I've been sooo looking forward to trying this place ever since my fabulous lovely Yelpy friends Bette and Charisse told me how much they LOVED it here! You would think, given all of their praise and all the wonderful reviews, like the one by Patrick and Maria, that I would be let down by all the hype - but noooo, not so! Of course, I couldn't decide what to get, so as my custom, I ordered a lot, rationalizing I can take the left overs home ... I also rationalized that I have been going out to eat a lot less than previously, and also that I was having a very, very bad day and deserved to treat myself. After I finished placing my order, the nice young woman at the counter asked with alarm - "Are there other people coming?" I told her "no," and she informed me I had ordered a lot of food. She again reminded me how much food I had ordered as she placed the food on my table. I had ordered perfectly. I got the salt and pepper fish special, which was slightly spicy, crisp.... just wonderful. It was served with rice, a small salad. On top of the lightly fried fish was sauteed green onion, jalapeño and garlic. Amazing. I will definitely order it again. I also got a bowl - a small bowl by the way- of the spicy beef pho. That also was very good, a dish I typically order when I go for Vietnamese food. I will order this dish again too. I always order spring rolls at a restaurant if they are available. My Vietnamese best friend told me that I love spring rolls more than anyone she knows. Here, my favorite dish is their classic spring rolls. Would you like 4 or 3? Four, definitely four! The classic rolls have shrimp, pork, and inside a bit of fried/ crispy noodle. That tiny bit of crunch is a wonderful touch. I'm about to pack up the food I couldn't eat. Great food got a variety of dishes and they were all great. Only moments after sitting down we were served I was amazed by how quickly they brought out all the plates. The drinks are very flavorful and only $4 which is almost too cheap. I got a coffee and passion fruit juice. It is not that fake powder mix they usually serve at places like boba time. The juice tased very fresh and real and the coffee had a strong flavor not watered down at all. Even though it looked like there was only one person available to take order, serve food, and clean up they were doing a great job trying to juggle all those positions so props to this person! read more

Rude manager and bad service. We ordered lemongrass beef and the grilled pork bowl. The lemongrass beef had an excessive amount of chili that I had to remove from the dish but it was excessively spicy. I checked the menu, which did not indicate the dish is spicy or hot. When I told the manager the dish is too spicy and the menu did not indicate this, he said he would have to charge me again to make a new bowl. He also told me to ask whether the dish is spicy before I order. I said "wouldn't you share that information with a customer, especially when the menu doesn't indicate this", and he said "no the customer has to ask". I have had lemongrass beef at many places in California, I'm even married to a Vietnamese and this dish is not typically that spicy. The manager, a man, was very rude and said it's his policy to charge for another bowl and he cannot replace the dish. It wasn't until I asked who is the owner that he offered to replace the bowl. He gave me back a replacement dish that did not have fish sauce or utensils or lemongrass. This place is terrible. Would not recommend anyone go here. He also took my old spicy bowl back and I have no idea what he would do with that. Worst experience ever! I also wish I did not leave a tip as it definitely was not deserved. read more

Ordered a "Vegetarian Rice Bowl" and it came out with vermicelli. Asked the server about my dish and she said it doesn't come with rice and they charge extra for rice Menu said I could choose rice or vermicelli as a base though. I tried ordering my vegetarian rice on the yelp and there was no extra charge. I told the server about it how yelp let me order online and she reluctantly took my dish back to switch out the vermicelli to rice. Seems like she didn't want to take my bowl back in the first place. She did apologize. The place was pretty busy and she was running around bussing all the tables by herself. Communal water dispenser water had black residue/particles in it when I poured it into my cup. I liked my vegetarian rice bowl though. Tasted like home! My friends ordered pho, rice dishes, spring rolls, and banh mi, which they said were all mid to good. They all were still hungry afterward though. read more

We were driving through Bakersfield on our way home to LA, where we think we eat great spring rolls. Then we ordered the barbecue pork spring rolls here and were blown away. Pork was perfectly spiced and had a nice char. And something we haven't encountered before, a nice crispy crunch in the middle of it took it to the next level -- maybe a wonton-type strip? The food tastes fine but no one in the kitchen was wearing gloves, everyone was touching all the food with their bare hands. I asked about it and they basically said "our hands are clean, trust us". On 4-1-24 I walked in to this Restaurant and I began to place my order for the Poka. I wanted 4 different fish for my Poka. The woman at the front told me all she had was Salmon and Imitation Crab. I wanted 4 Scoops so I ordered 2 Scoops of Salmon and 2 Scoops of Imitation Crab. Upon getting My Order I noticed I have little of the Salmon and Imitation Crab. My in-law & I went shopping and came across this restaurant. We both love poke so we thought we'd give this place a try. We both got a poke bowl. I got white rice, one scoop of salmon, a scoop of ahi, spicy poke sauce, and all the toppings. She got half & half, two scoops of ahi, spicy poke sauce, and all the toppings. We were impressed. The only thing is, we wish the rice wasn't hot, but other than that super amazing flavor. The ginger wasn't overpowering. And just great freshness in the fish. I can't wait to try this place again. This has by far the best poke bowls ever, no lie I always order the poke bowl with 2 scoops tuna or salmon or both whichever I'm in the mood for, with all white rice spicy Mayo and all toppings except seaweed or ginger I'm not a fan of that. I've been a regular for over two years now and I've been going weekly ever since. I've tried other poke places but nope, the ingredients they use here are one of kind, you can definitely taste the difference. I recommend you try their spring rolls. My favorite is the pork one which has a nice refreshing feel with very flavorful pork. I've also had the bahn mi from here and have to say it's the closest to authentic that I've had in town. This restaurant is kinda away from home so it took us quite a while to come in and try it and I can almost kick myself for waiting so long! Everything has been delicious!! You cannot go wrong with the grilled pork Bahn Mi sandwiches!!! Hubby and I always get at least one each because they're so good! The meat is tender and the veggies are always fresh. The bun is also toasted to perfection! I think this is a MUST TRY!!! The grilled pork spring rolls were also a hit with us! They have a crunchy ingredient in the middle and I think it makes all the difference! It's fun texturally and absolutely scrumptious! There's many more items on their menu but you get the idea. Delicious food that anyone can enjoy! The location is small and can probably benefit from some organization (their storage is in plain sight) but the food is so dang good, I don't even care lol. First impressions when looking at the menu....this place is quite expensive!!!! Ordered two combination pho and it was just ok. Not great. Not terrible. The ratio of pho noodles to meat in the bowl was 80% noodles and 20% meat....should give more meat if charging these kind of prices tbh! Also the veggie plate that comes out w the pho is very disappointing...barely any herbs?! And when I asked for more basil...they literally gave me a few more stems....why so stingy?!? I do not write this review lightly. This has been one of our go to restaurants for years. The past few times we have been in we have observed very disturbing practices. Tonight was the last straw for me. 1. I watched the young man that was taking orders handle money then touch food. 2.He then bussed tables and came back and handled food. 3.His hands were in and out of the water tub that the basil is kept in and then the basil was put in a bag for someone's Pho. He never washed his his hands once while we were there. 4.He then got an order wrong. He gave the customer the wrong spring rolls. She left the restaurant then came back and complained. He gave her the right spring rolls but then repackaged the spring rolls she brought back and gave them to another customer. 5. I asked to speak to a manager but was told the manager is on vacation and won't be back until next week. I understand sometimes business can be under staffed. But there still has to be basic sanitation. You can't serve used food. This was NOT an isolated incident. Last time we were in I watched the employee bus and wipe down tables then touch food for an order without washing their hands. Someone is eventually going to get sick from this lack of sanitation. Like I stated I really didn't want to write this review I have loved this place. But I won't be back. read more
