With so many great reviews, I was really excited to try this place. I thought it was just ok. I ordered in advance and came to pick up. It took a minute for anyone to acknowledge me and the place had a really weird smell when I walked in. I order the classic spring rolls and a grilled pork bowl. The spring rolls were a little different, definitely not classic. They had slices of chicken and shrimp inside and came with diluted peanut sauce, which wasn't my favorite. The pork bowl was ok, the meat was a little overcooked. They give you a large portion with plenty of meat. I asked for 1/2 noodles and 1/2 organic salad. I received mostly noodles and a few pieces of lettuce. All in all the place isn't horrible, but definitely not a favorite of mine. read more

I absolutely love stopping here to and from our way up and back from Yosemite and Los Angeles. We always come here for the spring rolls, particularly the classic fresh rolls. It is light, simple and a healthy option for an on the road bite. Their Thai tea and passion fruit tea is delicious as well. We haven't gotten it with the boba before but it's flavorful. I've been to this restaurant many times before and I always enjoyed it . I have a new found love of Spring rolls, and the rolls here are big with a nice crunch in the middle . I tried the shrimp and pork rolls. The shrimp is the star in the roll, it's packed with flavor . The peanut dipping sauce is the chefs kiss. The sauce brings another level of amazing flavor . This is one of the better spot for phở in Bakersfield. I never knew this place existed until a few months ago, as the name doesn't exactly imply that they serve soup. However, after scouring the internet to find a good phở spot, this place showed up. The prices here are very good relative to other Vietnamese restaurants in Bakersfield, and I feel that the portion size for their large bowls is quite big and filling. The quality of the ingredients, such as the beef, and noodles, are far better than anything else in town. Although the service is quite barebones, they're very quick to get your food out to your table. It's a smaller restaurant, but has a very cozy feel, and are usually playing music from the TV. I went to an establishment across town for superior spring rolls. When I went home I realized they had forgotten my peanut sauce. This was a simple, forgivable mistake, yet I was not driving back for a single sauce. I decided to go to Rolls and Grill as it's location was more convenient to mine. I immediately understood why I did not purchase my entire meal from Rolls and Grill in the first place when I called to be sure they had peanut sauce and their passionfruit tea and was met with a tude' saying "Yeah. We always do." Woah, ok. I only ask because I know your Brimhall location often lied about being open when they clearly were not. How am I to know that you can deliver on a simple peanut sauce when my trust has been broken in the past? I kindly call to ask and see. I drive to the location, go inside and ask the man at the register for a passionfruit tea and two peanut sauces. This fella replies with "We cannot give you peanut sauces by themselves. You would have to buy spring rolls to get them." Me, being the gentleman that I am, and understanding that this place is empty for a reason replied with "Okay, that's fine." Then, the peanut patrol says, "Actually since no one is here, I'll give them to you. Just know you have to buy spring rolls next time." I am willing to pay $.50-2 for these things at this point. Terrible service , I ordered the wrong sandwich and minutes after I placed my order I asked them to change it to from a cold cut sandwich to a grilled pork and the Asian lady in the back would not. The guy at the counter had said ok however the lady came out and said she could not because she had already made it. I asked again and said I asked to change the order 5 minutes ago and you had enough time to change it but she refused . I'm very sad and disappointed. I loved this place. My number one to go to. Today I had lunch here with a friend. While sitting at the table eating my spring rolls, i was facing the kitchen. When I saw it.the guy taking the orders; touching the registers, the containers, bags, phone and clearing tables grab a spring roll out of the wrapped order, with his bare hands and hand it to the lady in blue goves making the spring rolls. She grabbed it and placed it on the next order. Shortly after that, he walked to the table and handed the 3 roll plate to a customer. After that, he went back, grabbed a small bag, opened it with his bare hands, grabbed a hand full of beansprouts, and lemons put them in a bag for a togo order. He then grabbed beensprouts from a plate to transfer them to a smaller plate. He would go back to cleaning tables and clearing it. All he did was place his hands in the container with the sanitizer for the tables, then continued to serve. I witnessed one of the cooks vapping without gloves in the prep area and, with his bare hands, he grabbed frozen chicken from a bag and placed it in the oven twice. The lady with the blue gloves was touching the computer the food with the walls with the same gloves. I was so discusted. I couldn't eat the rest of my food and left. I thought the guy vamping saw that I was staring at him, and he continued to use his bare hands to cover cough and touch food. The lady with the blue gloves was touching objects like containers, bags, computer walls, and then making the springrolls. I did not see any hand washing or changing of gloves. This is why I decided to write this review. Like I had said, I loved this place I would order take out or eat in at least 1x a week. I came here for the first time based on a coworkers recommendation. I had to come back a second time because I was craving the spring rolls on a hot day. For both of my visits I ordered takeout. During my first visit I ordered at the restaurant and the second time I ordered ahead for pick up. If you're going to take it to-go, ordering ahead is the way to go. I ordered through the yelp app and was able to schedule the food to be ready by the time I got off of work. They have a spacious dining area with many seating options but sadly I didn't have anyone to join me. So far I've tried the Bahn Mi sandwich, chicken spring rolls, beef spring rolls, crispy rolls, and the noodle beef bowl, and the Vietnamese coffee. Everything I've had has been tasty and generously portioned. You can make a few meals out of these dishes. The chicken spring rolls have been my favorite. The chicken is tender and flavorful. The dipping sauce a combo peanut chili sauce. I liked that it wasn't too thick like some peanut sauces can be. These also hold up well when transporting home. One thing that I would advise again is ordering the crispy rolls to go. By the time I got home they were a bit soggy and the lettuce wraps had wilted so those should be eaten at the restaurant. They were still really delicious and had a great vinegary dipping sauce. I'll definitely be back for more spring rolls. Rating - 4 Stars Was looking for something light and easy to eat while in Bakersfield and the spring rolls hit the spot! All the meats were tender and I love that you can taste the chargrilled flavor in their grilled meats. Inside includes vermicelli, lettuce, cucumber, and rolled fried egg roll wrappers. I was surprised there weren't any fresh herbs and I do wish there was more/a bigger piece of the egg roll wrapper, but the rolls were still good enough and had enough crunchiness as well. Also as a heads up since it's not shown on their menu, the provided peanut hoisin dipping sauce does have sriracha/hot sauce added on top. It's still pretty mild, but don't forget to ask to omit it if you were looking for a non-spicy meal like I was. And as another heads up since their menu isn't specific about this and I missed it on first glance, but I think it's worth noting that they do carry banh cuon (steamed rolls) and nem nuong (grilled sausage) if anyone else prefers more of those traditional specialties like me! I have always been a customer at their first location for years and after I found out that they opened up a new location on Calloway and Hageman I was excited considering I live nearby. When I got their I was greeted with super nice and courteous waiters. Everything from the ambient atmosphere to the savory and authentic taste of the food was amazing. This place now sits where my once favorite sandwich shop in town (Brinks Delicatessen) once was. Although initially disappointed about the replacement, I was persuaded to try their Banh Mi sandwich. I opted for the pork Banh Mi. Wow. My tastebuds were getting punched left and right with delicious flavors in every bite. I was in love. The meat was grilled just right on the barbecue. And the bread was delectably soft and lightly crispy on the outside. And to wash it down with Thai tea, was the icing on the cake.
