(And I'm a scallop snob) For entrees my boyfriend got the stuffed shrimp and they were so good! I wanted a little bit of everything, so I got the seafood boat. And let me tell ya, they give you so much food! The menu describes the crab legs as over a pound, pretty sure I got like 3 lbs of them! I've been wanting to try the lobster shack for so long! I was in Latrobe & Irwin last week and figured I better make the trek over to finally try it. I got the Connecticut lobster rolls and the lb of steamed shrimp to take home. I ate the lobster rolls right away, the twin rolls was good and I thought good for the price. The lobster was warm and I loved the butter. The lobster was really small though, not many big chunks at all. I didn't know it came with hush puppies so I ordered an extra side and had a bunch that ended up going to waste. The shrimp was ok, a little overdone and tough. Been wanting to try this place for a while now (I think they used to be in another location), and we finally decided to visit on Valentines weekend. Everything was amazing. I will lead with my one negative comment which is that our server kind of stopped checking on us as frequently as we would have liked after we got our meals, but I could tell she had many tables to serve and we simply flagged her down when we needed something, so this really didn't affect us too negatively. Aside from that, she was very kind and helpful. The seafood here was so good, everything was cooked to perfection. I've been to some places where maybe the lobster was good but the shrimp or another component was overcooked, like they put all their effort into one thing and forgot about the rest. But here, even the shrimp was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The lobster tail effortlessly popped right out of the shell, and the serving of crab legs was enormous. The side salad and side baked potato were also very good. I had a bite of my husband's pasta dish and that was also extremely delicious. I have to say, this seafoods was better than I've had at some places on the coast. They really knew what they were doing on the night of our visit. The service was prompt and friendly, and no one hovered over us. I read reviews that ripped the decor and reported that the food was served in plastic baskets lined with paper. Only one person in our cohort received her lobster roll, fries, and hush puppies in a basket because it was a sandwich; the rest of us were served on white ceramic platters because we ordered entrees. The tables had fabric tablecloths and napkins; the decor is casual seaside. Yes, it's expensive; my platter was $65 but it was a lot of food and it was well prepared. The steak is over cooked and the lobster meat is not feathered and distributed evenly over the fries. I think this would make more sense cooking the steak less and cutting even finer. Followed with the crab meat I would divide this entree in two, use less fries and charge $20 rather than $40. Is it bad, absolutely not--but for $40 there is much to be desired. 6.4/10 Buffalo Salad This was an absolute treat, and for $15 might be the best salad you can get in Westmoreland county. What appears to be a half pound of Buffalo chicken and served with an entire egg, I would say the owner doesn't want you leaving hungry. My only critique would be the salad arrangement. I finally decided to give it a try since all the good reviews. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. What was in other photos was not what I received. for a price of over $30 it was so not worth it. The "rolls" seemed like a slice of bread folded in half and crimped on the bottom and toasted with finely shredded "lobster" and some butter. I was supposed to get Connecticut lobster rolls with hot drawn butter. I will not be back at that price point for what I received. As a seafood lover, and long anticipating a visit to The Lobster Shack, I really wanted to love this food, but I was underwhelmed. The idea of a lobster roll, with or without mayo (turns out they didn't have mayo anyway) sounded so delicious. But lobster on a bread bun, turns out is not my favorite. I even tried to eat the lobster without the bread and it had no flavor. I even poured the butter on, and it was still meh. I guess I just like the whole hot lobster, not chopped, it's just not the same. And for the price (including the American style of expected 20% tipping) I could have gone to a fine dining place, not sure how much lobster costs these days. Lunch was $175 for 4 people. Maybe lobster isn't all it's cracked up to be, not just here, but anywhere. I remember getting a $5 lobster roll at McDonalds in Maine once and being thrilled it was so delicious. I didn't get a good look at the menu, because I was set on this lobster roll, but I'm sure there other things I would like better like the soup or salad. The shrimp appetizer was good. I like the casual atmosphere. I do think paper plates, plastic baskets and canned soda is more for the boardwalk. I would give 3.5 stars if I could because I like having a different type of restaurant in the area. If they had all you can eat crab and beer nights, this restaurant would be ideal. Now let's get to the food I had the lobster tacos(3), and lobster bisque and a complementary beer where's my meal.The lobster tacos were as described, what got me was there was a lot of watch the meat in everyone.This was real lobster meat no imitation stuff. The loss of this was probably the best I ever had anywhere also included the most lobster meat (Pieces). Everything was excellent! They even brought me out an extra beer halfway through my meal. Service was super friendly and they were all working together collectively. They do not have a liquor license but was giving out complimentary Miller light drafts! Entrees came with a salad and it wasn't your basic iceberg lettuce and tomatoes salad it was a lovely mixed field greens with nuts cranberries and all of their dressings are homemade! I felt it important to write a review about my last visit here because I feel there has been a big change since moving locations. The new place has a TERRIBLE atmosphere. The lighting is dim, the noise level is atrocious, and the food was just ok. Decor was over the top. Our server was polite, but I could tell she was ready to be done for the night. Several others attended to our table getting plates and drinks, but without their assistance we would have had horrible service. She only checked on us one time when the food came out. I had the stuffed shrimp, which I felt was very dried out. Kids had split a plate of crab legs and they were water logged, but did taste good they said. The old place was much cozier, and the staff was very attentive. For what I paid for our meals, I would have preferred to order take out. Its a cute atmosphere with a small dining room to eat in and have couple chairs with tv to watch while I waited. I ordered 3 Connecticut lobster rolls and 1 order of the lobster tacos and my total was $133. The food was still hot when I got it home (10 min later) and the rolls were meaty lobster chunks and the order has 2 rolls with chips and salsa for $33. The menu is small and of course all meals include lobster. I am not sure if there are any gluten free options because the menu doesn't state so. A suggestion I would offer them is to include if GF substitutes could be made or accommodate someone who has dietary restrictions to avoid gluten. Where to start?? A group of family and friends decided to drive out to Jeanette to give this local establishment a try. We had heard so many great things (all true). We added shrimp on the frys but they were out of shrimp:(. Again the portions were far beyond what we expected. We all took at least half a tray home. I kept seeing there "pricey" in the reviews ! That would be true if the quality and quantity didn't equal the price. I don't believe that to be true. I'd pay this price for a meal not all the time but it's definitely worth every cent. Now for the negative none of which is enough of a reason to not venture out to give this gem a try. There's Minimal seating available. We were told that they are acquiring the space next-door to Accommodate more seating. They sell out of food. By ordering fresh they don't over order on the seafood to keep the quality top notch and I appreciate it. But it's not good for Business. I suggest calling your order in.
