I regret buying their bubble tea. Do yourself a favor and don't buy their bubble tea, it's not worth it. It just tastes like sweetened ice. I went in there around 5PM couple of weeks ago and they didn't have any customers. I immediately ordered two bubble teas- one green tea and one taro. The older lady took my order and had me seated by the kitchen door. From that seat, I could see the staff was obviously confused by my order and kept asking the older lady for guidance on how to make it. It was obvious that he had no idea what he was doing as soon as I had my first sip of the bubble tea. It just tasted like some corn syrup mixed with ice and some hard tapioca thrown in. I think a staff training on how to make bubble tea properly would benefit this place. Until then, definitely take your money elsewhere, like the owner of the place would tell you to. read more

We're very appreciative that they took the time to respond and we look forward to continue to support them. ** My complaint is not about the food but about the service. Twice in the last two months (one a month or two ago, and today, March 6, at about 750 pm), we've decided to place our order via phone instead of doing an online order. Both times, we were told that we would be put on hold. Both times, we waited at least 5 minutes, and the person never came back on the phone to take our order. Not even to check in that it would be a few more minutes. We weren't even "on hold" either - the person simply put the phone down and we could hear everything going on in the restaurant. It was pretty clear we were forgotten about. We enjoy going to to Rolls N Bowls in person, but whomever is answering the phones needs to know that this is a problem. This little place is AWESOME!!! The fish is very fresh and the portion sizes are huge. The terryaki is really good both chicken and beef. Lunch, Dinner, Brunch, you have to try this place. The owners and staff are both knowledgable and very friendly. The prices are very reasonable. I love sushi, (I'm a sushi junkie and am proud of it), I will be eating here several times a week. The situation is pretty good here. I am a big fan of places where I can eat sushi and Korean food (specifically bulgogi) in the same sitting. It's convenient, and frankly very meaty. Don't judge, I need lots of food. The food is pretty inexpensive and I think is pretty consistent with the quality of food. Last time here I got the bulgogi bowl, which was only $7. It wasn't spectacular (I think the bowl at Crisp is better), but it did hit the spot. I added the Japanese Lasagna roll for $5, so you get a nice meal for pretty cheap. FYI, the menu says their is scallop in the roll, but there really isn't. Let's update the menu, yesokthanks. The space is very tiny with little room to boogie; I counted four tables in the entire place. Because of that, the owner told me that regulars make up most of the dine-in crowd. The rest are delivery or pick-up. Don't be afraid to stay and eat! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They gave us complimentary mochi ice cream (which is delicious, btw) for their 3 month anniversary. Nice guys! Due to its proximity to my relatives (as well as Club Latin Bliss), this place is soon turning into a regular spot. read more

This is the vibe I get from the resturant: the people in the kitchen are very creepy making you uncomfortable. Expecially if you're a girl. The owners seem very intimidating. However, the waiters are nice and they are super friendly! The sushi they serve here are pretty good, and the pricing is alright. They're normal sushi price. Their other courses seem cheap. Literally the ramen looks like it came out of a $1 packet. Then add some egg and vegetables and boom, is $6. Very overrated and not worth it. I like Rolls 'N Bowls for so many reasons. First off, their service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. Edamame with no salt? No prob! Easy rice? Sure!! The sushi was very very fresh, I had the tekka roll, so the freshness was very noticeable. They actually did an excellent job on the easy rice... unlike other places... The Mexican roll was spicy and delicious, and they give you a lime with this roll (at other places, I usually have to ask for one). The tataki tuna is also one of my favorites! The other awesome part is that they are open LATE! I don't seem to eat meals at traditional times, so this is a big plus! The seating is limited, but we were there late, so we weren't really bothered by it. This is one of my new favorite sushi spots! read more

May come from a small tiny place, but its full heart and most likely will surprise you ... especially if you're an American. Now as far as sushi goes, I don't eat my sushi with fancy mayos and cucumbers and things fried or unagi'd. For me its straight Nigiri. Why? partly because I have a stomach that hates and is my evil nemesis me and also because I can truly judge how fresh the fish is and how clean it tastes when its just the fish and rice. And let me tell you, The spread I got was incredible!! This little place can really stand up to some of the pricier joints in the lincoln square and neighboring areas! This place is great! We are sushi snobs and usually pay a lot to get sushi from high end places. Looks like that might change now that we've had Rolls 'N Bowls! Ordered Rolls N Bowls for delivery on a weekend night. They have their menu online which makes it very easy to figure out what to order. More so, their rolls are well priced. It was delivered in less than 45 minutes. There was a slight hiccup with us paying for the wrong order, but after a phone call to RNB, it was quickly fixed. Two of us ordered edamame and 4 rolls (2 regular & 2 specialty) which was plenty of food for us. The rolls are well sized and seem super fresh. The bill was just over $30 with delivery. I ordered delivery from RollsN'Bowls earlier this week. The delivery was prompt, but we were not thrilled with the food. The sushi did not seem to be overly fresh and the rice was kind of dry. Mom had the teriyaki chicken salad. It was generous in portion and well packed, but rather dry and skimpy on the sauce. The cucumber salad had what seemed to be a soy based dressing, not sweet and vinegary like others we have had. it wasn't bad, but I would not order it again. When the delivery arrived, they forgot to send the drinks along. I called and they came back with the bag. When I got it inside, it was missing the smoothie. I should have checked when the guy showed up, but I was rushing back in to watch the hockey game. At that point I gave up. I am sure that there are rough edges to this new business and it will improve over time. I will give them another shot in a few months and see how things are going because they are so close to the house. I would love to add it into my fave list. read more

Gross! The sushi was not at all fresh - chunks of my mango bliss roll were partially frozen, and the rolls were mostly rice. The miso soup was too salty. After a string of less than satisfying experiences at our usual Lincoln Square sushi spots, I was pretty much ready to give up. Then, Rolls N' Bowls opened just around the corner from my house and I decided to give it a try. It may be small and inexpensive, but Rolls N' Bowls offers some of the freshest sushi I've been able to get in the neighborhood. The Sunshine Roll, in particular, blew our minds. It was incredibly fresh, clean and delicious, and came topped with triangles of juicy, perfectly ripe oranges. The simple tuna and avocado roll, which was coated in red tobiko, was also exceptional. I have to say that Rolls N' Bowls blew away all of our expectations by being leaps and bounds better than the pricier Lincoln Square sushi joints. I'm really disappointed that the restaurant opened now, as we're leaving Chicago at the end of the month. But I can guarantee that we'll hit up Rolls N' Bowls for quality sushi at least once a week until we leave! read more

I had a pretty ok experience here. Came here mainly in search of some good ramen. I read somewhere in one review that the sizes were about 32 ounces, this is way exaggerated. Even the waitress said the portions were small. Noodle quality wasn't anything special, reminded me of instant stuff. The one thing that was good was the broth both in the spicy and non spicy versions. Probably more of an appetizer than a meal. Ordered some sushi as well, got the Seoul Dragon and Tokyo roll, was quality stuff. 4 bowls of ramen and 2 rolls after tax and tip was about $50? I've been wanting to try this place for the longest, finally had the chance last night and im impressed. When I first walked in, I was like wow this place is small, but oh well. Sat down right away and ordered. I ordered 5 pieces of super white tuna, a philly roll and a godzilla roll. The philly roll was alright, wasnt anything really out of the ordinary. The god zilla was good, fresh and many pieces. But my favorite was the super white tuna, it was so fresh, so fresh that it just melts in your mouth. I wanted more!! So after I finished everything, I ordered 3 more pieces. Prices are very good too for the quality you get here. Almost everything is under $10.00. The bill came out to be around $50 for 2 people, my friend had 2 other rolls. Thats alot of sushi for the price. Oh and I love that they open til midnight. Also they are expanding in march. Between prices going up and rolls getting smaller, getting sushi delivered has been a pretty frustrating endeavor of late. Enter Rolls N' Bowls. I find their menu on the ground while walking to the grocery store, snake it, and read it over. Interesting menu, and fairly cheap. Then, today, the fiancee and I got lazy and decided sushi needed to come to us, so the time was right - we Yelp-stalked Rolls N' Bowls and made an order of five rolls, which came in under $40 with tip included. Later, we were to learn that there was a mistake in which our Emergency roll was replaced with a Philly roll, but we were hard-pressed to be upset given that their Philly roll is BIG and delicious, and costs a lot less than the Emergency. Other highlights were the Turtle (spicy!) and, my favorite there so far, the R&B roll. I'm recommending this place, and praying to everything that listens that their rolls and prices remain EXACTLY as they are in the future so this place can be my go-to sushi delivery spot! read more

Things I love about neighborhood joints... 1. Location - for R-n-B that's kind of a gimme since they're so close to my hood 2. Service - they make you feel like you've been eating there for years 3. Value - prices are actually something you could afford on a daily basis That being said, R-n-B is a great neighborhood joint and then some. Just like the name implies, they serve sushi "rolls" and nigiri. So far I've tried the Crunch, E.T., and Spider maki and haven't been disappointed. Their nigiri selection is also fresh and generously cut, which makes the fact that no one piece costs more than $2 pretty awesome. As for part two of the name, they also serve "bowls", such as a tasty $5.95 beef teriyaki bowl and several other Japanese and Korean options. The menu is actually quite extensive for such a small place (probably seats no more than 20 people), and I look forward to trying more of it. Service, either dining in or on the phone for carryout, is very friendly. On one occasion the owner kindly asked if there was anything wrong with my fiancee's Kalbi plate as she had a decent amount left. We explained that she had a late lunch and just wasn't as hungry as usual. In actuality my fiancée thoroughly enjoyed her Kalbi, but it was still refreshing to see an owner who really cares about their patron's dining experience. They have done so much with such a tiny place! It's small but cozy, with about 4 or 5 tables that are far enough apart so that you aren't part of somebody else's conversation. The sushi is competitively priced, maybe even slightly cheaper than other places in the area - but they don't compromise on quality. The hamachi (yellowtail) was fresh and thick! Much thicker than you'll see at many Japanese places in the city. The vegetarian rolls are simple and I enjoyed the green bean tempura roll - something that most places don't offer. Try the RNB roll, you won't be disappointed. the menu is pretty extensive - offers some hot items that we didn't try. We live close by so we'll definitely be back! read more

Love love love this place for a late night delivery! The delivery guy is always super courteous, the food arrives quickly, tastes great and the prices are very reasonable. I placed a last minute, late night, large order for an impromptu party at our apartment on a Saturday night, probably around 15 rolls. The order arrived within 30 minutes of my call, it was presented so nicely on a platter and tasted amazing and fresh! I have never had take out sushi that tastes so good. We also have several sushi places in our neighborhood within a few blocks (overpriced 'fancy' places) but I'd still rather get a take out from Rolls n Bowls. Sushi never tasted so good at such cheap price points! & the most shocking thing about this place is that for the bang for the buck, there are more pieces of sushi than other snooty/haughty establishments. The main waiter, Phil is super nice and accommodating, more than happy to help you choose a roll or a bowl, refill your water, and have fun small talk with. The atmosphere is like an old-school fusion American/Japanese diner with 4-5 tables, and 2 (sushi/cook) chefs in back. Its very minimal, not too flashy, but the service is beyond 5 stars. Now to the food. I definitely recommend the Tuna or Salmon tataki!! the tuna/salmon is seared!!!!!! then placed on a sushi roll with other mind-blowing ingredients that'll make you nod your head and have your knees shake in excitement and wonderment. All the other classic rolls like the Miami, Spider, and Spicy Tuna are legit, so I'd advise to try them all! A few bowls I've had there are the Bulgogi (juicy, mouth-watering) and Steak/beef teriyaki (not too overpowering and very palatable). I'd also go with a side of kim chee for those who like it spicy! Its always more fun with a date or friend, so I'm lucky enough to have my gf come with me on these adventures to finding fantastic food and finding new friends along the way. Hello, delicious sushi! So delicious, good portion, and good price. Plus, it's closer to the suburbs so that's better for me. The place is a bit small and understaff so you may have to wait a bit or deal with a stressed waitress, but they are all nice. I think I may be too sympathetic.. I ordered the ramen because yelpers were raving about it..but it was nothing special, in my opinion. It was like the ramen I would have made at home but my ramen would have been better. Sorry for being cocky. But yes, ramen is damn cheap at grocery stores and it tastes the same as from Rolls and Bowls, so I would say don't waste your money on it unless you're too lazy to make your own. Also my noodles weren't cooked enough, but I let it go since they were busy...although that shouldn't be an excuse. Still good sushi and nice staff. read more

I guess Im giving it 2 stars because usually at Bryn Mawr and Lincoln the food is delicious. So since they have the same name... But today, we are still feeling sick. The food was cold and just didn't really taste good at all. Not sure what happened here. Maybe "express" just isn't a good idea. Oh yeah, not to mention, we received used chopsticks. Back in Chicago and needed a Monday fix of sushi for a reasonable price... I haven't had good sushi for a long time so might be stretching it a bit to say that this was amazing... either way it was really good with very nice staff/owner who included free green tea ice cream. Was surprised with the Mexican Roll which comes with a slice of lime... packed with flavors that all hit your taste buds separately. Not a huge fan of the Japanese Lasagna roll but not a huge fan of mayo to start with. Nigiri was fresh and decently sized proportion rice-fish. All together this has been the best meal since returning to Chicago (don't tell that to my mother-in-law) hope to come back in the next few weeks before we leave. read more

My boyfriend, brother, brother's girlfriend and I go there so frequently that they know us and everytime we step in we're greeted with a warm welcome and even hugs! It was amazing! WHAAAAAT? $54 for 2 people for enough sushi to stuff ourselves with? Impossible! But it was great! The fish was tender and very fresh tasting. Both the maki rolls and nigiri pieces were delicious. They had some spicy rolls that some purist scoff at but they are so good! You can taste the fresh fish as well as the heat. They also have the biggest and tastiest Futo maki roll ever! It is a small place, about 5 tables and we waited a bit for our food. But hey, if we wanted food in 2 minutes we would have went to McD's These rolls were worth the wait! The rolls are not super long but are filled with lots of tasty ingredients. Their fried tofu appetizer is really good as well, fluffy, crispy in a tasty sauce around it. I found the place by typing in "cheap sushi" into google.... and wow!!! Very good neighborhood sushi place. Prices are fair. Menu variety is good. Service is nothing to complain about, and never had an issue getting a seat. I would say the quality is slightly higher than the Sushi Tokoro (the all you can eat place up the street) but the price points are also slightly higher (using my unscientific lens of comparing an a la carte menu to an all you can eat place). My only imaginable complaint is the size of the place-- they're seating maybe 16 people in there, certainly no more. Not a good place to dine in with a big group, but that's why God invented take-out. First you sit down with the two menus (sushi's in one menu, everything else in the other). Then you need to order a bubble tea shake. No. You NEED to order a bubble tea shake, they are delightful. This is the only place I regularly eat where I feel totally justified in getting one with every meal, they're just too good. Despite the somewhat cheesy (yet witty) name, this tiny, cozy restaurant offers a great variety of delicious food at super affordable prices. They have ROLLS - from your basic spicy super fresh salmon roll (~$4) to some of their more complex house specialties like the Dragon Roll (shrimp tempura, tuna, avocado, mayo for less than $9)...... ....n' BOWLS - korean bimbimbop bowls with sliced beef and lots of veggies (~$7) or hot, spicy ramen noodles with egg and green onion for around $5 - my absolute favorite for a cold winter night. Definitely a good mix of korean and japanese and they do it right. My boyfriend and I can usually order 5-6 dishes for around $30 including tip and tax. CHEAP. AND they give you free miso soup! Some people complain about how small the place is - they really only have about five tables with seating for about 15-20 people but I like the coziness of the restaurant and how much more convenient it is to just turn around and ask for something instead of trying to flag down the waitress. Another plus is that they are open until midnight every night (not just the weekends). My 7 year daughter and I dined. The maki rolls were good wish they were rolled in fish eggs but still tasty. The beef in the beef bowl was good but the veggies had no flavor was a bit water-logged. My wife got a bubble drink, mango. It was amazing. Service was fabulous. Check. What more can you ask for for a Lincoln Square location kind of in the middle of nowhere. I went here with my friend one night. I was surprised to how small it was, but dont get fooled with the size. The people there are very nice and sweet. The only reason why I am giving this place a very high rating is because: 1. Its super close to my house. 2. Its a cute cozy place with very fast service (so if your hungry and need food quick...go here) 3. The bubble Tea here is soooooo yummy! 4. The prices are affordable. I went to many different places for bubble tea and they all tasted good, but when I tried thier bubble tea it was a special moment where I just connected with the bubble tea through my soul. I could see the light shinning down upon the glass. I had the taro and it was just perfect. I didnt try the other flavors but so far Taro is yummy! You can choose coconut or regular tapioca which is pretty cool. The sushi was pretty good. I had a 6 california rolls for 3.50 which isnt too bad at all. I ate the ramen and i wasnt too thrilled with it since it tasted like something i cooked in my own house before.
