Solid steakhouse with great ambiance, friendly service and well executed menu. We brought our own wine and ordered a good variety of dishes. Everything was delicious and at no point did we feel rushed or ignored. A great spot for anything from a romantic dinner to a business meeting.

Celebrated my friend's birthday here. The restaurant was notified ahead of time so on top of one of the menus it read "Happy Birthday, xxxx" That was cool. The place was packed so reservations are a must. The ambience was dark, which seems to be a thing with steak houses. Luckily there was a table light for my companions with poor eyesight. (haha). I ordered a chocolate Martini which was well made. As a table we shared their grilled octopus and their roasted beets salad. Both amazing! For dinner I ordered their Branzini, which was a special that evening, and a side of creamed Spinach. So good. The chocolate cake for dessert is shareable and delicious as well. I honestly don't think you can go wrong ordering anything here. Service was great and attentive. Another plus is there is a free public parking lot across the street and valet if needed.

From the very start when we were seated at our spacious booth, Greg was a very polite & patient waiter who knew all about the menu items we were inquiring about and gave us wonderful recommendations! We ended up getting the flat iron steak prepared in two different ways but of course served medium rare!!! The first being Sophia style and the other just salt & pepper. Both were melt in your mouth goodness!!! The ambiance @ Sophia Steak is dark and moody almost romantic but the overall vibes are more like modern mad men steak house!!! I promise you anything that is ordered will be over the top delicious! I have never received anything that was not top notch. I also appreciate that when we were served our steaks one was not the one we had ordered and Greg corrected the error right away! The issue was resolved & very seamless!! Another standout is the the servers kept our water glasses full during our whole dinner!!! Martine also brought more warm bread rolls & whipped butter which were so scrumptious! Sophias Steak is a Wilmette gem and a true classic when looking for somewhere to dine in & have a delicious meal!!!

Decided to book Sophia's for a birthday dinner and it didn't disappoint! From the amazing staff to the adorable custom menu, they truly put detail into making your experience great. They split the wedge since we were splitting and it was just such a kind gesture! I ordered the branzino Friday special and my mom got the prime flat iron which was cooked to perfection and so juicy! The shiitake mushrooms with my fish really took the flavor to the next level. I loved the side of mushrooms and the lobster appetizer but the side of creamed spinach was a bit gritty for me, I like my cream of spinach a bit creamier. The restaurant is stunning with amazing service, delicious drinks and food! Highly recommend for any celebration.

A truly wonderful experience at Sophia Steak for a Saturday night dinner date. The staff was so friendly from the host to the multiple servers that handled our table. Our server was wonderful and really made our experience even better. We had a perfect table in the back corner of the restaurant. It felt like a perfectly romantic spot away from the other tables. We had the crispy lobster and shishito appetizer and loved it. We both ordered steaks, I had the 8 oz filet and my beau ordered the skirt steak. They were both cooked perfectly. The brussel sprouts and whipped potatoes were delicious. For dessert we had the Buck Russell's Chocolate Cake, which our server kindly gave us complimentary. We were very stuffed needless to say and it was truly a memorable date night. We will for sure be coming back to Sophia Steak for a special night in the future.

I've been here a handful of times, and this place is truly a gem. It's the perfect blend of delicious food, warm and welcoming staff, and a cozy ambiance. It can get a bit loud, so keep that in mind, but we don't mind at all. We've tried the steak, fried lobster, fish, and sides like broccoli, mashed potatoes, and fries, everything is consistently delicious. But the real standout is the dessert. The key lime pie is great, and the chocolate layer cake is absolutely to die for! If you have room for dessert, do yourself a favor and get the chocolate cake, you won't be disappointed.

At the end of our meal he turned to me and said "it either used to be way better here or maybe the restaurants in the burbs have just gotten a lot better over time." Our meal last night at Pescadero was just A-OK. Our waiter got the job done, but wasn't overly helpful. Ex: he asked after we put in our entree if we wanted anything else and we decided to throw in some oysters. He then told us he didn't know if he could get them out before our entrees since he already put in the order. Well he asked, didn't he? When we asked if the east or west coast oysters were meatier his response was "they are all the same here." They get a star for having Riesling and it was a pretty tasty one. We had very unexciting shrimp cocktail and oysters for our apps. I would skip both next time, which is sad for a seafood & oyster bar. For my entree I got the scallops special. According to my last review from here i loved the scallops. These scallops (served with risotto) were enjoyable, but would probably order something else next time. And my husband said his salmon was just fine. I love a good seafood & oyster bar so bummed this didn't live up to our past meals here, but it's a nice atmosphere so was still a nice Sat evening out in downtown Wilmette.

I was trying to find a place at least midway between us and discovered Carlos and Carlos on Yelp. Carlos and Carlos is old school from the perspective you actually have to call the restaurant to make a reservation. The space itself is located in what I think is a condo building. The space itself is compact, with tables relatively close together. We ended up sitting at table next to the kitchen door, which for me turned out not to be too bad as we were not sitting on top of other folks. The restaurant and bar were packed as it was a Saturday. Based on the size of the space and number of tables, I would strongly suggest making a reservation if you go there. We started out with fresh bread and one of their specials for the night: flash fried calamari served w/fresh tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers, shaved garlic, black olives, capers & garlic butter. This was a first for me as I have never had calamari served this way and it was great. Definitely a dish I would drive back to get. The bread was wonderful and hot. I could see through the kitchen as fresh bread was being pulled out of either a warmer or oven, not sure. It was served with some sort of olive oil and pesto, I think. It made for a lovely spread on the bread. For dinner I ordered a dish called "Meatballs" and it was just that, a whole lotta meatballs with some spaghetti thrown in as a side...HAHAHA! Not complaining, just staying a fact. The meatballs and pasta were good, but I would say there was a fair amount of garlic in the dish. I had my dish as a leftover and as I was warming it up, The Doctor commented that he could smell the garlic. The Doctor had the Pollo Vesuvio, which also came with pasta. I had a small piece and it was pretty nice. Again there was more meat than pasta, but again we were not complaining. The chicken was nice and tender and had a lovely flavor to it. My GF got the Risotto Al Fungi (Arborio served with wild mushrooms & goat cheese). Prior to sampling her dish, I would have absolutely stated that this was a dish I would not order in a restaurant as I wouldn't have any interest in it. I tried a spoonful of my GF's and was amazed at how good it was! The broth that the risotto was cooked in was chicken and I think beef. That with the goat cheese made this a very nice dish and the second reason I would drive here to do a repeat visit for dinner. Portion sizes were nice as The Doctor and I had plenty to eat and enough for light snack the next day. My GF had no leftovers, she became a member of the clean plate club. For dessert we shared a slice of the chocolate mousse cake, which was really nice. It had a lovely dark flavor to it and was creamy in texture. Service was nice and everyone was friendly. There is plenty of street parking within walking distance as well. While this is a bit of a drive for us to get to since it is outside of the city, I could see coming back here. I think I want to try a serving of that risotto on my own instead of a taste.

As expected, the restaurant was packed, both inside and in the beautiful courtyard. Families filled the dining room, with children of all ages at about 90% of the tables. The team at Pomeroy has been so consistent and professional, that all of our dishes were delivered at a perfect and steady pace, and qualities remained high. Although we got a different server each time we went, they were all very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  This time, Carlisle did such a wonderful job even though she was super busy, and she wished me a happy Mother's Day several times to make sure that my day was special.  I must mention that the friendly hostess greeted me with well wishes too, and said happy Mother's day again when we left. We had noticed that they had replaced the couch in front of the courtyard fireplace with more tables.  Who could blame them when they had so many patrons to seat.  However, the courtyard still looked gorgeous. Now on to the food and drinks.  I had a mocktail Bleu 75 ($13) that's my favorite, my husband had a glass of chardonnay ($17), our daughter had a Le Spritz Strawberry ($16).  We shared an order of Sea Scallops ($23) and a Warm Tomato Tarte ($19).  I had my go-to dish which was the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38), I loved the seared skin that was crispy on the edges. Husband and Daughter each ordered a Spring Halibut ($92 for 2) from the Mother's Day menu.  We ordered 2 Strawberry Crème Brulee ($28 for 2), and I shared 1 with my husband.  I also had a cappuccino ($6). The check came up to $283.05 before tips (they add a 3% surcharge to each guest check, which may be removed upon request, we didn't).  As always, our dinner was very enjoyable and it's worth the money.  I had a very happy Mother's Day dinner, and it ended a wonderful weekend with high notes!  We will keep returning!

I've had many clutch spots over the years as I moved around, but it took me a minute to find my North Shore go-to. But here I am, a local for half a year now, and my go-to is Ni's, 100%. Lisa, the owner extraordinaire, is friendly, engaging, and an absolute customer service star. Not to mention a formidable chef. She has an obvious passion for food and its cultural history, and I love talking with her about it. The whole crew at Ni's is awesome and always happy to chat or handle any dish alterations. They clearly care about their clientele, and it's one of the things that keeps me coming back. My "must have" is the veggie summer rolls. I get them every time. Really, really good. And after living in the Vietnamese neighborhood of San Francisco for a few years, eating out almost daily, I've had my fair share of summer rolls. The produce at Ni's is always fresh, and I love how they cleverly use jicama for crunch. The rolls come with peanut sauce, but Ni's makes a delicious vegan fish sauce in-house that I go with almost every time. Banh Mi, Veggie Pho, Crispy Tofu, Fried Rice, I've had everything on the menu that is vegan or can be made so, and I'll gladly order them all again and again. This is not an all-vegan restaurant by any stretch (fear not, meat eaters), but Lisa goes out of her way to have options, and I've never been anything but satisfied. Even my kindergartner is into the veggie Pho broth and summer rolls, and he's not the easiest to please. Wilmette is lucky to have Ni's. I hope everyone knows that. They're tucked around the corner from the busier area of Central Ave and Wilmette Ave, and I've been doing my best to spread the word. "You've never been to Ni's?! Get the hell outta here.." Nice ambiance that's casual enough to feel comfortable bringing my kids, but upscale enough for the evening to feel like a nice night out. Loved the appies - we got the cauliflower hummus and deviled eggs - highly recommend both. As for entrees, chicken sandwich was perfectly fried crispy with not too much breading, on a biscuit. Fries were just ok. They were unfortunately out of the schnitzel I wanted to try so I had the halibut special instead. The fish was perfectly cooked, but the composition of the fish was rather confusing - the lobster bisque-like sauce was fantastic on its own, but overpowered the delicate halibut. The crispy yuca strips went perfectly with the fish, but the dish was finished off with lots of shishito peppers - again, way too overpowering. I would have preferred a much subtler vegetable. Kids Mac and cheese was fantastic, with a hint of what I think was thyme. The drink list was heavily spirit -forward. I ended up getting a sangria which was good, but my husband thought the old fashioned was terrible. The balance of spirit vs bitters was completely off, plus it was served over tiny ice instead of a large cube. To top it all off, the cherry was muddled.
