My brother referred me years ago and that was the best reference. First, secretary, Liz is the sweetest! Always smiles and greets you when you come in. Dr. Curtis assistants are knowledgeable and are quick but efficient with cleaning. Lastly, Dr. Curtis is very polite and approacable. He does not come across as intimidating as I always have questions (x-rays, recommendations for a thorough at home cleaning (which he has a handout created with his suggestions); and he communicates effectively. If you're looking for a dentist that makes inappropriate comments, picks up phone calls, and is answering questions from staff about other patients all while doing your dental work then Curtis is your guy. If you still decide to see him I recommend ensuring that one of the hygienists or other dental staff are in the room with you to avoid experiencing comments like "wow don't ever let a guy tell you your mouth is too big" and being called sweet cheeks. This man is a creep, doesn't take the time to answer questions and laughs off any concerns you might have about his recommended dental work. He also doesn't recall the dental work he does for you and so when you call about a dental concern he mixes up which tooth he did work on and immediately jumps to invasive dental procedures. This office is as good as it gets. Dr. Curtis is awesome. Really friendly, all smiles, makes you feel comfortable and I'm a total chicken at the dentist and he made me feel calm, well as calm as I could feel being at the dentist. But more than anything, his staff is out of this world! Liz went above and beyond for me helping me figure out my insurance and making sure I was making the best decisions possible so I can save as much as possible through my insurance. Since dentist visits, even with insurance, can still be pricey, she really took her time to look into things for me and helped me figure it out. This REALLY helped me a lot with my anxiety. As much as I am terrified of going to the dentist because I'm afraid it will be painful, I am always so much more terrified of what the final cost will be and if I can actually afford to take care of my dental needs. I was searching for a dentist that was open during the CoVid-19 Shelter in Place...thank God I found Dr.Curtis' office. He was the only office that called me back, the front desk woman was so kind and reminded me with all the appointment details via text and emailed me the paperwork so I did not have to fill it out in the office. They took every precaution to keep patients separated and no one was in waiting room. Each patient is given hand sanitizer before waking into the a private room and you could tell everything was sanitized after each patient. I had X-rays (digital quick) and my leaning. My hygienist, Claudia, was so sweet and VERY thorough. My cleanings from previous dentists were always rushed and they gave little feedback. Claudia was really lovely and cleaned every little thing off my teeth. Dr. Curtis has another associate dentist, Dr. Delano Hankins, who is equally as kind, helpful, personable and caring with patients. At the end, they even gave me a cute gift bag of dental goodies! I'm not one to rant and rave about dentists, but I love love love this place. I was introduced to it because after a faulty dentist experience (eeks) my roomie suggested I go to hers. I had such a great experience!!! The staff are really sweet and nice to be around. They have these little tvs you can watch in the exam room while you're waiting, which was kinda cool. I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled quite painlessly and had my teeth cleaned. It was the best dental experience I'd had to date, and after my insurance took care of their part, my bill was very reasonable. They were even nice enough to explain every single bit to me after it was obvious that I didn't completely get what they were talking about. Best part, afterwards I got 2 purple toothbrushes. I felt like a little kid again, grasping at knick knacks from the treasure box. Only this time, I'm 22 and it's tooth brushes. I hate dentists. I hate dentists with a passion, even good dentists. I love Dr. Curtis though. First of all, I love his state of the art equipment, they have digital x-rays which you see right away, and makes it easier for them to explain things to me right in front of me. His staff is the greatest and they always answer my questions. I had not one, but two - TWO - root canals this year and they didn't hurt. Ask Dr. Curtis, I asked him to pull my teeth rather than go through the drilling and other procedures. I didn't even need antibiotics - silly me. His treatment rooms have TVs near the ceiling so you can watch a show if you can keep your eyes open. They also have an in-house lab where they make some of their own crowns and dental "things" - I don't know the terminology - but it keeps you from having to wait too long between appointments since they can make what they need when they need it instead of going to an outside vendor. I have a lot of metal fillings, I asked about replacing them, Dr. Curtis' philosophy is, "if it works, don't mess with it". He's the first person to ever tell me that the pretty white fillings don't last as long as my metal ones. That's good enough for me. I'm not worried abut mercury and metals in the fillings and all that, it was good enough for my family and we seem to be doing ok - no mad hatters :) I don't know about how they do billing and stuff, but I'm sure they take all insurance, and they will sit and talk to you about payment options and coverage in a very patient and respectful manner. His hygenists are wonderful, one even numbs my gums when she does regular cleanings (I'm such a baby!), and there are tons of free toothbrushes in the lobby to share with friends and keep in your travel kits. They also have cookies in the lobby too, but I try to stay away from them :) There is street parking and a parking lot in the back, their building is right next to an Elk's lodge. read more

First let me start by saying I absolutely fear going to the Dentist. I've had several bad experiences and it's so hard to find a good dentist that does good work and that you can trust! I've been to several other dentists who are pushy, unfriendly or untrustworthy. However, Dr. Curtis and his staff are kind, courteous and extremely calming. I know I'm in good hands with them. I can't stress enough how much I recommend Dr. Curtis and his staff. His hygienists are thorough and thoughtful people. Dr. Curtis insists on seeing on all his patients, even if it's just for a cleaning. He also constantly keeps his patients in the loop as far as what he's about to look for, do, or how he is diagnosing what happening with your teeth. The best part is... he is absolutely painless. I am a 50 year old man. I have feared dentist since i was about 8 years old. I had a client refer me to Dr Curtis and it has been the best experience ever. I have not experienced any pain whether getting a filing or correcting an abscess. Dr. Curtis is very patient and explains procedures well, prior to beginning. He numbed me each time whithout me feeling a pinch. I visited his office approx. 5-6 times within a month and each time the experience was perfect. I never felt a bit pain after the procedures either. My previous dentist always made me feel uncomfortable by how they tried to sell me more than dental service than I actually needed, so they could make money. They even had me feeling as though my teeth were in horrible shape. Dr. Curtis explained to me that my teeth were in good shape minus a few procedures. They explained the fees required to do the necessary procedures and I still had money left over. Dr Curtis has a very professional team from the time you enter his office to the Dental Assistant that stands next to you and holds your hand while he administers the anesthesia. I went here to get my teeth cleaned for the first time at a new dentist yesterday. I would always wait to get it done when I went back 'home' to see my childhood dentist, but since I'm not able to get back there and I have named Playa del Rey home now it was about time to find a new dentist. Thanks to the Yelp reviews you sent me to the right place! I was able to WALK here which was AWESOME!! The hygienist was very nice and gentle and informed me right off the bat that I probably have a cavity, which I appreciate because I want to know what's going on in my mouth! I love the fact that there are TVs...my childhood hygienist would try to talk to me and it's hard to do that when you have all these tools in your mouth. The only thing that was uncomfortable was getting the x-rays done...she must have done around 15ish different x-rays and sometimes the thing they stick in your mouth was uncomfortable but I guess that comes with the territory. Dr. Curtis was super nice, made me feel comfortable when he was checking out my cavity and said my teeth are in great shape. I have to go back in a few weeks to get the cavity filled and feel completely confident that it is going to go smoothly and be painless. Highly recommend!! read more

I had recently had a horrible experience at a dental office and was a little leery. However I walked out of Dr. Curtis' office with a HUGE smile. The hygienist did a thorough cleaning, and was very gentle. Once Dr. Curtis came in he noted my large fillings but only recommended one new filling. My last dentist had told me I needed four crowns and when I brought that up he assured me that I did not need any crowns. My old fillings were holding up just fine. Needless to say I was ecstatic. Dr Curtis is the best dentist I've had since I was a kid. He's very knowledgeable, honest, and a great guy. He doesn't try to upsell you on services you don't need. The techs are skilled and polite, and the office staff is just as great. When I was about to get my wisdom teeth pulled, he checked the shape of the wisdom teeths' roots, and decided it would be in my best interests that I go to an oral surgeon he knows well. Many dentists would do the job themselves, and leave you to deal with the results. But since Dr Curtis handed me off to an oral surgeon, I had zero swelling after the teeth got pulled. read more

Dr. Curtis is really good. Easily the best dentist I've had. He's good, skilled and very ethical. I was in a situation this year, where I had a tooth that had a failure on the root canal (after 10 years of getting the root canal done.) He told me the cost of three different options.... and the reality of their ability to succeed. He told me his recomendation, which was the cheapest of the choices, and was in deed the best. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star, was I had an appointment with Dr. Curtis. I unfortunately had to cancel the same day (due to illness.) Instead of a "Ok, reschedule when you can." The receptionist gave me a 10min lecture on calling in well in advance. I asked the receptionist how I could call her to tell her I'll be sick, before I'm sick? She said I should call and say, "I may or may not be able to make it." :) So basically I should call the dentist office and say, "I may or may not be able to make it next week, due to unforeseen circumstances that may or may not occur in the near future." No need to lecture, or throw passive aggressive comments to bull bait customers into a reaction. I mean, why would you bull bait a customer? You really want your customers to react? What do customers do when they react? They go to YELP for crying out loud. I almost gave a 2 star over this, but realized that this wasn't reflective of the dentist. The Dentist is 5 stars all the way. What makes Dr. Curtis a 5 Star, is that he really cares. I have seen other dentist's since, and none compare to the detail and concern that he has for his patients. He is by far, the best around that I've been to. read more

I located Dr. Curtis through my insurance and went in today for a routine cleaning/examination. I was a little skeptical about what X-Rays would be covered due to a previous negative experience with another Dentist, but the office staff were totally understanding and actually showed me my benefit coverage on paper before proceeding which really impressed me. Next, it was time for the cleaning and the hygienist was great as well. She had a friendly personality and did an excellent job cleaning my teeth; always checking to make sure that I was comfortable. After the cleaning, Dr. Curtis came in to go over my X-Rays. I found him to be a nice guy and trustworthy. He stated nothing jumped out at him from the X-Rays and did not recommend any additional procedures. Woohoo!
