So good! Oh I miss the old style italian market delis I wish this was closer to my home. Everything looked so good. I picked up a pre-made sandwich by the register. Soooo good. The meats were sliced so thin and so full of flavor. The bread was perfect. I could not stop noshing even tho I was not hungry. You can also get a custom sandwich is you like. They were prepping a bunch of veggie sandwiches also. Great service. A nice parking lot outside. Next time im in the area, I'm stopping in!

My wife and I love to enjoy a good submarine or grinder sandwich from Subways,Jersey Mike's, and other sub competitors, but we like a freshly made sub that uses fresh ingredients including quality deli meats from the U.S. or from Italy. We enjoy mom's and pop's markets, especially Italian markets they traditional making the best sandwiches through years. We went to Roma Market in north Pasadena to get these great sandwiches that I heard they are mouth-watering delicious sandwiches. We step into Roma, and we can smell the aroma of an Italian market and walk around the small Italian market they have a selection of Italian products like pasta, meats, and other items. They have sub already made and wrapped in pink butcher paper or sandwich paper on the corner. I forgot to ask what the prices of each sandwich are. We brought two sub and European cookies assortments and two drinks and took it home. Go home, then unwrapped the sandwich from the pink wrapper. One bite, wow, great flavors in the sandwich like the meats in the sandwich, but I can't remember the name of the meat in the sandwich. It also has mozzarella cheese and olive oil, but the bread was probably the main place in the sandwich. It is soft in the middle and crunchy when taking the bite. The cookie we're amazing good I really enjoy it. Overall, this makes haveb history has been serving Pasadena for many years we would come back again.

Nice to see the patriarch outside enjoying the sun while I grab my sandwich (or two). Enjoying my sandwich while getting my car washed nearby. The consistency here is amazing. Love that I always get exactly what I expect and crave. Simple. Perfect. Still just $7!

Have been hearing about "the sandwich" for years ... finally made it here! So easy to get to. Not far off the freeway and easy parking in their lot. Don't be a dodo like me and stand at the deli counter, waiting to order a sandwich. They are already made and sitting in a crate with the cashier. Added a gorgeous loaf of bread and some other goodies. Prices seem unusually reasonable. The sandwich is unique. Crispy outside, soft inside bread with great chew factor. Inside is some simple EVOO, 3 italian meats and 1 cheese. That's it. I was a little surprised at first but then I took a bite. And then another. And then ... it was gone. And I was covered in crumbs! Delicious and highly addictive. I'm wondering now when I can go back??? Love to support a neighborhood business with genuinely nice people running it. Feels like an authentic Italian deli back in time. Will be back. SOON.

This was such a cool spot to stop for sandwiches and there is an endless amount of italian products. The owner was there restocking some of the cookies. This was first time and I didn't realize the sandwiches the italian combo is already made and available at the register. For veggie, it is at the deli counter. I got dirty chips and a root beer as well as a sandwich. I am all about a simple sandwich because the meats make it or break it. It was a perfect lunch that didn't leave me overstuffed. I definitely want to come back again. The ambiance is relaxed and there are plenty of options if you want pasta too. I definitely want to bring my mom. I am sure she would be content with the options too.

What We Ordered: The Sandwich "The Sandwich" is well-known in LA for being a simple sandwich. It consists of an Italian sub roll, provolone, salami, and olive oil. I loved seeing the owner still working; it was inspiring to see him continue despite his health. I have a lot of respect for him! "The Sandwich" was okay, but it needed more flavor. I prefer an Italian sandwich with hot pepper relish or some spice. The meat and cheese were okay on their own, but not great. The bread didn't seem very fresh and was too hard for my liking. I wouldn't rush to come back, but it is an affordable lunch option for a day at Kidspace. Roma Market is about a 9-minute drive from Kidspace. We stopped here to pick up sandwiches for our day there.

tl;dr pay this old-school market a visit to stock Italian groceries, and be sure to save your appetite for the signature sandwich -- it lives up to the hype From the outside, Roma Market may not look like much. It shares a north Pasadena strip mall with an Italian restaurant and a seafood market. However, a simple step inside is all it takes to understand why Roma Market has remained a premium purveyor of Italian foodstuffs for more than 70 years. The space simply feels old-school. To the left, produce, dry goods, and refrigerated proteins are arranged with a combination of pragmatism and whimsy. On the right sits the checkout station, and countless shelves of jarred Italian delicacies. Longtime owner Rosario Mazzeo remains a fixture at Roma, posted up in a folding lawn chair between the industrial freezers and beverage refrigerator. While the grocery selection is reason enough to pay Roma a visit (the enormous jar of frozen meat sauce and the plastic bag with countless ravioli are my 2 go-to's), foodies across Los Angeles best know Roma for its signature, intentionally unnamed Italian sandwich. These always-in-vogue hoagies are wrapped in donut box-pink parchment paper and stacked atop the deli counter in the far right corner. Mazzeo first crafted the sandwich in 1959 upon a customer's request. No custom orders are entertained, nor should they be: it's already a masterclass in simplicity. The list of ingredients is short and sweet: thick slices of premium capicola, mortadella, salami, and provolone combine into a balanced flavor of sheer Italian charcuterie. The crisp Italian roll is cut lengthwise and brushed carefully with olive oil. The sandwich is the ideal size for a light meal amid errands. And, clocking in at just $6, it's a refreshing change of pace from the eyebrow-rasing prices throughout the rest of LA. It's no exaggeration to say that Roma's sandwich lives up to the hype.

Ask the Community - Roma Market

    Do you take EBT?

    They don't

What time do they open on Sundays?

    They open @8:30am

Do they deliver sandwiches outside of Pasadena?

    No.

If I need to buy 10 sandwiches, should I call ahead to order, or will they have that many ready? My pick up time will be around 2pm.

It's first come first serve. They only make so many in a day so even if you call ahead they won't hold.

If I'm getting 2 Sandwiches at like 6pm Saturday, should I call and order ahead? Or is walking in just fine? I don't want to wait in a long line.

It is better to order ahead.

Are the sandwiches available when they open in the morning?

If not right at 9AM shortly after, I have gotten mine around 9:30 on Saturdays

Does the market sell fresh sausages?

They do! Hot and Sweet/Mild(with fennel!). They are very traditional tasting.

    Do they allow dogs?

Service Dogs are allowed in food stores; just pets, Sorry, No.

What is "the sandwich" made of? Can you order other sandwiches or do they only have the one style? I couldn't find a menu so would appreciate any advice :)

The sandwich is a couple slices each of capicola, mortadella, salami and provolone, and its just the one sandwich. I highly reccomend.

Have a day trip leaving before the store open. Is the sandwich good the next day?

I've eaten the sandwich a day after and heated it with a microwave. You may want to add some nice olive oil to make it softer.

Are they open now? What hours?

See the latest listing near top right of page, 9AM to 6PM, 7 Days a week.

What day is the loaf of bread made for purchasing?

I agree with the former response. It's definitely fresh daily as there is only a limited number of sandwiches prepared daily. Once they are sold out that's it for the day.…

Our waiter was rude, dismissive, and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. We stood there for about five minutes without being acknowledged, despite her looking directly at us. There was no greeting or even a simple "I'll be right with you." That attitude continued throughout our meal. She never checked on us, never asked how the food was, never asked if we needed anything else, and was noticeably unfriendly even when clearing our plates. We were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than paying customers. For clarity, the host wearing a leopard top was incredibly kind and welcoming. My complaint is specifically regarding the waiter who served our table. What makes this especially frustrating is that Uovo automatically adds a 16% service fee and operates as a no-tipping establishment. I respect that business model, but when guests are automatically charged for service, they should at minimum receive professional and courteous customer service. I sincerely hope management addresses this and provides this employee with additional hospitality and customer service training. I'm not looking for anything complimentary, I simply don't think any customer should pay a mandatory service fee while being treated as though their presence is a burden. Unfortunately, after being a loyal customer, this experience has left me with no desire to return.

The interior was very clean and immaculate, and we were seated immediately once we told them of our Dine LA reservation. We were given tomato gazpacho for amuse bouche; it wasn't overly sour as expected from a tomato-based soup, and it prepared our palate for the following dishes. Then we got the prosciutto and fried calamari for appetizer; the prosciutto and figs provided a nice balance of flavors, while the calamari had a good fry to it and an excellent aioli complementing it. We then got the mushroom risotto and branzino for main course. The risotto was a bit saltier than expected, so we needed several water breaks before we could continue finishing it. The branzino was excellent with a good grill to it, however. We took our tiramisu and ricotta olive oil cake for dessert home, and they were both delicious. Shout-out to our server, Tina, who was fantastic and had some great recommendations. We started with the Caesar salad, which was fresh and delicious, but definitely anchovy-forward. If you're not a fan of anchovies, I'd skip this one. The chicken was delicious, although slightly overcooked. The white wine and caper sauce tied everything together perfectly. The pork chop was my personal favorite. I loved the whipped feta underneath. I just wish there had been a little more of it. For dessert, we went with the seasonal peach cobbler since I was afraid it might disappear from the menu. Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite. I found it slightly bitter. The server did mention that they used whiskey in the dish so that might be why. My husband, however, loved it, so I think this one comes down to personal preference. They also have a fantastic wine selection. I opted for the red wine flight, which was a great way to sample a few different wines. Also one thing to note is that they do have a 3% service charge on the bill but you can ask to have it removed. I would have easily given this place five stars, but I took off one because it was pretty warm inside. Apparently, they've been having issues with the A/C but a staff member did mention that they'll be installing fans soon. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later, because I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

There is a massive pressure felt by all Los Angel-inos when we host guests from different parts of…read morethe country. Not only do we have to chaperone the visiting friends to tourist hot spots that we generally avoid in everyday life; but even the restaurants we choose as dining options need to be positioned on a perfect pedestal that impresses but is still comfortable. A very close friend of mine from Nashville visits the City of Angels once a year; and I always feel the stress to impress in regards to dining. In 2026, we decided on a more casual dinner than our usual upscale entertainments and opted for Pasadena. Of course, I turned to Yelp and that is how I discovered Café Santorini. Café Santorini has been a favorite dining option in the Old Pasadena neighborhood of Pasadena since 1993 on the intersection of West Union and De Lacey (a block from Colorado Blvd) nestled in one of the famous historic red-brick buildings with alley alcoves that makes Old Pasadena so beloved. Café Santorini encapsulates European love that is as warm as its bricks uniting the culinary richness of Italy, Greece and Morocco in semi-upscale/trendy real estate with iron railings, high ceilings, exposed brickwork, duct beams and glossy wood surfaces that is both inviting and will absolutely entice tourists and residents, alike. Whether seeking indoor dining bar-adjacent with tables or booths or the lovely outdoor second-floor patio alcove overlooking the plant-filled alleys below; Café Santorini is quite pleasant on the eyes. My Nashville-based friend and I made a reservation for an early dinner at 4pm on a Saturday and Café Santorini was already filled to the gills and bustling with activity (granted, there was a Guns n Roses concert at the nearby Rose Bowl in the evening). Opting to sit outdoors due to the loud volume in the dining room; we had a perfect ratio of casual and date-worthy. Café Santorini is seamless with its 'vibe'. To begin the evening, we opted for some cocktails with a Smoke and Citrus Paloma (grapefruit and lime juice, smoked sea salt agave syrup and soda water, alcohol free at $12 but I made it alcoholic with mezcal) for me while my friend ordered a traditional margarita on the rocks (no salt) as we gazed the menu and also decided on sharing a Grape Leaves appetizer (rice, herbs, tomato paste - $16). If you are Celiac like myself and need gluten-free options, Café Santorini is AMAZING in its GF options (also dairy free and vegan dishes) with more choices than usual competitor restaurants which that alone makes it stand out from the crowd. Our drinks arrived in classy and colorful derivations with my paloma holding a seducing orange hue akin to a setting California sun with dried rosemary and dried fruit with the margarita being perfectly yellow-ish green with a dried lime. My paloma was delicious with an ideal combination of sweet to alcohol and smoke with the margarita being refreshing and tangy. I am quite picky with grape leaves having friends from the Middle East living in the US but Café Santorini's grape leaves (5 pieces) are delicious both in texture and flavor without being too bitter which is sometimes the case. For dinner I chose the Branzino (Grilled Mediterranean sea bass, lemon Greek potatoes, dill, capers- $42) while my friend wasn't super famished and decided on Greek Salad Horiatiki (Valdivia Farms tomatoes, Persian cucumbers, Anaheim peppers, red onions, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, lemon juice - $17). One of my favorite details of Café Santorini is their capacity to present elegant dishes that are still simple and not pretentious on plateware that encompasses Greece itself with colorful mosaic prints and painted motifs. The ingredients are fresh, colorful and artfully displayed. My Branzino was faultless: grilled perfectly with charred grill marks and crispy skin (large filet) with capers and fresh dill with fingerling potatoes based under the fish soaking up the lemon juices. Delightful! The Greek Salad Horiatiki allowed the garden-fresh veggies to truly shine even with the lemon juice/oil and large piece of feta making it a perfect summer option. Service at Café Santorini is friendly and a family-like atmosphere with every staff member acknowledging you as you saunter by, answering all questions and constantly smiling. Café Santorini is an overall pleasant joy of an experience. Whether you need to impress out-of-state friends or simply seeking Mediterranean fare in Old Pasadena; Café Santorini is a musty-try for a casual meets elegance dining experience.
