar with their own brew on tap was seriously kick ass. Their pale ale was damn good, as was their cream ale. Our food was solid, but not amazing. Still, the staff was warm, the beer was cold, and the building just oozes history. Worth checking out, whether you're a local looking for a new spot to unwind after work or an out of towner looking for a fun place to stay. read more

The Risotto is to die for. Everything else I have had here is awesome. The service is friendly and always attentive but not too attentive. Everything is fresh, local, and chef made. This is one of the hidden Gems in the Ithaca area. I have yet to get anything not worth the price here. The whole place has a very homey vibe, the decor is very in line with the age and aesthetic of the building. The food is nothing but good, the service is nothing but good. The menu changes every couple of weeks depending upon availability of ingredients. But nothing here is not good, so I would suggest just going and trying it. read more

First time visit, busy night, they sat us in the "Pub" area and took our drink orders, 10 minutes later we got our drinks then no one came back to our table for another 30 minutes. When they did come back they asked if we were ready to order our food or if we needed more time. (Really!?!?) I ordered the Wild Mushroom Ravioli that came with a salad, the dinner came out fairly quickly but I never received the salad. The dinner was drowning in red peppers and onions that weren't listed in the description of the meal, I would have made a different choice if I had known that as I can not eat onions. Wanted to love it and left severely disappointed. Beer was very good. About all that was good though. Waiter was extremely slow and seemed to bring one thing at a time. Not good to wait 10 minutes for bread to come. And supposed to be served with herbed oil. Had to wait 5 more minutes for him to pour some oil on a plate of dried spices. Bread was gummy. Salmon was dried out. Pasta dish had nice fresh ingredients but they ruined it by putting way too much red pepper on it so it was overwhelmingly spicy hot. Herbed pork dish was raw in the middle. Sent the pasta dish back and left more than half of the other dishes on the plate. He at least took the pasta dish off the bill and comped one beer. Felt like I wasted 70 bucks. read more

Very good ingredients and service. The restaurant side has a quiet old pub ambiance. Good for a quiet friendly discussion between friends. Service is kind and food is very nicely cooked. The menu is short, but very well executed. A few wines by the glass. As in most restaurant, red wine by the glass is served at room temperature (too warm). Interesting local wine and beer selection. Very disappointing. We like to stay at a nice B&B INSTEAD of a motel. The only good feature was the bed was firm. The breakfast was chintzy. 1 scrambled egg and fried potatoes, no meat offered, did have bread & bagel to toast but you serve yourself. college girls manning the breakfast, i have always been greeted for breakfast by the owners. We didn't eat at the restaurant but did belly up to the bar. Watched the bartender dig something out of a drink with her finger and serve it for a diner. it may have been a great place 20 years ago but if you want the b&b experience pass this place up They also had a party going on one night in the dining area that was right above our room. noise until 1 am. The home brewed beer is just ok, nothing special. the mud parking lot was a nice touch, and above the mud, lots of ice. made for a slippery arrival. read more

A cute place in Lansing. The atmosphere was awesome - love the pub feel, lighting, and the super unique decorations. The food was fresh, but I'd say pretty average. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered the drunken chicken sandwich - both were decent, although the drunken chicken sandwich had a very unique taste to it that wasn't my absolute favorite. Staying at a nearby bed and breakfast, and wanted to eat dinner before it got too late. The hostess suggested Rogues. I was not impressed with the outside appearance, but am glad hunger won. They have an eclectic menu, with beef and seafood choices, and some unique vegetarian options. I had a Cayuga Lake flight that featured two reds and two white wines. They were generous sample sizes, each about half a normal portion, so about two glasses of wine! It was Friday night, so I ordered the New England clam chowder. Yumm! It was not very thick, and was very tasty. I'm pretty sure it contained bacon. Not a problem for me, but others might want to inquire before ordering.... For my entree, I had the curried butternut and chick pea cakes over rice. There were two, so not a huge portion, but just enough. And that meant I had room for dessert! Triple chocolate cheesecake. Ohhhh... I had two bites and took the rest back to the b and b. it was so rich, I ate it over the next hour. Huge slice, very tall, and probably a million calories. Oh well! The total for the soup, entree, dessert and wine flight was just over $30. Great food, great prices! read more

This charming restaurant has quite a history. Well at least their menu claims it to have an interesting history, including underground railroads, prisons, and lots of shenanigans. The food was actually better than I expected. I had tortellini with a southwest bacon cream sauce, and also the fried calamari. Both were tasty, but the desert of a chocolate cheese cake was insanely rich, too rich for me. The building is amazing. The beer is just going through the motions. It lacks the freshness that should come with a local brew and the creativity that is the hallmark of the current American Craft Ale. Fifteen years ago it would be great to find this beer, but today it's forgettable. We tried a round of deserts--fine but forgettable. The ganache lacked depth (although my companion begged to differ), the ice cream lacked cream and volume. The cobbler had deep berries and a buttery biscuit, but could use more biscuit. Maybe I was soured by the sticky table that seemed as old as the building, but I expected more. read more

A comfortable room decorated with old wood paneling and beams, old license plates, road signs - had real character. This is worth the 20 minute drive out of Ithaca - try it before sundown to enjoy the short lake shore views. The food was pub food but upgraded with some really tasty options beyond the typical burgers and fish and chips (that were also on the menu). The salmon and haddock for example were nicely prepared. I agree- it's surprising that no one has written about this gem. Only recently discovered it after moving from Ithaca to Lansing. Had a full compliment of the menu: appetizers, dinner, desserts (yes, two!) and drinks. A place for just your significant other or the family; my kids loved the food and keep asking to go back. The wait staff was extremely friendly and the food amazing. A bit pricy but well worth it. Only negative was that we were charged for the kids dinners at full price when it was $1 Tuesday kid dinners...but we didn't mind and gave the restaurant (and server) without hesitation their full due. Have family coming in from out of town and already looked at booking a place for them to stay here, as this functions as a bed and breakfast as well. My wife and I were staying here for their B&B. What we didn't know was we would get one of the best restaurants in the area. Both my wife and I are vegetarians. We ate here twice. The first time the dining room was closed for some special occasion, so we were sat in the pub area. It was calm, nice, and well-served. If I lived nearby, I could see myself grabbing a beer here. The second time, we sat outside on the porch, which lacks any sort of view, but was nice, and had great service. They have their own beers they brew. They are fine, and I would give them a try. But they also have an excellent selection of other beers, if you are not feeling adventurous. They have tofu wings, which are really amazing. The mushroom soup we had was perfect. The mozzarella wedges were great. I had the ravioli as well, which was great. Anyway, great food. I would highly recommend trying this place if you are around. read more

When we come out to dinner, we shouldn't be thirsty and hungry for a half hour after we sit down. This place could be so much better. Sheesh, at least check in and fill our waters! We had a horrible experience at Rogue's Harbor Inn. The building was beautiful. Our service was absolutely terrible. We arrived around 8:30pm. There were a couple tables in the restaurant. They supposedly close at 10pm. We sat outside with our 4 small children. We ordered within a few minutes. Our server didn't offer any help with the menu. I'm not sure she even introduced herself. We ordered an appetizer along with entrees. Mine came with a salad. Then we waited....and waited....and waited... Finally, our food arrived. Not apps, not my salad, but the entrees. Almost everything we ordered was fried, except for the pulled pork, so there was no reason it should have taken so long. My guess would be that the server just didn't put it in on time. When we asked about our app, she ran off to talk to the cook. She told us she never put it in and the fryers were turned off already. She said she wouldn't charge us. Oh really? That's so kind of you to not charge us for something we never received! But then 5 mins later she came out with the app, saying the cook made it anyway. So, guess what? She charged us for it! The reason to order an app is to not have to sit for 30-45 starving while you wait for your meal...which we shouldn't have had to wait that long for, being the only table in the restaurant at this point....but no, we received it after our entree. I still had to ask her about my salad. I didn't get a chance at the same time as the app, because she ran off. She acted like the salad was no big deal. She didn't apologize, she just went to get it. She just acted as though we didn't matter at all. They seemed to be closing down the restaurant as we left, even though it was only coming up on 9:30pm. We spent less time eating than we did waiting. We were charged for everything. I still left her a fairly good tip...about 19%. I figured she gave us terrible service because we were a family with small children, who are less likely to tip well. I didn't want to confirm her reason for treating us badly. I thought maybe she wouldn't treat the next family as badly. She deserved nothing...not even the small wage her employer pays her. With the tip, we spent just under $100. We never spend this much with our children. I would have been much happier going to Panera or Five Guys. Although I am pretty sure that our entire bad experience was completely our server's fault, I'm not sure I would ever come here again. read more

I was told by a local that this place was sort of hit or miss. We had great service, but only so-so food. I had a burger which wasn't bad but would have been better if it wasn't so over cooked. My co-diner had a chicken dish that was cooked nicely, but had a sauce that was watery and bitter. The bread that started the meal looked good, but tasted like white wonder bread. It was nice to eat on the porch. I hope they consider a better bread, like sour dough, and are more attentive in the kitchen. read more

I thought the food was fair to good but that the portions as a rule were miniscule. Prices were low, but I think they reflect the aforementioned qualities. My crab cakes were very small, tasted OK, but were light on crab meat. Priced accordingly. The beet salad I had was very tasty, but very small also, and actually overpriced. Finally, I had a very good cake made of butternut and chick peas which was actually a good value. So mixed results in the food department. Wine list was good, fairly priced, consisting of NY State wines, but presented inaccurately as being listed from driest to sweetest, by a waitress who seemed only barely old enough to drink but yet who would not be challenged on that point - she was quite the sarcastic, unpleasant person. On balance, this was not a terrible experience, just an annoying one that could have been much better. I believe that Beth is the one who was high (or has never visited a good restaurant OR is a relative/friend of the owners) if she comes on this honest web site and says it's a great place to eat. We are never disappointed at Rogue's! The food is always excellent and the waitstaff is friendly and prompt. We love the atmosphere and the decor as well. We've had guests stay in the bed & breakfast and they were very pleased with their stay. We've also shown up to the restaurant unexpectedly with a large party of 12 on a Saturday night (eek, sorry about that!) and were given a great table and excellent service. Horrible under new ownership! An hour and a half for 2 burgers and 2 orders of wings? 1 burger was ordered well done- you coul snap it in half. Wings were spoiled and they served them anyway.
