We decided to go here for our 46th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed! The cuisine was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked exactly the correct way for the seafood and the steak. So delicious! The wait staff were efficient, always making sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was comfortable and the over head music fir the evening. We had a wonderful eating experience and suggest to all you experience it yourself.

The positive reviews outweigh the negative so we decided on The Lobster Shack to celebrate our new jobs. Having never been there before, we'd make up our own minds. WOW! We were not disappointed! The service, food and atmosphere were all great! Not pricey for excellent seafood either. Can easily pay more for good seafood. Highly recommend! Go hungry...they feed you well.

I've been wanting to try the lobster shack for so long! I was in Latrobe & Irwin last week and figured I better make the trek over to finally try it. I got the Connecticut lobster rolls and the lb of steamed shrimp to take home. I ate the lobster rolls right away, the twin rolls was good and I thought good for the price. The lobster was warm and I loved the butter. The lobster was really small though, not many big chunks at all. I didn't know it came with hush puppies so I ordered an extra side and had a bunch that ended up going to waste. The shrimp was ok, a little overdone and tough. Would for sure come back for lobster rolls if I was in the area again!

Seafood Boat

This was the first visit to Lobster Shack for our 7 person group and each of us enjoyed something different. I had The Seafood Boat and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The platter had a small lobster tail, about 8 jumbo shrimp, and a LOT of crab legs plus hush puppies, salad, a baked potato and sautéed zucchini. It was delicious! The service was prompt and friendly, and no one hovered over us. I read reviews that ripped the decor and reported that the food was served in plastic baskets lined with paper. Only one person in our cohort received her lobster roll, fries, and hush puppies in a basket because it was a sandwich; the rest of us were served on white ceramic platters because we ordered entrees. The tables had fabric tablecloths and napkins; the decor is casual seaside. Yes, it's expensive; my platter was $65 but it was a lot of food and it was well prepared. This is a nice place; give it a try.

This was an easy five stars. My wife and I came here for a "Valentine's" dinner. We both got the seafood boat. To be honest, we could have shared one boat and tried something else as well. The place is small and pretty casual. It sits in the middle of a neighborhood off of 130. The food was all awesome! The boat included a salad, potato, several clusters of crab legs, a huge pile of shrimp, and off course a nice Maine lobster tail

We ordered takeout here last night for dinner. We called around 4:50 and they said our order would be ready at 5:50, so just be prepared for a little bit of a longer wait since they are busy. My mom and I ordered the lobster ocean fries to share and my husband ordered the lobster tacos. Everything was ready when I went to pick up our food. Everything we ordered looked delicious, and it tasted so so good!! The prices are a little high, but you most definitely get your money worth because there was a lot of lobster in our dishes. They also sell desserts there as well (pies, lobster cookies) that I will try next time. Go try this place. It is so good!!!

In Westmoreland county diversity of thought and food are scarce, and often I find myself reaching at the top shelf when I seek something different to eat out here on the gateway of the Appalachias. But, this place truly attempts to bring the ocean to your doorstep, and in some ways does so successfully. Surf & Turf Fries I personally feel like this is a solid bite, but the price is $40 and too expensive to really enjoy. The steak is over cooked and the lobster meat is not feathered and distributed evenly over the fries. I think this would make more sense cooking the steak less and cutting even finer. Followed with the crab meat I would divide this entree in two, use less fries and charge $20 rather than $40. Is it bad, absolutely not--but for $40 there is much to be desired. 6.4/10 Buffalo Salad This was an absolute treat, and for $15 might be the best salad you can get in Westmoreland county. What appears to be a half pound of Buffalo chicken and served with an entire egg, I would say the owner doesn't want you leaving hungry. My only critique would be the salad arrangement. Iceberg heavy I would use an assortment of romaine lettuce and iceberg to create some volume, flavor profile and color. *The balsamic is home made and absolutely perfect* 7.6/10

The inside is a large, long space with plenty of seating. Your best deals are if you go during lunch hours when they have special pricing. Especially if you want to try out this type of meal but aren't sure if you are going to like it or not. They have a standard seafood boil menu. You can order your choice of seafood (or do the combos), choose your seasoning and your spice level. If someone in your party doesn't like boils, they also have a variety of fried items on their menu as well. There is also a full bar with a wide variety of drink options. I really enjoyed my meals here. I felt like it was a perfect amount of food and everything was packed with flavor. Skip the desserts, though. If you want something sweet, go somewhere else after. Their desserts are just made by someone else and defrosted to order. A fun place to experience a different type of meal. Definitely recommend.

Everyone was satisfied about the meal. It was quite pricey, which was expected when we walked in because of the ambiance. So why only 3 stars? I live in Las Vegas and my guy lives in this area (long distance). Well, we were with friends that my guy hadn't spent time with in a while, and this was my first time meeting them. Nice double date! 3 out of 4 of us got multiple drinks and we were enjoying our dinner. We got dessert too. The manager checked on us once. We probably stayed about 20ish minutes after desert while talking and finishing drinks. We got up and used the restroom, and saw the mgr in there. We heard her say that our table "finally decided to leave." Very unprofessional when you are sharing the same restroom as customers to then be talking about them. I'd say the same thing had she not been talking about us but another table. I have 20+ years in the hospitality industry and that rubbed me the wrong way. Food wasn't good enough to come back, so this is a place that relies on ambience and service, which we'd come back for if the service were great...be hospitable. The server was knowledgeable and kind; it's too bad the manager couldn't keep her thoughts about well paying, well tipping customers to an area where customers couldn't overhear.

We went on Valentine's Day, and the evening started our wonderful, with cocktails at the bar and the lovely touch of the owner's grandson gifting a red rose to the ladies. But then the food came. It was a set menu priced $99 per person. All was going well, until one of our entrees arrived, and they sent out raw chicken. Not slightly questionable - clearly still raw. I wouldn't expect that at Denny's never mind a fine dining establishment. The server was apologetic and took the other plate back into the kitchen to keep it warm so that we could eat together. When the food came back out, my husband's crab cakes had gone dry. On my plate, they had simply removed the raw chicken - not finished cooking it or replacing it, but removed it so that there were only two small pieces of chicken, and a huge pile of gnocchi and a huge mess on the plate where they had not taken the time to clean it up. Which was obviously disappointing. When the bill came, my husband questioned whether something should have been taken off the check based on our experience. The owner came over and eventually took $100 off the bill, which was absolutely fine. But then she concluded with "are you satisfied now, because I would like your table back to give to someone else". I don't recall an owner ever being so rude to a couple who have just spent $400 in a restaurant. Customers spending that kind of money should never feel rushed or spoken to like that (we still had half a bottle of wine, which we might have finished there had our experience been different). All she did was encourage us to write this review and ensure that we will never go back.

Our server was excellent and the auxiliary staff were courteous and efficient. We started with a calamari appetizer which was a little spicy but delicious. Beware of the two Thai chilies in the mix! Next my husband had the lobster bisque. It was quite rich with a large chunk of lobster as a garnish. Our main courses were a 10 ounce filet, wild caught shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and Chilean sea bass. Everyone loved their entrees. Our son especially loved the filet, it was so tender. We ordered two side dishes for the table and they were plenty for the three of us. Decadent lobster mashed potatoes and crabmeat fried rice. We shared a dessert, creme brûlée which was topped with fresh berries and served with chewy cocoa snowflake cookies. Overall the food was excellent. Service started out a little rocky. I had made a reservation online and it would only let me choose a high top. We don't like high tops so I called the restaurant a few days before and they assured me they could accommodate us with a regular table, not to worry. Upon entering and giving my name for the reservation, the Maitre D'être said it's for a high top. I explained that I'd called and we didn't want a high top. He said he could only offer us a booth in the lounge, so we took it. The lounge had a jazz trio playing and the music was a bit too loud for comfortable conversation. The server had to talk above the music to be heard by us. Luckily they took a break and when they came back the volume was lower. As we were leaving I noticed there was a whole dining room with empty tables which were NOT high tops. So why did they seat us in the lounge? Our drink orders were pretty simple, however because they serve the cocktails from the shaker, the server mixed up the dinks and poured my husband's margarita into my 'dirty' martini glass. So I had a three blue cheese olive margarita! A margarita-tini! He realized what he did, apologized and ran off to get another margarita for my husband. I had eaten the olives and tasted the margarita, which was very good. When he returned, he asked if I still wanted the martini and I laughed and said, yes, that what I ordered. So my husband got the benefit of two Margaritas for the price of one and I got three extra blue cheese olives! That was the only goof up. The rest of the meal was flawlessly served. I felt that even though the prices are high, the portion size and the quality of the food provide a good value. You expect to pay more in a place like this. It was well worth it in my opinion. And if you are there during Happy Hour you can choose cocktails and appetizers from the Happy Hour menu which is quite reasonable.
