I haven't set foot in here in many years, and that is a shame. It is a bit out of my daily working zone. And, there are other similar places that were closer and for years offered great food. However, the two other Jewish deli spots have really gone downhill and Scott's just keeps on delivering great food, hearty portions and fast, awesome service. My corned beef sandwich was ridiculously large and, most importantly, the meat was lean and delicious. $18 bucks for a sandwich is not super cheap, but I had a hard time eating one half because of the portion size. So, my wife became the beneficiary of the other half. Definitely returning soon! read more

I finally gave Scott's Generations Deli a try today. I ordered the New Yorker, because I love the sweet-and-salty combination Unfortunately, the pastrami just didn't have the bold, peppery flavor I was hoping for. The coleslaw was okay but without that flavor punch from the pastrami, the overall sandwich fell a little flat for me. The rye bread was good, but I was hoping for that classic deli rye flavor and texture that really complements a good pastrami sandwich. The pickles were also a disappointment. I'm used to a pickle with that crisp, juicy snap and strong briny flavor, and these were softer and didn't have much of that traditional pickled taste. The fries were also cut very thick, which may be their particular style, but they weren't my favorite. As far as service, my server was meh, At one point I had to get coffee refills from other servers because my server seemed to disappear at times and didn't quite check up on me. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely took away from the overall experience. I will say, I know I may have a higher bar than most when it comes to pastrami. I grew up in LA eating at places like Langer's, Canter's, and Nate 'n Al's, so I'm used to pastrami that has a really distinctive, peppery, savory flavor and those crunchy deli pickles. I'm glad I tried Scott's, and I can understand why people enjoy it. Overall, Scott's did satisfy the craving for pastrami, so in that sense it scratched the itch. 3.5 Stars. I was craving some pastrami, and this looked like it would fit the bill. I walked in, looked at the menu really quick and then placed a to go order for a New Yorker on rye. Total was like $22 something, gave the guy $25. Took maybe 5 minutes to get ready. I took it out to my car to dig in. How was it? Ok. New Yorker- This sandwich had corned beef and pastrami, cole slaw, Swiss, and Russian dressing on some rye bread. Pretty big sandwich. Pastrami and corned beef were tasty, albeit a tad fattier then I prefer. The cole slaw was pretty mayo heavy and goopy, I honestly scraped most of it off. Rye bread was soft, but nothing "great". I'm spoiled by Langer's and I need to tell myself that I will never find anything as good as that sandwich. Oh well......I tried. Sandwich was a 7/10 IMO. The sandwich came with some cottage fries which were ok, a side of pickles that weren't really pickled (tasted like a straight up cucumber) and some cole slaw which I did not try. Service was very friendly, the cashier was Scott himself, I think. The guy who brought out my food was friendly as can be, too. Would I come back? Yes. Let a friend for brunch this morning. I didn't have a time to check in so I'm doing this after the fact. The deli is in a strip mall with several other restaurants and shopping. It is small clean and has a full deli counter as well. The service was good and the food was hot and delivered quickly. I had the protein breakfast with grilled chicken and egg white and a side of fresh fruit. It was piping hot and delicious with the eggs having some type of a seasoning or sauce that made it a sweet and savory dish. Coffee was hot and delicious. My friend had the corn beef hash with fried egg. The serving size is enormous, which led me to take part of mine home as did my friend for breakfast for tomorrow. I also ordered a couple of deli sandwiches piled high. One was a beef brisket on an onion roll with a side of fried potatoes and coleslaw. You also received two pickles with that sandwich. Pickles I wasn't too fond of, they were lymph, and as one other poster put not very briny like a pickle I am used to, but the coleslaw was okay. The server was okay. She wanted to give us some space to make decisions, but at times it took a few minutes to find her to take our order, but she was pleasant. The sandwich was still hot and piled very high with brisket on a fresh onion roll. The second sandwich I ordered was a plain turkey sub with all the trimmings. I have not tried that yet, but plan to. I've always passed by this spot and honestly overlooked it--turns out I've been missing out. My son and I stopped in for breakfast, and the place was nice, open, and very clean. It had a comfortable, welcoming vibe right away, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy the meal. The breakfast was really good. I'd rate the food an 8 or 9 out of 10, and the service was a solid 10. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. I've been here a few times for breakfast and for lunch. Both times have been very pleasant. Today I had the "Scott's Perfect Rueben-Rueben" with pastrami on an onion roll. It comes with fries and a pickle. It was all very good. In fact, this place is now my favorite pastrami place in the valley, surpassing the Miracle Mile "Straw", which is also excellent. This, one of many times, I ordered a Kasha Knish. What I got was Potato Knish, I think. Please review the accompanying pictures. The lighter one is from Scott's. The other was not. I did get to sample the meat Knish. That has pastrami and potato inside. As any good pastrami-related substance, it was in dire need of mustard, which, for all time and forever, you add yourself. The taste was terrific. All the Kinishes had a thin baked crust. They were delicious as they were. This is a nice small spot that sells omelettes, skillets, corned beef hash, pancakes, sandwiches, salads, and more. I tried out their veggies skillet, chicken noodle soup, and cheesecake brownie. The worst part of the skillet was its main ingredient: the potato. I asked for no onions several times and I still found onions in there. The chicken soup was actually good but it had a random piece of bone in it. The cheesecake brownie sounded great on paper but the item itself was simultaneously worse than most cheesecake and most brownies I've ever eaten. I have gotten takeout from Scott's Generations Restaurant & Delicatessen twice, both on weekdays. They are conveniently located close to where I work. But, they close at 5 so keep this in mind as it's not a dinner spot unless you do a super early dinner. Parking won't be an issue in the shopping center they share with a bunch of other businesses. Service (N/A): Since I've gotten takeout both times, service hasn't been a big part of the experience. With that being said, both of my phone orders went through without any hiccups, and my orders were accurate both times. I was able to pay at the counter easily. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much your typical, casual deli. A decent amount of seating at both tables and high tops. While I didn't dine in, I got to look around while I was paying for my order. Drinks (N/A): I didn't order any beverages on both visits. Food (4/5): If you've never been to a Jewish deli before, you're in for a treat. I recommend trying some Jewish classics such as pastrami sandwiches, matzo ball soup, latkes, and blinzes. Scott's Generations has a large menu of both breakfast and lunch items, so you have plenty to choose from. On one visit, I ordered the pastrami sandwich with Russian dressing on a kaiser roll. On the other visit, I had a bologna sandwich with tomatoes, pickles, and Russian dressing. Both comes with coleslaw and I added fries for a small surcharge. First off, these are some big sandwiches! The meat is stacked high, and easily makes for two meals. Russian dressing is essentially thousand island dressing and compliments the meat well. You can choose your bread. I like kaiser, but rye bread is traditional (I'm not a fan). You also get some fresh pickles with your entree, which is another common part of a Jewish deli experience. The fries are more like oven roasted potatoes. Though they weren't what I was expecting, they are good. One of my favorite restaurants in Houston is a Jewish deli: Kenny & Ziggy's. Since I moved to Phoenix in January, it's nice to have found a nice Jewish deli here, too. They also have a Groupon you can purchase that gives you a discount. Score! read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to flagstaff. We were greeted and told to sit anywhere. Our waiter came over right away and took our drink order. We found several things that interested us. We finally settled on our orders (pics provided) and our food was really good. The bagel with the homemade lox cream cheese was fire . Literally the best dish IMO. But everyone loved their food. The only thing I have to say is the home fries were just ok. Needed something but some salt and cholula fixed them right on up. "Hot Pastrami" sandwich on rye was served only barely warm. The meat had flavor, but not much. The potato knish had a grainy filling instead of smooth. It, too, lacked flavor, and it, too, was served barely warm. It would have been nice to see a smile on my server's face, but she looked and sounded unhappy. The ambiance was nothing special. Just tables, chairs, and a deli counter. Thank goodness for the Dr. Brown's. It was very generous with ham, the lettuce had brown on the end, there were two microplaned pieces of tomato and the mayonnaise was there but hard to find, although a plastic packet was provided. Made a quick stop in and super glad I did! I got the Reuben, Corned Beef and Pastrami combined. It was stacked high, super thick with meat. The kraut was proportional as well. This was a great sandwich. They put the dressing on the side, a bit strange, but I was able to add it bite by bite which was fine. The potatoes were cut like potatoes, but fried like fries. They had a St Patrick's day special which consisted of corned beef , cabbage and potatoes. The only thing I didn't like was that the corned beef was thin shaved beef instead of the traditional thick cut meat. This left the meat dry on the edges. Came in yesterday for lunch and got the Cuban sandwich with fries. The sandwich was packed with meat with crispy fries on the side. My husband got the steak and eggs that were very filling. For dessert we got a walnut brownie and a cheese bake brownie. Both were the perfect way to end a meal. The restaurant had a New York deli vibe with breakfast and lunch options. Here's the review I didn't want to write because I love Jewish delis, and I'm sure it's a tricky business. BUT.. that's no reason to represent what you give your customers on your menu falsely. The Order: My order: Corned beef sandwich, latke (potato pancake), chopped liver, and kishka. The Problem: The menu isn't accurate, and they overcharge. I ordered the corned beef sandwich (rather than getting a pound of corned beef) because the menu in large print says: "Overstuffed Sandwiches," MINIMUM HALF POUND. Okay, that sounded good to me (I was huuuuungry). I got home, and the sandwich looked small to me, so I weighed it. (I know it seems out there, but it really looked small to me... especially for a $17 sandwich) I took off the bread, and the meat was around 6 ounces, almost exactly. (Deli sandwiches are always sold by the meat inside.) If the sandwich was almost exactly two ounces smaller than it should be, I suspect that is really what they are selling. What Really Bites... Scott's, by my calculation, is overcharging every customer by $5.50 (that's a lot on a $17 sandwich?). So, either the restaurant needs to update its menu (and be upfront about the fact it serves six ounces in its sandwiches) or serve what it says. It's not ethical in my book. (see below for the response from the deli... Oh wait, they read my email but chose not to respond...). Scott's Response: How did Scott's respond you ask? (Spoiler: Scott's read and didn't bother to respond). I did reach out with my issue to Scott's by email but never heard back, so I'm guessing the ops is more of "let's ignore it, and no one else really cares, but this schmuck." In my email, I let them know I had photos on a digital scale, and they read them because I got a read receipt from my email. It seems like such a small thing, and yet here I am, putting it into the ether. Why wouldn't the owners want to respond? I really didn't ask for anything; I just let them know I didn't like the fact they misrepresented their portion size on the menu. Crickets. I would have thought this warranted some kind of response. Conclusion I didn't want to write the review (but, seeing as the three generations at Scott's didn't seem to care, I thought their customers might... You can draw your own conclusions as to why the restaurant didn't respond. I really think they got their hand caught in the cookie jar (thumb on the scale), so to speak. Rather than let me know it was a mistake and apologize or anything else, they just didn't seem to care. It's business as usual. That's not good customer service (or good business), and to me, it showed a complete disregard for their customers. Side Note: My chopped liver was fantastic, the latke was sitting for a week, and a 2 out of 10 at best, and the kishka wasn't really what I was used to, so no rating... My suggestion is that you expect what's written on the menu and check for the freshness of the food. If you got this far, thanks for sticking it out... :-) read more

Purchased a Groupon to this deli and usually don't expect much with those as either the establishment is struggling, not very good, or a new place trying to gain business. Boy, was I surprised! Came around 2pm and it wasn't busy. Our server provided excellent service. I ordered the turkey sandwich with Swiss and a side of macaroni salad. My friends ordered the taco salad and a Reuben sandwich with homemade fries that were more like wedge potatoes. The turkey was piled high and customizable. The only thing I forgot to ask was to add mayo. Mac salad was tasty and not too creamy as some places overdo it with the mayo. My friends enjoyed their food as well. Chatted with the owner briefly (assuming his name is Scott) & he is originally from Long Island and such a nice guy. I highly recommend this deli. They have a wide variety on their menu. A Jewish deli in a strip mall. Plenty of parking and seating. Our waitress was super nice and efficient, the ice tea was fresh and tasty. The food? Over salted! I ordered matzo soup and a half pastrami sandwich. The matzo ball was so bland. It was hard and tasted like a blob of dough. The soup was so salty (and I like salt) I couldn't eat it. The sandwich was piled high with pastrami but the bread was soggy. The meal also came with fries. Cut like home fries. Strangely under salted. Dipped in the soup helped. There was a small bowl of over dressed coleslaw on the plate. It looked like a bowl of mayo. The house made pickles tasted like cucumbers soaked in salt and piled on the plate. Hubs had the beef dip, underwhelming. Our friends both had sandwiches and frankly I can't remember what they had because they didn't rave about them.
