Came by after a theater/museum visit recently. This place is located inside, towards the back of the Metreon Food Court. I just sampled their dim sum menu only and it was decent. Being in this food court next to the Moscone, I didn't have high hopes for the dumplings but I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the spicy pork and shrimp wontons and they were awesome! I wanted to cap my trip off to San Francisco with dumplings prior to my flight. I looked at the yelp reviews for places close my hotel and came upon this place. I highly recommend the pork and shrimp dumplings in chili oil. The wrappers kept their integrity and weren't too messy. The flavors were perfection! I also had the chicken and cabbage dumplings. Not as good, but really, chili oil just makes everything better. You can also sit outside by the Yerba Buena park while enjoying your meal. read more

Very surprised by the low Yelp ratings on this one! We tried this small dumpling and noodles place inside the Metreon Center in SOMA and were pleasantly impressed. We like to mix and match food from different counters because it's set up like a food court. We had the Crystal Shrimp dumplings and the Bbq Pork Buns. Honestly they were better than most places we've tried in the Bay area. The buns in particular were soft, hot, and flavorful - went really well with some spicy chili oil! The service was quick. I'll be back to try more next time we are in the area. read more

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but this was an unforgettable dine and not in a good way. We ordered in store through their online site two dishes and two Thai iced tea. The brisket dish while bathed in a tasty broth had very little actual meat and a whole lot of fat and tendon. What meat there was difficult to separate from the fat and gristle with only a flimsy plastic fork and spoon. No knives were available. The spicy miso ramen was just too spicy to eat very much of. We left most of the bowl due to choking hazard. Our bill for the 4 items was over $60. There was a $5 tip automatically added to the bill even tho there was no table service in mall style cafeteria seating. I would have no complaint about the ambiance, it was expected. With a 10% tip, this was a $25 meal that you could get for half the price with better ambiance on Clement, Balboa, or in Daly City. I am not familiar in ordering in the online counter but I did try. I waited a decent time for my order. I went to the counter and talk to the attendant, I asked if my beef brisket is ready. She ask me if what is my order ticket number something like that. I said I didn't remember. She is not very helpful, her face not very entertaining. I showed her my phone receipt rolling dumpling billed me online at that particular time. She keeps asking me what is the 4 digit number of the card I use to pay. And I showed her several times the bill on my phone with rolling dumpling on it. She is not still sure of it. It takes me awhile until she finally gave me my order. Which was left for a while on the counter. I didn't enjoy the food, the beef has many tendons and the taste is not on my liking. I did not even it not even 1/4 of it. When later my daughter when back to the counter and ask for to go box, again same lady. She is not very helpful. It takes her awhile before she gives the box. Tried out this Thai place inside the metreon, I got the pineapple chicken fried rice. It was ok but was expecting more. The food took a while to come out after ordering, and was in a takeout box which is fine but felt small. It would not be enough to split between 2 people without additional foods imo. The last time I was here they had mini hot pots and learned they no longer offered this menu item and I was a little saddened. I opted to try their other Thai food menu items. I ordered the pineapple fried rice, pad thai and the green curry with rice to bring home. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was really surprised at how tasty everything was. The green curry was amazing--the perfect amount of heat (I asked for medium), it was so flavorful and nice portions of chicken in the curry--I needed more rice to get every bit of the curry. The latest resident of a spot in the Metreon food court that seems to always host a Thai food occupant. The Tom Kha is awesome, like some of the best food court Thai food I've ever had. The other items seem hit-or-miss, so whatever you do, make sure you get the Tom Kha in your order. Tom Kha Meat Lover w/ Potato Noodles: Wow, this was really amazing for a meal from a food court. Even at proper table service Thai restaurants, the food isn't always as good. It was a broth with a strong coconut and lemongrass aroma having TONS of meat: thinly sliced beef (like gyudon) and chewy meatballs (like what you get in pho). Also, some tofu skin too which absorbed a lot of the delicious broth. Nice slippery potato noodles. Some veggies, but not overwhelming, since the focus should be the meat. I chose the Classic Thai Seafood Hot Sauce as my option and it worked excellently as a dipping sauce to the meat with a really strong tang. All the cabbage in the soup was actually a good palate cleaner. A really big portion, so had to eat this in two sittings. Yellow Curry Chicken Rice: This was a bit more mediocre, like what I'd expect from a food court. The potato chunks weren't that soft. Not raw exactly, but tough and had a weird crunch. The chicken was all soft dark meat chunks, that also could have used some more cooking time for a better texture. The veggies were kinda boring, with lots of bell pepper slices. Quite a letdown compared to the awesome Tom Kha. Guavaberries Kazka: Fun that a fresh drink to order is bottled in a can. Much better for walking the takeout home. Definitely a lot of strawberry pieces. The guava wasn't too strong though. Also, was hoping for a stronger Yakult taste, but felt a bit watered down, maybe too much seltzer? read more

Located inside the Metreon on the main level with the other food establishments, the Rolling Thai is a new restaurant that's a welcomed edition. It's located in the back right (South East) corner. Keep in mind that parking in the area can be difficult so plan accordingly. While I didn't actually try the food, I ordered their "Kazka" drinks - Guavaberries, Grape Mojito, Peachy Dragonfruit, and Mango Smoothie with Coconut Panna Cotta. The packaging was awesome and looked exactly like a soda with a see-through can. Most of the drinks are carbonated so it fits the theme. Because I ordered 4, I got a cool carrying case, too. As far as the taste goes, they were all pretty good. The coconut panna cotta in the mango smoothie wasn't my favorite but the peachy dragonfruit was tasty, bubbly, and refreshing. Overall, the drinks are pretty cool and definitely something a little bit different. read more

Highly disappointed with my experience. Decided to try it out because the pictures of the food looked amazing, however when I received my food it didn't look anything like the pictures. Food was very bland, and I would say it was overpriced as well. The Thai iced tea, was more milk than tea, it was barely even orange. The service wasn't the best, I asked for a to go bag and was charged 25 cents, and when I said I only have a card they said they have a minimum. I asked for extra fork along with chopsticks but she went and got the chospticks and gave me fork. didnt give receipt but i paid 16.83 for wonton noodles with 6 small wonton which didnt taste any. The meat is a sizeof your pinky fingernail. Broth is vietnamese beef flavor so everything is good. but for the price point and how the service is? for 16 bucks, i paid $10 for their rent and $6 for the food itself. all noodles, and for wonton? I can buy elsewhere. I pay $10.95 for a well done steak pho with same broth or even better and i get wonton for 16 :)))) too friendly for a 4 star. it is a 3 for me, a 4 for my mom. This is a rather large bowl that runs around $16 filled with chicken, cabbage, carrot tossed in a spicy salty and sour sauce, which overall worked pretty well together, but does not resemble the Thai classic. Went inside the metreon to get a drink from a different place and saw this Thai restaurant on the side and it looked good so I tried it out. My experience was good, the person taking my order was a very nice person and gave me good suggestions on what was good from their menu. I got the Pad Thai and it was really good. The portion was good but I would say the price may be a little high for it. Given where it's located, I would understand why it's more expensive though. There are plenty of seats to sit down and eat and it's a very clean environment connected to a nice grass area outside. If you're in the metreon and craving Thai food, I would check out Rolling Thai. Well...oddly enough I can't really say anything bad about Rolling Dumpling, I just can't say much good either. Hence the 3 star. Unfortunately for me it was in an indoor food court and I think they were trying to make the months rent payment off of my meal alone. Food: 4. The dumpling on their own tasted fresh and not what you might think you'd get in a food court restaurant. Nice job!! Ambiance: well there was none so I'll just leave this at 0. Price: yikes thank goodness I didn't bring my kids for lunch or I might have had to finance the meal. I spent $33.00 for maybe $20.00 worth of food. Service: it was counter service and she was very nice. Summary: it's San Francisco so great dumplings are everywhere. I learned that if you have the time ask around and get the locals to send you to the fabulous dim sum place. It's a cafeteria style setup but it wasn't in use, so i think they make the food after you order, but it didnt take long at all! Since I was at the Rolling Thai restaurant seeking out the KAZKA drinks I decided to give the food a try as well so on each of my visits I tried one item. On visit 1 I ordered the Yellow Curry Chicken with Rice. The curry chicken is premade, and it sits in a warmer until it is ordered. The rice and the curry were each packed in a separate container. I consumed these just a few feet away in the general Metreon dining section, and the first disappointment was that neither the rice nor the curry was piping hot food temperature-wise. Taste-wise however I thought the chicken curry was very good with large chunks of chicken thigh meat, some potato, onion and bell pepper of varying colors. Spice-wise the heat level was non-existent; it was quite mild. As another reviewer points out the price you pay and the portion you get is also a disappointment and I agree, but this being San Francisco I'd be lying if I told you that this is not often expected. We live and/or work in a high priced city! On visit 2 I decided to go with lighter fare. It was mid-afternoon and I had dinner plans so I didn't want to overstuff myself. I ordered from the Appetizers menu and selected the Fried Jumbo Shrimp. It comes with one dipping sauce that you get to choose during the ordering process. Additional dipping sauces can be had for an additional dollar each. It also comes with fresh lime wedges. For $11 you get 6 shrimp that are debatable whether they're actually "jumbo." Having purchased and cooked shrimp before I'd say these are probably large shrimp before the cooking process. Temperature-wise these were served hot so that was a positive, but I didn't like the batter for several reasons. The batter didn't adhere to the shrimp. It was not crispy either. To top those off I thought it was overly salted. I'm definitely not ordering this again. I'm sure I'll visit Rolling Thai again mainly because they're partnering with the KAZKA drink people, and I might be open to trying something else on the menu besides drinks, but honestly I might just stick to the drinks. read more
